My son doesn't leave until next week but with your son leaving late in the week and mine leaving early the next they could end up in the same unit. Who knows. My son will be headed to GC as well. Here we go Radiogirl ;)

  • numner

My son was supposed to leave for boot camp from MN on Feb 5th but got a call this morning because of bad weather he will leave tomorrow instead. It is just one day sooner but its tough to have change plans, juggle schedules, and lose a day.

  • Bean

My son's leave date was changed from 2/10 to 2/23.  Does anyone else have a son/daughter leaving that date?

  • Navyvetwife48

My daughter has passed through the MEPs processing, yesterday and is off too boot camp today leaving from the airport in Jax Florida, she is happy and good spirits, which gives me reassurance that she knows what she is expecting when she gets there, and that helps me to accept it.

  • Radiogirl

Anchors away!  My son left for boot camp today.  Bittersweet moment, but he was excited, but nervous. I was so proud to watch him swear in at MEPS.  A very proud moment!  I will feel relieved when I get the "I'm here" phone call.  Then I will know he's safely at boot camp.  Here we go!

My daughter will be leaving for Chicago, Il. on Tuesday, Feb. 10th. She goes to New Orleans on Monday, Feb. 9th. I am getting more emotional as the time is drawing closer. More concerned for my granddaughter who is 4 years old.

If your future Sailor has yet to ship, be sure to check out the discussion, Things to Do in the Last Month before Your Future Sailor Leaves for....

If you have not yet joined Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones), now is a good time to do so (especially if you have a recruit at the RTC) and to begin checking out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) starting with OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile) (some of you have changes that you need to make--at least change 3; make change 4 if your profile pic includes your future Sailor or recruit) and then Arrival and What Happens at the RTC.

My son left for bootcamp on Tuesday of this week. I am so proud of him and the others I got to know a little while seeing my son off. I got 'the call' around 1 am Wednesday and that put my mind at test long enough to get some sleep. Like others, my emotions have been very close to the surface all week long. I wonder how he is doing. He was very excited to be starting his new navy life but also had some concerns about the yelling. I wonder if it is getting any easier yet. I am anxiously awaiting the box and can't wait to get the letter so I can write back to him and make my plans to be at PIR in April.
  • lemonelephant

Marie, I left info on your My Page. There is info in Arrival and What Happens at the RTC that will help you to know what is happening and what to expect.

  • Caroline

I posted a picture of some sailors who left out of Tampa on 2/3. Check my wall.
  • Marie

Hi onpoint and Caroline. I think I may have met your daughter Caroline. I'm new at this and don't know how to see pictures on your wall. I went to the airport in Tampa work my son.....wish I had thought to take pictures....they were all having a great time and were very excited waiting for their flight.
  • Sunshine

My husband left for bc Feb 4, from the San Diego area.
  • lesley

Caroline,My Daughter leaves tomorrow for Jacksonville, then flys to GL on Tues, how did you get the photo of them sitting on the plane?Did she send you a selfie?

  • Caroline

My daughter still had her phone and sent them to me. I didn't go to the airport. They look like they are all in good spirits!
  • Caroline

This is my second go round with RTC in less than a year. My son had PIR in September and is now in Greece. Learned a bit along the journey.
  • Marie

Thank you all for helping me navigate the site. The pictures are great Caroline! I did go to the airport and so sorry I didn't take a group picture....I tried to stay in the background as I was the only mom there and so grateful my son wasn't too embarrassed to have me there. I left as they were lining up to board and they all were in terrific spirits and enjoying the trip!
I put a couple of additional pictures on my page from the swearing in ceremony in Tampa on feb 3rd in case another parent wants to see them.
  • Marie

My son will be a sea bee and going to Pt. HUENEME CA after bc for A school. Any other mom's with a loved one going that route?

  • Marie

Leslie, my baby boy and I walked in your shoes last week. He also was sure this is what he wanted to do and very excited. How can we be anything other than so proud of them. I so appreciate all of our children for their choices and trust the Navy and their careers are everything they hope for.
  • lesley

Just got THE BOX! My son left last Tuesday
  • suz9296

My baby left last Tuesday, 2/3, and this has been harder than I thought.  She has left before, off to college, but not being able to pick up the phone and say hello has been really tough.  When I received my 45 second call when she arrived, she sounded in such great spirits so that was nice but now I'm dying for another call.  I know it will be a few weeks so I have been writing letters every other day.  What an experience this has been and it has only been a week  :)  I'm so anxious to get the box and then the "form letter" in a few weeks!!!  This site has helped some, just reading what others are going through as well.  Thank you all for sharing your stories.  God bless you all!!!!

