Hello my name is Rubie and my fittest born just went to Boot camp today. I received the script I made it okay call. It made my night but now what am I to wait for. I already wrote one letter tonight even though he just left today. And it may sound crazy I know, but just like many mothers and fathers. I already miss my kid like crazy.
  • Mom from St Pete

My daughter left for Boot Camp on June 19th. I was told by her requirter her PIR date is 08-17-18. Anyone else's son or daughter leave on that day?  This is my 2nd child going into the Navy. As you can see by my picture my son went in. He went in Sept. 2010. Here I go again. Have to update my picture soon. That was his and my picture in Chicago on his weekend leave.

  • MommaV7

    Hi Mom from St Pete,
Mine left today and his recruiter also gave us a PIR date of 8-17. He should get to Chicago tonight. Looking forward to my call. I've been messaging him on the plane a little bit. So far I've held it together. We'll see how it goes when he calls.
  • MasterChief Jenny

Hi Mom from St Pete! My daughter/only child was supposed to have left on the 19th, but her flight out of Ohio was cancelled due to storms. I believe her graduation day is August 17th as well.
  • MasterChief Jenny

Let me clarify...her new flight left the next day. Ugh. I have such a hard time concentrating and it’s only been 2 days. I got the 15 second phone call yesterday. It was nice to hear her voice.
  • CanDo!Mom

My son arrived at bootcamp on 6/19 and we are calculating, if all goes well, that he will graduate on Aug 17th. We are just waiting to get the official letter.:-)

  • Noabre2025

My son left for MEPS today. He’ll fly to Chicago tomorrow sometime. I’m hoping he has a chance to let me know his flight info so I can have an idea of when to expect his “Ive arrived “ phone call. It hasn’t hit me yet that he’s gone. There’s so much going on this week to keep me busy, which I am grateful for. I’m equal parts proud and terrified.

  • Natmom

My daughter leaves Tuesday for MEPS and the flies out on Tuesday for BC. I told her to get a phone card for future calls. She said she was told they can't have one. Does anyone know if that is true?
  • Natmom

I meant to say flies out Wednesday.
  • MommaV7

@Natmom, they will need a calling card to call home during bc. The first "I'm safe. I have arrived" 15 sec call can be made from their cell phone before it is put in the box. They can buy a calling card in the NEX but it might be good to do it ahead of time so they know how to use it
  • Barbara

My daughter also leaves tomorrow and flies out Wednesday. We are leaving out of Miami. She is an A PACT under the new program. Her name is Jackie. I got her a prepaid phone card from Walgreens and activated it

  • Natmom

I will get her one before she leaves then. She is flying from Seattle. Her name is Nataushia.
  • Phoenixmom

Welcome Ladies to Navy Moms, make sure their cell phones stays charged because they have no phones for them to make the I'm here Call, also a book of stamps can be put in their wallet with the calling card and maybe some mole skin for blisters when they get fitted for their shoes. I will post some sites for you on your my page. Congrats to your New SR. (Seaman Recruit).

  • BrennyB

Has anyone whose recruit shipped June 11 received their form letter yet?

  • Noabre2025

Just got my phone call!! It was bittersweet. So good to hear my sons voice one more time but so hard knowing I won’t hear it again for awhile. I could not be more proud though.

  • Phoenixmom

Noabre2025 that is great news! was that the I'm here call? These weeks have been flying by, it will be here in no time! Keep your Head up all will be fine!

  • Noabre2025

Phoenixmom, yes, that was the I’m here call.

  • Phoenixmom

I'm Happy he made it fine, he will be in good hands, he will be working hard. here is a site to go to at the top click on recruits and it will show you what to expect and what they will be training on. if you have any questions let me know ok. Best wishes!

My son left 6-14, we rec'd the box 6-19, but still no form letter.  I know it should be 9-14 days after the box, but I'm getting restless!  Been holding up pretty good so far, but I'm ready to get the details and mail the letters we've already written.  The first few days flew by, but now as we approach the 2 week mark, time seems to be dragging. I'm so just ready to hear something!

