This group is for N4M members that have a loved one leaving for bootcamp in May...I will leave the year open so that even future Deppers leaving in the month of May of any year can join...Lets share stories, information, concerns, and questions
Shortly after 5, his texting ended so perhaps the last plane landed and they were gathering the group. My daughter said he texted her that there were about 80 of them at that point.
No willsmom,a ship (building) has several divisions (groups of SRs) each division has about 88people. The ship is "self contained" they eat, sleep,pt and have class in it.
Hi Willsmonm and Sharon Ship, my son is also ship 12 div 224. He shipped out on May 12th. He is rated as a CTI with follow on A school at Monterrey, CA. I guess in the future we will get their PIR and can start a group for them :)
My son shipped out the same day as yours from CA, we got the box today, but no ship or division info yet. Did you get that info recently? In the box? BTW, Monterrey is gorgeous!
Got my final call last night at 11:00 pm. Glad I had my phone next to me. He sounded excited but couldn't quite remember what he had to say. :) He said he'd call again in 3 weeks.
My son called last night as well...and forgot the 4th thing he was supposed to tell us. Anyone know what it was?? (He got there, will call in 3 weeks, we'll get a letter, and ??)
Willsmom - IT is information technology - I think A school is in Pensecola. He called today for more info - sounded homesick, he hasn't gotten any of my letters yet. Anyway --keep your phones handy for that 847 area code!!
Stepsyl.. when my son called it sounded like he was trying to remember the things he was supposed to say.. he forgot to say we'd get a letter. Repeated everything else. I'm just glad to know he's there. My son is almost 22.
My son is 23 - sounds like we have a more mature division . . .lol The phone calls are kind of strange - as if they're reading from a piece of paper or someone is telling them what to say - anyway, I'll take it - it was good to hear him say - I love you too Mom. His grandma and grandpa got a letter today - which really made them happy and proud.
stepsyl...lol...Trying to figure out whether the eight weeks includes the inprocessing time or just the training time...thought you had some kind of insight! :O
@Willsmom, just got 1st letters from my daughter today who left on 5/4. The 9 weeks includes 1 week of processing.... she wrote late on the 7th and they were bunked in a mail room of all places!
It's been one week since my son left for BC, I got THE box yesterday but still no letter. I'm on a roller coaster of emotions, especially today as I was washing his clothes that were sent home. He left on May 11th, arrived in GL the 12th. I'm thinking he'll probably be part of the July 8th PIR.
Sailor Mom Lisa...my son also left the 11th, arrived at RTC the 12th. I also got the box today; no letter - not even a note :( I can sure relate to the emotional rollercoaster, but today is easier than yesterday! The box was tough, cause I really thought a note would be in it. Oh well....good things come slow! Keep your chin up - a letter will come soon!
Hi Sailor Mom Lisa. I actually got my son's address from his recruiter. I live in San Antonio and the recruiter is close by. they are able to track down the recruits and provide the address quickly to the parents. I just got his box today to. Hopefully will get a letter soon. I'm currently driving the car I bought him and it's funny cause it has his AXE scent all over, hahaha.
Hi WillsMom. My son is 19. He won't be 20 til this winter. I'm kind a blessed and lucky in that I work on a military base and in my office work alongside Navy, Army and Air force personnel, plus there are Coast guard and Marines in other offices. since I work with the young service members I see them mature and work together and grow together. They also seek mentoring from us older civilians and this lets me know that my son will be fine and work in a great environment. I'm retired Army and so is his father. We both work in military installations with military personnel and both of us were and currently work in the same field my son chose, so it's kinda "all in the family" :) We just have to get through the hurdle of him passing basic training!
@NYRican924 I also tried the recruiter today and he said he hadn't rec'd the info yet :-( I understand the whole AXE thing, LOL, had to clean out the shower of about 5 different assorted scents of the stuff. That's ok though, reminds me of him. @Willsmom, thanks for the encouragement. Our boys got there about the same time...were probably processing about the same time too. We'll see what divisions they end up in. My son just turned 19 during processing week btw...sounds like he's one of the younger ones.
N03113 - my son also left May 11th and I've gotten "the box". No letter in the box, no letter in the mail. :( Even as we speak, I have a lump in my throat from missing him, but just am trusting God to keep him in His care. I know I will eventually hear from him...till then, I just keep writing!
