Usually they can take a week or two of leave after school. My husband had planned on taking leave but at the last second was told his report date was pushed up. Luckily it still gave us enough time to get home, load up, and move. It had something to do with checking in in time to take the advancement exam. Hopefully that doesn't happen to you guys!

@ Engaged ... emergency leave is only for the death or dire illness of a family member. It would be unusual for him to get leave for the birth of a baby, and because you are not married, nearly impossible. I am sorry, but chances are you will have to go through this with the support of other family members. Get video of everything to share with him, and maybe you can skype later.

So I am not sure if this is the place to ask, but I'm going to ask anyways. My sailor is currently in Cali, headed in Virginia. He will very likely have the chance to change jobs and take it. If we are married by that point will I be put on those orders to move with him to that school to train for this new job? If that makes sense?

Most likely no. If his school is long (over 20 weeks) then he will have accompanying orders and will be able to bring a spouse. But if his school is less than 20 weeks, which many are, he won't have you on his orders even if you're married.

@bronco, It will be well over 20 weeks. So I suppose the answer would be yes, unless me not being on his Virginia orders matter. Regardless, our relationship is happy enough to live apart if needed, married or not. However, we would rather not if we didn't have too.

Then yes if you were married before he got his new orders for a single duty station of 20 weeks or more, you'd be on them. The only reason you being on his orders would matter is if you would want the Navy to pay for your move to Virginia.

@bronco14 Thank you. We are both very excited for this possible opportunity.

Question hoping someone can answer. My husband is active duty and we've moved to 3 different states in the past 2.5 years. He still pays ohio tax (where we're from originally) Do I vote absentee for our home state or in our current state? Id much rather vote for my home state because it holds a lot more weight.

My husband is in bootcamp currently. Afterwards he gets shipped to Pensacola FL for his A & C school. I was told by his recruiter within a week or two they will move me down there to be with him. His A school is 6 months and his C school is 3 months. Is this correct? I get worried something will happen where they will not end up moving me :(

I answered up in the Discussions. Yes, but not quite that fast. He has to get permission to live ashore first.

If the A school is over 20 weeks, such as AECF, it qualifies as a PCS move even though it is to a training command. Not every rating going through ATT qualifies, so it depends on what school as both a paid move and an unpaid move are true situations. Also, the orders must specify an accompanied move with dependents.
I can provide the regulation if you want it.

I wonder if there is a brand new policy, or if someone instructing indoc has it wrong? Or worse, is trying to discourage spouses in the area. Either way, up until now, it has been a yes. And yes, if they move household goods, they pay for the dependent travel too.
Anyone who wants to move should have their sailor talk to Personnel/CPC and not the instructors. Ask the person with expertise in pay, and trust me, that is not always the petty officer just senior to them.

Perhaps. The schools are always very strict with them at first. He may get some time off in the evenings, but I do not know how soon they can leave base during the week. He certainly will have to wear his uniform everywhere, and cannot spend the night away from the barracks. Gulfport?

I have been looking for the liberty policies online for the Seabees, but have come up with nothing concrete. All I know is that every school follows the same three phase liberty policy set by the Navy. What I do know for sure, he cannot wear civilian clothes, he will be going to indoc (introduction) during the day, and he will have a curfew, and need liberty buddies. He might not be able to go off base at all during the week, but I cannot conform that specifically for Gulfport. Still, a little time might be better than nothing, so you have to consider what is a priority for you guys.
