This group is for N4M members that have a loved one leaving for bootcamp in Dec..I will leave the year open so that even future Deppers leaving in the month of Dec of any year can join...Lets share stories, information, concerns, and questions
My caller id said 847 also. My son left for BC on Dec 4th. I received his box 6 days after he left, and the form letter 8 days after he left, and a call 10 days after he left.
Kayla, calls can come any day between 8 am and 8 pm. Calls made on the day of a PIR or on Sunday coma between 1 pm and 8 pm CST, See Phone Cards and Phone Calls.
From what I have gathered, they do the form letter on a Sunday and they get mailed on Monday. A lot of whose kids went the week of December 4 received ours this past Thursday.
Yes, "the box" and the form letter come separately. "The box" arrives by FedEx and the form letter arrives by USPS. See Arrival and What Happens at the RTC.
arod13Navymom here got box from my sailor 3 days after she left. Just Got the letter with her address and to my surprise today I got a phone call. I am a happy mom and my husband is thrilled to have heard from her. We knew going in that we would not hear her voice until she graduated from experience with our son who was in the Army. My heart is all smiles today.
My daughter arrived on 12/10. I got the I Am Here call at 7:00pm CST that Tuesday, the box on Friday, and a Christmas card that she mailed me from O'Hare today (tears). I don't expect a call anytime soon but hoping to get the form letter early this week?
Laurajo, the average time to receive the form letter is 10 days after arrival, but some are taking more than 2 weeks right now. See Arrival and What Happens at the RTC.
Ladies.... I am starting to get concerned not wiorried just concerned about might be the hold up. My DIL arrived in Great Lakes on the 5th. We received her box the same day we got my sons.(6days after he left and 5 days after she left) I've already received his form letter but no one has heard from my DIL..... no form letter and no call since the 'I'm here" call. Has anyone else had a daughter arrive at the same time and you're still waiting also?
My son arrived on Dec 5th. We got the 'I'm here and ok' call that night and his box this week. We have NOT received his form letter, so we don't know his ship, division or PIR date. We also haven't gotten another call like so many others that left on the same day or even later. Could his division have gotten in trouble and therefore not be able to make calls? What's going on that others have received the information that a select few of us hasn't?
LOVEMYNAVYSON, My son left on the 10th. I've gotten the I'm ok phone call and the box. Patiently waiting for the form letter and another call. Time is crawling it seems. I miss him so much. Very proud of him though!!
My Daughter left on the 9th I got the call and her box I got her address from her Recruiter and her PIR Date is 2/7 she will be able to call in 2 wks I also have another Daughter in A School right now so I a little bit of a heads up on what will happen
Did you know there's a Facebook page called US Navy Recruit Training Command? Every week they have a Navy trivia question. Whoever is the first to answer correctly gets to request a photo of the Division their loved one is in & then they post it!
There are also photos on there from the most recent PIR in their fancy navy blue uniforms.
Hope you are all enjoying a restful Sunday. I'm hoping my son's box comes tomorrow! He was supposed to leave on Dec 11, but it got delayed until the 12th due to an airplane problem.
Our son arrived at BC a week ago, on Sunday, the 8th. We got "the 15 sec." call at 11:30 pm and it was simply, "Hi, Mom, I've arrived. Love and miss you. Box and letter will come soon. Bye." I could hear many other SRs, in the background, making similar calls to their family. We received the "box" this past Friday, which included his cell phone, and the "letter" on Saturday. PIR is 7 Feb '14. So glad we have an address now and can write to him. Hoping for a phone call today, but realize we may not get one. His Dad and I are missing him a lot - he's a great hugger and helper around the house too. Plus our dogs miss him - yes, I can tell! It just won't seem like Christmas w/o him. He was the one who always helped decorate the tree "just right" and helped Dad with the lights. He is also my Christmas shopping buddy. Washed all the clothing in the "box" last night. Going to tackle his room this week just to keep close to him and "help" him while he's away. The house seems incredibly quiet w/o him, even though we have another son at home. Our prayers go with him and with all the sons and daughters serving.
Didn't know anything about us being able to go to MEPs for the swearing in, or about this wonderful N4Ms website (until the day our son left for BC). We should've gone and met the recruiters 6 months ago, when our son first signed up. He said we didn't need to - don't listen to that - you'll miss out on all the info and preps in getting your recruit ready for BC.
