Amy, She left yesterday and had a 2.0 hour layover.  by the time she got on the plane to depart, they were having computer issues and had to all get off the plane and on another one.  about an 1.5 later they left.  She got in and made the call 2:00 a.m. Chicago Time

  • NavyMom93

RockyRoad, your letter will come separately.  Mine came ten days after my son left, and I got the box first.

  • lemonelephant

Sabrina, your recruit will not be able to write until the second Sunday she is there at the earliest. See Letter Writing & Fun Stuff/Questionnaires to send to your Recruit. That phne call i8n about 3 weeks can be before or after that. See Phone Cards and Phone Calls. See also Arrival and What Happens at the RTC to know what is happening and what to expect.

I just want to say, Thank you all.  I am so happy to be apart of this network because my sailor has been gone to BC since 2/6/15.  If it wasn't for all the comments everyone has been posting up, I would've never posted a comment and felt all alone. I finally gathered the strength to talk about him.  This is the first time we have been apart.  We do not have children, so much respect to the wives with children.  Honestly I respect each and everyone here for being so strong and supportive.  I received a phone call from my sailor because he was one of the sailors to have shined their boots the best!  I am so proud of him and miss him so much! Graduation is 4/3/15.  Can't wait!

  • navyMom1

Recd my sons form letter today!!!! He left on Feb 10th.
  • AOWife825

My girlfriend just got into RTC. Her mom missed the phone call by seconds. We were expecting it to be later. But she left a voice saying she got there safely. I was at MEPS with her pretty much all day till they left for the airport. It's so strange not being with her or on the phone with her 25/8 (as our friends and family say). I know eventually the tears will stop. But I missing my better half. Hopefully it gets easier soon!
  • DebP

My son left  yesterday Feb.18th, Got the call last night! Says he will call in about 3 weeks! Yikes.. So excited for him! I can't imagine. I will post as soon as I know what ship he is in.

  • Sabrina

Lemonelephant, thanks for updating me on the letter.  I know she's in good hands, so I'm not too worried.  I'll get a letter soon enough from that soon to be Sailor!  :-D  So excited for her

  • scrappyjax

That's about how my son sounded this morning. I've been fighting tears all day.

  • scrappyjax

    @krissi- No idea yet.

  • nurse and mom of a navy sailor

My son left 2 days ago on the 17th......it has been such a struggle not being able to talk to him on a daily basis. I am hoping this will get easier and I understand the reasons behind it, but it still does not make it any easier. I waited up to get the "I have arrived" call, it didn't come until 11:15pm my time so 1:15am Great Lakes time. I really have no idea what they do the first few days of boot camp and it is so hard not knowing. I was really glad I found this group to be able to talk to others going through the same thing.

If your future Sailor has yet to ship, be sure to check out the discussion, Things to Do in the Last Month before Your Future Sailor Leaves for....

If you have not yet joined Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones), now is a good time to do so (especially if you have a recruit at the RTC) and to begin checking out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) starting with OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile) (some of you have changes that you need to make--at least change 3; make change 4 if your profile pic includes your future Sailor or recruit) and then Arrival and What Happens at the RTC.

  • lemonelephant

If you have a recruit in Division 139 or 140, what ship is your recruit on? Thanks

  • lesley

    Ship 3 is Division 139 and 140

  • lemonelephant

    Thanks.

  • DebP

    Division 145 ship 4 PIR 4/17/15

I would love to connect if we have loved ones in the same division.

  • nurse and mom of a navy sailor

Awesome, I will post as soon as I know my sons division since he left on the 17th

  • nurse and mom of a navy sailor

How did you already get his PIR date? I figured my sons would be 4/17 if you count the Friday's but havent heard for sure

  • nurse and mom of a navy sailor

mer1166 how long ago did he leave?

  • lemonelephant

DebP, that's great to know, but wait on the form letter before sending letters.

  • lemonelephant

Reasons to wait on The Form Letter:

    1. The PAO at the RTC asks that loved ones wait on the form letter before mailing letters. See http://www.bootcamp.navy.mil/fam_guide.asp.

    2. The recruiter does not always give the right address and letters that do not have the correct address may be returned or may be delayed several weeks in getting to your recruit since it will not be a high priority for those in the mail room to look up the correct information.

    3. Even if you do have the correct information, your recruit will not receive letters that are mailed before receiving the form letter much quicker, if at all, than letters mailed after receiving the form letter because recruits do not receive mail until they are in their permanent ship and a Recruit Mail Petty Officer is trained. The first Mail Call is on day 1-3 or 1-4 DOT.

    ***

Note: If it has been at least 2 calendar weeks since your recruit arrived at the RTC and you do not have a form letter, then you can call the recruiter and get the address and mail letters to your recruit, but be sure to double-check the address against those at http://bootcamp.navy.mil/contact_recruit.asp or Ship/Division--How it Works.

nurse of a navy sailor I stopped at the recruiter on Friday and they were able to pull up the information. They also had the PIR listed for that division and ship. Hope that helps! I sent you a friend request. Hope our sailors are together!

  • DebP

    appreciate the information lemonelephant!

  • nurse and mom of a navy sailor

DebP that would be amazing if our sons were together! I have emersed myself in reading about everything Navy. This website is amazing for people to come together. It has so much good information on it! I also cannot wait until I get a phone call or letter! I am also a little bit bummed, his birthday is on 2/24..this is the very first one that we will not be together for. I guess it will now be the first of many!! I am so proud of him though

  • Stevensmom

Our son leaves Wednesday for MEPS in Albany and ships out Thursday for Great Lakes. We had his anchors aweigh party yesterday with his close friends and family. We had chips ahoy cookies and lifesaver candies for our sailor, cheese platter arranged in the shape of an anchor, cake with edible navy emblem, red licorice, white chocolate pretzels, blue M&M's, then gave everyone a blue candle in a gold bag along with the candle open and the navy prayer. All thos ideas I got from this website!
It's hard to believe that the time is here already. When we first got his date it seemed so far away, now it's just days. Funny how at the same time you can be so happy, proud, and actually comforted that he will be somewhere safe, at the same time so worried and frightened, and that it will be scarry!

My son left today from St. Louis, MO.  It surprised me that he was a little teary eyed too.  Now the wait for letters and graduation.  I am so very proud of him!

  • nurse and mom of a navy sailor

So I have been stalking the facebook website for the bootcamp ever since my son left last Tuesday....well today it paid off. There were actually 5 pictures of him on there! I am so excited! It was exactly what I needed right now.

  • nurse and mom of a navy sailor

It is U.S Navy Recruit Training Command

  • michaelsmom

My son left from Sacramento today for boot camp. I have been crying for the past 2 days.

  • Lori

I'm looking for pictures of new recruits who have been there for almost a week.  I see pictures that everyone else posts, but not of our servicemen.  Where would I find this

  • lemonelephant

Check out https://www.facebook.com/NavyRecruitTrainingCommand. The PAO posts random photos randomly and posted some today. They don't post the division numbers most of the time, so you have to check each photo.

  • momsports

It sure is exciting looking for your SR. I didnt see mine. But was so nice to see other parents so happy to see theirs. Plus to see how they eat, sleep etc.

  • Lori

I didn't see mine either, but looking at those pictures were awesome. I will keep looking. I did receive his box back with his clothes and cell phone. So, I'm waiting to hear from him. When do you think I'll get his address?
  • nurse and mom of a navy sailor

I received my form letter exactly 1 week from when he left.

  • nurse and mom of a navy sailor

  • momsports

My son who flew out on 02/18, we received the box today. Now I am excited for letter so I can start to mail letters...

  • AOWife825
