My husnabd and I are new to NAS JAX and I was wondering if there are any get togethers for wives, or activities to do so we can get to know some people that are stationed here?
  • Kalynn

OSWife3- A bunch of my friends and I rotate hosting family game night at our houses on base.  We usually meet around 5:30 have dinner (sometimes pot luck) then we play a game (dominoes, spades, phase 10, things, taboo, monopoly, life).  You are more than welcome to come join us!  Our next one is this Friday, message me if your interested and I'll give you the details.
  • Kalynn

livlaughluv - yes our cottages/cabins are amazing!  There are 16 Heritage Cottages on base they are 875 sq. ft. individual private units in the woods along the golf course across the street from the hospital, they are 2-bedroom cottages (2 handicap accessible). All units sleep 6 with 1 queen bed, 2 twin beds and 1 queen sleeper sofa. Fully equipped with complete kitchen (dishes, silverware, cookware...cause you know your honeys gonna want a nice home cooked meal!), washer/dryer, linens, screened patio, 2 TVs, DVD/VCR. Daily housekeeping service provided.  It costs $69 a night and worth EVERY penny!
  • Kalynn

These pictures don't do it justice, but just to give you an idea!

are there any wives that can help me meet other military spouses. My wife is gonna deploy in May and i'd like to know some good people. My wife is the service member and i'm the spouse. Bet you don't see that everyday.

    stay safe and God Bless
  • Kalynn

Nope you don't see that often...it reminds me of army wives (Roland). But you and your wife are welcome to meet up with us as well for family game night...there will be active duty guys for you to bond with.
  • Proud Navy husband

yep. my wife and i watch Army Wives and i agree. I just need to meet others cuz i know it isn't gonna be easy and it's always best to get to know other people who can relate.
  • Kalynn

Wow Deidra!  That can be a VERY scary thing!  Do you know what command he is in?  You will need to call Fleet & Family Services 904-542-2766 and request contact information on his command Ombudsman, she will track him down for you and do the best possible to get him to contact you!  Good luck, I hope everything is ok!
  • Kalynn

So I am forming a softball team that will play in a womens league here on base and need some more ladies! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE message me if you would be interested in playing!!!!!!!! We may not be very good but it's a way to get out of the house, exercise, socialize and have some fun! We're very desperate!!!!! Games start the week of the 21st and go through the end of May, so if you moving (Kursten) and would like to join part way through that would be great too!!!!!!
  • Kalynn

    Permanent change if duty station
  • ILivLaughLuvU

Kalynn, I'm planning on living in Jacksonville during the month of May. If the league is still going on I'd love to join in and play, I'm not good at all, but it's something to do! =)
  • Kalynn

Definitely!!!! We are in desperate need of some people, and it will help you meet new people!!! :) I'll look forward to meeting you!
  • Tee-1sailor's mom

I'm going to JAX in June and plan to stay at the Navy Lodge for a night or 2.  Has anyone stayed there?  My son says it's pretty reasonable.
  • ILivLaughLuvU

Hey everyone! I havnt written here in quite some time... My boyfriends back from deployment! Unfortunately he got hurt which caused him to be back already, but hopefully it turns out to be something where he can still work his job, he's really worried about that. I'm just glad to have him back and safe! He shocked me I was at work and got a call from his cell phone, i near panicked because I thought he was in Afghanistan! Haha.. He is planning on visiting me in two weeks here at school in TN and then we're going to drive home together to see our families in New York! Lots of travels ahead, I'm so excited I can't wait! Just thought I'd update you all since I havnt been around for some time! Hope everyones doing good as well!! =)

Oh and Tee - I stayed in the navy lodge there before and I liked it. It has a mini kitchen with stovetop micro and fridge and all utensils and in the lobby there are machines just incase you forget anything (I must say I always forget something) it's also pretty close to walk places, me and my boyfriend walked around a lot and we went to the clubhouse on the golf course to eat one day which was nice and close! :)
  • Kalynn

That Pool won't open till may...but the indoor pool will be open for about another month before it undergoes some reconstruction. Indoor hours are 0530-0800, 1100-1300, and 1630-2000. And guest admission is $3.

