Hi Jessica75, either nervous or tired. But that is great news, check into fed ex and see if you write a note to leave if they will sometimes they can do that. but if phone and other stuff enclosed I would receive in hand, with all the thieving with packages now a days. My boyfriend is leaving for BC today... said our goodbye and it was really, really tough. I'm definitely struggling and very scared, but trying to make the best of it.
sailorgirlfriend things will be fine, stay positive and busy. the first few weeks will seem like Eternity, but once the communication door opens time will fly bye. in the mean time google or look in hear for all information that pertains to your boyfriends rate/jobe where he may be going to A school, what will he being learning and maybe stationed when A school is done. anything you can find and learn about I gaurantee it will be more than he will know. if you need anything please reach out.
My son left for bootcamp Tuesday morning. We got the "I'm here" call. Was harder than expected. It was so quick and abrupt and I could hear drill sergeants yelling in the background. Broke my heart not to be able to talk longer with him and gauge how he is doing.
I'm doing everything I can to stay busy, pray, think positive and not worry - it works most of the time. My son shipped out on the 8th. I got the "I'm here" call and "the box". Everyone said as long as I didn't get a phone call by the end of the following week I could assume everything went well and he had passed his physical and was being assigned to a division. Wednesday - no call, Thursday - no call, Friday my phone rang. I did everything I could to answer the phone without crying. I heard my son's voice but it sounded different. He told me he was in the hospital with a high fever and pneumonia in both lungs. I tried my best to sound positive and encouraging telling him I was sure he was in good hands and that everything would be fine. I waited to cry until after I hung up. He called on Sunday to tell me he was being released from the hospital and was ordered on bed rest for three more days. He didn't know much else except his graduation would be delayed due to the hospital stay. His three days of bed rest should have been over yesterday. Now I have no idea if he has to start all over again or when he will take his physical tests. I think this will be his only chance to pass and having just recovered from double pneumonia I'm more nervous than ever. Not knowing is killing me! I don't know if I should expect a phone call or a letter or when anything might be happening. The waiting is brutal!
Dr. Von I am so sorry to hear this, praying for your Sons speedy recovery. Dr. Von we never want to ever think that this will happen, but being in BC comes many Challenges and being injured, sick, fractured is a hit or miss. You did everything right Ma'am here is a site you may want to read up on. Again we are here for you, so if you have any questions please do ask.
Ship 4 is also the RCU-Recruit Convalescent Unit-where sick or injured recruits go to heal and be cycled back into another TG. (See Recruit Convalescent Unit (RCU) and join RCU SHIP 04 DIV 2341 for more information.)
RCU: Recruit Convalescent Unit; where sick or injured recruits go to heal and be cycled back into another TG or to complete BC. Recruits who are moved to the RCU are generally able to make calls every other week (often on Saturday or Sunday), but those calls can be lost if someone in the division messes things up for the division or if the recruit made a call that week following a test or other appointment. Recruits who are sent to the RCU may spend a few days to several months there depending on how severe the condition is. Recruits in the RCU can continue studying and can take academic tests, but they cannot do any physical training and tests until they are declared FFD. Some recruits will rejoin their division or join another division, sometimes in their own TG or in a TG with a later PIR date. This happens most for those who spend 2 weeks or less in the RCU and most often for those who are sent to the RCU in the first few weeks after arriving at the RTC. Some recruits will continue with training when declared FFD either in the RCU or in FIT and then do the rest of training from there and go on to Battle Stations-21 (BST) and then to "A" School or training without PIR. See RecruitConvalescentUnit (RCU). If your recruit is sent here, join RCU SHIP 04 DIV 2341 for more information. Also see http://www.navy.mil/submit/display.asp?story_id=54872.
I am praying for all of our kids, and mom's that whatever is going on we may find comfort, healing, strength. Today is Thursday and I all know is that my son is on one of the ships, dont know the DIV, but think ship 2, my heart breaks reading some of the things that other mom's are going through. Waiting is hard, not knowing is even harder. Stay strong families Blessings all around.
Hello All! My son gets picked up on the 28th and leaves for be on the 29th. I’m trying to stay positive & encouraging, but my stomach is in knots, & my emotions are all over the place. I’m so proud of him, but I’m going to miss him so much!
Hi EliteLioness, is Your Son on his way to MEPS and Hotel Or on his way to BC. It will be hard the first couple of weeks and when you receive the Box you may again Break down, it is very Normal. I know I was a Mess for a few weeks. You will be fine you have so many here that will answer and encourage you. The big thing for me was to stay Busy. Google became my best friend, and I looked everything up I could. keep your Head up EliteLioness.
It was exactly one year today I felt the exact same. Like the wind was knocked out of me and I couldn’t catch a breathe. We are all in this together momma. It’s a sisterhood. It will get easier, we are all here for you. Saying some extra prayers for you right now.
