Welcome SW!  My son is also an EO and graduated from FLW last November.  He is now in Gulfport.   Happy to answer any questions you might have along the way!

  • Couldntbeprouder Ship12 Div 371

Hi SW.  Welcome!  I am thrilled to see another mom with a sailor at FLW.  My son was on hold for a month after PIR and then on hold for a month when he arrived.  It has been quite an experience since FLW is an Army base with the Navy Seabees secluded in the corner.  The winter is pretty brutal in MO for the EO training.  I'd be happy to share with you what we have learned.  Feel free to email me at on2nursing@yahoo.com.  Congratulations to your daughter with her PIR and advancement towards her EO career.  Kristen

Hello Everyone, i'm a new Seabee mom. My son is located in FLW on an Army base. He's been on hold but i believe class will be starting soon. Looking for anyone having a son or daugther in MO. at this time. Maybe our sailors are roommates.

  • mominconnecticut

Hi there mustang.  My son will be graduating on Friday and heading for FLW for school.  My guess is that they will be in class together.  He will be an EA...how about your son??  I know there is also another boy at BC with him also heading to FLW.

  • mominconnecticut

What is an EO?  My son will an EA (Engineer Aide)...just curious.

  • mustang

    Hi mominconnecticut, EO  (Equipment Operator)

  • Couldntbeprouder Ship12 Div 371

Hi Mustang and Mominconnecticut.  My son has been at FLW since the beginning of November and started school in December.  His EO graduation is set for March 6th.  FLW is a world of its own.  He (which is really "we") =) have learned a lot about how the base and Seabee program is run there.  Cody said RTC was a breeze compared to the rules at FLW.  If they keep their room spotless, they will do good.  Also, a word of advice, send care packages of "quick food".  They don't get to the chow hall very often and since it is an Army base, the food is less than desirable than the Navy meals they have been used to.  I spend $60-$80 a month (plus $20-$25) on shipping monthly to send him food.  I'd be happy to share more if you'd like to email me at on2nursing@yahoo.com  Regardless, the Seabee family is a very tight knit community.  Welcome!!!!!  I am here for you.

  • mustang

Hi Couldntbeprouder, thank you for the information and i will gladly contact you via email for more information, especially about the care packages. My son passed his first room inspection this past thursday!

p.s my email address is hi7rn@aol.com

  • belovedbyHim

Oh and Ladies, My Son learned that trash cans are NOT for trash!!! Failed a room inspection b/c of roommate putting trash in the can and not removing it before the "surprise" inspection.

  • Couldntbeprouder Ship12 Div 371

belovedbyHim, is your son there at FLW now?  That is comical.  Cody failed an inspection because his roommate passed gas to they cracked the window.  The window got closed but not locked, instant fail.

  • belovedbyHim

No he was at Gulfport.  He's in Italy now.  Waiting for him to get assigned a room so he can get internet and we can Skype!!  I've had to settle for messaging on FB.  Not the best way to communicate!

Makes me laugh at the silly things they get fussed at for while at BC and A School!  Guess they are just still trying to get them to pay attention to the details, yet the military on the whole seems to miss some pretty big details!!

  • Carrie (sh 14 Div 104 PIR 3/14)

belovedbyhim- Italy was my husband's favorite duty station and the only one my (now SR) son and were allowed to move to.  Is he in Naples or Sig?

  • belovedbyHim

Carrie- He's in Sig.  We hope to go visit him while he's still there.

  • Carrie (sh 14 Div 104 PIR 3/14)

belovedbyHim Sig is a great base!  We lived there for almost 6 years.  The Sigo Pub is awesome and right across from NAS 1. I am not sure if he is on NAS 1 or NAS 2.  If you get the opportunity to go let me know.  We still have friends there that will love to give you the non tourist tour.  Italians love to show off their country!

  • DaltonsMom (Ship 13 Div 127)

I'm one happy momma! I just found out that my son was named Seabee of the Month! I'm so proud! Just had to share!

  • oceangirl3

    DaltonsMom,

That is awesome! Where is your son stationed?

