It's not too early to check out the discussion, Things to Do in the Last Month before Your Future Sailor Leaves for..., and to start discussing some of the things there with your future Sailor such as how to handle bad news and who will be put on the Access List....

If you have not yet joined Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones), now is a good time to do so and to begin checking out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) starting with OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile) (some of you have changes that you need to make--at least change 3) and Arrival and What Happens at the RTC.

  • lemonelephant

I have left info on some of your My Pages about your future Sailor's rating (job/specialty) and "A" School. If anyone else needs this info, leave a comment on my My Page with the rating and I will comment back on your My Page.

Our future sailor is leaving 2/24 from St. Louis.  He's been attending DEP meetings and it's been interesting hearing all the information he needs to memorize before he leaves.  He is so excited!  He is going to have an incredible journey ahead of him.

    Good Moring Lady’s

This is a new adventure for me and my family. As time gets closer to my son leaving , things  seem to mean more. He is leaving from St. Louis Feb. 4th.  I am reading everything so I can understand what he is going to be talking about.   I am so happy that there are websites like this to help us get all the information. Happy trails to all.

My future sailor leaves Feb.18th from Minneapolis. We are looking forward to a week away to sunny Florida before he heads out! We are all excited to see what adventures await him! I am starting to have mixed emotions as he looks to leave the nest! If anyone else has a sailor leaving at that time I would love to connect!
  • barbara the artist's mom

I have a son leaving south Florida in 2 weeks. I am very excited for him, the emotions have gotten to me on a few occasions but over all excited and proud. I have to say his recruiting officers for the DEP have been a great source of information for all of us and in mentoring my son. We will miss him, especially my 5 year old grandson, but happy for him at the same time. We will enjoy the 2weeks while finishing any to do lists.

My son leaves Feb 10th...excited and nervous at the same time

  • Stevensmom

I have a question, so our son leaves Thursday February 26th. Wondering when PIR will be. Is it always on a Saturday? Is there a reason why it would be 8 pr9 weeks. Trying to figure out when PIR may be...
  • lemonelephant

Stevensmom, PIR is almost always on Friday. It is NEVER on Saturday. By counting 9 Fridays, his PIR date is most likely 04/24/2015, but know that it could be the week before (less likely for one arriving at the end of the week as he will) or the week after (possible for one arriving at the end of the week if he is placed in a division for the next week's TG. You will have to wait on The Form Letter to know for sure. See Arrival and What Happens at the RTC within Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) for more on that and more.

  • lemonelephant

Every recruit has 6 actual weeks of training, which begin after the processing days (P-days) are over. There are 4 P-days, but some recruits will have additional days in P-HOLD if there are not enough recruits to fill the division. Some recruits may be at the RTC as few as 7 weeks (they would be in a Push Division) and some could be at the RTC as long as 10 weeks. The average time that a recruit is at the RTC when there are no problems is 8 1/2 weeks (9 Fridays). Arrival and What Happens at the RTC explains that.

  • lemonelephant

I have left info on some of your My Pages about your future Sailor's rating (job/specialty) and "A" School. If anyone else needs this info, leave a comment on my My Page with the rating or field and I will comment back on your My Page. I also have info on the PACT programs if your future Sailor has a contract for one of those.

  • DebP

So if my son leaves for basic on 2/18 Wednesday is it more then likely his PIR will be 4/10 or 4/17? Just curious.
  • suddenlypam

My son is leaving from Seattle on February 10, 2015. The date is approaching fast...focusing on throwing a going away party and keeping my mind busy. So anxious!

  • Tonya

My son leaves on the 10th also. I think I am more anxious than he is or maybe he just doesn't show it like I do.

  • momsports

My son is leaving on the 18th as well from Los Angeles, I am very excited and nervous all at the same time. However my son acts like no big deal and doesnt like to even talk to me about any of it. He says he doesnt want me to that Mom. Is any one elses kid the same way. It hard to get any information from him. I am trying to let some control go but this is really hard... i heard the PIR maybe 04/17 or 04/24

  • Chkimbr

Momsports. My son leaves the 9th and he's exactly the same. Everyone is starting their good-byes. It's so hard to watch and stay supportive. We will be having a party which I'm sure will kill me. Praying it all goes well for us all.
  • MilitaryMom

Did anyone see that toyota superbowl ad where the dad drops his daughter off at the airport? With only a week to go-that was a killer!
  • Radiogirl

Yes I saw the Toyota commercial where the dad drops his daughter off.  My son was sitting next to me and I thought oh please why did they have to show that commercial...he leaves on the 5th.  It was all I could do not start crying.
