Karen, I'm glad to hear your son passed the 1st. test.  How many are there in that block?  I've heard that blocks 6 and 7 are harder.

  • Kim

My son just finished ECS and will be reporting to his battalion on Monday. He moved in to the barracks to get the lay of the land. Hasn't lived in barracks since forever! He's ready to get the show on the road!!
  • Debi

My thoughts and prayers are going out to all our Sailors and families who have sailors at the Navy Yard in D.C. This is just crazy that this kind of violence happens on our bases at home!

  • CarrieC

My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone who was involved in the navy yard shooting!!

  • Karen

Lighthouse3:  There are 2 tests in block 6.  I have heard the second is the hardest one of all.   My son did not get a new roommate.  Garcia is still there but has been moved to another room while recovering.  Keep us posted on how your son is doing!

  • Lighthouse3 Div203 PIR5/24/13

Karen, my son called our daughter tonight briefly, and said that Garcia has made it through all the PT and will be joining our son in block 5 this coming Thursday, the 26th.! I'm so excited and thankful to the Lord that Garcia's injuries weren't as bad as our son originally had been told.
  • Karen

Lighthouse3:  My son told me a couple of weeks ago that Garcia's injury was healing faster than expected and he would be able to rejoin training in a couple of weeks.  Looks like it has happened.  Praise God.  Will be praying for your son, Garcia and the rest of the group to get through block 5 without any further injury!

  • Lighthouse3 Div203 PIR5/24/13

    Thank you very much!
  • Lighthouse3 Div203 PIR5/24/13

Our son called tonight.  Today he did a practice pole climb (as did 3 others), to see if he was ready to "class up" and resume his CE training in block 5 this Thursday.  He was able to do everything he was asked, the whole 35' (30' up and 5' out) and all the maneuvers.  However, his knee was still giving him a tremendous amount of pain, especially when it was the one locked in.  He was determined to work through the pain, but. . . his petty officer called him back down. He's going to have to get a follow-up medical appointment, with more physical therapy and more months of waiting until it heals and he can get back in class at the proper point.  That was a big disappointment, although we know the Lord has His perfect timing for everything.

The good news is that Karen's son's former roommate, Garcia, DID do fine on his test climb and his injury seems to have healed.

Tomorrow our son reports back to where he's been working in administration, and, Lord willing, will still have his temp job there.  Also, he will be tested to see if he can phase up to Phase 2.  He has a 12 a.m.-2a.m. watch tonight and was dealing with a headache, but busily shining his boots while talking.

  • Momofahousefull

Lighthouse3: Our son had a similar situation (although different job) in which he was greatly disappointed in not being able to pursue his "first choice" but has seen God work in his life and career. His training and experiences will even enhance his abilities in his "first choice" if ever given the opportunity to try again. God is working out His perfect plan!

  • Lighthouse3 Div203 PIR5/24/13

Thank you very much for your encouragement, Momofahousefull.  I'm glad your son's situation worked out well, and I know God is in control.  It will be exciting to be able to look back at it and see how it all works together for good.  :-)  That's what we have to remember when we're in the midst of perplexing circumstances.

  • Karen

Lighthouse3:  Im sorry your son will not be able to resume his class.  I think it is probably a wise choice though as the last thing he needs is to be hurt further.  God has his own timing for all of us.  Even though we often have other plans.  I have a feeling that this will lead to great things for your son.  He will continue to be in my prayers!  Tell him all us Navy Moms are behind him and to keep working he will make it to where he is supposed to be.

Happy to hear Garcia did well.  I have not had a chance to talk to my son today.  Our schedules are totally opposite right now so not much time to talk or text.

  • Lighthouse3 Div203 PIR5/24/13

Thank you, Karen, for your encouragement and prayers.  Our son was apparently welcomed back to his temp admin job.  He missed one too many questions to phase up, so he will try again next week.  It's not a big deal to him, but I think he would appreciate not having to muster at night, since he always has watch in the wee hours.

  • Karen

Lighthouse3:  Happy to hear your son's temp admin job was still there.  I hope he gets to phase up soon so he does not have to muster at night.  I will continue to keep him in my thoughts and prayers.  I hope his knee heals completely soon so he can get back to his CE training!

  • Lighthouse3 Div203 PIR5/24/13

    Thank you very much, Karen!

Hello everyone I'm new to the group my son leaves for A school to become a seabee next weekend.  I'm so proud of him.

  • cs3370cs

Welcome and congratulations to your son.  Where is his "A" school?  My son graduates on November 1st from Port Hueneme "A" school.  So very excited to have him home for two weeks before more training or deployment.  We won't know which for another 10-14 days.  Hope everything goes good for him.

  • cs3370cs

Hope everything goes good for your son, I mean.  Sorry that wasn't clear.

Welcome Proudmamma-  What is your Sailors rate?  Where is he headed?  My Sailor is supposed to begin classes in Gulfport tomorrow to be a BU.  He has been there since 8/31 sitting around being bored and bumped by others who are higher in priority.  You would think that they would be able to plan these things a little better so they don't have so many guys that they have to make work for just to justify their jobs.  I would have been happy to house and feed him for the last 5 weeks if we'd known that all he'd be doing is pulling weeds and typing schedules.

Sorry for the venting. I just miss my sailor and we are stuck in limbo waiting to have some idea what things will look like so we can figure out when we can see him next.  10 hours at PIR was nowhere long enough!!!

