Rosa91, I'm glad to help. Hug that precious little one. I'm sure his daddy will be so proud of him when he hears/reads about it.

  • Smoke2010 (Ship 13 Div 269)

My son arrived at Great Lakes on Wednesday , May 23rd. By my calculation his PIR date should be July 19th.

  • Proud mom 2013

Mine got there on the 22nd...can't wait to get the box...but especially the address to be able to write to him. The waiting is so hard...

Now is a good time to remind you about OPSEC and PERSEC. Watch what you post and don't post your future Saior's name. Some of you may want to change your profile pic to remove that pic of your loved one before s/he gets to BC or if s/he is there now. See  OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes To Your Profile). Some of you need to make changes 1 AND 2; most of you need to make change 3; and many of you need to make change number 4. That Page is within Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones); I invite you to join if you haven't already and to start checking out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) there.

Also, if your future Sailor ships this week, be sure to check out the discussion, Things to Do in the Last Month Before Your Future Sailor Leaves for the RTC. I added some info on vehicles that may affect some of you.

  • Saratoga

Thank you, lemonelephant.  My future sailor asked me to post his address on his facebook page when it arrives, but now, not knowing his privacy settings, I think I will pass it out to his friends individually...

  • lemonelephant

Saratoga, you are welcome. I tend to be a little more cautious than some, but this is our family (immediate family and/or Navy family) we're talking about, so caution is good.

  • Ladichez

So excited I finally got a PIR date. I've been smiling all day. I'm looking at hotels and deciding if I want to fly or take that ride 12hrs but it will be 4 of us so it might be worth it to drive. Tears of joy today when I saw her handwriting on the envelope
  • Saratoga

Yes, lemonelephant... I certainly agree.  Thanks for all of your help!

  • lemonelephant

    :o) I'm glad to help.

  • Saratoga

Hi, I may have missed something regarding the division numbers.  Just curious as to what, or if, the division numbers mean certain things.  I see some are in the 200's, then some 800's, and some 900's?

  • lemonelephant

Saratoga, yes, they do mean something. Regular divisions are those that are currently in the 200's--they begin with 001 in TG 01 in the fall and continue up until the end of the Navy fiscal year. There is always an even number of regular divisions in each TG since two consecutively numbered regular divisions are brother divisions and train together and will have BST together. 800 Divisions are for special ops and 900 divisions are the performing division for the TG. See Ship/Division--How it Works and 800 and 900 Divisions within Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) for more on that.

  • Deedee

Finally received my first letter from my SR!! He can't wait to get out of there. He did say that he is working hard and doing fine. I'm hopeful!! He said they are only getting 3-4 hours of sleep. Yikes.
  • Saratoga

Thank you once again lemonelephant!  You are a great help:

  • lemonelephant

Deedee, they do get a few more hours of sleep once they get past P-days and those first few weeks and get used to each other and the red light. There will be nights when there is not much sleeping, such as when they have Marline Spike and BST.

  • lemonelephant

Saratoga, you are very welcome. I'm glad to help.

  • Saratoga

Well, it's funny (not really) when and where "it" hits you.  I thought I had been doing relatively well since my son left for boot camp.  Of course, I have my times.  Last night, right in the middle of grocery shopping, I'm picking out our dinners and trying to get what everyone likes...  Then my husband and I shared how we were feeling on the way home... of course, teary, but so proud.

  • Pam- Jared's mom

I got a call yesterday! It sounds like he's doing well! He still has the job of carrying the flags for his division which makes him proud. Hell week is in a week and then he's looking forward to the "fun stuff" after that - shooting, firefighting and battlestations. It was great to hear his voice!
  • Saratoga

Pam (Div 248), that is so great!  I am really happy that you got to speak with him:)

  • FireTeamLeaderWife aka FTLW

    PIR 07/26/2013 has been started.

    Here is the direct link:

    http://www.navyformoms.com/group/pir07262013

    Please come and join!

