Thank you for the information, my daughter is ABH, so I guess that means she is in NAS.  Is that the case even if she is on hold?

  • Ilvmysailor

My son is done with A school he's coming home for a visit, was so nice to be in this site everybody is very helpful. Thank's to you all I could make it. God Bless you all for all the help!!

  • BeachBunny

When on hold there's other classes the sailors take, many muster calls, barrack support, duty rotation( 3 days every 4th weekend) and barrack support. learning the big base, room inspections(scheduled and surprise) and PT..plenty to do, still working on learning the Navy way.

  • BeachBunny

Congrads llvmysailor...enjoy your visit....warms our mom hearts..:)

  • Dan's Mom

Was just wondering my son arrived to Pensacola for IT A school last night, talked to him on his cell, but have not been able to talk to him all day, are the restricted in making phone calls?? Any help would be appreciated.
  • kanuckone

My son got there last Sun. He didn't have his phone b/c we weren't able to go to the airport. So he borrowed someone else's. My guess is he is catching up on his sleep. Weekends they relax, rest and recoupe.
  • BeachBunny

Yip..phase one has lots of limits...which base is he at? There's four bases there....they have muster call (several times per day), barrack support shifts (which can be 6 hours long), duty watch weekend (three full days, rotation every 4th weekend), INDOC class and lots of PT.

  • Michelle

Hello everyone, my son got into school last Saturday and is actual just relaxing as I am to. I don't seem to worry as much any more because I can call or text him almost anytime. I do have a question if anyone can help out here. I am mailing Johnny a box of civilian clothes and some Advil and allergy med., is this ok to mail and maybe some trick or treat candy. This is my first time on this site, I w s a part of the Div 949 before and just finally catching up on all my stuff I have put aside. I must say this site has been very wonderful in helping me get past Boot Camp. Thank all of you, Michelle
  • kay( ship 12 div 397)

Dan's Mom as far as I know there are no restrictions on phone calls, my son text and calls us frequently. They just have to be on their own time.

  • ChambosMom

Some over the counter and prescribed meds are not allowed. I would have your sailor check before sending. You would not want him to get in trouble for having them
  • BeachBunny

Just like ChambosMom said check on the meds before sending.....Depends on his training, they have a list of approved over the counter meds and supplements they can take...they sell them at the NEX....send cookies, candy, dried fruit, jerky, nuts, sunscreen, small football, squirt gun....to name a few things...:)

  • BeachBunny

Welcome any new BC moms...new sailors coming in today! Congrats on the PIR!

I was standing in the barrack one Saturday afternoon when the fresh out of BC arrivals came in, poor were they tired from being up early and traveling all day. Didn't know what to do yet, not relaxed in their roles yet....they will get there, as they settle into their training course....some are there only 8-9 weeks and then others in Pcola for 6-12 months for their training....

  • bigsis

Hi Ladies, I'm probably getting a head of myself. My SR has a PIR of 11-27-13 and will be come to Pensacola for his A school.  This site helped me through BC so I wanted to go ahead and join this site.

  • BeachBunny

    Welcome..

You might want to start by reading a couple of pages back to learn some basics about Pcola, there's another Pcola group it has several discussions on the top about the bases (4 of them), the area (tips for visiting) and training (over 700 courses) in Pcola, might be worth a pop over to the group too, I read both.:)   http://navyformoms.com/group/sailorsinpensicolaflforaschool

  • bigsis

    Thanks beachbunny.
  • kanuckone

Today my son, that arrived there October 20th, informed me that he has liberty from Dec 21-Jan 2nd. Well actually from Friday at 1600. Hope this helps.
  • Jessica21:)

But someone told me that if they leave for Christmas that their leave after graduation will be so short since they are taking a leave on the Christmas break. So some don't come home because of that. If someone knows different we could use some help.
  • BeachBunny

Depends on the training program and how much time they have saved up....some are in Pcola for 6-12 months for their training so at 2.5 days a month that adds up....then you can work RAP when at home and get the time added back ....:)

These dates are close to what dates kanucone posted too, Moms from last year said they had time off at the holidays last year too:

This is what was on the BC group about holiday stand down( from lemeonelephant): "your then Sailor will check in at his "A" School and fill out a chit and will be able to take about 10 days of leave sometime over the holiday stand-down period. All of the "A" Schools observe a holiday stand-down around Christmas and the New Year.  For most "A" Schools it will be at the close of business on the 12/20/2013 through 01/05/2014. That is the only time that Sailors are able to take Leave before the end of "A" School or training and one of the only times that a command will allow Sailors to go into the hole on leave days."

