Stevensmom, the Ramada gets mixed reviews and you will want to go to Sarge's Meet and Greet. There is no overnight Liberty authorized PIR weekend and especially not since your then Sailor will be flying out. See PIR Day and Liberty During PIR Weekend to help you know how to plan your weekend.

  • lemonelephant

I have left info on some of your My Pages about your recruit's rating (job/specialty) and "A" School. If anyone else needs this info, leave a comment on my My Page with the rating and I will comment back on your My Page. I also have that info for the PACT programs.

Everyone, take time to read http://navylive.dodlive.mil/2015/03/23/4-things-to-know-about-opsec.... You may have some changes to make to your N4M profile, so also read OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile).

  • lemonelephant

It's not too early to check out the discussion, Things to Do in the Last Month before Your Future Sailor Leaves for..., and to start discussing some of the things there with your future Sailor such as how to handle bad news and who will be put on the Access List....

If you have not yet joined Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones), now is a good time to do so and to begin checking out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) starting with OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile) (some of you have changes that you need to make--at least change 3; make change 4 if your profile pic includes your future Sailor) and then go on to  Arrival and What Happens at the RTC.

My Navy moms, let's light up the site with good wishes for Christmas. I start!! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you all.. Thanks for all your support throughout my Sailor's Naval career.
  • TrueLady

Mine leaves February 16, 2016...counting down, all while being sad, anxious, and nervous

If you have a future Sailor who is going to be in an 800 division, let me know in a comment on my My Page or in a PM (or comment in a friend request) and I will connect you with others with loved ones who will later be in the same division. DON'T openly post your future Sailor's contract or division number. Those with a future Sailor (or recruit) in a regular division or 900 division can post the division number and can post the contracted rating or field unless it is for one of the Spook ratings, but those with a loved one with a special ops contract should NEVER post that openly. See OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile) and 800 and 900 Divisions.

  • 4leafclover

Wow, just one month 'til my future sailor leaves.  Time is getting close... I'm scared about what the future holds, too, TrueLady, but trying to be strong and proud - this is going to be a grand adventure!

My daughter is leaving on Feb 2nd. She is my first born and it's becoming a bitter sweet. I am excited and proud of her.

My daughter left last February, It was hard, BUT we got through it!!!  As will all of you :)

Please Please Please have your future sailor write phone numbers and addresses on a small piece of paper!!  A lot of Kids don't have that stuff memorized.....and when it comes to that first phone call they won't be able to call because they don't know the number!!!

  • lemonelephant

ProudPickle, thanks for coming back and sharing.

  • ProudNukeMom

My son is leaving on February 17 for boot camp. I am feeling clueless on how to prepare.
  • Angel guzman

My son is leaving Feb.3 for boot camp and I am having such a hard time dealing with him leaving me, and the fact that he will be so far.
  • 4leafclover

My recruit ships out February 8, and it is very hard having these changes looming so close.  It really helps to know that so many have gone through this before, both sailors and moms, and have had the same feelings that we are now.  Thank you, ProudPickle, for your support, and all of the other lovely ladies and gents that take the time to give advice and support and hugs when needed.

  • Carrie

My son is leaving Febuary 15. To Chicago. I am really excited. He's ready to go and looks forward to this. He's been at college for a few years so used to away from home. He's coming from San Antonio.
  • Tracysmom

My son leaves Feb 18 to go to chicago.I am a little overwhelmed with all the stuff I need to know.
  • lemonelephant

Tracysmom, we're here for you. Check the links I gave you on your My Page. The most important thing right now is enjoying time with your future Sailor while he is there and not missing him before he leaves (well, after fixing a few things I left for you on your My Page). Things to Do in the Last Month before Your Future Sailor Leaves for... will let you and your future Sailor know how to prepare.

  • meadechef

Hey, our son is leaving for boot camp on Feb 9, I am happy for him but feel so lost. It feels a lot different than my husband getting ready and leaving for a 6 nth cruise. But than was over 22 years ago. So any help from other moms who son will be also leaving the same time will help to talk. Thanks in advance.
  • indytina

Our son leaves for boot camp on Feb 17. Time is going fast!
  • CryptoDad

What's really overwhelming is the stuff our kids need to know. Has your Future Sailor completed the DEP PQS? Ask how its coming along.

  • My'sMom

My son leaves Feb 8.  He's an only child... I have mixed emotions.  I am excited for him and afraid as well.

  • meadechef

Welcome My'sMom, you can send friend requests to others moms who child will be leaving in Feb. Our son is also leaving on Feb 9.
  • Jennifer

My son leaves Feb 16....so proud...so sad...and def overwhelmed.

  • Carrie

My son is leaving the 15th for Chicago. He hasn't lived at home for a couple of years due to college but I find the idea of not being able to talk with him hard.
  • AMOm :-)

My daughter is leaving next Tuesday for MEPS and flying to Great Lakes on Wednesday. So for all you February mom's, I am taking this one for the team first. She is my oldest and only girl. We have been through so much together that this is really hard for me. I have not let her see me break down. She has been running, swimming, and packing her room up. She just turned 18 in December and my anxiety is through the roof. We are having a going away Open House Saturday for friends and family to stop by and get their last hug.

  • Blondefaith

We are on the west side of Indy. My son has a ship date of 2/15. He is fiercely independent and very much leaving me out of the loop but I am supporting him the best I can and trying to help him prepare. I have mixed emotions. I was weak and broke down when he told me he was leaving sooner than the original date ( his choice) but since then I have gained some composure and have a clearer understanding that this was solely his choice. I am proud he has made some an important decision for his life!

I would really like to connect with other local Moms.

Hello, I'm new to the group and haven't posted yet because we've been super busy getting our kiddo ready for BC.  He is leaving for MEPS on Monday and to GL on Tuesday.  My question is, we were told that he needed to bring his SS card with him when he goes.  I have some concerns about him carrying his SS card with him, we normally keep our in the safe.  They took copies of his Birth Cert, diploma, and SS card when he joined, why would he need to bring his card now?

  • lemonelephant

Kara, he needs his original SS card. See 1b. of Things to Do in the Last Month before Your Future Sailor Leaves for....