The lodge is a nice place to stay, better than your average hotel, but if there's space the cottages (cabins) cost the same and its like you have the luxury of being in your own home...2 bedroom, 1 bath, living room, dining room, fully equipt kitchen, washer and dryer, porch, etc. The only issue is there is only 10or 12 of them so it's hit or miss if there will be one available, sometimes I call and they have one available the day of other times I call and there won't be a vacancy for a month. 904-542-3138 Good luck and I hope you enjoy your stay! Hopefully we will have better weather for you! Poor spring breakers are getting overcast and rain and even a little cold front this week. Crazy!

What a beautiful picture.....thank you NavyDadJim for the group....my son is very excited to be going to Jax.  He has heard good things....he will be there later in the week.  I will browse the discussions to learn as much as I can.....any insight is much appreciated.  Hope everyone is having a wonderful week.
  • Tee-1sailor's mom

Thanks for the info on the Navy Lodge.  I'll only be there for 2 nights, one at each end of a weekend so just need a place to sleep.

    That's exciting about the P-8 arriving!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

  • Tee-1sailor's mom

My son also said it's hot already in JAX.  I'll be there in June and then again In July.  We're from Calif. so we're used to HOT but not HUMID.  NDJ, I'll bet it was great to be there during the Aviation Centennial.  My son said there were a lot of folks there.  My niece stayed at the Navy Lodge when she visited him, the Navy person just has to check you in, and he's letting us borrow his truck so hopefully it will all work out.  We already have reservations.

Anyone here attend an AWO graduation?  Any tips?  One of my trips is for that purpose. YEAH!

  • Proud Navy husband

hey people, are there any family members of the HSM-70? If so, look for the command's FRG page on Facebook. you can find it under HSM-70 Family Readiness Group.
  • navymom3

I have been on this site for several months now. But just saw the group for mom's with sailors stationed at NAS JAX. My oldest son has been at NAS Jax since feb. He is an AT2 and has been in for 5 yrs now. We moved to Jacksonville also when he did. Our middle son is at A school in Pensacola. He is CTM.
  • 20100510navymom

Hi all, my son just got back from SERE......and we are looking into visiting Jax.  I found the pics posted on Heritage Cottages, those look really nice.  Has anyone recently stayed in them?

    Thanks.

  • navymom3

  • Tee-1sailor's mom

When my Navy Mom group was in Florida last month, we spent the day in St. Augustine.  tI was really fun !!!  We had lunch with my sailor and one of his friends.  What a wonderful trip it was.
  • Tee-1sailor's mom

btw, I got to spend more time with him than that. LOL
  • Tee-1sailor's mom

Hi everyone, I'm back from FL where I had the great honor of seeing my son graduate and become a Petty Officer Third Class.  He's now an official Aircrew Operator, Acoustic.  It was wonderful to be there and spend time with him.  His father and wife, my daughter and granddaugther and Navy Mom friend and her husband were there to share it with me.  He's off on leave with a buddy taking an Amtrack trip up the East Coast.
  • 20100510navymom

That is so wonderful Tee!  Congratulations!  Please tell me more about the graduation.....my son will graduate in Jan/Feb.

We just got back from visiting there too.  St. Augustine was just beautiful!

I hope everyone is doing well and take good care.

  • Tee-1sailor's mom

OK, well I was getting a complex from posting so much! LOL  Graduation was awesome.  Only one person didn't have family there and the classmates went up to have pics taken with him/her (can't remember which).  There was cake & beverages, and they played videos before the ceremony of various Aircrew stuff.  They let the family come up to take pics with their sailor during the ceremony, and later we got to go inside a P-3 in the hanger.  They had on their "whites" which I love.  I was formal, but casual at the same time.  I was one proud mama !!!  I'll post a pic when I find one that meets OPSEC.

  • Tee-1sailor's mom

    IT was formal (not I)...sorry
  • 20100510navymom

I love reading the updates Tee, so helpful to me!  How cool to get to go inside the P-3......Can't wait to see the pic!  :)

  • Tee-1sailor's mom

Awww, thank for sharing that Marybeth.  Not my son's Squadron, but it's good to see!
  • Tee-1sailor's mom

It was awesome 20100510, especially seeing my son's "station."
  • navymom06

Thanks to all of you who participate in the packing party.  I know it means the world to the troops.  VP-10, from NAS JAX is currently deployed to the Middle East and packages are a good moral booster.  Prayers are certainly needed, but some caring from home in a box is important too.
  • Tee-1sailor's mom

Marybeth, I'm so jealous of you being a JAX Navy Mom! LOL  Mine will probably be there for the duration and I'll be visiting, probably next summer, so maybe I can meet some of you then.  I'll check out your link.  Does MAS send to Air Squadrons?  I was under the impression that packages only went to ships.

