Hi, pmgcakes, Are you on the Ballston Spa or Nuke Moms website? Check them out if you're looking for Power School information. My son graduated as a nuke MM from Ballston Spa earlier this year and is now assigned to a sub on the east coast.
Hi Lorraine, Ballston Spa would be great, we live on Long Island in NY, Its so much closer, How did he do in protype? was he assigned to Groton base or did he go to Kings Bay?
pmgcakes, my son is at Groton now. He never told me his grade point in Prototype but he passed his tests as they came up. He really didn't tell me a whole lot about it except that they work in a huge building and it's hard to get someone to sign off on their work (which is key to graduating). Scott has some good coping mechanisms. I think his strategy was that he found another sailor the same shift as him and they helped each other be in the right place at the right time. Good luck to your sailor. The program is intense and they get frustrated at times, but just be a good sounding board and encourage him.
Hey Lorraine, has your son been out on a sub as of yet? Wondering how he liked it if he did? My son is also wanting to go sub but hasn't, as of yet, filled out the paperwork to do so.
Also, for all of you Nuke Moms, we have a Group on Facebook for anybody that would like to join (much easier to use if you are already a facebook user). Just N4M message me with your FB name and I'll send you an invite to join the private group.
Penny, Scott has been out to sea twice but it's been less than a week each time. He talks about it being really close quarters throughout but I think he'll do just fine. Sounds like they will be going out for a much longer time the next time they head out. I'll send you a message with my FB name.
Your Welcome! - I find that I refer to the site alot, always seems to have any/all the answers that I have been looking for. We live at the end of Long Island and hopped on the ferry one day and headed over to Connecticut, The Naval Museam was great! I hope your Son in enjoying Groton. Currently my son is in S. Carolina, studing as MM in the Nuke Field he just started phase 2 and will have another year of school. he is planning on requesting Groton as his home base, fingers crossed that he will get it.
Hi Kelsi - sorry you are having to deal with that. Its shocking to me in this day and age that people can be so ruthless. ignore, ignore ignore, and if necessary call the police.
So sorry, Kelsi, that you are going through that - it does seem that there are people that live every day to harrass others and they just can't see it in themselves. I am praying that you will have some peace from it as I know it is difficult enough being a military girlfriend, much less someone bothing you every time you turn around. I don't know if OPSEC can shed any light on it or not, but it could be worth a try. Also, if she is bothering you on N4Ms, I would think they could block her.
gosh been way to long since i've had a chance to catch up.. our sailor is home 3 more days then off on a flight to toyko then guam.. anyone with someone on USS Frank Cable? i've been spoiled with GL less then 1 1/2 hour away so now he truly is spreading his wings and flying ... my sis said you taught him well how to fly so sit back and watch enjoy his flight.. guess with 3 grown children she knows best..or better then myself at least..
hello, my son just began his 1st deployment, on johncstennis, he is Nuke MM3 graduated prototype from BS in May 2011. anyone else with similar sailor stat? sorry if this sounds like a dating service ad-LOL
adjusting to letting my son live his own life, pictures of Guam are indeed beautiful, enjoying seeing the island from his eyes.. since he's a newbe.. this if first deployment and USS Frank Cable out gives him time to adjust and "learn" things..at least with pix etc and i see his posts his friends now and then (has to get hang of communication or connections (his new i phone sucks in guam)and lap top does't always get wifi... but we'll survie with help from all of you,, thanks again .i know he's hoping to pass tests for MM3 by end of year..
Kris and Jolene, my son is a Nuke MM3 who graduated BS in Janaury. He's on the Miami now. Just got a call this morning from Spain! He's enjoying their layover.
jaymom - congratulations on PIR. Enjoy every minute you get to spend with him. My son is a MM but is in Groton. He will be graduating from A School September 2nd. I will finally get to see him again!! Can't wait.
Hey Kris and Lorraine, I'm in good company. My Nuke MM son is in Power School in GC. Believe he is hoping (at this time) to go up to BS for Prototype but you know...needs of the navy. We'll see...PS graduation is scheduled for 12/2/2011.
My boyfriend leaves for boot camp in 18 days. He is going in as a MM. The way I understand is that he will go to GL for A school. But will he go to C school and where? I know that he signed papers for submarines but when will we know anything?