  • Phoenixmom

Trenee that is understandable, you have to know the 5th business day they do their first Initial run if he/she didnt pass then they have to retest 48 hrs later so that comes into play also with the form letter being sent. here is a site to further explain and gives detail to the form letter.

Your recruit will send The Form Letter once Phase I is over and s/he has passed the first PFA and has officially been assigned to a ship and division. (See When to Expect Your Form Letter and  Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) and Fitness Improvement Training ... for more information.)

On about their fifth business day at the RTC, the new recruits are tested on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 7 seconds for female recruits. See Navy Sets New Physical Fitness Standard to Start Boot Camp. Those who pass continue with BC. Those who do not pass are moved to FIT and will be retested in 48 hours and must pass in order to continue at the RTC. See Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) and Fitness Improvement Training ... for more information.

  • Sofiegirl

    TRenee,

I’m in the same boat! My son left 6-14 and still waiting on the form letter. I’m ready to know his PIR date so we can book a hotel! I can’t wait to finally see him at graduation!!! He is my first born and he left only 3 weeks after graduation so it’s been really hard on me! But I know he is doing exactly what he wanted to do and that helps!

  • Phoenixmom

I know the feeling oh so much that you ladies are going thru, my son left a few weeks after High school graduation, he did sign up though as a  Jr. I thought I kew all I was suppose to know and actually that was not the case at all. My Son being the baby of the bunch (out of 3) it was hard letting him go, Me and My Bud are really really close, You know he has been in there a Year come July 5th and Ladies when I look back at how devestated I was, I have to say they will do so good for themselves. And as a Mother letting go has to be the Hardest thing ever, but it's not so much letting go it seeing them Grow. Your Loved Ones will be able to see so much of the world, My Son has been on his first Deployment already and is assigned to the USS Theodore Roosevelt. You will be so proud to follow them every step of the way! Your Loved Ones will be just fine, Once BC is over A school will whizz on by and the communication is totally open in A school.

  • lemonelephant

Several have asked me to clarify this.

The Form Letter now arrives 9 to 14 business days after the recruit's arrival at the RTC in most cases--some have it before that and there is a reason for that and there have been some who have gotten it after that, but it was mailed so that it should have arrived within the 9 to 14 business day window so the delay was a mail issue. I have been tracking the dates since the change. If a loved one does not have the form letter by 3 calendar weeks after the recruit's arrival and has not gotten a call to say that something has happened, then it is safe to get the address from the recruiter and mail letters to your recruit since your recruit is in his permanent ship at that time, but be sure to double-check the address against those at http://www.bootcamp.navy.mil/faq.html#contacting_recruits or Ship/Division--How it Works. Do not get the address from the recruiter before 3 calendar weeks after your recruit's arrival because the address the recruiter has will be based on the tentative division the recruit was assigned to upon arrival and that may or may not be correct.

  • Kyles Mom

Ok I will do a quick intro but I will be lurking...I am probably the 1st mom here for June of 2019...my son swore in a week ago and will be shipped off right (3 weeks) after his HS graduation on June 17th, 2019.  I married into a large military family but have had no personal experience with the military except watching my nieces and nephew (navy & army).  I am proud of him but so scared, he will be my 1st to fly the coop.  He got what he wanted and will be going in as an E2 (possibly E3) to AECF... I told my husband (former Marine) that I am not sure if a year long wait or a few days wait would have been better...I cry a lot when I think about him leaving, packing his room, not seeing him on holidays...Thank you all for your family members commitment to serve in our wonderful Navy

  • Navymom0971

Hello Kyle's mom!  All that you are feeling is very natural.  My son followed the same path.  The did JROTC for 4 years in high school and left 10 days after graduating.  I cried all year long but a lot more as time got closer.  I had a farewell party for him and at the party, I had note cards and envelopes for people to write a note to my son and I told them I would mail their notes to my son as soon as I got his address.  I did not pack his room until after he left.  You can think of his decision to go into the Navy knowing you have done a great job with raising him and when he has sworn in and gets to boot camp, the welfare of our country will be placed in his hands.  That is a reason to be very proud!!!  Enjoy every moment until he leaves!!!

