Feeling much better today!  His is on (in?) ship 12, Division 224.  Anybody else??? Like you, navymommo, I just keep thinking he is going to be too busy to be missing anyone!  Just think of all the new, interesting and exciting things these recruits are experiencing!

  • Willsmom

Someone told me that if you go to the RTC facebook page they post (by division) daily photos of training and you may get a glimpse of your recruit!

  • Willsmom

okay, so I just went to that fb page and apparently they don't have div 224, ship 12 set up yet.  Or, maybe I am just not technically astute enough to figure it out!

If you do, please enlighten me!

Found the RTC facebook page but then what do you do to find pictures or even different divisions??? help

    LindaB --

I bought a card for my son before he left -- but never gave it to him.  Decided it was too girly.  But it has given me an interesting way to look at him being gone.

It's got a picture of a little kid on the front covering their eyes.  It says -- I'm not good at good-byes, so let's just pretned we're playing hide-and-seek ... and you're going to be real hard to find.

Last week was really difficult for me, but after we received the box and letter, I felt better.  Now it's easier to live by the motto -- no news is good news.

Hang in there.  It WILL get better.

  • Lisa

My son arrived in GL on 5-12 and we got our phone call that night at 10:30 CA time. Today he celebrates his 19th Birthday...I'm feeling it today! Now we wait for the box..

    Lisa --

It's tough when they're gone for milestones.  Mine was gone for Mother's Day.  Some of the recruits that left the same time as mine got calls home that day.  Mine didn't call -- maybe he called his girlfriend.

Hang in there.  Don't be too hard on yourself.  Do something that will make you feel good.

  • xmasgina

My son's last weekend home. :( It's sad to think that this is the "last" for so many things.. but also the beginning of many "firsts" for him. We will all miss him. Going out to a family brunch tomorrow and then he's finishing packing his A school box.
  • MNSunshine

Wow xmas, it sounds like you have it all together.  It will go fine.  Enjoy the time together.  It's interesting to hear everyone's stories.  My son lived with his dad for the 9 months before he left.  His way of dealing with the upcoming event -- I think -- was to not think about it.  When his recruiter called him in 4 hours early he was lost.  He hadn't thought about bringing anything, hadn't packed anything for A School and hadn't even picked up his room.  Oh well, it all works out.
  • Willsmom

Will arrived in Chicago Thursday night, but still no phone call!  I did get a letter from him today, though!!!  He had mailed it from the New Orleans airport right before his flight left!  Sure made me feel good!
  • MNSunshine

    Willsmom --

What a thoughtful and organized son you have!

  • MNSunshine

    LindaB --

My son didn't even think ahead for Boot Camp.  He's been living at his dad's so getting his things together will be a challenge.  I'll have to wade through TWO messy rooms.  UGH!

  • CArol

Same here....mine leaves Monday, and says he's going to clean up his two rooms tomorrow. lol
  • xmasgina

Haha.. well mine had good intentions but so far he has only removed a garbage from his room and says, 'Wow.. I have a lot more space in my room now". sigh.. I told him that if he doesn't put what he wants in a box for A school he's only going to get what his brother doesn't confiscate. :)
  • Willsmom

CTmomof3-His recruiter called me with his address which has his ship and division number.

  • MNSunshine

CT -- What ship/div?  Did you get a PIR date?
  • waybigsmil

My son left May 11.  I can not wait to receive the letter with his address...hoping then I will feel a little connected.
  • MNSunshine

    Waybigsmil --

I received the box one day and the form letter the next.  I feel way more connected now!  Must be psychological ... weird.

  • Willsmom

Ship 12/Division 224     No PIR date yet

I just can't wait to hear his voice...I miss him so much.

  • xmasgina

Well, it's starting to hit home now. Went out for  Sunday brunch together.. he's playing video games with his brother and his girlfriend. He keeps saying, " This is the last time I'm going to .... " It's sad. :( It's nice to have a group with people all going through the same thing. Tomorrow his recruiter is getting him around 1 and taking him to Niagara Falls.. he'll leave tomorrow for GL.

  • mominva

Son left on Monday afternoon, bc on Tuesday eve.Cannot believe how much I miss him! Can't wait to get a letter or phone call.
  • Willsmom

When are they supposed to get that phone call, anyway???  My son has been there since Thursday...still no call.

  • xmasgina

I was just watching the boot camp video.. and it looks like they do their phone call when they arrive at GL. Does it vary, I wonder?

