A place to come to for Navy Moms & Family Members who find themselves with an emptynest. A place to share our thoughts..comfort each other and give advice.
No baby yet! She gave him his eviction notice but he’s not cooperating. Her mother came on Sunday to be there when he makes his arrival (her first grand).
mariecb - I will be 60 this year and my husband 67. I was a grandma at 32! My sailor and oldest grand, are 18 months apart. My husband started young. We became foster parents when my sailor joined the Navy. I didn’t like the empty nest. Lol my husband agreed to 5 years and 9 years later we are still at it. We take newborn to age 5. Cure have 3 siblings 4, 2, and 1. They’ve been with us over two years now. I love the little ones, but it’s always a rough day for us when they move on, since we are not planning to adopt. But it’s not long before we get another. It’s a bittersweet cycle. But rewarding as well.
Jacob94mom - well I guess the "hurry up and wait" continues lol! C had her appointment yesterday and they told her they are going to induce her early next week. Just waiting for the hospital to tell them what day to show up...
That's so awesome that you foster - such a blessing that you are able to do that.
Still waiting! Yes hurry up and wait continues. The Dr told A that they would put her on the list to be induced next Tuesday if he doesn’t active before then. And yes I said list! It’s first come first serve! Military Dr and hospital.. go figure. Lol
Baby is coming on Tuesday and this is what B&C are doing this weekend! C wanted her dirt for her garden boxes delivered on Monday. Well the MI weather didn't cooperate so it got pushed to Tuesday and then finally delivered yesterday! They spent part of the day moving it to the back yard and her plan is to get it finished up this weekend - and all her veggies planted! They'll finish moving it today and then let the planting begin. I told her this might put her in to labor lol!
We could have a baby today! The went to the hospital about 5 am. They were going to send them back home. But baby’s heart rate dropped for a bit so now they are monitoring him and inducing! Pray for everyone’s safety. And my son he passed out at one of their classes. Lol. Sid’s mom is there just in case.
Safe deliveries to all the babies coming soon! So excited for you all!
Lollie and Pop are awesome names. My husband goes by Pops. :) I wish I would have thought of Lollie although I have a strong sentimental heart for Granny (which is what I go by).
Thanks everyone. Still waiting on Cameron’s appearance! Heart rate is good, so they broke her water, did an epidural and have started pitocin. Progress is slow but steady. Both mom and dad are getting naps in here and there. Mother in law went home to let out the dogs and get some sleep.
Baby Cameron as arrived! Just before Midnight last night. 6 lbs 15 Oz. 20.5 inches. All went fast once she finally got past 5 cm. Mommy and Daddy are great, tired and in love. They haven’t sent me pictures yet, but we did FaceTime once they got to their room. About 2 am.
Jacob94mom - Contratulations! Glad everything went well.
Ours is not going as well....B&C are scheduled for induction tomorrow morning 9am EST. Well, they got a phone call this morning from her Dr's office telling them basically they will be scheduled for a c-section because they are concerned about Oliver being so big. They told the dr's office they know he's going to be big but she wants to keep her induction and continue with V delivery. The Dr's office told her "if you don't have a c-section then we are transferring you to the OB doctor on staff and we won't be delivering your baby".
Who does that to a woman 24 hours from when you are scheduled to go to the hospital? I am so pissed right now that they would do this to them. B&C are holding their ground. C says she knows he's going to be big but everything was ok prior to this for her to deliver naturally. She knows she could end up with a c-section but why not tell her she MUST have it or they won't deliver. She's stressing, he's stressing, I'm stressing.....The goal obviously is to get him here safely but man, this is messed up.....
B’s - I agree with you! That is crazy. I’m sure you can thank all the people who sue dr’s for the switch. But at the last minute, yeah that’s not right. Our little guy is having some issues, he is in the NICU now. His oxygen level keeps going down and his little feet are blue. They put him on 4% oxygen and an antibiotic. They just finished up with an EKG. There’s a little flap on one of the heart valves that sends blood flow to the brain while baby is in utero. When they are born it switches to sending blood to the lungs with the first breaths. It should resolve itself eventually, but has to stay in the NICU until it does. Could be days or weeks. The hospital is letting Mom and Dad stay one more night then they have to go home and come and go. They seem ok for now, but we’ll see what happens when they have to go home without baby tomorrow.
Jacob94mom - that is a lot to take in as new parents and family!! Please keep us posted - sending prayers and positive energy your way too. Take GOOD care...
Thank you Mariecb! B’s. Might I give you something to ponder. I’ve had 3 c-sections the first after 36 hours of labor and got to 1 cm- wasn’t about to do that again. Also, coached my friend through her 10 lb baby delivery. At the last minute baby turned and got stuck. They had to do an emergency c-section. She was put under anesthesia and didn’t get to meet her baby until hours later. And baby had trouble nursing because he was extra sleepy due to the anesthesia. Mind you this was 30 some years ago. With a scheduled section you can have a spinal block and be awake and meet and snuggle baby immediately. just something to think about. Hugs to you all, and keep us posted as well.
