Thought you all might enjoy seeing the very tear jerking moments that have happened over the last couple weeks as we welcomed home VP45 and VP10 from their 6 month deployments to multiple sites including Africa, Italy, and El Salvador. I am a spouse of a VP45 sailor and business owner/operator of KBR Kreations Photography, I volunteered my photography for 6 out of 7 of the VP 45 homecomings and one of them was a joint homecoming with VP10. The one homecoming I didn't shoot was my own, I promised my husband I wouldn't work at our own homecoming...so I hired a photographer ;) lol I know for sure of one dad in this group who's son came home with VP45, I wonder how many others in this group have loved ones I was able to capture!? Hope you Enjoy the Photos!! =)
zzsmom- My son says that the barracks is about 2 blocks from vp30. He said the base isn't that big. And the galley is in between the barracks and vp30.
vp30 that's where my son is at and he just got a car so this info is going to come in handy and he will freak out when i as him about all this stuff. Love it cause he always goes, how do you know this mom.......oh yea N4M's
hmmm Just called my Son and what did i hear in the background? bowling pins crashing.....He's taking a few hours before watch. Sure am going to miss him this Christmas.
Hey dunesmom- both of my sailors are home. My older sailor lives here and my middle sailor is home on leave before he heads to Japan. Things are going good. Middle sailor is making homemade pizza tonight for dinner. The older sailor is whinning why don't you make something normal. He made curry the other night and the family didn't like it. But him and I did. I don't know where the middle son got his taste buds in liking to try new stuff.
Hey dunesmom and navymom3...my dtr is on her way to Baltimore to spend time with her dad's family and friends til next week, then XMAS in Indiana with the fiancé and future in laws...very excited, since the fiancé is stationed in SD. We saw them both Thanksgiving here in TX...but I will b seeing her in JAX end of Feb...so all good. How's the Navy LOdge there? Decent kitchen? Want to cook some homecooked meals...:)
Navymom3...you r so sweet to offer....really appreciate it...she is gonna check the Lodge out when she gets back from leave....so guess will wait til then to find some things out...still trying to decide whether I need to rent a car, as she has one on base, but will be in class by then and not sure of her hours...really looking forward to spending time with her in JAX...visited there once when I was 12....don't remember much since that was quite some time ago...lol. But can't wait to see everything JAX has to offer!
Gabby if you can use her car while she is at work then you would not need one. But if you can't you may want one. Jax is a very large city now. I have still not seen a bunch of Jacksonville. We have been here since feb.
Sounds wonderful Ladies, so glad you get to spend time with your Sailors! Please let me know about the lodge as we are heading down in April and want to make the reservations as soon as we can. I know the lodge was wonderful in P'cola so i'm betting its nice in JAX too. hmmm now i want pizza but will have to settle for coffee and some kind of breakfast samich. Have a wonderful Day All!
Morning ladies....navymom3, will probably rent small car since I don't know if she will be able to pick me up from airport, and I think it's about 30 min from base? And I don't want her to worry, want her to study!!!!! Dunesmom...will do...staying thurs thru Sunday last wknd feb....so should get a good feel for it. Hope all of you enjoy your time with your sailors!!! Mine is with her dad in MD by now. Heading out to finish up XMAS shopping...y'all have a great day!!
Ok i got to ask Jackie, how was the price? and it over looked water? ohhh i would like that for sure. Gabbyhat safe travels to your daughter and i hope you got to finish up your shopping. I'm on my way in the morning for those who are here but for Dune i have until April when we go down. He said not to mail anything that we will celebrate when we are all together. Now that is hard for me to do so i will mail a few things his way anyway. He will act all mad but i'm sure he will be smiling. Take care and enjoy your start to the week Everyone.
Yeah Jackie, me 2, me 2....and does your sailor have to reserve it and check u in as well? Dunesmom....u ask all the right questions...lol. And thanks.....got most of the shoppin done...now just have to wrap it all...and I just know your boy will appreciate those packages no matter what he says.....
EEEEEEE!!!! My Sailor just walked in the door!!! Jackie did you know this? Oh he is sooo good at fooling me with I have to work and can't come home talk. I'm just to happy to be upset that's for sure. and the kicker is his Sister knew all about it..oh she is good too. Just had to tell ya all. Good night from one great big Happy Momma
No ribbon well that i could see as it was dark. I'm glad you knew Jackie and oh am i hearing a couple of stories about our two guys. Gattor hunting??? those goofs. to funny. Thanks for the info on the hotel. I will be sending instructions back with Dune when he goes, but not to soon. Gotta hug him up some more. Oh it's soo good to have him here. Hope you all are having a good day too.
Hi ZZs mom and Dunesmom....congratulations to your son Jim...a job well done!
My dtr is on her way back to JAX as I type as well...hopefully classes up soon!!
Safe travels for your sailors dunesmom and gabbyhat. The weather is suppose to get cold starting monday night. Suppose to be 30 at night and only 50 in the day. I might have to turn on the heat.
Just got my call that Dune made it back, guess he was there Sunday night so had to give him the "but i worried this whole time and you should call your mother so i know your not broken down or in the ditch someplace" speach... all i got was i love you gotta go. turd, some things never change he is soooooo independent.
