This group is for N4M members that have a loved one leaving for bootcamp in May...I will leave the year open so that even future Deppers leaving in the month of May of any year can join...Lets share stories, information, concerns, and questions
To ReneeBC----- Happy Mother's Day! I agree with your comment SO strongly! This is really the last time you will stand and watch your son (or daughter) take such a momentous step in their journey to being adults. It really doesn't matter how old they are when they do it either. I wouldn't have missed this day for ANYTHING!
I don't think we can say it enough. It's not hand-holding to go with them. It's more like when they were learning to walk; you didn't always hold their hand, sometimes you just had to stand behind them so they felt safe enough to do it on their own.
Of course, then you clapped and squealed... and they fell....but you get the idea. LOL
taking my son to MEPS tomorrow evening for the last time. Me and his sisters are taking him to dinner then leaving him for the night. But we are going back in the AM to see the swearing in. I would not miss this for the world! Thanks for all the info everyone. I'm sure there will be many questions in the next 8 weeks.
Calls for Recruits.org would like you to know about a program for the Men and Women of our Armed Forces. I am giving away free phone cards for Recruits to use while they are in basic training to keep in touch with Family Members and Loved Ones. I feel that the Family, Loved Ones, nor the Men and Women of our Armed Forces should have to pay for phone calls from Boot Camp. Please click the link above and get your new Service Member the FREE phone cards they need.
I will be looking for the mom/wife/GF etc. who will be interested in creating the nextPIR group.
Hopefully07/06/2012…Not sure if there will be a PIR this week because of the Fourth of July Holiday.
BUT…there may be…so please report in with your PIR dates when you get your Form letters…even if you do not want to create the group…it will at least let us know that there IS a PIR for that date.
This most likely will be a "mom" who's recruit arrived to RTC sometime this last week...there are no exacts…ONLY my “guestimation”. (Possibly 05/03 – 05/08) Some of you will start receiving your form letters soon with your recruits PIR date in it.
New TG’s are usually posted on RTC website on Mondays (unless there is a Federal Holiday then it is Tuesday). Lately, it has been posted later in the week. Then back to Mondays! So you can see what I mean about no exacts.
BC can be anywhere from 7.5 to 9 weeks. It is also possible for recruits to arrive in the same week…or on the same day…but have different PIR dates. Your recruiter may have your recruit’s ship/division as early as 72 hours after arriving at BC.I will take this ship/div # for the purpose of starting a PIR group BUT please wait for the form letter that your recruit will send home to address your mail and send it. The address your recruiter gets oftentimes is incomplete or has too much information that is not necessary for the address.
Folks, if it is something you think you'd be interested in...Friend me, send me a message and get details.
Here are the Current PIR groups. We do not have a confirmation yet for all of the Divisions in the June 29, 2012 TG, but we have seen up to Division 203 so there will be a 204.
This would make 11 Divisions...but there could be more.
Anyone else have someone in division 934? We haven't gotten the letter yet from my daughter but this is the info the recruiter has. She's really hoping for a PIR date of 7/6 because it's her birthday. Fingers crossed!
ccczzz- if they have a PIR on 7/6 that would be great for everyone. My son is in Div 204 - which we haven't gotten a confirmation if he is actually going to PIR on 6/29 - but based on "brother" divisions he should be with 203. My son actually wanted PIR to be on 7/4 - Independence Day.
Swearing In Day.... Well, my son is finally on a plane heading to GL. His swearing in was as 10 this am. Then we waited. Others swore in. We waited. Some had lunch. He had lunch. We waited. Finally, they left to go to the airport. A group from the MEPS building and the few (VERY FEW) parents who were there applauded and cheered the sailors on the way to the airport van. When my son got to the airport about 1:45 for a 2:10 flight, the Navy had canceled the ticket. GO FIGURE. We waited. He called. No numbers on the pamphlet were working. We waited. Finally, got someone who booked him on a later flight. We waited. He left at 4:30. We drove home. He is in ATL with a quick turn around and heading to the GL to arrive around 8. What a day ! Surprisingly unemotional due to sitting with a young navy wife who was there with a friend. Her perspective was "this isn't a deployment". WOW. So happy it wasn't a deployment. Good night all,
For those who loved ones yet to ship, here's some more about yesterday's schedule. My son got to ORD about 8. (flight delays see previous post). They waited until everyone's flight was there before the bus came to get them. My son was able to txt a bit but not too much. He ate at Chilis which would NOT have been his choice of food but since his last meal was at 12:30 and he didn't get to eat until 9 PM, he ate it. His call came (from the base ) at midnight. He was very tired and said he thought there would be no sleep that night. The hotel day was not conducive to sleep as his roommate did not ship the following day and did not go to bed until late. He was unable to sleep much on the flight. I am sure he will tonight LOL. Thought some of you might benefit from this blow by blow account of our day to prepare you for yours. Evidently, the box will be mailed either today or tomorrow which is wonderful so that I will have his address sooner than I expected.