  • DaltonsMom (Ship 13 Div 127)

In Maryland.... he has been doing really well... he got there at the beginning of August and this is second award since he got there.

  • Couldntbeprouder Ship12 Div 371

Coingratulations to Dalton and DaltonsMom.  =)  What a great honor.

I just sent you a friend request (DaltonsMom), my son is in A School and I have a very specific question about your sons station in Maryland.  My email is on2nursing@yahool.com.  Thank you!

  • barefoot1

Sounds like my son should be in GP by the end of the week!

Congrats, DaltonsMom on your son's achievements!!

  • Karen

DaltonsMom: congrats to you and your Seabee! I will forever be grateful to him for his assistance to my Seabee in Wichita Falls! I never doubted his success!
  • mustang

Congrats Dalton's Mom on your son'ssuccess. May he continue to excel on this Seabee journey!

  • DaltonsMom (Ship 13 Div 127)

    Couldn'tbeprouder: I messaged you.

  • DaltonsMom (Ship 13 Div 127)

Does anyone know if there is a Seabee Moms group on Facebook?

  • Couldntbeprouder Ship12 Div 371

DaltonsMom - There is a FB group called Navy Seabee Moms.

Also, I just sent you a message.  Thanks!

  • SBMom

my son just went to BC and is in his P days.  After BC he will be going to Gulfport, MI as a Seabee - Builder for his A school

  • Carrie (sh 14 Div 104 PIR 3/14)

Hi Sandi, My son is in BC as well.  He will be a CM and his school is in California.  Being from Gulfport, I would love for my son to get a Gulfport battalion.

  • deniseMatt'smom

Hi Sandiggregg, my son is also a builder but graduated A school in Gulfport last March...they learn soooo much in there but it's not easy...lots of tests, studying and work but you will have much more contact with him there and he will eventually have much more freedom too ! My son got his orders for his next assignment right before A school graduation and has been stationed in Key West since....Welcome and good luck to you both !
  • belovedbyHim

Hi Sandiggregg- My son is also a BU and went to A school in Gulfport.  He graduated in Jan of this year and is currently stationed in Italy.  Welcome aboard and enjoy the roller coaster ride.  Have you and Carrie joined Bootcamp moms yet?  It was a lifesaver for me.

  • SBMom

We are very excited for him to start this next chapter in his life.  Fortunately he has already had 2 years of vocational training in high school for building trades and has been working for a construction company since August.  Hopefully this is all good preparation for what is to come.  I know that this is his passion.  Thanks for all the words of encouragement.

  • Beachmom (Ship 13, Div 281)

Good Morning!  My son just completed ECS training and is in Gulfport.  He is an EO.  If any of you are on Facebook, please join our Navy Seabee's Facebook group!

  • ProudMominJersey

Wow!!! I am so happy my son is going to be a Seabee!! It sounds like such great training and something that he can take with him in civilian life. It's so amazing that God gets us where we need to go.

  • barefoot1

Good morning ladies! My son has been in Gulfport for about a month now, and is beginning his 3rd week of A school (steel worker).  Is really enjoying it!  I do have a question for those whose kids have already graduated A school: when class originally started for my son, he was given a 'projected' date for graduation.  Barring complications or any unforeseen incidents from occurring, what are the odds that original graduation date given will hold true?

  • oceangirl3

Good morning Barefoot! My son's projected graduation date was January 17th and that was the day he completed A school. The waiting came after that, as he was in holding to start combat school in Gulfport. He was originally to start Feb 25th, but was classed up early and started on the 18th instead. But that is how the Navy is-"hurry up and wait" :)

  • oceangirl3

    Hi Denise!

Thanks for the Team Seabee picture! I wasn't sure if I could post it on my personal Facebook page, so I emailed it to my Seabee and he loved it!

  • barefoot1

Thanks oceangirl - just trying to figure out if his projected grad date from there of 3/31 will be accurate...for trip scheduling purposes, of course :-)

Denise, LOVED the racecar picture on FB and shared it to my son's FB as well!