This will be TG 37 and start with a Regular Division of 271 and have a 900 Division of 937.

  • Ladichez

Hello I talked to my daughter today :-) we talked for 30 minutes she sounded great. They did pull 2 wisdom teeth she said the only good thing about that is she was able to sleep for 2 days lol. She passed her written test and her DIV is getting a treat today since they are doing well they get to go buy hair products lol well at least that is what she is getting. So hopefully everyone gets a call soon
  • SamisMom

Ladichez - that's awesome that you got to talk with her for so long!!!  My daughter left in May also - the 21st - when is your daughters PIR?  My baby girl is doing her PIR on July 19th.

I haven't heard from her yet!! Ugh. It's driving me crazy. She called the first Saturday after she left but I missed the call. Get to hear her message over and over again but didn't speak directly with her. Yet. :o) I was hoping I'd get a call this weekend but not so far. I've sent over 7 letters and haven't gotten anything from her yet!  I'm sure all is well - I just want to hear her voice and feel out how she's doing and feeling, you know?  Soon I hope. Soon.  :o)

  • lovemysailors

This might seem obvious, but I have realized that some people didn't know this:  Do all your SR's have ways to call home, meaning calling cards or calling card codes?  You can get 8 free codes (each worth 20 minutes!) by going to callsforrecruits.com.  The directions are on the website. It's a great ministry!  I was just wondering if that's why a few of you haven't heard from your SR yet... I hope you hear from them soon! :0)

  • SamisMom

With regard to what you said here, lovemysailors, that's not obvious at all. For me though, I did send her the 8 free minutes (6 for her to use and 2 for someone without). I hear they don't get the mail until around the 3rd week which is about where we're at with her being in BC so she probably hasn't received them yet. That might be it. She did call last week but like I said, I missed it :o(  rats!  Sigh. Just waiting for a letter too. Gosh, I hope I get a bunch this week! LOL  But, as they say, "No news is good news!"

Thanks for the info you posted here for other newbies that might not know about them. I didn't know at all until AFTER she left!  So thanks!

  • MomLovesRyan Ship 09 Div 266

SamisMom Ship 09 Div 265 :o) - My son's Ship 09 Div 266.  My son did get to call yesterday around 5pm est. He said he thinks they'll get to call next Saturday, too. Don't know if Div 265 to 266 makes a difference in when they get to call or not. But, when I spoke with him yesterday, he said he has received all 3 of the letters I've sent - one May 30th, June 1st, and June 3rd. So...she may have received your letters already. I have not received a letter from my son. He said he hasn't had time to write one.

  • Ladichez

Samismom ship 09 div 266 my daughter left on may 20th her PIR is on July 12th she also mentioned she started getting my letters my letters last week and that she loves when we send her pics and they all share their pictures so if you can send some pics they love them :-)
  • navyboyzrus03

Cant believe it but I missed my SR first call home. I never g anyway n Sundays but needed to get out f the house and went and had lunch with my mom. I had my cell phone on and he did call it, but for some reason it didn't ring. My mom and I both started crying when I realized I had missed him. Since I am a home health nurse I have a special message on my phone and so on the end f that I recorded a message for him to just in case. Glad I did cause at least in a way I got to tell him I love him. He did get t speak t his brothers. They said he sounded great. Said he was the youngest there which is funny cause he has always been that way because I started him to school a year early. He is playing his trumpet which he loves and is great at so I think that helps. But because he is in that division he won't get the same down time because he will have to be practicing. Still hate I missed him but he at least got to hear his brothers voices. He did my 9 yo wonders. He always call my little one his "mini me" in training. Mine had not receive any letters as f yet either and I know I am not the only one to write any.