Wish I could help you, mommie, but I am only familiar with the Nuke MM side of the house. Hopefully there are others here that can shed light on the non-Nuke side.
Penny - the Power School grad was very impressive!!, lots of big wigs, etc - of the three A school, Power School & Prototype this was the only one my sailor attendence at. we are in WI so its a $ trip to the east coast.
Welcome, Star Child. Are you on other groups also? There is a lot of variety on N4M's :-) My son is a nuke MM on a submarine (USS Miami). He is still qualifying on his first deployment right now. I enjoyed hearing from him when they stopped in Spain but haven't heard from him since. He warned me it could be 2-3 months before he could communicate. I send him weekly emails so he knows we're thinking of him.
WOW Lorraine, I know that has to be difficult when you know you can't just pick up the phone or send an email and get one right away in response. Your son must be on a fast attack - is that right?
Yes, Penny, he is on a fast attack. This is his first deployment so he is also busy completing his quals. I'm sure that means he is very busy and that's a good thing!
I hear that for their first year while they are doing quals they get very little sleep and absolutely almost no time for themselves. Feel bad for them actually, as I know it is so hard on those kids.
just checking in to say hi. don't hear much from my son but fb at least lets me know he's still around.. doing training and been on ship/dry dock.. missed his birthday earlier this month but got toskype with him on his birthday so that was good.. he was at bootcamp december so 2nd christmas we;ll miss with him, mom will just have to keep sending boxes and envelopes...
My son is an MM on USS Wasp. My daddy passed away a month ago and my Sailor spoke. He is named after my daddy and he spoke about his name. I was so proud. When he cried I cried. I googled the uss wasp and now I receive alerts. This helps me out a lot since I don't hear from him much. He will send me an email when he get a chance.
StarChild, what kind of alerts do you get? Just wondering if this is another way to keep up on my son's boat.So glad your son could be home for your daddy's service.
I finally had a phone call from my son when they surfaced in Norway. It was the highlight of my week since it had been over 2 months! Now I expect the same or longer before I hear from him again. When I retire in 3 1/2 months I'll have more time to look for information.
Penny, Scott didn't say if he gets much sleep but he sure sounded good when I talked to him. They're young so they probably think little of it most of the time.
Laura, thanks for the Google tip. I tried the Holiday project link and it didn't go anywhere for me. So I clicked on All Groups (above, under the tabs) and it was easy to find. Thanks for letting us know.

My Sailor made advancement to E-4. I am so proud of him. Lorraine-I enjoy receiving the alerts. I often send them to my Sailor since he is not always aware of what is going on top side.
Laura, I got a few Michigan Moms together and we created 80 goodie bags for the Stennis. They've been mailed off in 7 flat rate boxes. Happy Thanksgiving everyone. No sailor home this time but having dinner this evening with our other kids.
As long as we have different pictures, they'll keep us straight :-) I don't meet another Lorraine very often. I do hope your son mentions the goodie bags for Christmas so you cam share their reaction with us. I'd love to be there to see all those boxes brought on board.
This is the first time I have posted anything on here. I thought it was time to say Hi to everyone.. My Sailor is in Groton, CT right now getting ready to start Sub School than doing A School.. He just found out yesterday that he got the kind of machinist mate that he wanted.. He is a MMW or TM (torpedo man).. He is one happy Sailor right now..
Congrats to your son, Pentwater98. My son is an MM3 Nuke sailor based in Groton. We just went to his first homecoming. It was a really neat sight to see the submarine coming in. Hadn't seen our son since February so it was great to see him just before Christmas.
Help!!!!! My daughter just started A school in Great Lakes for MM and she doesn't think she is going to like it. She was talking about quiting and going in un-designated. Is this a good idea? Any moms with daughters as MM that can help me talk her out of quitting?
Her advancement possibilities may be better as an MM instead of undesignated. I think an MM has a number of ways they use their skills. My son is a nuke MM. Here's a link that might be helpful:
I forgot to ask if your daughter tested favorable for other jobs. The Navy is trying to downsize, so going undesignated might mean being let go or not being able to re-enlist.
Thanks Lorraine, She has decided to stick with it. We have a lot of family members that where in the Navy and they all chimed in and told her not to go in un-designated. She did very well on her asvab, she was told in 2 years she can change jobs if she still felt the same way.