  • Tre21

Got the box and form letter from my boy. He left June 12 and says his PIR date is August 10.  This is my second son to join the military and I feel like I'm having an easier time of it.

  • rhat562

My son left yesterday for boot camp and I just got the call he made it safely.  Now it's a waiting game for the box and the form letter.  This is also my second son to go through Navy boot camp and it seems a bit easier, almost 11 months to the day from the first son leaving.  Just remember ladies no news is good news is good news and send lots of letters of encouragement!

  • Barbara

My daughter left for BC on the 27th.  Let me just say that the "I arrived safely" call was the worst thing ever.  I would have rather gotten a text.  Looking forward to the next call with hopefully a better feel to it :(

  • Brenda

    Barbara,
I know exactly how you feel, My daughter left June 05 For BC, I waited all day for the call and finally received it at 10:00pm and I must say it was devastating. I was sick the rest of the night and a mess at work the next day. Barbara, I worked myself up so bad. I received my first letter a few weeks ago and my daughter said she was ok until she heard my voice.

She said it is such a shock when they get off that bus. My daughter said she felt so bad after that call, because she knew I would be so upset. So please don't fret like I did, I am sure she is doing ok. I just do not want anyone feeling that sadness I felt after that call. It is not as bad as you think..

    All the best,
    Brenda
  • Barbara

    Thanks for that Brenda ❤

  • Phoenixmom

So no need to be sorry or embarrassed. Come share and you will see many of us share the same experience.

  • Noabre2025

I got the box today! I wasn’t expecting it until maybe tomorrow or Monday since he just got there this past Monday night but fedex left it at my neighbors house earlier while I was at work. I’m just looking at it as one more “milestone” done until I see him at PIR.

  • 5xMom

I am here, I am safe... those words killed me because the sound of his voice was so defeated. I was in the Navy and went through what he is, even was at Great Lakes, but I am still so sad. I know he will be great, do an amazing job but I just miss him so much!

  • AZNavyMom00

Just got the box today! My son arrived at BC on 06/26. Now the waiting game continues for the form letter. What a rollercoaster of a week it's been.

  • AZNavyMom00

Barbara - I completely agree with you. The call was the worst, mine came at around 10 pm AZ time and after that I couldn't sleep.

  • 5xMom

My sailor reported in the 26th also! Your box came quick! Maybe mine will too!

  • Phoenixmom

    Great News Ladies!

  • AZNavyMom00

5xMom - Fingers crossed for you, I was really surprised to see it. I was figuring on Monday of next week.

I thought you all would get a laugh out of this...we have family dinner at a local restaurant every Friday night, we’ve been doing it for close to 2 years now. Tonight I get to dinner and there is a picture of my son taped to a chair so it would still feel like he was with us. (Thanks to my Mom) we all got a good laugh out of it and it did help make our  first family dinner without him a little less sad. There’s talk of “Flat Noah” making additional appearances, which will be photographed and reported to my son about in letters. Odd? Probably. But if you knew my family, this is totally something we would do. I was thankful for the laughs and I think my son will get a laugh out of it too.

  • BF2000

Noabre2025, too cute! I did get a good laugh from your story. Also I am a teacher and have done flat Stanley activities with my students. I so love the flat Noah idea. I'm sure the pictures of his sightings along with his letters will put a smile on his face. Love it, love it, love it!
  • Brenda

Noabre 2025- I think that is awesome, and, he will enjoy those pictures. I’m so glad you enjoyed your dinner and laughs with your family.

    Heads up!

Just got a phone call from my son. His PIR date is August 10th. Be aware that they are at the pay phones right now making calls.

    Lisa

  • Kerri

That’s great Lisa!!!! Thanks for the heads up! When did your son ship?

  • Tre21

My son shipped out on June 12.  This was a long call... not just the scripted "I'm here" call.  He's having a great time and is making friends.

  • CPATM2015

Hi everyone, my son arrived at BC on June 26th.  Today is 7/2 and the FedEx Guy just dropped off the box.  Ewww...dirty clothes...but so excited to get it!!  Now we wait for a form letter and a phone call.  This is my second time going through this and I am still anxious, nervous and excited.  Hope everyone is having a great day!