N4Ms is so helpful and has all the answers to our endless questions. It helps us calm our nerves and ease our "worries". Thank you for this website and to all the Moms/Dads who support it.
Just got a call from my SR (Ship02 Div911). He has a head cold but sounded good. He's been on a night snow watch (not sure if that is the official title) and gets to shovel as needed from midnight to 2 am, or until finished. Guess I can't give him grief about not being home to shovel ;-). He said 40 days left and it is going fast. I told him it was fast for him, but not for us! Anyway, glad to hear his voice. He did say to all those who are still waiting for phone calls, be patient. 3 weeks is a normal wait for phone calls. He said his RDCs are pretty nice, so that may be why we have gotten calls already.
Remember, tonight is Vines that Bind. ( For more info, check out the events on the right side of the page.) Grab a glass, fill it with the beverage of choice, and know we are all together in spirit and here to support each other! Feel free to log on to the event if you want to chat...
roguevalgal, I found this site the day AFTER my son left for BC. So wish I would have found it sooner, but very glad I found it at all! Hang in there! (((hugs))) (cyber hugs from one momma to another)
DaniGirl695, um, as I am newer to all this, I didn't think about the chat or should it be in the event itself? If it is in the event, the comments will be easier to follow, but the chat will include more people. Thoughts?!?
a's momma lol im not sure i can see both ways happening... lol whats been done in the past?? i would say if the comments box is real time then we do it there because u r right easier to follow
The PAO has a weekly Trivia Tuesday contest on https://www.facebook.com/NavyRecruitTrainingCommand. This is an opportunity for you to win a photo of your recruit's division with your recruit front and center in the photo.
Thank you Christina. So your son arrived on the 4th and you got a call 10 days later! That is pretty exciting! About how long was the call? So maybe the recruiter might get information before we do! Maybe I'll give them a call! How do you feel now that you got a call?
Thank you, lovemynavyson. I can't believe you got the box 2 days later. Things could start happening any day now. Going to Church was difficult today! I can't believe that just a week ago he was there with us! It seems like a month has gone by since then. I love the pic of your dog!
1. The PAO at the RTC asks that loved ones wait on the form letter before mailing letters.
2. The recruiter does not always give the right address and letters that do not have the correct address may be returned or may be delayed several weeks in getting to your recruit since it will not be a high priority for those in the mail room to look up the correct information.
3. Even if you do have the correct information, your recruit will not receive letters that are mailed before receiving the form letter much quicker, if at all, than letters mailed after receiving the form letter because recruits do not receive mail until they are in their permanent ship and a Recruit Mail Petty Officer is trained. The first Mail Call is on day 1-3 or 1-4 DOT.
Thank you Lemonelephant. I was reading several comments about calls on Sunday. I thought it might be a more likely day? It's good to know it could be any day!
Foursons1angel, yes, calls can come on any day of the week. Remember that there are no PIR's the next 2 Fridays, so that will open up some times at the phone banks that would not normally be available. (See Phone Cards and Phone Calls.)
Yes I did get the address from the recruiter on Monday BUT there were a few things wrong on his address. So waiting for that Form letter is important. Hearing from him was bitter sweet because he was emotional but at the same time it was so nice to hear his voice. The phone call lasted 10 minutes before someone so hollered in the background for them to say goodbye.
Good morning everyone. I got another call my son on Saturday(my husband took the call). There was some information missing from his packet so we had to email it to him. He was able to give us his division number(090) but not the ship number. My husband said he sounded good so I'm happy for that. Looking forward to getting his box today, hopefully. He left on the 12th.
Jordansmom, Today has been a week for my son too. If your anything like me your thinking about him 24/7. Can't wait to get that first call so hoefully it will easy my mind.
My daughter is on Ship 14 Div 084 she left on the 9th and her PIR date is 2/7 still waiting on her 2 wk call got another week miss her like crazy guess I wasn't as ready as I thought I was to let her grow up she will be turning 20 in BC

Foursons1angel, yes, the recruiter may have the address, but wait on the form letter before sending any letters. See Letter Writing & Fun Stuff/Questionnaires to send to your Recruit.
Reasons to wait on the form letter:
3.