Now that sounds pretty chilly for the south i think.. wonder if they have longjohns for our sailors
Ok Moms out there. What can my girl cook with/on in her barracks? I know there is a microwave. Can they have a crockpot? Small George Foreman? Quesadilla type grill? The girl is already sick of the chow and eating out is so unhealthy. On top of that cooking for one is so difficult...suggestions please...anyone!
ZZsmom- I wish I could help but my son doesn't live in the barracks. They should have given her a list of stuff she can and cannot have in her room. I know at Corry and NAS they could not have anything with an outside burner. He used an instant hot water heater for tea and coffee and a ninja blender in his room. But you really can't cook with those. I don't know what my other son has but he is in Japan and just got there.
My husband lived in the barracks here on NAS JAX for a year before we got married. He had a griddle but he said your not supposed to and they are pretty strict about it and you can get caught with it during a room inspection. The do have another galley though in the hospital, it's the only one I've ever been to and I like it. From the people I've talked to who have ate at both they like the convenience of the main galley but the variety of the hospital galley. Does she have a car? The USO hosts a "no dough" dinner once a pay period at NS mayport, the other base in town. Also on base there is the Budweiser Brewhouse/the zone (904-542-3900), it's a restraunt/ bar with wifi, they have a good variety of foods and daily deals, they also host activity nights like poker, karoke (sp?). You can eat in, pick up or they have delivery monday-friday. Also there is Mulligans inside of the golf club house, a place most don't think of but they have good sandwiches and such. I also enjoy the Chinese restraunt - New China (904-779-5588) which is right next to target off base(they don't deliver), tell her to try the H11 Four Season (My fav). I hope this helps some, my hubby just returned from deployment and even though I had a fully equiped kitchen I still hated cooking for just me.
intresting info. what i have to offer is that Dune will not eat in the chow hall, said it has bad reviews so he cooks in the shared kitchen. send your daughter over there and he will cook steak and fish for her.
Kylynn. She doesn't have her car right now but we are taking it to her this next weekend. I am excited to survey the area w her and hopefully get her to steput of her box. Any suggestions what we should do in the day and a half I will be there?
Dunrsmom. Where is the shared kitchen?
not sure where he lives on base but he is in vp30 if that helps It's like the dorms in college where everyone can use the oven/stove. I seen on tv today that there is a good seafood place in Mayport called Singletons to try.
My daughter is VP30 also. She said the room they have her in are only temporary while she still classified as a student for a week and half. But they did tell her yesterday that they are repainting the "permanent " housing so she may actually stay where she is 4-6 weeks.
How much are they allowed to make their space their own?
Hi Dunesmom and ZZsmom...my dtr is also in VP30...has lived in barracks there since mid Oct after she finished SERE. She finally classes up first of Feb...dont know bout the shared kitchen though have heard her mention it once or twice...she usu has Lean Cuisines, salads, yogurt and the like...dont think you can have a George Foreman. I did send her my old Tassimo coffee/tea maker after I got a Keurig for my Bday. As far as making their room their own...she does have her own bed linens and spread...Pcola was much stricter about gear adrift...I'll ask her...
Also, Navymom3...need to ask u a question since u live there...do u know of any small venue on base or near base that one can reserve or rent for small gathering (said dtr just informed me that she and fiance, also Navy, are getting married May 26th of Memorial Day weekend) am very happy, but nothing like short notice...lol! thanks in advance! Paula
Gabby I will have to ask around. We have only been here since february. There are a couple other Navy moms that live here that I can send a message to.
I have to share this it is the view from my son's room in Japan. He said he can see the ships on the right and the galley, nex, other barracks and a mcdonalds. LOL
Gabby I found this site online. There is a lot of places listed on here. And they all have web sites. I know that Orange park is right outside the base. And St Augustine is only 35 miles away. Eagle Harbor is also a real nice area and it is close by.
Gabby- Congrats on your daughters soon to be wedding...how exciting!! There are endless possibilities in Jacksonville. If you're wanting something small and quaint on base theres a high observation point up near the marina that is very pretty, there's also a nice nature walk near the Navy Lodge that pretty and people hold receptions at the Officer's Club and The Zone has a reception hall. There's also the Chapel on base. Since is will be May the weather will be beautiful u might consider a wedding on the beach on NS Mayport, the Navy Lodge is right on the beach there so family could stay right there on location and theres a party hall right next to the Lodge where you can host a reception.
ZZ-hmmm...a day and a half in Jacksonville, FL so many possibilities! What do you and your daughter enjoy to do? Shopping, touristy stuff, senic stuff!? Oh and speaking of seafood - NAS JAX has a little hidden gem, directly across from the street from the base theres a little hole in the wall seafood restraunt that is AMAZING called J.L Trents...definite must go to!! Would recommend the gator tail and the platter for 2 grilled or blackened style(My Fav)!!!! =)
Wow...thank you ladies so much!!! So much to look at....love choices, Will hopefully be talking to her tomorrow...so maybe can get some of this nailed down before too long...she has a little time before she classes up...so now would be he best time to plan...we have relatives coming from so many diff places, coordination is going to be key...am coming to see her for four days the end of February, but feel like that might be too late...thank you navymom3 and kalynn for all the suggestions...:;-).
