Storymom, that is an AMAZING photo! Wow!
  • Helomom

I have a question...where is the best place to watch fireworks on the 4th if you live in the Eagle Harbor/Fleming Island Plantation side of Orange Park?
  • Storymom

Jess....sounds like you need to talk to the ombudsman that is associated with your sailor's squadron. He/she should be able to assist you in many ways re: the move, where to stay, problems with paychecks, etc. Hopefully someone will speak up here and lead you in the right direction as to how to contact the ombudsman in JAX.

  • Storymom

Thanks Dusty, for clearing that up...it makes sense now....Good to know for future reference too.

30 days of observer school is OVER!!...My son graduates on Tuesday (along with Jim's) from that part of training! Onward to the next "phase" Yay for the boys!
    Navy ON!
  • Storymom

    Congrats Rafael!!
  • Storymom

    Yea Awesome P-8's!
  • Helomom

Excellent Rafael! San Diego to JAX. My son just did that one in May. I-8 to I-10 and drive to the end of the road...
  • Helomom

He didn't have the family with him on this last trip. Looking at my text logs it looks like Las Cruces, NM the first night. Houston, TX the second night and JAX the third night. That's a 9 hour day, a 10 hour day, and a 13 hour day. He really pushed it. It's a solid 4 day trip at least with a family.
  • Helomom

Rafael- Just got confirmation from my son, 3 days. He's in Fallon right now at training. He texted... 3. Man of few words, I guess.
  • Storymom

Yay for Rafael Apple! Safe and Sound and tucked in bed too!
What more could a bunch of Navy Moms ask for? Good job...you done good!
and we wish you good things at your new base!

Hi Rafael- Good to see that you got safely to JAX! Good luck with the apartment hunting this weekend. Hopefully something will just fall into place. I think someone mentioned the Orange Park area. I saw lots of really nice looking apartments during our visit there in June. The drive to the air station and back doesn't appear to be too bad. Good luck!
  • Storymom

    Jim Gramza....some little college, hahaha...

  • Storymom

Jor-Jean 'Hip Hip Hooray' for your Son, the NEW AM in the NAVY!
  • Storymom

ok, somebody remind me what an AM rating is,
    ???? something....mechanic?
  • Helomom

Jim- I think HS-15 had transitioned to the 60 now, but I could be wrong. There was a nice article on the squadron in the JaxAirNews. http://www.jaxairnews.com/stories/081309/mil_hs15.shtml
  • Helomom

Hi Margaret! Welcome to the group. I'm a Dusty mom.
  • Storymom

    Hurrah for KYLE! Navy On!
  • Helomom

I got a call from my son tonight, he's in Orange Park. They were able to see this evening's shuttle launch while standing in their driveway. That is some fireball! He said they could see the booster kick-in. Pretty cool.
  • Storymom

Jor Jean....my sailor thinks JAX barracks is way nicer than Pensacola, 2 to a room, and access right to the outside. Windows, twin beds, not bunks
still some dead spots for cell phone reception, so he usually goes outside to talk.
    Good Luck to your guy!
  • Storymom

    That is so cool JIM!
  • Storymom

It's too quiet on here...Where is everybody?
Happy Labor Day weekend and stay safe, please!!

  • Helomom

Rafe- I thought you were crazy to do that drive in two days. I'm just glad you made it in one piece. Are you and your family getting settled in?
  • Helomom

Ombudsman Appreciation Day is today! Thank you Dusty for all you do!
  • Storymom

My son is down in Orlando this weekend to see the sights...Wet and wild Theme Park, Al Capone's Comedy/Dinner/Theater Club, and Horror Fright Nights at Universal Studios or something like that...I haven't googled it yet... His hotel looks really nice with a cool pool....His frst time to the Orlando area, after being in JAX since spring.........
He says it's 80 degrees or so!
(Cloudy and 55 degrees in the Pacific Northwest!) :(
  • Storymom

nice table decorations...am liking the Tee Shirts too!
Great to see you all getting together!

  • Helomom

Did anyone have a sailor who saw the President today?
  • Storymom

    Welcome aboard Margy!
Yes..my son was in the hanger along with 1,000 other sailors...the local news station carried it live, ONLINE, so I tried to catch a glimpse of him whenever the camera 'panned' the audience...no luck but we texted back and forth during it..what a mass of sailors and marines, I tell ya!..
  • Storymom

This is just a small portion of the hangar where Obama was speaking. (stage is to the right of the photo) Anybody see anyone they know?
  • Storymom

and another one, toward the stage...from WAAAAAY BAAAACK! HA!
  • Helomom

Cool! No matter what your politics, the chance to see the President of the United States is pretty darned cool. It's not something that happens everyday.
  • Helomom

Dusty- It's raining and 42 degrees... I'll trade ya!
  • Mari

Hi all want to introduce myself to the group. My son is in Pensacola and just got his orders today....he will be going to Jacksonville, assigned to the VP-26. Looking forward to sharing with others in the group.
  • Storymom

Welcome Mari! We hear the weather is cooling off now in JAX
and the stars are so bright at night, (my sailor says anyway!)
  • Storymom

Hey Jim...who do you cheer for when Notre Dame and Navy play?? eh?
  • Storymom

My son found out his assignment will bewith a squadron in Hawaii, he's happy too!
  • Mari

Storymom congrats on your sons assignment. Sounds like a great place to go to.

Jim my son was assigned to VP-26 and will be a Trident.
  • Storymom

Thanks everyone for the kind thoughts! Hawaii will be a wonderful adventure and he's looking forward to it...BUT he has had a great time in Jacksonville! He visited St. Augustine, did some Scuba diving, visited some old plantations, went to Orlando, Cape Canaveral, tasted 'gator on a stick' AND went deep sea fishing!
Your lovely state was good to him! THANKYOU!
  • Helomom

I thought I'd share this article I read this weekend in our local newspaper. It really has a lot of good information for Navy families.

Happy Holidays back at ya, Dusty!
  • Storymom

Our son is home with us for a holiday vacation! Yay! He said it was a long flight Having a little trouble with the time change adjustment (3 hours!) So happy to hug him, and just have his 'presence' around the house. His little brother is delighted! Jacksonville, you'll have him back after the New Year!
  • Helomom

Happy New Year all you Navy JAX families! We were very fortunate to have our son and his family visit us for Christmas. It was a bonus holiday as his squadron was supposed to be at sea by now. We hope to swing out that way before they deploy in the Spring.
  • Storymom

Our son is on his way back to you, Jacksonville! Just said goodbye at the airport, ....gulp, sigh..

It was great having him for awhile...
Happy New Year and Bless our Sailors Everywhere!
