My son is also a BU at A school in Gulfport. When does he graduate? Mine finishes on Jan. 17th. We are also hoping for Port Hueneme (We live in So Calif).
My daughter in in bootcamp ship 14 div 054, after graduation she will head to Port Hueneme. I am missing her some kinda bad. When she graduates, we don't know how long we will have with her. Does any one know? Thinking about seeing her on Christmas Day for Adopt A Sailor. The paper work needs to be turned in by the 13th. She graduates 15 days after Christmas, she wrote that we didn't need to come. Just missing her
cdbeck- My Seabee PIR'd on 8-30 he flew to Gulfport the morning of the 31st. We had 8 glorious hours with him. How much time you get together all depends on when her flight out to CA is. You will not know that till you see her at PIR. You are the only one who can decide if you are able to go to GL for Christmas day. If you don't she will be well cared for and will most likely have a fine time there. It is a roll of the dice...1 day for sure or the hope of a day + at PIR, unless you can swing both.
Oceangirl-- I replied but I don't know what happened to my last post.
I think my Sailor is scheduled to graduate on 17Jan as well. Our boys may be in the same class. When did yours PIR? Since he is coming home for Christmas and is staying for combat training and we are not going down there to see him I haven't really paid much attention. We spent 16 years in San Diego, Hubby was in the Navy for 7 of them (till Sailor was 1).
I have been joking with Evan that while I am proud of him for being selfless enough to want to defend our country and those who cannot defend themselves, If he gets captured they are not allowed to kill him! I spent 18 years refraining from killing him (especially the teen years!) that I am the only one who is allowed to do that!! And if he gets his butt captured I'll kill him. :) I know he's excited by the idea of going off to see the world and I think that is great but I'd sure miss him if he was stationed overseas! I have suggested that he get with a command that does mostly humanitarian work and that way he'd get to see lots of places where they don't want to kill him! He's too busy trying to be an adult to hear me just yet. Hopefully in time he'll listen.
BelovedbyHim- I laughed when I read your post, although those sentiments as a mom apply more to my older son. Ryan will be going to PH!! He is very excited. He hasn't mentioned anything about combat training. He's coming home on Monday and I can't wait to spend some quality time with him. Ryan's PIR was Sept 27th. My daughter, her fiancee and I went to that graduation so we were able to spend a few hours with Ryan. I was also able to see some of Chicago. Its a nice place but I like San Diego better, although Boston is a close second! What part of San Diego were you in? Did you like it here? I consider myself a native. We moved here when I was 15 months old, so this is the only home I've known :)
Oceangirl- I LOVED SD! We lived in San Diego-west side of Missions Trails, Spring Valley and bought our first house in Santee. Both Hubby and I are from CO and we moved back for 2 reasons. 1- my mom was in a bad accident and was needing lots of help and dad was just overwhelmed and 2- we couldn't afford to buy a larger home. I still miss SD though. Sadly I won't be going to CA for a while. My son(PIR 8-30) just got Verbal orders to go overseas. It's public works and not in a combat zone (yet) but I just can't figure out how to go 2 years without seeing him at least once! PH would have been great for me since I could have seen 2 of my 3 at one time but now I'll have to prioritize trips. My Guy comes home Sunday and his sis on Monday!! 2 amazing weeks before I have to start missing them again! I guess Skype lessons will be in my stocking.
My son should be graduating from PH around Jan 17th also, then he will finally come home for a visit before going to gulfport for combat training. I cannot wait as these are the first holidays I have not spent with my son, he had his 19 bday the first week he was at PH and now thanksgiving and xmas and new years so i cant wait to give him a big hug!
My son is still waiting for exact orders but he is finished school right now, doing 3 coding classes then he said he has special warfare orders and thats all he knows, life of a navy mom never knowing until its almost time...lol
My son passed his CE A school, graduated today, and is IN THE AIR on the way home as I type. Hubby and daughter are going to pick him up at the airport, and I'm going to start dinner cooking. Today is hubby's birthday, too! :-) I am so proud of him and SO thankful to the Lord for His perpetual goodness!
Lighthouse3: Congrats! Rejoicing with you in thankfulness for your son's accomplishments through adversity! And may you and yours have a Merry Christmas and Wonderfully Happy New Year!!!
Does anyone have any wifi suggestions for Port Hueneme my son will be heading there soon. And being on the Eastcoast I don't know what will work best over there.
Only 4 more days till my son is gone again!!! How do I get past the feelings of dread that keep washing over me?? I want to enjoy these days not fall asleep crying every night!! Wishing Christmas could last forever so he would not go! Sad night for this momma.