"Sailors earn 2.5 days of leave for each month of service beginning with the day they are sworn in at MEPS on the way to the RTC. They usually are not allowed to take more Leave than they have accrued, but they can usually take up to 10 days of Leave over the holiday stand-down, which may result in them "going in the hole" (taking more days than they have on the books). Sailors who do that may not have earned back enough days to take Leave again at the end of "A" School depending on how long the "A" School is. All Sailors who are already in "A" School before the holiday stand-down will be offered an opportunity to put in a chit to take Leave for part of the holiday stand-down."

Hope so ...for all you "A" school...mommas!

Note: Southwest airlines is having a sale, check them out for flights they now have flights leaving PNS going non-stop to Houston and Nashville for more connection then just going thru Atlanta....could $$ you money on flights, plus they will let you make changes for no service fee, which is usually $200-250.

  • Jessica21:)

Okay so if he gets there 11/17 will he be able to take some leave in the holiday stand down and also be able to take his leave after he has graduated a school. Or does it just depend. And his school is for 4 weeks. But from what I know he will more then likely be on hold for atleast two weeks until he classes up.
  • BeachBunny

It depends on his orders after A school and where he is going some go straight to C school or duty, many go home for a leave and can work RAP for up to 5 days to earn time back...plus there's hold times before classing up.....what's his rating?

  • Jessica21:)

He's in aviation machinist. And from what he said he said he's not going to c school from what he was told he said they told him he would get leave after he got his orders and then go to where his orders take him. He told me that if he can't get the leave over the holiday stand down then it's okay that he rather have his leave after graduation. And yes I do know already they are on hold before by class up.

  • BeachBunny

tersatbi----when is PIR for your sailor?

  • steviesmama

Hello, My son is in A school for ABF. He said his classes won't start until next month. He has been there since 11-9. I pray that he comes home for Christmas.

  • BeachBunny

So he just got there this weekend, Monday was a holiday....did he have INDOC yet?.....he should know soon when he has leave for the  holiday stand down...

My husband graduates from A School in February (not sure about the date), he is ATO. Anyone got some info on the graduation process for the family? I know PIR is a big deal and family attends, but is it the same for their A school graduation?

  • nancynature

Kurts' mom - have you gotten any answers from anyone in this group yet from your message that was sent to us?

Galvanfoxtrot - A School grad is not a huge production. I have heard it goes quickly but those that have attended wouldn't have missed it. When mine gets to that point I plan on attending if at all possible.

  • Cihuacoatl77

After leave my son has 4 or 5 days left of A school in January then he will head to Whidbey Island.  Thank you for all of the insight to Pensacola.

  • Tracy

Hi All, new here, my daughter has been in Pensacola since November 11th, just found this group.

  • Tracy

Steviesmom, my daughter arrived in Pensacola on November 10th. She did get to come for for Xmas, did your son? She is still waiting on school to start. What is he studying?
  • steviesmama

Tracy, My son didn't get to come home for Christmas because it was very expensive. But Boise is a small airport so everything is expensive here. He already started classes and will graduate on 1-31-14. Lord willing he might be able to come home for a visit after that depending on his orders. My son is an ABF.

  • Proudmomjesus (Ship 13 Div 060)

Hello everyone, my son just flew today to Pensacola, from chicago, he's soooo exited about it. and ready to start his new adventure.  Now he did say he had to stand by for two weeks... So what will he be doing meanwhile?

  • geema3

My grandson has moved on from P'cola A school. Checked into JAX NAS

I've enjoyed reading the postings, even though I've only posted a few times in my several months of membership.  It seems like it's time to move on from this group. May all your Sailors and Airman be safe and well.

