This group is for N4M members that have a loved one leaving for bootcamp in June...I will leave the year open so that even future Deppers leaving in the month of June of any year can join...Lets share stories, information, concerns, and questions
Had my sons Suprise graduation/going away party yesterday. It was great seeing the look on his face seeing his closest family and friends there. Just makes it even more real that the countdown is on til he leaves June 12.
Thank you CrystoDad for correcting my spelling. I am learning.
Just a few days until he will be at MEPS preparing for Cardinal Navy Company, so technically gone from home, and then leaving for BC June 1st. While he is ready to get started, this Momma is feeling a little stressed and anxious in preparing for party and then him immediately leaving right after. So much to handle in a little amount of time. While I am glad that I can see him in the evening prior to, June 1st will be hard. Stock in Kleenex should have been purchase.
My daughter leaves from Amarillo June 12th. I am excited and proud of her. I am also emotional off and on. I know this will be hard, for all of us. She and her brother (13) are especially close. I am thankful for this site and look forward to learning a lot.
I'm right there with you NavyWildcat. My daughter is my first as well. It's pretty tough. I keep trying to remember the Navy will prepare her well for the task at hand. I am fine a lot of the time, but then I'm not. I will remember you on the 12th as well and keep you in my prayers.
How do we know what division or group our future sailors are in? Do they find out this information while at boot camp? Is it prearranged before they go?
1D4BoysNme, Division numbers are assigned when your then recruit arrives at the RTC. Your recruit will send home The Form Letter on his last day of P-days or first day of training. It will arrive an average of ten days after the recruit's arrival at the RTC. Some will have it 7 days after arrival (a few earlier than that, but not many) and most will have it by 14 days after arrival. It will tell you your recruit's address and PIR date and other important information. Keep it in a safe place.
LSUMom95...My son leaves on June 12 (also my baby... my only son/child). And he is also 22 lol. Hopefully they'll be put in the same division! Even as former Navy, this is way harder than it was ever sending him to college. I am proud, but going to miss him so! Definitely keep my posted!
My son swore in this morning... I've held it together mostly today. I cried more in the days leading up to him leaving. It feels so surreal! When did my little boy turn into a man?? Honestly I was more worried about him making his way through the airport than anything else! Haha! He did text me that he was at the USO lounge at Ohare and it woukd be his last text until I get "the call"... I was always told jot to wish time away but I'm wishing the next few weeks stay busy and feel like they flew by. lol
My youngest son leaves June 12th. My oldest son has been in the Navy for over 3 years now. You would think I would be more prepared, but I am not. My oldest is currently on a mission, so I can't talk to him for a while. I figured going through this a second time would not be as difficult since I know what to expect, but this is harder than I expected it to be. I've got my big girl panties on though and am being positive. I am having trouble finding prepaid calling cards for him though. Everything I find seems to be for cell phones instead of landlines. Has anyone found a prepaid calling card that works? If so, where did you pick it up? Thanks!
My son swore in Tuesday and arrived at boot camp yesterday! We got the phone call last night, now waiting for the address so I can send my daily letters to him
TrevMom my son went to San Diego Monday, he was allowed to be out no later than 10 pm, went to MEPS EARLY Tuesday morning for processing, then he swore in about 10am. Once he swore in, th n had a travel briefing which ended about 3pm, then he was droppped at hotel and was allowed leave until 10pm and then they were up early to go to airport Wednesday morning
If you have not yet joined Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones), now is a good time to do so (especially if you have a recruit at the RTC) and to begin checking out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) starting with OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile) (some of you have changes that you need to make--at least change 3; make change 4 if your profile pic includes your future Sailor or recruit) and then go on to Arrival and What Happens at the RTC.
I have left info on some of your My Pages about your future Sailor's (or recruit's) rating (job/occupational specialty) or field and "A" School. If anyone else needs this info, leave a comment on my My Page with the rating or field and I will comment back on your My Page. I have info on every rating and field. I also have that info for the PACT programs.
Everyone, Make it a habit to check your My Page because you may have comments from Members and not even know it if you have the notifications turned off for comments on your My Page. To reply to someone who leaves a comment on your My Page, click on "Comment Back" or "View Thread" below the comment. Also check in the upper left to see if you have Friend requests or any new messages in your Inbox.
1 hour til we leave to send our daughter off to MEPS for final swear in. Monday she flys out to boot camp to start her life. Very emotional this weekend for her dad and I. We are so proud of her. Now the waiting game for the box, letter over the next few weeks.
Ok he went to meps again on Sunday and he left this morning for boot camp.I tried not to cry so I excused myself so he wouldn't see me. OK let's do this moms
I just joined this group a few minutes ago. Our son is headed to boot camp, from St Louis, tomorrow, following swear in. I pray for the strength, not to break down, at the swear in. I didnt so so well, at the DEP swear in.
We just finished sorting through his clothes, shoes, toys, & electronics; keep/donate.
Now, we will close his local acct and open NFCU account.
Then, off to recruiting office for final visit, MEPS check in, dinner with us and final drop off.
We will drive back, in the morning for swear in prior to boot camp departure.
As all parents are, Im excited, proud and have my concerns for him, as well. He is our last child, so empty nesters we will be.
In a couple of months, I can support others who are where I am, now. Sigh.
Just got the call from my daughter 5 minutes ago. She was suppose to arrive at BC on Monday, but the plane was over 10 hrs late. So she arrived early this morning, tired and hungry.
My son left for bootcamp last wed, June 7 from California. I just received his box today. Even though I knew it was coming I was not prepared for the emotions when I opened his box. I keep watching the video I took of his swearing in ceremony. I cant wait until I can send my son the letters I've been writing and to hear his voice again. PIR cannot get here soon enough. <3
"Okay. Our sons got to BC this week. When do we find out their ship?"
The Form Letter with their mailing addresses and other important info usually shows up around 10 days after arrival at RTC, give or take a couple days.
The box with his civilian clothes, phone and other stuff he can't keep will arrive first, but unless he had the forethought to scribble a last minute note while on the bus don't expect anything more personal than the smell of his shoes.
Agree with G'sCBMOM,our son took only what could fit in thin wallet:
✔DL
✔SS Card
✔Debit Card
✔Prepaid Calling Card
✔A few stamps
✔Typed short list of immediate family addresses/phone numbers
✔Couple Bandaids
✔$10 cash (two 5 dollar bills)
He also took his Direct Deposit form (1199a I believe it's called) since he has a local bank. He will open acct with NFCU at later time.
The post G''CBMOM referred to was very helpful when trying to decide.
