DEP-Leavin' for bootcamp in May

Everyone, Make it a habit to check your My Page because you may have comments from Members and not even know it if you have the notifications turned off for comments on your My Page. To reply to someone who leaves a comment on your My Page, click on "Comment Back" or "View Thread" (you will have to do that if the person has their profile set to "Just My Friends") below the comment. Also check in the upper left to see if you have Friend requests or any new messages in your Inbox.

anxiousmom and laughingchipmunk - my son signed on in October and ships out May 10th.  We spent the holidays saying "this is his last Thanksgiving here for awhile", "this might be his last Christmas here for awhile"... it wasn't really sad, it just made us all more aware of what is coming, appreciative of being together. My son made sure to spend maximum time with us over the holidays.  I just worry that he is not working out enough, and the running will kill him come May!  But, another lesson he will have to learn on his own.

My son is scheduled to leave for bootcamp on May 3rd - any more out there leaving on that date?

I've learned lots of things on here but had to stop telling my DEP son - I guess he prefers to experience it, not learn about it beforehand. Apparently I guess I was freaking him out a little. I have told him about the website for them mentioned on other pages here (Dep.com??_ but he is not interested. However, he has learned some things from his DEP meetings.

Anyone else have a son or daughter with ship date of May 10? Going to Nuke school after that.

Your future Sailor may want to join http://www.navydep.com to learn the ins and outs from the DEP point of view, but some reject that as well saying that they have the DEP book and the recruiter.

It's not too early to check out the discussion, Things to Do in the Last Month before Your Future Sailor Leaves for..., and to start discussing some of the things there with your future Sailor such as how to handle bad news and who will be put on the Access List....

If you have not yet joined Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones), now is a good time to do so and to begin checking out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) starting with OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile) (some of you have changes that you need to make--at least change 3; make change 4 if your profile pic includes your future Sailor or recruit) and then go on to Arrival and What Happens at the RTC.

I have left info on some of your My Pages about your future Sailor's rating (job/specialty) and "A" School. If anyone else needs this info, leave a comment on my My Page with the rating or field and I will comment back on your My Page. I have info on every rating and field. I also have that info for the PACT programs.

Blessings to all of you whose loved ones are preparing for boot camp in May. I realized it's time for me to leave this wonderful group as my son went to boot camp LAST May; it's hard to believe it's been a year already! He is doing well, and I've had wonderful support and understanding from those of you who walked this path with me last year.

I read somewhere on here that if you count 9 Fridays you can figure out when PIR should be.  I'm trying to figure out our summer plans so need an idea of when PIR will be for my SR who leaves for Boot on May 10.  Does that mean I start counting on May 13 as the first Friday? Or do the P-days not count and I start on May 20? Anyone know?

My FS leaves for RTC on May 10th also.  Love this website and all of the helpful info I've already received!  Thanks to all for being on this journey with me.

So glad to have found this site!! My son is a Nuke and leaves May 18th. We are so excited!!

Just a little over 6 weeks to go until my son's official ship date!  we've been enjoying our time together over these past 6 months in DEP, it's starting to get close and we're all excited! Our special extended family dinners and outings have been wonderful.  Even learned that my dad was stationed in the same town back in the 60s that my son will be in for A school!

Son opted to ship out early and paperwork is all square. Just waiting to hear if he gets the early call!

This site has been wonderful and i really appreciate everyone's help in getting us ready :)

CrnBrdMom my son leaves May 18th as well. Are you on FB? If so joing the DFW Navy Moms page. I am new to all of this and it was great to get together with them last night for dinner and here from moms that have already gone through what we are now doing.

Well my son got the call!  He ships out Monday!! So nervous and excited all at the same time - trying not to cry at work.  Good luck to all the "May Moms" and I'll see you on the boot camp group soon :)

HI EVERYONE.  DOES ANYONE'S SON/DAUGHTER LEAVE MAY 9/10?  MY DAUGHTER LEAVES MAY 9TH ..... IM EXCITED BUT GETTING SAD ....

Yep, the recruiter will take my son to MEPs on the 9th; if everything clears as it should, he flies to RTC on the 10th. Its getting close! Hard to believe...

Who is going to MEPS to see the swearing in? I highly recommend it.

Just two + weeks until my eldest swears in.  Enjoying each moment with him that we can.  Tomorrow he is having a garage sale of his "kid stuff" as he prepares to jump out of the nest.  Then his party...then Mother's Day...then it's May 9th.  So many emotions!

congratulations to him.. My daughter leaves May 18th  My daughter got rid of some stuff, but I told her you never know don't get rid of it all  :)  I am so happy she will be with me on Mothers Day too   

My son leaves exactly 2 weeks from today.  I'm not feeling sad or anxious yet.  I am ready for him to start this adventure. He has been without direction for two years since HS grad and he is a smart young man who needs to find his purpose, his passion and a way to use his brain! I'm hoping the Navy Nuke program will provide all that and more.  So excited for him. But, all that being said I will still worry about him and not being able to text to talk will be tough. Can let the "worrying mind" get to me - especially during the middle of the night!

ShannonM - we are on the same schedule.  "Good Luck" party (vs "Goodby" party) on the 7th.  Mother's Day - brunch on the 8th and off to MEPs on the 9th.  We are planning to go to MEPS on the 10th to see the swearing in and then its hurry up and wait... Excited for him.

Any fun ideas out there for the "Good Luck/Good by" party?

We are having my daughters party soon.. We rented a pool and BBQ area for 2 hours, like we did when she graduated  2 years ago

We are also doing a good luck party on May 7th (5/18/16 MEPS) and I have rented a parks and rec building for the evening for food and fun with family and friends. Maybe some sand volleyball, horse shoes, etc..all decorated in Navy and Gold with anchors and flags.

We are calling the party "Fair Winds and Following Seas" which is supposedly a Navy blessing to start a new adventure.  Just doing a low-key/come by and hang out at the house for family and friends with snacks and dinner.  There are so many fun decorations - I think I am becoming obsessed with anchors!

And yes New2Navy, we are on the exact same schedule with the same plans for the Mother's Day weekend!  Just so grateful that he'll be around for Mother's Day!!

I am so proud and excited for him and trying to breathe in everything and appreciate each moment.  Of course, I have already shed a few tears - with more expected!