'Fair winds and following seas' to all

  • ginwilliam

My son graduates A school on 23 Jan. Does anyone have info regarding graduation. Also he has not received orders for next phase (should be C school). Is this normal?
  • SeanMom

My son graduated a week before Christmas.  He wasn't able to make plans to come home for Christmas because he didn't get his orders until a few days before graduation.  He said the graduation was short. He is still in Pensacola until March.  He will start C School soon.  In March he leaves for Hawaii and will be there for the next three years.  He hopes he may be able to come home on leave in February before heading to Hawaii.  He is a CTR.

  • TexasMom

Hey Pensacola A School Moms!  My sailor's PIR was on 1/17/14 and he left the next day for Aviation Avionics Electronics Technician (AT) training in Pensacola.   I would like to meet other Navy Moms who have had a sailor or who has a sailor going through the same training so I know what to expect. Please friend me or reply here/  Appreciate anything you can provide!

  • ProudNavyMomInFL

TexasMom - my son is Aviation Electrician (AE), I think virtually is the same? Anyway, he PIR on 10/25 and just classed up (started class) on 1/8.  From what I hear it is about a 4 month training program (depending on holds in between).  Hope that helps and congrats!

  • geema3

Mine left Pensacola for JAX NAS 1st week January. He's an AE and will be doing 'C' school in June. He's learning about p3 and P8 planes. Learn a lot from this group, lingo, training schedules, getting around in Pensacola and why he doesn't keep in touch as much as I hoped.;-) .

As he now has moved on, so will I. Fair Winds and Following seas to y'all.

  • Djmom

Hello my son went to Pensacola Florida on February 1st. Before I was seeking support and information on what to expect while he was in boot camp. Now I want information about A-school. His training will be for aviation machinist mate.
  • michaelsmom

Djmom there is a group for AD moms, girlfriends and loved ones. My son also arrived there on feb first it will take awhile for them to class up about 2 months
  • Djmom

    Ok thanks.
  • SeanMom

My son has graduated from A School in December and C School yesterday in Pensacola and is now home for 2 precious weeks before he leaves for Hawaii in March.  It's been fun and informative reading your comments.  Good luck to all you and your Sailors!

  • TexasMom

Hi Navy Moms!  My sailor started A School for AT Avionic.  His class hours are from 1500 - 2300.  Does anyone else have a sailor doing that?

  • Shauna

Hi TexasMom!  My son just started his basic electronic class yesterday and told me those will be his class hours as well.  He said that class is a month long then he will have a week break and then he will start class for this actual job (which he said is 100 days). His rating is ATI.  Oh and we're from San Antonio as well. His PIR was 1/31/14 so it looks like your son has been there a couple weeks longer than mine.

  • nancynature

Hi Navy Moms! I just wanted to pop in and wish all new Moms' sailors good luck. My time here is coming to an end as my son will be graduating tomorrow and will be heading on to his new duty station in VA. I wish you all the best and Godspeed to your sons and daughters! Thank you to all who have helped me along the way.

  • BoomMom

My son is IT, A school classed up a week ago Tuesday (2/11), and has class 0600-1530.  Staying for C school afterwards.  Anyone else have son/daughter with same?

  • Ps93:4

Hello, anyone have a sailor in aircrew candidate school that began Feb 24? Been waiting since Dec 3,2013 so wondering how long this part should be??

  • amos

My son is leaving for boot on 9-9 then going to Pensacola as AC, anyone else have a child go thru this A school? Just wondering if he will stay in FL after A school.

  • Todd

Hi Amos and others,  My son graduated Nov. 1 from BC and flew straight to Pensacola where he was on hold in for 2 months. He started NACCS after the holidays and graduated at the end of Jan. (about 3 weeks of classes and PT). They get their AC rating at this time.  He is AWV. After that, he moved to the other side of the base and then after INDOC, he schooled up for his A school.  3 weeks of ATT (basic electricity) and then on to more advanced courses which is another 8 weeks.  He's there now, and graduates on May 5th.  He said he doesn't know where he goes next.  Could be SERE school, Jacksonville, Whitbey Island in Seattle????  Only time will tell I guess.  :-)