  • SamisMom

MomLovesRyan and Ladichez - thanks so much you guys. I'm going to believe she's received my 7! letters!  LOL  Poor thing - probably inundated with them!  I'm just really hoping for a letter soon...like I mentioned before, I did get a call from her the first Saturday after she left that I sadly missed - but she left a good message and I enjoy listening to it periodically. She had a cold as I keep hearing most of our SRs do and got a job that she was pretty excited about. Sigh. I just want to hear her voice to be sure she really is okay you know?

Ladichez - ahhh, your SR is doing their PIR a week before my daughter. Enjoy!!!

navyboyzrus03 - I'm so sorry you missed the call but how wonderful he seems to be doing!!! Smart with your message - I think I'll do that as well.  :o)

  • MomLovesRyan Ship 09 Div 266

Ginj64 - OMGOSH! I am so sorry you missed all those calls! That had to be heartbreaking. Letters are so special, though, too. I keep mine next to the bed and read them at night before going to sleep.

  • Ladichez

Hello ladies! I finally received my letters she is doing great and ready foe graduation ahe says her running is doing better so hoping ans praying everything will go well for PIR on july 12
  • Proud mom 2013

No calls since the 12th...hoping for a letter this week at least!
  • Navy Mom Chas

Goodbye and good luck to all who have SR's joining the elite few who are a part of a wonderful Naval tradition.  Our son graduated on 7/12/13 in an unforgettable ceremony at the Drill Hall at RTC.  It was very impressive and we were so proud.  Enjoy it when your time comes.  "Fair Winds and Following Seas."

  • jannykay_Nuke_A_School_GooseCrk

Looks like I am first one on here for May 2014 RTC Ship Dates!!!  It seems so long in the future, yet I know it is only around the corner and will come quicker than expected.

  • Beaus mom

Hi jbflynt, my son leaves in May as well, May 6 as of right now. I know, I am soaking up every minute I can with him! You are right, it is right around the corner. Where are you located? I'm in Northern California. Take care and enjoy your time
  • jannykay_Nuke_A_School_GooseCrk

Hi there Beaus Mom!!  Sorry for delay in response!  Yes, I am trying to soak up every second and thankful for the time and nervous about all to come.   We are in North Carolina.   We had a nice Thanksgiving - her dad / my husband passed away in July 2013, so things are "transitional" for the holidays and emotional.  But he knew of her plans and supported her decision.  I know also that the time will allow us (her, me and my youngest / her sister) the time to further grieve loss of Mike while getting ready for her journey to start.

  • lemonelephant

The default Privacy Setting on N4M is "Anyone." That means that ANYONE with access to the web has access to everything on your My Page. To change that, make change number 3 at the bottom of OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile), While you are there, read the Page and see if there are other changes you need to make.

  • Conner's Mom

Hi everyone!  My son leaves for BC on 5/1/14 and then will go to NUKE training in Goose Creek, SC.  I'm looking to keep informed and support him in his Navy career.

  • VeganMom

Hi Connor's mom, my son leaves the same day. You are the first person I have seen leaves that day. I wish you all well. He was set too go to one school but his recruiter wants him to go to nuke as well. We will see.
  • Conner's Mom

Hi Vegan Mom.  He received his 5/1 BC date back on 9/11/13. We're hoping the Navy's schedule doesn't change!  We're from Maryland and visited Charleston, SC in August, 2013.  Let me say, we're used to the hot/humid weather but Charleston was even hotter/more humid that home!  Let's keep in touch.

  • VeganMom

Thanks Connor 's mom! I am a mixed bag of emotions but he is very excited and so I am glad for that. I will keep in touch for sure. Take care!
  • DonnaEricsMom

Hi all, it's nice to see other mom's with the same excitement and worries as I've got.

  • lemonelephant

It's not too early to check out the discussion, Things to Do in the Last Month before Your Future Sailor Leaves for..., and to start discussing some of the things there with your future Sailor.

  • Psalm150.1.6

My son is leaving for BC May 6. He is taking swimming lessons and working out! He is very excited to work on Subs after BC.
