  • Beaus mom

My son leaves May 6th out of Sacramento.  Does anybody else have a son or daughter that leaves on that date?

  • lemonelephant

For those of you who haven't done so yet (or lately), be sure to check out the discussion, Things to Do in the Last Month before Your Future Sailor Leaves for.... I also suggest you join Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) and start checking out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) beginning with OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile) (there are some changes at the bottom that some of you need to make) and Arrival and What Happens at the RTC.

Beaus Mom, my son leaves from NY on May 6, 2014.
  • Beaus mom

Hi Psalm 150.1.6, we are in the same "boat" :-). It used to seem like we still had plenty of time before he left, now, not so much. I am in Northern California. Where will your son go to A School? My son will be going to Charleston. He is in the Nuke program. Have a wonderful day!
  • Psalm150.1.6

Hi Beaus Mom! Six weeks to go. My son volunteered for Subs. He is in the SCEF. He will be going to Groton, CT after BC .
  • 2boysandamom

For those of us that have kids leaving May6th or 7th- if you figure bootcamp is 8 weeks long that takes us to the week of July 4th. Does anyone know if they will have a graduation that week or would it be moved to the following week? Just trying to bet an idea for PIR. Th aks
  • lemonelephant

Yes, by counting 9 Fridays, those arriving the first full week of May will most likely have PIR on 07/03/2014. It will be on Thursday since the 4th is a federal holiday. Some who arrive on Monday or Tuesday could have PIR on 06/27/2014 depending on when their divisions form. You just have to wait on the form letter to know for sure. See Arrival and What Happens at the RTC within Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) for more on that.

    Source of Inspiration

My son has graduated but I wanted to let you know my son’s inspiration that helped him get through basic training.  Before he left for Great Lakes we had a combination high school graduation and “Bon Voyage” party with a navy theme.  My husband ordered a custom banner from ETSY that had an anchor on it and his name.  During the party all of his friends used a permanent marker to sign the banner and added notes of congratulations and encouragement.  The next day I took the banner to our “church family” soon the banner was almost completely covered.  When my son called me from basic training before battle stations he asked if we could bring the banner with us.  He said that when things got tough during training he would think of all the people that signed that banner and he knew everyone was so proud of him.  We could not bring the banner into the graduation ceremony hall, but it was proudly hung on the hotel room door all weekend!  Just thought I’d pass on the story.  My husband got the banner from here: http://customribbons.etsy.com

How do I deal with address changes (ours) while our son is in Boot? We're not sure where we will be 2 weeks after he leaves. Any ideas would help. Thanx.

My daughter leaves May 19th for BC.... she is a NUKE..... any other moms out there with this date?

  • Psalm150.1.6

I met my son`s recruiter today. He is a very nice young man. Asked me if I had any questions or concerns. I found out my son leaves to get processed  and swears in on May fifth at Albany, NY MEPS. He leaves that night for GL. I start a new job that day. I really want to see him off! Getting kind of stressed. I have to see if his dad can take my place.

  • therevbev

Few parents actually make it to MEPS for the swearing in... at least 7 years ago when my eldest became a Marine, there were only my husband, I and 1 other parent. I hope you can make, Psm150.1.6. It is a wonderful reminder of the beginning of the journey.

  • cherbear

Hello! My son will be leaving for boot camp May 6th. He originally was suppose to go in Dec, but due to a surgery it was delayed.

Anyone out there that has a son/daughter leaving around then? I would love to connect.

  • Beaus mom

Hi Cherbear!  My son leaves May 6 as well.  I am in California, where are you?  This date is coming way too fast for me.  My son has been in DEP for 8 months.  Yesterday  my son went to the recruiting office and did his "30 day" meeting, paperwork, etc. He is ready to go and super excited.  I have to tell myself to be positive and not seem down when inside I am so sad :-( .  But, they have to grow up some time.  My son will be 21 in August and has already been away at college in Florida.  He has been back here for the past year going to school.  Even though he has an apartment about 20 minutes away I still see him just about everyday.  I look forward to chatting with you.  Have a great day!

  • Psalm150.1.6

CherBear! My son leaves for BC May 6th as well. I`am in NY. Actually he leaves May 5th to do his final swearing in at MEPS in Albany, NY. He ships out that night for Great Lakes. Congrats and welcome!

  • cherbear

Hi Beaus mom and Psalm150.1.6 !! So happy to connect! We are from MI about an hour north of Detroit. This has been a bumpy yet long wait for my son. He was suppose to leave in December and we were all ready. Then was delayed due to a surgery and he waited some more. Then finally he got an Oct. 1st ship date which meant more waiting. Then last week he got a call that said he was leaving May 6th. Now I feel unprepared, which is weird because I've had all this time. After boot camp he will be going to A school in Groton CT for SEFC. How about your kids?

If you have not yet joined Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones), now is a good time to do so (especially if you have a recruit at the RTC) and to begin checking out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) starting with OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile) (some of you have changes that you need to make--at least change 3) and Arrival and What Happens at the RTC.