My son swore in today and is on his way. What a long day but such a proud moment. I held it together until I got outside away from him. Made the long drive home and drove up to his car in the street and his dirty clothes on the floor. Lost it all over again. I miss him so much already. Hoping these tears stop soon.
My daughter, Erin, is swearing in today and flying off to bootcamp. I am glad this journey is finally here. DEP was great, just ready for the next phase. She is anxious, scared and VERY excited. I think it might be a little easier for me than some moms because I went through this same experience 28 years ago myself. Time will tell. Have a great day!
I hope it is easier for you, but I found going to boot camp was so much easier than sending my "child" off. :) Of course, for me, it has nothing to do with worries about my child. It has everything to do with missing him and not being in control of if and when I can speak to him....well, that and being an emptynester now, too. LOL
my husband left for BC May 16 at 155PM from San Diego. I got the i'm here call around 938PM last night. oh! i wish i can just sleep and wake up 3 weeks later!
My SR left for BC the `14th at 6 pm from Atl. Got my call at midnight and today (the 17th) I got the box. Hope this time flies. Also, got his ship number from the recruiter today.
I will be looking for the mom/wife/GF etc. who will be interested in creating the nextPIR group.

my daughter left Ohio on 5/21 and is planned to go to Texas for her A school, does anyone know what day of the week PIR generally is and if when they go away for this school does that mean that they leave right after PIR? i also have a second one leaving August 1st for RTC then off to Conneticut for A school, hopefully our experience with her will help for the second one!

FTLW what website are you taking about that new recruits will be posted on, I am very new at this and i have looked around the web site and I am still still trying to learn everything. Thank you
Navyknit22.. I feel for you i just went through the same thing. Be prepared for the call being very short. I did not even get a chance to ask him anything. The last thing he said was he loved me and that put joy in my heart. Good Luck.
Chris's Mom. My Jeff went to the Great Lakes also. Got the phone call last night. It was good to know he was there, but we miss him already! Eight weeks seems so far away!
Linus8 our boys may be there together. I got my call at 10:14 and then could not hardly sleep. I know what you mean about this being along 8weeks. Right now it seems so far acan not wait to se the change in my young man.
Good morning everyone. I have a question I thought I read a post where you could keep up with your sailor day to to I have to find this site. If anyone could help me that would be wonderful. Thank you. Hopeeveryone has a wonderful dsy.
I received the" box" today,Lindsey left on 5/21 so I would guess that others will be or are receiving theirs today or soon! I can only imagine how unhappy she is after that, a lot of the stuff she was told she would be allowed to have was returned!
Does anyone know if they will get the day off on Monday since it is a holiday and if so can we even hope for a call from them?
My daughter took things that I warned her she would not be able to keep and of course it all came back in the box. First rule of bootcamp is your RDC is always right. Second rule of bootcamp is so is your mother. :)
She also accidentally sent back her stamps and her boyfriend's address which were in a different pocket of her wallet. I just included them in the next couple of letters and hope she got them. If not she had cash for postage she can buy there and can ask for his address if she needs it.
I don't think there's holidays in bootcamp and the first call won't come for a while. My daughter left on May 8th and hasn't called (except the "I'm safe" call) yet. It will seem like a long time but will be all the better when it comes.
Thanks to all for all the answers! I figured I shouldn't hope for a holiday! Oh well! I tried her recruiter for the address but he took a vacation, so I guess I have to wait until Tuesday to get this address and thanks I will ask you all to check it first! Thanks again. Tori
Hello to everyone! I'm fairly new here, my son left May 8th for boot camp. I keep hearing about a form letter, but so far I have not received anything in the mail. I got his address from his recruiter, so everyone has been writing him. It's tough not knowing or hearing anything...I hold my breath checking the mailbox every day. His address is ship 03 USS Hopper DIV 207. Does anyone out there have any info about this division? If so, I would really appreciate any info you have.