Jacob94mom - I am sending prayers that everything clears up quickly for baby Cameron. When B was born (almost 34 years ago) he had a very similar issue with breathing issues and turning blue. He stayed an extra week in the hospital, they did a "partial exchange transfusion" on him and he came home on a heart monitor for 3 months. But in the end everything turned out fine - no surgery needed, diagnosed as "bradycardia" which is a slow heart rate and no problems ever since. I hope that it is something minor for Cameron and he is home soon. It is hard to go home without your baby! Please tell them we are praying for them.
To update on C - her doctor "fired" her. Told her she won't be delivering her baby which was supposed to be TODAY unless she had a Csection. The hospital had her come in yesterday, she met with another doctor who did a full ultrasound and work up - estimated Oliver to be 9lb 6oz 19.1 inches long and YES, she can try for a vaginal delivery. She said that is no reason to "automatically schedule a c-section". Mind you, C is almost 6 feet tall and her original doctor told her she should have no problem delivering a big baby. Don't know why everything changed 24 hours from D day. BUT, problem was/is HER doctor is the doctor on-call at the hospital today so the new doctor (who doesn't actually do deliveries - she's the women's health dr) didn't want there to be issues with C and the Dr today so they moved everything to tomorrow. She will get the Dr on call tomorrow as the delivery doctor but it won't be her Dr who "fired" her. C is so relieved that they are at least letting her start out with a regular delivery rather than just jumping to a Csection. She knows it could be a possibility but it's not just as a "convenience" for the doctor. So she goes in tomorrow morning - 9am for induction. I talked to C multiple times yesterday and she was such a mess, stressing, angry, worried, all sorts of emotions but the final call she was finally feeling good, relieved, even happy about the outcome. So please keep B&C in your prayers tomorrow as we await the delivery of Oliver!
Oh and she has a call into the Veterans Admin to get everything approved with the last minute "Dr change" so keep your fingers crossed they approve that. Shouldn't be an issued since it's still the same hospital but I sure don't want them to have an issue with the bill!
Happy baby day B’s!!! I’m so glad things have worked out. But that still unbelievable! Baby Cameron is off all tubes! Nursing great- he couldn’t before because he couldn’t breath. They want to keep him one more day just to be sure.
Jacob94mom - wonderful news!!!! So happy that he's doing well and glad they are keeping him one more day just to make sure everything is ok. Tomorrow he'll be home - woohoo!
C's induction that was scheduled for 9am (EST) this morning has now been pushed back to 9:30pm tonight! B texted me this morning and said it was "due to a staffing issue at the hospital". At this rate she might just go in to labor on her own!
I appreciate the continued prayers and positive thoughts!
Well they just got a call from the hospital telling them they have nurses there now and to head over! So they are on their way! Gah this is crazy.......
Nothing new on my end. They are waiting for the doctor to come in and check her and decide if they are going to strart pitocin. We only hope he arrives tonight still but I won't be surprised if it's tomorrow....she feels good still so that's a good sign!
Jacob94mom - what's the latest on Cameron? Did they take him home?
No baby yet for us. C is progressing slowly.....She hasn't been there quite 24 hours yet. They came in during the night and wanted to break her water but she and B asked them to hold off on that. She's hoping things will progress on their own. She was getting pitocin throughout the night but then they stopped it for a bit to give her a break and so she could get some rest.

She made it to 5 and they have started the pitocin again! She texted me and said she was feeling alright and "getting prepped for more intense contractions". So let's hope things pick up now that she's at 5cm. Still no pain meds and she's hoping to make it through without - fingers crossed for her sake!
Great news B’s!! And good for her! My step-daughter had 2 of her babies at home with a mid-wife and no meds. It’s definitely doable. Over here cheering her on! Cameron is home! They don’t want us to share pictures with anyone except family as of now. But he’s adorable of course!! I can’t wait to snuggle him next month.
Hi all - still no baby yet! Crazy, right?!? After a long night her water finally broke early this morning. And she did finally consent to the epidural. B said the pain was so bad he finally helped convince her that there was nothing wrong with having it. So she's at 7cm, finally able to rest a little and we are hoping it isn't much longer. They've been at the hospital almost 48 hours now.....I just hope he doesn't decide to wait until his due date tomorrow lol!
Congratulations! They must be exhausted! Hope mom and dad can get some rest. Not much in the hospital I’m sure. My son asked after the first night home how do we get him to sleep at night. Hahaha gave him my best advice, swaddle, sound machine but Dude! He’s not even a week old.