  • Beaus mom

Cherbear, what a roller coaster that has been for you and your family.  Hopefully his May 6 date won't change.  After bootcamp my son will be going to A school in South Carolina, he's in the nuclear engineering program.  So, he will be a long way from home :-(.  I have learned so much from this site about what to expect in the coming months, it really is a lifesaver!  I feel like my son has a pretty good grasp of things and sometimes I tell him things that Ive learned from this site that he hasn't heard before.  The recruiting office where he has his DEP meetings is awesome.  He enjoys his DEP meetings and the physical training.  He is kind of a gym rat anyway so he feels like the physical training part of bootcamp won't be a challenge.  He says the PT at bootcamp will be a "piece of cake", I hope he's right.  How is your son feeling?  With his delays he is probably just ready to get this started!  Take care and have a great day :-)

  • Psalm150.1.6

Cherbear! My son is also in the SECF! He will be going to Submarine A school in Groton, CT! He is in the DEP. He just completed his third year of college when he decided to enlist in November. My mother pass away in September. I think that had a hand in his decision. He enlisted when he was 18 and decided he wanted to go to college. I guess he is ready to serve his country!

Someone must have dropped out. The recruiter had offered my son a date much sooner, because some in his rate dropped out. He declined.Three weeks to go. Feeling apprehensive even though I know what to expect.

This site has answered most of my questions and fears. I prayed and I know God is covering him! He will cover our children too!

Cherbear, our sons more than likely meet each other!

  • lemonelephant

therevbev, make sure that you file a change of address with the post office so that your mail will be forwarded. Let your SR's recruiter know the new address and s/he may be able to enter it into the system. Give it to your SR in your first letter so he can make the change in his paperwork.

  • lemonelephant

I have left info on "A" School on many of your My Pages, so check your My Page.

If I didn't and you need more info on your future Sailor's rating (job/specialty) leave a comment on my My Page with the contracted rating and I will give you info on the rating and groups to join.

My son leaves may 13 and is going nuke. Sorry not a spouse but it is exciting to hear about other people doing the same thing.
  • Razorbackfan214

My son leaves May 6th.  He is entering the Nuke program.  We are excited for him and this amazing opportunity.  He has been waiting to leave for close to a year.  The reality of his departure has just hit us.  I have already learned so much about what to expect, just in the last 24 hours (since I first found the site).  I'm hoping this support will keep me from shedding a lot of tears.

  • give them wings

Navywife14 I'm surprised at how few may 13 dates I have seen as well. So do you understand how long they have from graduation until they fly out to Charleston . I guess I am confused as to if they leave Saturday or Sunday. Are you excited?
  • Carla

Hi! My son leaves for BC on May 1. I'm feeling emotional but I know he is ready.
  • DonnaEricsMom

Hi Carla - My son also leaves on May 1st - I get the emotional part very well - I'm there with you - but stay strong.

  • VeganMom

My son leaves May 1 also. I'm trying to hold it together and be brave but I'm so going to cry in the car but be brave for him and try not in front of him. So proud of him!
  • Carla

Thanks Eric's mom and VeganMom. We can all hang in there together. I am so proud of him. It is comforting to know that we all have each other on here who can relate and support each other while our children go off to serve our country.
  • 2boysandamom

May 7th is coming so fast. Planning on going to my sons swearing in on May 6th then hang out with him at the hotel. Not sure what time he is flying out yet on the 7th. Hoping I can keep it together for his sake. Really taking in the small little things that he does and not thinking about that once he leaves I don't know when he will make it back home again.

  • VeganMom

Carla I totally agree! I'm so grateful to all for the information and support. I will need it sooooooo much more in 4 days 16 hr and plus minutes. Thanks in advance ladies!
  • lovemysailor

My son is leaving may 1 from atl. Ga, we will get to go see him off! Feeling very nervous and excited for him.
  • lovemysailor

This group for navy moms is amazing, it has helped ease my mind so much!! Thank you.
  • Carla

    Lovemysailor, Eric's mom, and VeganMom,
Thinking of you as you prepare to send your children off on Thursday. I'm cherishing every moment and hug from my son as May 1st quickly approaches.
  • DonnaEricsMom

Thank you Carla . .  I think I'm more nervous then my son is.  I've made a point these last few days to connect with my son every day even if it's just to say I love you . . it will be a while until I get to say that again.  Think of you also Lovemysailor and VeganMom . . I very grateful for each of you.

  • therevbev

I will so miss my youngest when he leaves. But, really? They have to pick him up on Mother's DAY??? I realize they couldn't know it was also my birthday, but surely they knew that taking a son away on Mother's Day is just verboten!!!!

  • lovemysailor

My son will turn 20 while in BC.... Does anyone know anything about birthdays in BC? I have heard things change when they turn 20,25 or 30
  • MattsMom

@therevbev My son is also being picked up on Mother's Day.  We are doing an immediate family dinner on Saturday night.

  • VeganMom

Spending the next few hours as a family before leaving for the recruiters office to say goodbye to my son It's raining very hard here in PA and dreary. It's how I feel
  • Carla

    VeganMom and Shaula, stay strong.
  • Carla

VeganMom, my son leaves May 1 too. My son has to go to recruiters at noon buy didn't say I have to leave him there. I know his swearing in and official leave date is tomorrow. Are recruits supposed to leave home today and stay with recruiters until leaving tomorrow? I actually have asked my son this a couple of times and he didn't indicate that is how it works.
  • DonnaEricsMom

Carla, my son told me that all SR's stay in a hotel tonight and then leave for BC tomorrow.

  • lovemysailor

Hope everyone is staying strong, I'm thinking of you this morning, last night was hard knowing that was his last night at home with us in his bed. Tonight he will be in atl and we will get to go see him off in the morning.