  • corpsmanwifeschu

@Xmas and @Willsmom, I still have yet to receive a phone call from my hubby and he arrived May 5. The box came Tuesday May 10, still waiting on the form letter.
  • CTmomof3

It seems some call when they arrive and some don't. No idea why that is. Did your SRs have their cell phone or a calling card on them? If not that could be why.
  • mominva

My son had his phone, so made his last call on that. I also gave him a calling card so that he could use that once the phone was given up. Looking forward to the first letter.
  • NYRican924

Hi all. My son left for GL on Thursday, May 12th. Got the call that night at 11:55. Lucky for me I sleep with my cell phone and answered. I don't have an address yet so I will call his recruiter tomorrow and see if he has it. I've been writing but don't have an address to send it to. Oh well, better get used to the wait. I'm glad for this group :)
  • lucyloves...herSailor!

Sailorwife: sorry you haven't received your call....hopeful that I can get my son's address from recruiter tomorrow!
  • Noelle NNPTC 1143 T

Hi Everyone! My sr left for bc on May 11. I did get a very short call from him that evening but he had his cell. Im still waiting for "the box" and a letter with his division. Trying to be patient so I can address these letters :)
  • corpsmanwifeschu

Had a cell phone and a calling card...the box came with HIS cell number on it, not mine. "No news is good news."
  • mominva

Has anyone heard that the Navy posts pics of boot camp on facebook? I went to the RTC facebook page and for the life of me couldn't find a place where that could happen?? Anyone know about this? Sure would be great just to see a picture, even if he's not in it. Bet a lot of our boys are together!
  • mominva

marlowmom ~ did the same thing yesterday with my son's room. Made me sad to be in there, but also thought how boot camp/the navy will help with the neatness.
  • corpsmanwifeschu

@mominva you can find the pictures by clicking on the Photos link on the side. There are a lot of albums in there, lately the "daily" photos have been under albums that start with "Random Photos" of that day.

Make sure you are on the right page.

Thanks for sharing the FB link and photos tab info...I went directly to the site. My son arrived in GL on May 12th so didn't see any of him...yet. It's comforting to see the photos though.  I'll probably be compulsively checking that site now for a possible glimpse of him, LOL.

  • mominva

Ok, I don't consider myself technologically ignorant, however, I am having trouble with the facebook site. I went to Recruiting Training Command, and there were no options on the side for photos. Am I at the wrong place?
  • Lisa

    Mominva
I followed SailorWifeShip3's link and found the page. On far left column is the RTC logo, beneath that (photos) was the 3rd option down. Hope that helps.
  • CTmomof3

FYI, the letter came today. Another July 1st group.  That PIR will be so packed.

Went to trader Joe's. I didn't know how lonely food shopping for yourself can be.. On the list: 4 bananas, 2 apples, Oatmeal, Half a gallon of orange juice, 2 pieces of chicken breast, Half a gallon of milk, a box of cereal, a fillet of salmon. Cried at my car and took me a long time to compose myself enough to drive home safely. Miss my husband so much.
  • mominva

I missed shopping for my son, so I know exactly what you mean. It's tough. Your shopping list was as sad as mine.
  • CTmomof3

Oh my Joel's I was in your boat sunday at the  store.  Did the  same darn thing.  Food shopping for one is very lonely, a new way of life . But for me it's always going to be like this, for you it's only 8 weeks and trust me it will go by fast.
  • dudiesmom

My son left today for Niagara Falls.. leaving tomorrow for GL. It was a sad morning here but I'm feeling better. He called tonight and said there were 8 of them going together so he wasn't as nervous. I was okay until I heard my younger son say to his brother.. 'I"m going to miss you- this is the first summer of my whole life you won't be around. " :( He is 17 and his brother is almost 22. I told him it's not that much different then when he went away to college for 3 years. Counting the weeks til we go to GL to see him.
  • Willsmom

anybody have ship 12, division 224?
  • Sharon-Proud Sailor Mom

Willsmom - my SR is ship 12, div 212, I think that means they're in the same sleeping quarters - my son is an IT.

  • MidwestMom

My SR is wandering through O'Hare waiting for the bus.  Our journey begins.
  • dudiesmom

My son should be at Ohare now too, Midwestmom. He called me before he left and was supposed to get in Chicago at 5:30.

  • Willsmom

Sharon Ship-my son is a CTI.  I don't fully understand the ship/division thing yet, but am working on it!  I was in the Army, but find it totally different than the Navy!  I guess the division is made up of several ships?  What is an IT?  Intelligence?
  • CArol

I'm guessing my son is at O'Hare about now as well. He didn't take his phone, so don't know exactly! I'm glad his adventure has begun ~ he waited a long time for this day. dudismom, where did your son leave from?