Today my son was sworn in. Very proud and sad to see and leave him as he was getting on the van for the airport knowing its not a few days for vacation, but I am also very excited for him.
  • Chkimbr

My son left today. Can't believe this is really happening. Praying this gets easier and God gives him the strength he needs. Ready for PIR!!
  • numner

I got "The Box" today. My son arrived at RTC on Wednesday 2/4. =)

  • barbara the artist's mom

I want to thank this site and officers at the recruiting office for so much heads up on information for my son and our family. Just got my 1 call and that was the hardest part of all this.
  • tori'smom

It's been one week today since my daughter left.  Hardest week to get through, but I keep thinking positive thoughts...   Box arrived a few days ago and the form letter any day now!  Getting closer and closer to some form of contact with my girl!  Hope everyone is hanging in there! :)

  • Jenn89

Hello,  My daughter (18 years old) also left last week, very hard week with no contact except for the arrival phone call.  Everyday I go to call or text her, and then I remember...  Then her grandma passed away Sunday, and there is no way of letting her know, and now that I think about it, I won't be informing her of this until after boot camp, I don't want to add stress to her.
I'm still getting use to this site, great communication!

  • Anna

My condolences Jengib89.  I lost my mom last April, ironically I think the day that is slotted for my SR graduation!  They have an Angel whispering in their ear ;-) Getting them through!

I'll be keeping you in my prayers.

  • tori'smom

Jengib89-  I am so sorry for your loss! what an emotional time for you and your family.. Stay strong and soon enough she will be in your arms again!  I feel the same way about unconsciously picking up the phone to reach out- hard to stop.  I even went to her facebook page out of habit... Soon enough our girls will be back- stronger, and more grown up than the day they left... :)

  • Jenn89

Thank you for all your kind words...

  • lemonelephant

Jengib89, I'm so sorry for your loss. You and your family are in my prayers. Since you have decided not to share the news of her grandmother's passing until after PIR, have you let others who will be writing her or who she would call also know not to share? If there is a chance that someone will tell her, then contact the Red Cross and they will get the message to her and she will have support when receiving the message.

(((((Jengib89))))) that's a cyber hug from one Navy Mom to another.

  • Jenn89

Thank you for the advice, I didn't even think about that. I will let others know...

  • CRLEsmom

My baby boy left yesterday from Fort Lee.  Their flight was cancelled but they caught a new one.  Received the scripted call at 1am.  He sounded tired but excited a the same time.  Now we wait.

  • sport11

My daughter arrived last night at 11:00. My son-n-law got the 2 minute call. It was 12:00 Georgia time.

  • Tonya

Lesley, it was a pleasure meeting you and your family.  I am so glad your Sam is a good communicator!  Austin called to let us know he had arrived but gave no other information.  Can we keep in touch?  Please feel free to friend my on FB if you have one.  Tonya Simpson Ashley. I hope you are doing okay today.  I was so heartbroken for you when your daughter left.  Watching you stand by that bus, I could just tell how much you two love each other and I know you must have a great relationship :)

  • suddenlypam

My son arrived to Great Lakes shortly before midnight last night. I was getting texts throughout the day of his travel from Seattle and received a call when they touched down in Chicago and then the scripted call from GL. He said the other kids were friendly and talkative and he seemed relieved at that...reminded him everyone is in the same boat. After a long weekend of good-bye parties, nervous stomach, he was  glad things were finally happening, although very bittersweet. I can't wait to get that form letter so I can start writing letters!

  • Lita

One year ago today my son left for GL. To all of you whose loved one are starting the journey, I send my love and hugs. It is a difficult time, but after boot camp it gets easier. Write to your soon to be sailor. Do what you need to do to get to the graduation in a few weeks. And stay connected to n4m.... It is the best way to survive. Best wishes, m
  • lesley