My daughter left for BC on 4 May. I was given an address from her Recruiter, when I posted this information I was advised not to trust the address because it might not ever get to her. So I waited for the form letter that was forever to arrive. Something in my gut told me to send a test letter and I am so glad I did because on the first day they were able to receive mail, my daughter was one of three that got any mail and it spiked her spirits up, so trust your gut and send those letters. Good luck to all of your SR's and you.
My son left Tuesday May 11, got the box on Friday, got the form letter on Monday. But no letter from him, no note in the the box, no note with the form letter. Waiting patiently, hoping he will write. Can't wait to hear from him.
I son arrived at Boot Camp on Monday, May 16, and I received the box today. I really didn't think it would be here so quick. Wasn't quite ready to see it on the front porch. Nothing but his clothes and cell phone. Did anyone else arrive on the 16th? I can't wait to hear his voice again or receive the address. I have wrote letters every day and waiting to mail them.
Joel's Rackie -- No, this isn't only for moms, but we probably do outnumber the GF, wives, dads, etc. You are always welcome. There are groups for wives and girl friends, but again, you are welcome to stay here and share with others who have loved ones leaving in May!
Hi again Willsmom, I figured chances were your son would be in same ship.div as my Jay. I'm thinking Sailor Mom Lisa's boy will be there too. Jay told me that when he got to the Airport/USO there were only three other guys there with him that night. I got his call at 11:55 pm, and yesterday I got the box. When I took out the contents of just the clothes he had on and his phone I pictured some drill ordering my boy to strip and as he inspected he threw the sweats at him. Low and behold a navy PO that works with me told me that that is pretty much how it actually is! Crazy thought.
Hey NYRican924! Wow....although I was in the Army (eons ago!), and know in my heart how the military is, somehow it's different thinking of my son going through it! I mean, I know without doubt he can handle it...guess it's just the thought of how the drill instructors can be...lol...
So willsmom and Sailor Mom Lisa, I may be getting ahead of myself but I'm guessing our young recruits will be graduating on July 8th :) I dunno, but having a date in my mind kinda pysch's me out. I can sort of be counting down with him. I really can't wait for that first letter in his god aweful handwriting, hahaha.
Hi NYRican924, I think you're right and our boys, Willsmom, Marlowmom? & Mominva? may have the July 8th PIR too?? Just dying for the letter with the division info and address though! I really want to start sending my letters. My son arrived in GL on May 12th and would have been in the USO that afternoon, our sons probably were there in the same group :-)
hi everyone, my son;s Pir date is July 1! I am so excited to know. I have sent 12 letters so far myself, so far no response, I do know it takes time. I am just happy to have his address and to be able to send him letters. Looking forward to hearing his voice and getting a letter from him, just sending good vibes for now.
Navy mommo, sorry I left you out of that list. I know there's more out there who will be part of the 7-8 PIR. I'm really just guessing at this point about which group we'll be in. Still waiting for the specifics in the letter from RTC. I love your profile pic btw! @ Mominva, Looks like you're one week ahead of us. Sounds like you'll be out there for the 4th of July weekend...that will be fun! You'll have to keep us in the loop as you'll be going through it just before us :-)
I will be happy too! I am excited for what's ahead! I hope my son is feeling the same way! haha probably not, I have been watching You Tube videos of Navy Boot Camp and I feel I have a better idea of what my son is experiencing right not. I'll be here so will inform as I can! Glad we are all doing this together.
So now, after having been sending nearly daily letters since May 11th, I find out that the address the recruiter gave me may not be a good address!!! AGGHHHH! Oh well, perhaps someone will benefit from them! lol............Still no call, letter or forms in the mail. The mail lady now expects me to be nearby!
@ Linda B - My son arrived on May 16th also. I received "the box" yesterday. Your daughters should be coming soon. Just keep a look out on your front porch. It's a good and bad feeling all at the same time. No notes nothing but what their clothes and shoes. I'm hoping to receive the letter on Monday. :0) . At least I can hope. Good luck and best wishes. I didn't think I would miss him so much. I have good days and bad ones. Hopefully that will go away when I can talk with him.