  • belovedbyHim

Barefoot1- My Bee was right on track even with the Christmas holidays a week and a half before graduation.  Classing up was a whole other story.  He kept getting bumped by others who are higher up on the Training list.  I would not schedule a trip until he has started classes since he may phase up while on hold only to be back at phase 1 once classes start.

  • barefoot1

He started his 3rd week of classes today - had made the comment to me that this part was expected to only be 7 weeks, and the combat training to begin at some point after which would last approximately 4 weeks.

  • belovedbyHim

Yep- A school for seabees goes quick.  My son didn't have combat training though so I don't know how quick they class up there.  I'm guessing it will likely be more hurry up and wait though.  I'd be impressed if he was completely done in 11 weeks.

  • SeaWolfette

Hi All - Very proud to attend our sailor's graduation from CM A-School in Port Hueneme last week on Feb 19.  Happy to share photos with anyone - just send me a message :)

  • barefoot1

Talked with my son last night and he had forgotten to tell me his grad date is different from what he originally thought.  At any rate, he went on to say I shouldn't bother spending "$500+ to fly down for it" (I already checked and it would NOT be that much!) because he figures he'll have leave time between schools.  He went in the hole at Christmas time so I really don't think he'll have accumulated enough by then - but more importantly, even though to him it doesn't seem like that big of a deal (and I appreciate his concern for my dollars!), graduating from A school is not something I want to miss!

  • Sarabi2013

SeaWolfette-We were at our sailor's graduation in Port Hueneme last week too! A message is coming your way!

  • Sarabi2013

barefoot1-This is info from a "relatively new" Navy Mom. We were at our sailor's "A" school graduation last week. We were SO glad to be there! We did not expect him home afterwards due to using all his accrued and some future vacation days to be home during the holidays. So, imagine our surprise when he called us from the airport on Thursday to say he's home for a week! He hasn't exactly shared how this happened for him to be home this week but...here he is. He convinced some people not to share the surprise while we were at his graduation. It certainly worked. So, know it may be possible for your sailor to be home after "A" school...

Just coming back to this group while my son is back stateside duty again.  I was on Guam moms during deployment and on Moms with kids in Afghanistan.  So happy two deployments over and we have him back at GP for awhile.  I get to go Friday to see him and get to attend Seabee Day at the base while I'm there visiting.  Looking forward to a week with him.  I just needed to jump back into a group though. And stay connected.  I love all our Navymoms.  Whichever season our service time is taking my son the groups on Navyformoms has been a daily support. I'll try to get familiar with all of you.

  • barefoot1

Sarabi2013 - THANK YOU!!  Even if it isn't a big ordeal, it still is an accomplishment and something I would like to see.  At this point from what he has told me, he is at the top of his class so to ME, it is NOT a 'waste of money' as my son puts it! Appreciate him being concerned about me, but nonetheless really want to be there, even if I turn around and get back on a plane later that same day!

  • Daniele(Ship02 Div922)

I'm new to all of this. My daughter is currently at BC and will be a SEABEE when she completes A school.

  • belovedbyHim

    Welcome to the Bee's Daniele.

Happy Birthday to all the Bee's wherever they may be!

  • barefoot1

WOW this format is different!  I haven't been online here in several days!

Not sure who posted the Seabee birthday icon on FB this morning but just had to share it on my own page!

Have my trip booked for heading to GP in another month - can't wait!

Welcome, Daniele!  My son has been in GP since the beginning of February for 'A' school; his PIR was 11/27.  The ladies here are very welcoming!

  • SheisaSeabee Ship11/Div420

Hello everyone! It's been awhile for me too. Welcome to all the newcomers! My daughter got to GP last Saturday and started ECS on Monday. Her graduation date is March 28th and then she will be assigned to battalion 11. She is doing well and very excited about the future! I hope everyone else is doing well also!! Happy Birthday Seabees!
  • Beachmom (Ship 13, Div 281)

SheisaSeabee, My son is also with Batallion 11.  He has been in GP since last November.  He is an EO.

If any of you are on Facebook, a lot of the Seabee Mom's have joined the "Seabee Mom's" page.  It's just another way to connect!