Yes NDJ, JAX is amazing.  We went to the "museum/park" of old aircraft and walked around looking close up at some amazing things.  I also loved the nature walk.....I refrained from buying anymore "Proud Navy Mom" stuff from the NEX, do I get points for restraint? LOL  Yep, the hanger in VP-30...we got some great pics. My son's graduation was a very proud day:)  The men and women who graduated were so impressive....just young men and women, but so much more....our defenders! HOOYAH!

  • Gina - Ship 07, Div. 050

Hi all, I'm Gina and I'm new to the group.  My son is currently in that unspoken 2 week course up north and will be in JAX afterwards.  GO NAVY!
  • navymom3

Welcome Gina. I live in Jax and have a son stationed in Jax and one heading to Japan in a month.
  • Tee-1sailor's mom

Wow Marybeth, we need to switch!  Mine is from Calif and stationed in JAX!

    Gina...(((Navy Mom HUGS))))) for that!

  • Gina - Ship 07, Div. 050

Thanks Everybody!  I can't wait until Saturday when I can speak to my son again.  It supposedly rained in Maine while he was "on the course."  Oh good grief, the poor guy.  His poor newly-wed bride is just beside herself with worry, I'm telling her that everything will be ok.  I hope I'm not lying.
  • Gina - Ship 07, Div. 050

LOL....he already did the drowning part in NACCS, so I'm confident he has that mastered by now!
  • gabbyhat

Hi everyone! I'm gabby and am new to the group...my dtr checked out of Pcola this past Saturday, and is now out west fixin to attend that 'two week camping trip in the woods'. • Dunesmom

I found you all and i'm so excited.  My Son is waiting class to start and getting aquanted (sp) with his new digs.  Has a few buds already there so makes it nice to transition to the new base.  I'm off to catch up on some reading here to see how everyone is doing.  Thanks for letting me join..Dunesmom
  • navymom3

Welcome dunesmom, I remember seeing you in one of the same groups a while back. I have 2 boys in the navy. My oldest is stationed at NAS JAX and the middle son is still at Corry station. We also live in the Jacksonville area. Right now its been raining here but it is nice here. If you have any questions about the area just ask.
  • gabbyhat

Hi all,....well my dtr made it off the SERE mtn....reports to JAX sometime Saturday....new chapter in her Navy life!!! Can't wait to come visit once she settles in....with all the holidays coming up...probably won't be til early 2012..
  • navymom3

gabbyhat- glad she made it thru sere training. It is suppose to be real nice this weekend. If she needs a place to go on Thanksgiving she is more than welcome to come to my house. We are about 20 min drive from NAS Jax.
  • gabbyhat

Thank you so much navymom3....so sweet of you to open your home....am hoping that she can get leave that long weekend, and can get her flight ASAP once she arrives to her new command...she will still b on hold for awhile....wants to come home to Houston, and have her fiance fly out from SD to meet her TX relatives....but if things do not work out...so nice of you to offer....:-)
  • Dunesmom

So i guess it's alot warmer in Jacksonville than here at home.  My Sailor is freezing.  Came home on that plane in shorts and flip flops.  We found some old cloths of his but no shoes.  oh well at least the rest of him is warm.
  • navymom3

dunesmom- It is a lot warmer here in jacksonville. My boys live in shorts and I live in my Hawaiian dresses I got when we lived there. It is cooling off at night again but still over 80 during the day.
  • navymom3

Hey Jim, We had a few moms join whose sailors are either getting stationed here in Jax or they are going to c school here. I have a sailor stationed here in Jax as well as live here now also. So I try to answer there questions if I can. I also have a sailor still in Pensacola waiting for c school to start.
  • gabbyhat

Hey NavyDadJim, navymom3 has done a great job helping all us newbies!!! My dtr gets to JAX sometime after midnight tonight....just completed SERE in SD, and is awaiting her C school....so glad to be here....
