This group is for N4M members that have a loved one leaving for bootcamp in Dec..I will leave the year open so that even future Deppers leaving in the month of Dec of any year can join...Lets share stories, information, concerns, and questions
Definitely going to the meet and greet!!! Are you all in the PIR02072014 TG13 chat group for our srs who are graduating that day ? Look it up in groups. Similar parents there woth 0207 grads
I am very familiar with Willis and Cypress. My brother's family is in the Cypress area. Last year when I was returning to the DFW area after spending Thanksgiving with my brother's family I was rear ended in a 5 car pileup in Willis. My car was towed to a repair shop in Willis. It was there for a couple of months being repaired.
Got "the box" today! My son arrived on the 11th. I was disappointed to see the address list, stamps, phone card PIN number list, and small bible returned. I wonder what happened there! It is so exciting to read all of your posts after you get your form letter and start making plans for graduation! I can't wait till that is me!
Foursons1angel, he may have decided that he didn't want to carry those things around in his "Valuables sock." Don't worry you can send all of those back, but he can get stamps, a phone card, and a New Testament/Psalms & Proverbs from the RTC. Send the address lest when you get the form letter so he will have it for letters.
I got the box today too. I had missed it on Saturday.. and He did not send me the charger for his phone, his shoes, or his drawstring backpack.. just his coat, sweatshirt and old hat, and a couple of reciepts for food..<grin>.. Now I just really want that letter! He arrived on the 11th, so I am going to check tomorrow with fingers crossed.
I got my box today! Tears came uncontrollably. I opened it right there at the post office. I ripped through that box like none other and I'm pretty sure folks in line thought I was a madwoman! I didn't care, I was glad I received it!! No letter inside just her things; IPod, shoes, socks, cell phone and charger. Whew! Now the wait begins for the letter!
Tamara, Is that for the 1-31-14 graduation? If so, go here http://navyformoms.com/group/pir01312014 for a group already formed for this purpose. There is the general chat and there is discussion forums for each ship so you can get to know people with recruits in the same ship.
I know the heartache you are feeling. I remember as if yesterday the depth of grief when the box arrived.
My sailor left for bc last year dec 11,2012. I remember what a comfort it was that previous moms came back to give a word of support and hope especially during the holidays.
It was soothing to include my son in festivities by making a sailor flat Stanley of him that could be posed in pictures. It gave our family a way to celebrate and grieve.
Thank you lemonelephant! I thought maybe he was being punished for something! The stamps etc. were in a small ziplock bag and I thought maybe that wasn't allowed. The "pocket" bible was kind of big so I wasn't surprised to see that. Also, thank you sailsetter for your comment. Everyone seemed so excited to get the box and I was upset and angry. I emptied the box put everything away and washed all the clothes!!! Also mamabear and Hurleygirl, I only found a receipt from subway and no note hidden anywhere and I had given him a little hint!
We got our son's box on Friday. No tennis shoes? I didn't think they could keep them - since they issue them to everyone?? Guess we'll find out why at some point. He took a small Bible and it wasn't in the box. So I assume they let him keep that. Also received the form letter with PIR info too. Now I hope he wrote a few letters on Sunday. Especially one to his Momma. Prayer and scripture (GOD) is sure helping me through this time. I thought I'd be a wreck, but HE has brought me peace. I know HE's watching over my boy. ;)
KJTsMomma, when did you get the form letter and when did your son arrive at BC? Did the letter come with the regular mail? My son arrived on the11th and we got the box yesterday.
Hi ladies! Quick question, for the SR's that left in December and are going to be there over the Holidays, I have been feed different info through the grape-vine that contradicts each other.....
Are these recruits (not participating in the Adopt a Sailor program) going to have a 2 week stand down? (stand down = facility run on a skeleton crew or essential personnel leaving some programs/services/training unavailable)
Is there anything special that is allowed via home package during this time? (If it does exist?) I am not sure about the stand down, could be, and I am...... pessimistically hopeful re: care packages from home.....
If anyone KNOWS accurate information on this, it would be appreciated!!! :)
Foursons1angel - my son arrived at GL on Monday, Dec. 9 (Late). Box arrived by Fed Ex on Friday, Dec. 13 and letter arrived the same day by USPS. That was earlier than I expected it.
NukeMom2013 - my son's recruiter said they may get Christmas day off, but nothing is for sure. Hope that my son will find something out about that soon and write or get an opportunity to call to let us know. Not holding my breath, but am saying a prayer that it works out. We are close enough to drive up to see him for the day. That is if he is one of those that get the day off. If not, we'll see him at PIR. :)
He arrived last Thursday 12/12 (a day late due to an airline issue). It's hard reading that most of you have already received your box. I just want to know that he's OK.
I am really glad that our middle son is arriving tonight, so I can have that to distract me! We are having our "family Christmas" on Saturday (without Alex). I think that will be a good time to have everyone write him a letter or a card in anticipation of having his address.
Your recruits will have holiday routine on Christmas Day. They will also enjoy a nice meal and the rules will be relaxed just a bit during the meal so that the recruits can enjoy a little down time with their shipmates. There will be very little, if any, training and nothing new. New Years Day will be treated much like a Saturday and there will be some training. See the info in What does ??? mean? (A Guide to Navy Abbreviations and Terminology) on holiday routine.
NukeMom2013, training continues at the RTC during the holiday stand-down. No new recruits will be received between last Friday and 5 January and the next PIR is 01/03/2014, which means that some activities will not be scheduled during those weeks, so they don't require full staff at the RTC. For example, BST staff is not needed until the last week of December and there are other trainings that no one would be having as well so those staff will be off. Other staff may be able to have time off in a few weeks as a result of the skipped weeks. Your recruit will have HOLD on Christmas Day and New Year's Day since those are federal holidays, but otherwise, your recruit will receive training on every weekday.
Tamara, Don't create a group for just one division. You have joined PIR 01/31/2014 TG 12 and there is a discussion within that group for Division 080 and its brother division, Division 079.
kinda stressing out... PIR is looking to cost me about 800.00 just for me i have checked links and all the tips and tricks and cant get it down unless i drive a small car in the snow and rick a shorter trip time... any thoughts or ideas?? thanks
I am looking for a mother who sons is on Ship 13 Div 079. She said her son was a Yeomen for his DIV. My son is also a Yeoman for that same DIV. I can not remember who it was. I might already be friends with them. I cant believe I forgot.
My son is so amazing. He arranged for roses to be sent to me before he left and so far I have received 2 roses on day two, 2 roses last week on week one and now today 2 more roses for two weeks. He also has included a special little note with each delivery.
Not as of yesterday. I'm still waiting and I'm anxious for it to get here already!!! It's hard to believe it has been a week. Miss him so much but I'm very proud of him!!
my brother in law lives in Rockford, IL so we will stay with him Thurs eve after the meet and greet. Then leave early from his house for PIR. It will save us some money that way at least
FINALLY got the box yesterday!!! It was a big box for the 4 things that were in there... shoes, cell phone, book & Navy ballcap. He must have trashed or donated all his clothes. No extra notes. But it was nice to see his handwriting on the box.

No, you cannot send a Christmas package to the RTC. Save that for after PIR. Letter Writing & Fun Stuff/Questionnaires to send to your Recruit gives info on the only present you can send while at the RTC.