    Hello

  • deniseMatt'smom

Welcome!!! Do you have 2 in the Navy? It will be 1 yr for my son on the 25th and I was just saying how hard that day was for all of us! I wouldn't want to go through it twice!!! Congratulations!!!
  • belovedbyHim

YES!!!!!!! Just got a text from my Sailor letting us know that he FINALLY will class up tomorrow!!!  He PIR'd on 8/30 and has been sitting in Gulfport ever since.  He has been volunteering to go to the Retirement home and visit and do odd jobs.  It makes me feel good to hear that he learned to be kind and to treat older folks as the treasures they are.  I am also delighted though that he will finally get to begin learning what he really enjoys doing.  He loves to work with his hands and already has some construction experience.  He'll be an awesome BU!!  Is there a training guide for BU similar to the day by day breakdown from bootcamp?

  • yelomoon

    hello

  • Dale-Ann

Good morning fellow moms, My son got to A school a few weeks ago and Im not sure what to expect and what happens next.  Missing my boy like crazy and hes so far away!

  • deniseMatt'smom

Welcome Dale-Ann! Is he in Gulfport? My Seabee is a BU, he learned so much in A school, but it is still very regulated as to what they can do! The best thing is that the communication is sooooo much better, my son got Internet so we could FaceTime .... What a blessing to be able to see him whenever we wanted...he will have some free weekends so a visit is OK...good luck !
  • Dale-Ann

thanks Denise, no he is in Port Hueneme he is a CM, right now hes overwhelmed with the sched. and the fact that hes so far away.  I feel better now that we can call talk text FB ect, at least now i know how hes doing, but hes still so far away, i know thats something we will all have to get used to because hes going to be here there and everywhere but he was my last baby to leave the house so its a little harder

  • Dale-Ann

my boy just sent me a picture he is now designated a CM and excited! thank you finally something went right for him this week!

  • deniseMatt'smom

Great news....Hopefully that will carry him through a little while....It will get better as the says pass, and a lot better once he gets through a school!
  • belovedbyHim

deniseMatt'smom- Hello. My sailor is at Gulfport for A school to be a BU.  He just started classes this week.  Is there a training guide that tells us what they are doing week by week?

  • Beachmom (Ship 13, Div 281)

Welcome Dale-Ann!  My son is in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri for A School for EO  He should graduate November 12th!  We Facetime every other day now, I love being able to communicate with him and actually see him!  I believe he will be in Gulfport for his C School.

  • deniseMatt'smom

Belovedbyhim Hi! I don't think there is a place like that, because everybody seems to have different experiences....if you ever have any questions just ask, we're all here to help! My son graduated in April and was sent directly to his next assignment, although most go across the street to combat training for another couple weeks.....my son loves being a BU,it is great training to be a future home owner and construction business!!! Good luck to you both!!!!
  • Debi

Hey Beachmom, How does your son like Fort Lost in the Woods? lol Has he been to Happy Hollow yet? I miss having mine that close again. Hopefully he'll get to go to Gulfport..they sent Elias right out to a duty station. He's doing his 36 a shore right now. Once that is done he'll get to go to GP and do his training for C school and do the 36 a Sea.

  • Beachmom (Ship 13, Div 281)

Hi Debi! He is ready to graduate from FLW! Been there just a bit too long!!! You were right, they are picky! He hasn't mentioned Happy Hallow yet. He is due to come home in a few weeks, then on to GP. We shall se what happens! Maybe ours will be in C school together!

Navy Moms-- I'm posting this on all the pages I'm a part of.  A Navy mom on FB needs our help.  Her son is stationed in New Orleans. Due to the Shut Down he is largely alone since his base is mostly reservists.  I'm hoping to connect her with some Navy mom's in the New Orleans area.  Please message me and I'll pass on your info to her.

  • AYAMOM

My son is at FLW and scheduled to graduate A school Dec 12.... am worried he will not get his leave to come home after that due to this shut down- anyone else hear anything?

  • cs3370cs

Hello, AYAMOM.  What does your son say?  My son is at PH and he graduates Nov 1st.  He says that if the government is still on furlough his orders may be delayed and he will remain where he is until he gets his orders.  He is still guaranteed 2 weeks leave but it may come later than he planned.

  • Bona's Mom

Hi Everyone! My son's PIR is12/06/13 and then he will be going to  PH for CM school. I am so happy to be a Seabee Mom!

Good Morning ladies, my daughter is at PH as her home port.

So your kiddo's do not make fun or correct you all,

Port Hueneme pronounce it with  Y instead of an H. as in Yneme. Trust me when I was there they all made sure I said it right. I did since I had already had the word spoken to me by  my kiddo.

  • Dale-Ann

My son is at PH also training as a CM, he will be done mid jan or so.

  • TKs mom

Hi Bona's he won't be in a school till mid Jan. he leaves for BC on 11/13.
  • Bona's Mom

My son will be there December-April so maybe he' ll meet both your boys TK's mom and Dale-Ann!

  • Beachmom (Ship 13, Div 281)

AYAMOM, my son is also at FLW and is due to graduate November 12th.  As far as I know he is still on schedule to come home.  I'll let you know if I hear otherwise.

  • Lighthouse3 Div203 PIR5/24/13

Our son may begin the pole-climbing block of his CE training again this week or next, after his July knee injury.  On the last attempt, Sept. 25th., he was still in too much pain for the petty officer to allow him to continue (although he WAS able to do the maneuvers).  They would like to see him finish his A school by Christmas break.  So would we, if that's the Lord's timing!