EliteLioness, my son leaves tomorrow for the hotel and then Thursday for BC. I’m with you in the emotional rollercoaster. Everyone keeps telling me that I’ve done a great job with him and I should be so proud, which I ao truly am. But this mama’s heart is still feeling a little rough. I’m so grateful for this site and others moms who can relate and understand, not many people in my life do.
Ladies No one will understand until they go thru it. My Daughters thought I was crazxy for crying all the time. My husband to my Supervisor didnt understand me. But I kept busy and just thought No News is good News. Once the Communication is open then all will be fine and all the worry and stress will go away. But these few weeks will be hard. Let me tell you that all of this is a test. A test for them and us. The test for them is too see who will get depressed and who will break. Those will get weeded out to say. They must be able to cope with no Communication because there will be a time that they will have no communication if deployed, A test for us to see how we deal with it the same. I know it is hard or harsh but you have to look at it that way. You Ladies will be fine and never alone. Please come join Boot Camp Mom I help out there and if there is anything you need to know or talk about dont hesitate to reach out. My Son has been on his first Deployment already and I have been lucky to see him every 6 months so far. Trust and Believe and strength will carry you Ladies a long way!
Thank you so much for the encouraging words. It's been just a few days and I wonder how my recruit is doing, how hard it will be for him. There is so much to learn and read up on. I am very thankful for this support
These sites will give you much needed information as to when you will receive the Box with your Loved ones belongings and the form letter. it will also explain what will happen when they first get there. They will have long days training and learning. Please keep phones close so you receive the I'm here call.
Hang in there! My daughter shipped out on 5/8 - and it was so hard. She was so emotional and I found myself stuffing my emotions as to not make it harder for her...until of course that van pulled away with her in it. Last week we got our first letters and then Saturday morning much to our surprise, she called us and we got 37 mins on the phone with her! The strength they find is amazing! Write your SR everyday...I do that and it is therapeutic for me, and she said she loves getting my letters. I sent the first 3 in a priority envelope since it took a bit to get her address. Lean in to all that are here to support and get in on the great FB pages too. It helps to talk about our feelings. It's like grieving their childhood but rejoicing on their adulthood...such mixed emotions and when you feel like you need to cry - I say just do it!
Karen Great info, I say cry the same. and begin writing so when you do receive the form letter you can number them to see how he receives them the same.
Thank You Karen for sharing, that is what we do here we share we Encourage, we pray together and we keep all close for comfort!
Yes, pray, pray pray - that too! I numbered all my letters as well and I've done some of the fun surveys and she said the first one she got made her smile and giggle!
@Katie, I see that today is the day your daughter is shipping out. Just wanted you to know that I am thinking about you and said a little pray for strength. You have us here to support you - we are all here for one another. It's hard letting go... just wanted you to know someone was thinking about you.
Ladies have a Good Evening, and remember we are here for you all never hesitate to reach out. I leave you a Prayer.
Heavenly Father, I pray for all those that who are overwhelmed by stress and anxiety, I ask Lord that you give them perfect Peace and strength to overcome this challenge they are about to take with their Loved Ones, and to let know Lord that you will be right beside their Loved Ones at all times to lift them up in need and struggle. Thank You that we can give you all of our worries, and for our weaknesses May your strength be revealed in us . In your Name Sweet Jesus, AMEN!
My son was supposed to leave today but on the way to the recruiter he got a call that his coordinator had messed up on his dates and he leaves NEXT week. Glad to have another week with him but still frustrated, as I know he is.
Good Morning Ladies I hope this Wednesday finds you all well.
Mafe777 that is great news but bittersweet at the same time. If you all notice the pant legs are rolled up because they get fitted for shoes and dont have time to roll them down. fingers crossed for the Form letter soon!
Have a Great Day and please do not hesitate to reach out, I help out on Boot camp Moms you can now join that site.
Hi Heather, I went though the same thing just a few weeks ago. And was an emtional mess. Sometimes still a mess. Lol! It does get easier. Once you get his form letter and have a way of communication things seem to lighten up. Our SR has been there since May 8th. We got a phone call from him this past Sunday which was really great to hear his voice. Keep yourself busy and distracted and know, No News is good news. That one took me a few days. :) This community is so great and supportive and really great at cheering each SR on and praying for all. When our SR first left I spent a lot of time studying and reading through this sight. It really helped me. I hope you find some comfort in this knowing, that we have all been where you are and are here for you.
Hi Heather great News on the Box! next will be the form Letter. As Tabitha Mentioned it does, but you will have days where your Emotions will take over. I know it can be easier said than done, but you do have to keep your mind busy. Start writing letters and number them. the form letter usually takes 10 to fourteen business days, but remember things have changed a bit. on the 5th business day your SR. will do his Initial run and if he fails he will then get retested in 48 hrs so this also will play into when the form letter will be sent. here are some sites to read so you will know what happens ok.
