If your future Sailor has yet to ship, be sure to check out the discussion, Things to Do in the Last Month before Your Future Sailor Leaves for....

If you have not yet joined Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones), now is a good time to do so (especially if you have a recruit at the RTC) and to begin checking out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) starting with OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile) (some of you have changes that you need to make--at least change 3; make change 4 if your profile pic includes your future Sailor or recruit) and then go on to Arrival and What Happens at the RTC.

My son leaves May 23rd 2016. He's very excited to begin a new chapter in his life. After a couple of years of college he decided he really wanted the adventure of the Navy and to fill the void of no longer having that camaraderie he missed from being in sports (football, track). He had a hard time choosing between Nuke or CTI, but went with his heart and chose CTI. I am so very proud of him, and I'm sure he'll make the Navy just as proud.

  • Em's mom

Went to MEPS today to see my daughter swear in. What an experience! Such a proud moment! My daughter was so confident! Now waiting patiently for her phone call.
  • Patriciab

Our story is very similar RMac, my son went to a year of college and just did not see the purpose of the general ed classes. I hope he finds what he is looking for int he Navy.

  • didntcthiscoming

Son swore in today.  Feel exhausted emotionally. I need about two weeks sleep.

  • Edwards19 ( Tricia )

My daughter swore in today and left for BC.. I have no idea how but we did not shed a tear.. I had the whole family there, we were all prepared to cry and just didnt , we were all so strong.. Now however the next couple days when it sinks in I may never stop haha .. We were suppose to only get 10 minutes with her after swear in and we got 2 hours so I am sure that helped alot..  My daughter was not nervous, or scared . I think she was so ready to get going .. We will see if that changes in the week or weeks :) Hope not

  • BookWorm

My son swore in and left for BC today as well. Had a good cry yesterday when he left for MEPS and then again today when honey bunny and I left when he went into his travel briefing meeting. Plus have borderline pneumonia. The crying helped with my congestion and I had the best nap this afternoon.
  • Trojans12

BookWorm and Edwards19...I was there last week! My daughter has been at BC for 1 week tomorrow. I thought I did pretty good when we dropped her off but when the box came on Tuesday, that's when it really hit me. Prayers for you and your recruit!
  • didntcthiscoming

My son is at Chicago Ohara waiting on all the other future sailors arrival before midnight. he is with the Seattle group and said they were all considering getting an airport massage ! He said they gave him tons of money for food and they are all gorged. He sounded very spirited considering he woke for Meps at 3 this morning ! He told me they were all enjoying themselves considering they are all going to be yelled at soon. : ) Wish all your future sailors a big congrats !

  • Edwards19 ( Tricia )

yes I am sure the tears are going to come soon..   Trojans12

  • Huggybear

    Edwards 19, my son left 1 year ago today. It's an emotional rollercoaster. Be strong and keep your phone close and charged. Try to write everyday, mail call is like Christmas day to them. It will go by faster than you think. He was in a push division and his PIR was July 10th. {NMH}

  • Edwards19 ( Tricia )

Thank you   Huggybear  I will .. Just gotta keep busy, or I wonder what she is doing all the time haha Congratulations on your son

  • Huggybear

Your Welcome, I wondered what he was doing everyday too. I never asked to many questions. If I had questions that needed answers. I wrote them on a separate sheet of paper. Let space for him to write the answers so all he had to do was return that page. Since you have a daughter she might tell you a little more than my son did. If you are on the Boot Camp Facebook page they randomly post pictures of the divisions.

Same here, Patriciab , my son spent one year in college (bright student, valedictorian, bla-bla), came home and told me, he wants more discipline and a meaningful life... Leaving for BC on May 25th

Cruzr my daughter left yesterday , hang in there

  • Scarlet

@Sosayit it is definitely weird without him around.

A bit more empty here. I can't help to keep thinking what is he doing at this moment or that moment.

  • Indychic75

My son left the 17th. Miss him terribly. It's nice to read comments from other moms who get it.
  • didntcthiscoming

  • thinkhappystuff

It's only been 3 days since my son has been gone, and I'm thinking if him all day/ night. Also praying for all the other families that have loved ones in there. Think happy stuff, positive thoughts!
  • Em's mom

I am missing my daughter like crazy! She left the 18th. Got her last phone call at 7:30 p.m. that evening. Was good to her her voice, for the whole 20 seconds. Saw the "Blue moon" last night, and was hoping she was seeing it too. She's always so intrigued by the night sky! Now waiting for form letter and "the box".
  • Edwards19 ( Tricia )

Em's mom hugs t you.. My daughter left same day.. I got her call about 8:49 pm .. I have been doing good no tears, but all I do is wonder  what she is doing and if she is doing ok.. I am trying to focus on not missing her and thinking too hard as it makes me sad..My call was 16 sec. I recorded it, she sounded good.. I am waiting on Box and letter too. Once we get letters and can send them out maybe that will help.. I know weekend is harder as I am trying to stay busy.. Chat with me or find me on FB if you wanna talk.. Maybe they are in same division.  I try to follow the 6 week schedule for BC , but weekends messed me up haha so guessing P days resumes Monday with 4th day of processing .. Hang in there we got this .. .