A year ago today I was where you are now! We had to say goodbye at the airport, we were all crying, my poor sailor was so upset when he boarded the plane the stewardess handed him water and tissues!!!! This year he was able to be home for Christmas again I know he is happy with his Navy choices and one year closer to the end!!! We will be able to bring him to the airport and happily kiss him goodbye and wait to FaceTime him when he gets back to base!!!! Boy did that year fly by!!!! Good Luck to you and your sailor, and know he carries
Your love in his heart no matter where he is !
I agree!! My girl has to fly back to California on Sunday and I am already sad. I keep hugging her every chance I get! So good to have her home for the holidays, but I'm not ready for her to go back!
My son didnt come home for xmas, Im waiting not so patiently for mid jan, for him to take his couple of weeks before going on to special warfare training, The holiday this year sure weren't the same, But he is happy with his choice and settling in well! That makes it all worth it~!
so grateful my son was home for Christmas and the New Year! I had my children all together again. He heads to Gulfport tomorrow, weather permitting. For the next few months then back to Port Hueneme. Not sure when he will be back home here on the East coast but I don't think it will be in the winter. lol! He said it was too cold after being on the West coast. Missing him already!
Hi All,. I just found out about this Seabee mom group. My son finishing up boot camp on 1/31 then heading to Leonard Wood for school and then we will see where he goes from there. I have only spoken to him once and received one letter. I sure do miss him and can't wait to get my arms around him at PIR.
Mominconnecticut, My son was in Fort Leonard Wood for his A School after graduation. He is now in Gulfport, MS. If you have any questions, I'd be happy to help :)
Well my bee was able to come home for part of the holidays and is now back in DC. He's putting his name in the ring for a voluntary humanitarian deployment to South Africa. Hopefully he'll know within a month so we can plan either a deployment visit or our Easter break visit ;)
Mominconnecticut, in Navy speak..rate = job rank = pay rate :) I'm always telling my sons to speak english not navy! lol
Mominconnecticut- Sorry for not answering earlier. Yes his position was what I was asking. Sorry I should have been more clear and answered you sooner. Craziness here at home and I haven't been on line much.
Hi everyone, I'm new to Seabee moms. Can anyone tell me the differences between being in a Naval Mobile Construction Battalian vs a Amphibious Construction Battaliain? My son is going into bc this coming Wed and if he does well in school he was been told he will have the choice between these two. I so appreciate any info you may have for me!!!
Welcome Luannc19! The Naval Mobile Construction Battalion is a land unit which is attached to a Marine battalion. I believe the Amphibious unit moves equipment from the sea to the shore.
Luannc, our son was in a Beachmaster unit (amphibious) in Coronado after BC and A school. He was in Coronado in that unit for 3 years. After that he went to Gulfport to enter a NMCB and for combat training. The amphibious unit does a lot of humanitarian work and as far as I know the do not deploy in a combat unit. He received 2 medals for rescuing Marines off the beach! ( kind of funny actually). He did travel a lot for training within the US. He is a CM. I don't know if this helps.
My son will be heading to PH when he finished combat school, but I don't know when that is yet. He is finishing A school in Gulfport this coming Friday and reports to combat school that day. I'm hoping he finds out Friday when he starts combat school and how long it takes. It will be nice to have him closer to home.
Thanks so much Dona and Philips mom. Congrads to your son for the medals! What an honor!! So is it correct in saying that there would be more travel (short assignments and then move on) with the NMCB? He wants to travel, but of course my mom input wants him to be as far from any type of combat as possible. Thanks again for all the info.
Luannc19~ It all depends where the Navy decides to send them! My son's 1st deployment was to Afghanistan. He was supposed to have a 6 month deployment, but he broke his finger and tore ligaments the week before deployment, so he got to stay back for 2-1/2 more months. At the time, I was grateful for the broken finger, but he ended up having to go anyway. Luckily, he was deployed during the "calm" season, and he didn't see much time out of the shop. His next deployment will be for 8-10 months. They may be going to smaller bases now, but we have no idea where he will end up. If he is attached to a Marine unit, they go where they are needed, which doesn't always mean they will be in a combat area. My son was officially the last active duty Seabee to get deployed to Afghanistan, if that helps. Just remember, they don't put them in a combat area unless they are trained, and they usually don't put the newbies in harms way. Do you know where he will go after A School? My son went to Aschool in Port Hueneme and his home base is Gulfport.
My son is scheduled to go to airforce base, Fort Sheppard (not sure of spelling) in Texas for A school. The options from there are either San Diego (Amphibious) or Port Hueneme (NMCB) Thanks for the info regarding your son. Im spending every minute I can with mine until tomorrow night which may be the last time I get to see him.
Luannc19, I live in the city where your son will coming to A school. Its in wichita falls, tx and its Sheppard Airforce base. Good little town. Not much trouble they can get into here lol. Plus they keep a tight grip on them here since this is not their home base.
My son is graduating A school from Port Hueneme this week, after a two week leave he will be reporting to coronodo ACB one, anyone else have someone there?
