My son arrived in GL 2/18. I got box today.
  • Trudygirl76

My son Eric was sworn in yesterday and made to RTC late last night. We got the I'm here  call at 1 a.m. We are leaving for Great Lakes tomorrow to see his brother at PIR, can't wait to see him on Friday. Boot camp went by faster than I thought and hope it does the same for Eric. Couldn't be prouder to have my two boys serving in the Navy.

  • momma4

Hi .. my son arrived in GL on 2/20.. we got the box yesterday.. looking forward to the packet that comes soon. I am not sure of his division or A school info but anxious for PIR date..   anyone have any words of wisdom..

  • Giselda

Trudygirl76, my son also arrived last night and we received the call around the same time. It's reassuring to know that it went by faster than you thought. I don't know why but I feel so lost right now. I kept thinking today "I wonder what and how's he doing"?
God bless you for having to go through it twice! Congratulations on your other sons PIR!
  • NavyMom93

Giselda, I am constantly wondering what and how he's doing!  I'm hoping it gets better once I get my first letter and phone call, but yes, it is hard to be so out of touch right now!

  • lemonelephant

Arrival and What Happens at the RTC will give you an idea of what happens at the RTC.

  • lemonelephant

If your future Sailor has yet to ship, be sure to check out the discussion, Things to Do in the Last Month before Your Future Sailor Leaves for....

If you have not yet joined Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones), now is a good time to do so (especially if you have a recruit at the RTC) and to begin checking out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) starting with OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile) (some of you have changes that you need to make--at least change 3) and Arrival and What Happens at the RTC.

Any others here who's husband/wives/sons/daughters arrived at BC last night?  My husband called me around 9pm (PST) so wondering if there are any others out there.  I'm excited yet so sad he's gone but I've been chatting with past wives who've been through this before :)

  • Javamelody

I got/ missed two calls today from Waukegan Ill. todAy. My son has only been gone 8 days. Does anyone know if when the recruits call home the calls come from there? And do they get to call so soon. I'm sick to my stomach with worry.
  • Lizzie_Corpsmanwife

Javamelody my friend said that they will be 1-800 number, Chicago, Illinois, private, any number. Just keep your phone next to you cause I missed a call already and I learned that lesson.
  • NavyGF88

I also missed the firts two calls from my bf thats in bc..He called back that same night.Haven't received another call after that..He has been in bc for almost 3 weeks

Did he leave voicemails,If so that's great! Now u can hear his voice any time

  • lemonelephant

Javamelody, there is no set time when calls can come. See Phone Cards and Phone Calls for more on that and for some times you can relax and know that you most likely will not be missing a call.

Graduation Date April 11, Hope to see you guys there
  • Traysea

It's been a week today that my son left for BC. I received his box that was sent home. Now I'm anxiously waiting to receive his address so I can start mailing his letters that I have written. Will I receive the form letter before I actually receive a letter from my son with his address? Missing him tremendously but ALWAYS PROUD!!!!

  • NavyMom93

Traysea, I think that's right. I got my form letter on Saturday, and I have not received a letter yet.

  • NavyGF88

You most likely will get the form letter first. My boyfriend has been in bc for 3 weeks tomorrow, We got his address before the "personal" letters.
  • Lizzie_Corpsmanwife

From what my friend told me it all depends @Traysea. You could get a letter from him then get the form letter or the other way around. My friend did not receive the form letter until a month before his PIR :( others received the form letter and didn't receive mail until a month into basic training.
  • Giselda

I received my "kid in a box" today! I almost missed the Fed Ex man because I was shoveling snow in the back of our house. I think he thought I was crazy because I literally ran to him saying "that's my kid in a box!!!"
  • Lizzie_Corpsmanwife

@Giselda when did your son leave for BC? Maybe my husband and him will be in the same division :)
That's funny abt the kid in a box. I left my FedEx man/woman a more okaying them to leave it on my porch. Hopefully i receive my hubby in a box today :)
  • Giselda

Lizziebear, my son left last Tuesday. I miss him so much it hurts. I know this sounds weird, but when I opened the box, the first thing I did was smell his shirt! Lol!
That would be great if they were in the same division. Hopefully we'll get the form letter soon. I'll keep you posted when I get mine.
  • Lizzie_Corpsmanwife

Giselda, not weird at all. It was funny because yesterday my friend told me the box will have "your husbands dirty draws" and I laughed so hard cause it's funny to get all their stuff in a box. Yes keep me posted and when I get my box I'll post BIG smiles here.
  • Annie72

We got my son's box on Friday, but we're only a few hours away. My daughter threw his clothes in the washer before I got home, otherwise I absolutely would've smelled his shirt. :)

  • Lizzie_Corpsmanwife

Lemonelephant- if he arrived the 26th, do you recommend me joining the PIR 4-25 or wait until May 2nd? I understand it can all change depending on if he passes physical and stuff.
  • lemonelephant

Traysea, yes, you should receive the form letter before you receive an actual letter. The form letter arrives an average of 10 days after the recruit arrived at the RTC and is mailed when the recruit finishes P-Days. The first real letter goes out the Monday after the recruit's second (third for some) Sunday at the RTC. See Arrival and What Happens at the RTC and  Letter Writing & Fun Stuff/Questionnaires to send to your Recruit within Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones). There have been times that form letters were delayed or not sent at all for various reasons, but the norm is "the box" followed by The Form Letter within a week later followed by "real" letters after the next Sunday after the form letter was mailed.

  • lemonelephant

Lizziebear0803, He should be in the 04/25/2014 TG.

  • NavyGF88

    Got 3 letters today :)
  • Lizzie_Corpsmanwife

Lemonelephant- If that is the truth, OH MY GOSH!!!! I'm screaming inside at work lol.

    NavyGF88- CONGRATS!!! Whoo hoo yay

  • lemonelephant

Lizziebear0803, it all depends on when his division formed, but there are few with 10 weeks at this time of year. See Arrival and What Happens at the RTC.

  • lemonelephant

    NavyGF88, that is wonderful!

  • NavyGF88

    Thanks guys!
  • MissMaryE (ship03 DIV147)

    NavyGF88 - that is wonderful!!
  • lemonelephant

I said that there are few with 10 Fridays this time of year, but it does happen. The most common reason is the weather caused too many or not enough to arrive on a particular day and so some had to be held over until others arrived. If your recruit does end up with 10 Fridays, it will mean that s/he is among the first in a new TG and has extra time if anything happens, so don't look at it as a bad thing if it occurs. Yes, there are other reasons that could cause a recruit to be held in P-days longer, but those reasons will most likely need to be between you and your recruit.

The default Privacy Setting on N4M is "Anyone." That means that ANYONE with access to the web has access to everything on your My Page. To change that, make change number 3 at the bottom of OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile), While you are there, read the Page and see if there are other changes you need to make.