EliteLioness that sometimes happens, but make sure you keep your phone near and have him to not let his cell phone die or he will not be able to call you with the I'm here call sometimes that happens then they dont have enough charge to be able to call and they do not have phones for them to call.
ElitLioness you are on top of it Good for you! it may be the wee hours but that is ok, please let me know how it went. tell him to get some sleep on the plane it will do him good, he will need it because when they get there it is going to be a long one. There is no sleep for the new recruits from arrival until TAPS the following evening when they are in a temporary Ship, the USS Pearl Harbor, where they sleep during Phase I or Processing (P-days) before moving to their permanent Ship. During Phase I, days begin around 4 am and end between 8 and 10 pm. (Read First 24 Hours for more in this article from the PAO.)
try not to beat yourself up, I’m so sorry that you didn’t get to hear his voice nor he hear yours. Saying a prayer of comfort and strength for both of you. Start writing him letters, I found writing my daughter helped me a lot and still does three weeks later, and know that he knows you love him and you are with him in spirit.
EliteLioness I'm so sorry you are feeling this way, do not continue to beat yourself up. this is going to be hard couple of weeks as it is. you were lucky enought o speak to him while at the airport and he knows you are his strength. The call is a little emotional but they are standing there while they are making the scripted call so a little nervous/scared over the phone is normal.. Please continue to keep your head up and think all positive things. Your Loved One will be fine and he gots this! I will keep you and your Son in my Prayers.
Good Morning to All, if there is anything that I can help out with please reach out to me. I help out on Boot Camp Moms so if your Loved one is now in BC please join the site. if there is some information that is needed and you cannot find or it hasnt been posted please reach out to me. Thank You and Have a Great Day!
My son's voice was a mixture of annoyance and fatigue. Don't worry - it's a very long day and they all sound that way! It's all part of the plan. Sorry you missed the call, but actually it's kind of nice that you have a recording of it! Sometimes we just have to find the positives.
Good Morning EliteLioness, I am so Happy that you are feeling so much better, Yes drained it will make you. I just wanted to stay in bed half the time. Start lookin up what he will be studying for his Job or trade, how long his classes will be. what I did was I started learning the Lingo. So when my Son called I knew what he was talking about and then I used some words of my own and shocked him, he's like Mom where did you learn all that, I said what kind of Mom would I be if I didnt know what you were talking about and how to talk myself, He laughed so hard. so that was pretty neat. I will put some sites down for you if you would like to look things up. check your my page in a bit. My prayers are with you and your Loved One the same. Have a Great Day and try to get some rest!
Oh my gosh! I'm so relieved, happy, thrilled, etc. My son shipped out on May 8th. I got the I'm here call and the box and waited for the call or form letter. I got a call on Friday the 8th telling me he was in the hospital with pnuemonia in both lungs and a high fever. I got another call on Sunday the 10th telling me he was being released but ordered to bed rest for three more days. Since then I had heard nothing. I cried and prayed every day trying to stay busy and think positive. Yesterday I was on a plane for a short trip and came home to a voice message that he has been assigned a division! That means he passed his physical test! I'm so incredibly happy and relieved. His graduation will now be July 20th, but I couldn't be happier! So, my questions are all about PIR. Where can I go for information about when, where, how long, etc.?
Can't thank you all enough for this supportive group! Our prayers for our loved ones and each other really make a difference!
Good Morning Dr. Von please come join Boot camp for Moms I help out on the site and I post PIR's and info on hotels and what not. I just posted some sites on there that would help for PIR, also if you Son will be flying out I also post information on that.
Sarge has also put this out, it is an updated guide for you all this is what he will go over at his meet and greet. has shortcuts and everything you will need to know.
PIR Day and Liberty weekend will give you info if your Loved One is flying out. But do know He/she will be the only ones who will have that information. so it is a must when you get that chance to please write it down.
Hi folks, I have a link that breaks down day to day of boot camp Talks about P-Days all the way to what they will be learning and tested on. Very detailed.
Just got our form letter today. It was so good to see his handwriting, even if there wasn't any personal note. And finally having his address means the world to us so we can finally start communicating with him. I heard we should send rechargeable phone cards right away so he can call when permitted. Should we also send stamps? And is it worth it to overnight the first couple letters just so he will start getting mail/support from home?

Heather, if you have not received a call from your recruit by the 10th calendar day after arrival (plus Memorial Day) saying that your recruit is being sent home, then your recruit has passed the initial run test of the PFA and has begun training or will be beginning training that day or soon after. See Arrival and What Happens at the RTC and Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) and Fitness Improvement Training (FIT).

try not to beat yourself up, I’m so sorry that you didn’t get to hear his voice nor he hear yours.