  • didntcthiscoming

My son thanks to this site, we knew to expect the scripted call. So, on May 18th around midnight Chicago time I get the call. He starts reading it....expect a box, will call in about three weeks  etc. I listen not wanting to interrupt his script but let out a little giggle.  He pauses, and says " I know... Right ?! " and then continues  "You will get a form.  " I have to go, bye, click.  he put a big smile on my face as he threw in his little piece of humor. : )

  • Edwards19 ( Tricia )

didntcthiscoming haha that is cute.. When my daughter called I said All my I love you's and and proud of you's because she knew that I knew what to expect haha  she sorta giggles too.. 17 sec was my call on the 18th at 8:40pm

  • didntcthiscoming

What do you miss most about your son/daughter ?  I miss meeting him for morning caramel lattes, watching Marvel action movies, working out with him everyday and mostly, our identical humor of making a funny pun out of everything. I can't wait to laugh with him again. !  Share your thoughts !

  • Edwards19 ( Tricia )

I worked all day and she slept and worked alot, but I miss her just being here, her laughs . her friends here, her texts ( we text alot ) Love the memories

  • thinkhappystuff

I'm thankful for this site, because it allows me to see that other moms are thinking of their children all the time, just like me. Last night I missed my son saying, "what's for dinner mom?" It felt very lonely in the house w/out him. His dog looks so sad, I hope he's having a good day.

Ok so I just dropped my son off at the recruiting office.  He goes to the hotel tonight and MEPS in the morning.  Luckily we get to go have dinner with him tonight and hopefully catch him flying out tomorrow.  What an emotional day.

  • Edwards19 ( Tricia )

Ckers94 we did that last Tuesday too, we had her for family dinner. MEPS is about 3 hours each way so we got a hotel room, then spend 3 hours with her at MEPS    yes its a great day.. good things about to happen. My daughter was so ready for this Journey to start.. Hugs to you and congratulations to your son.

  • Patriciab

Mine left today. I am waiting for the call.

  • Jerilyn

My son reported today for basic training. At the hotel now, had a nice dinner together and a call tonight. He seems strong and ready. Nice to see all the other SR's at the hotel, as well. They go to MEPs in the am and then leave on the plane in the pm. Thanks for all of the information and tips, as I feel better prepared to picture him up all night, filling "the box", etc. through Wednesday at basic. Blessings to you all and, like most of you, I look forward to finding out his address.

  • Edwards19 ( Tricia )

Jerilyn congrats to him.. My daughter left a week ago.. still waiting for box and form

  • Edwards19 ( Tricia )

Patriciab  exciting.. I got my call that night about 8:50 I am so glad it was not in wee hours, she sounded good and no robotic at all. Got my I love you's and Proud of you in 16 sec in :)

For May 17th Meps and may 18th Boot Camp, can anyone tell me what processing day they are on ? Trying to follow the day to day calendar to see where he is at . Thanks !

  • didntcthiscoming

  • Edwards19 ( Tricia )

didntcthiscoming I do the same thing, but we never know if they have had to wait on division or something else.. If all went as planned today would be the 5th P day which should be last day as they do not count weekends.. but again anything can throw it off.. I hope today is the last and they are now working as a team and such

  • didntcthiscoming

Edwards19  I hope today is last processing day as well !  I am hoping they get to start physical training tomorrow as it does so much to release stress etc. Can you believe a week has gone by tomorrow ?!  The calendar also says Day 1 Boot Camp they will send letters home ! Soon we will be hearing from them : )

  • Edwards19 ( Tricia )

didntcthiscoming me too .. I hate not knowing  and following.. yep one week , sorta feels longer.. I just want the box and letter haha   Have you got a box yet?

  • LovemySailorAlyssa

where do you guys see where it says Day 1 Boot Camp letters will be going home?? I am trying to follow all of this and Its a little overwhelming. Has anyone got a letter , box or call that has left on 5/18/16

  • didntcthiscoming

lovemysailor51816.   It is under Bootcamp day one. Here you go.1-1 Day:
    - Get blood drawn for special jobs (Nuke, Aircrew, EOD, Divers...etc). More tubes of blood, more tests.

    - Asked for allergies and if we are FFD (Fit For Duty).

    - DEP advancement test is taken today. If you are E-1 or E-2 and want to advance, you need to pass the PQS at your recruiter station AND this test. The test is 30 questions, multiple choices, and you cannot get more than 5 wrong to pass. It tests naval history, Rank and Recognition, Chain-of-Command, 11 General orders, etc... STUDY!!!

    - You will send a letter home with your address.

    - You will go to recruit receipts. Here you will take care of the rest of your service record. You will do your DDS (Direct Deposit), SGLI (Life Insurance) and receive your military ID.

    - Today you will also go to PT. This will be where you learn what exercises you will do during PT (Physical Training).
