DEP-Leavin' for bootcamp in December

SOME who arrived on the 1st and 2nd (especially those with a contract for Special Ops) will have PIR on 01/23/2015 and others will have PIR on the 30th. It all depends on how the divisions formed.

Southwest allows you to change the flight without a fee.

Waiting for the form letter, he left Dec. 2nd. and I got his box three days later, so hopefully his form letter will come this week! 

I am happy happy! I got the form letter today! I had his letter (aka 'small novel') ready to go an made it to the Post Office with 5 minutes to spare. His PIR is Jan 23rd!

PIR: 01/23/2015 TG 11 (to be updated, contains at least Divisions 067-074 and Divisions 804 and 911) 4 guests (Divisions not confirmed by the RTC.)

I'm curious to see if there are any other moms out there from Oregon?? Anyway to find this out and maybe connect with some? :)

Just got the phone call.

Briana, Me too. I am working on my book as well. 

My son shipped today.  Everything went smooth.  We stayed at the hotel last evening and had supper with him then met him at MEPS this am.  Was able to talk to him from O'Hare for awhile then got the scripted call at about 8:00.  Very emotional.  I knew it would be hard but at the same time I am so proud. Can't wait to share stories with others in the same boat

My son leaves MEPS for Illinois in about 2 hours.  I will be waiting for his scripted phone call.  He is my first child to leave home and I had no idea my heart could hurt and grow so proud at the exact same time. 

I got my form letter his PIR is 01-23-15. I am ready to mail the book I have been writing. 

I feel very fortunate that I received my letter before my box.....well a couple hours anyway, six days after he left for boot camp.  Now I can't wait to hear his voice......

My son left today and his plane has landed. I am patiently waiting for my phone call. He has been texting me since he left.

My brother is at his hotel tonight and leaves tomorrow morning. i had to say bye to him last night since i had to work all day...

Spatran-you are in good company! My SR has been gone since the Dec1st and although I'm doing better-I think- something triggers tears every day. The first week was for sure the hardest. This group has helped so much!! I'm not sure if it is getting better-or if I am just getting used to it-lol

SSSSOOOOOO Ethan arrived at RTC yesterday.  He was texting me almost all day. The last I heard from him was 6:30 (his time)  I haven't gotten a phone call yet. Is this unusual? I'm not sure if he thought since he was texting me all day that the texts were enough. I hardly slept last night. I was waiting for the phone to ring. I am sure he is safe and all is well, I just wanted to hear his voice.  

My Son arrived at RTC Monday evening and I got the Scripted call at 10:29, a lot sooner than I thought .He was also texting me thru-out the day on Monday at the airport and also when he got to Great Lakes.We sure do miss him :(

My son arrived at bc about 7-7:30 pm and I got my call at 9:30pm last night. My son called when he got to the airport and when he was leaving to head to bc then I got the scripted call at 9:30. I hope you hear soon.

Since he had been texting you and keeping in contact he may have thought he didn't need to call or maybe he let someone else use his phone to call , maybe someone who didn't have a phone ? Just a thought. 

Maybe if he was texting you all day, his phone died.  Sometimes when I am out of my normal roaming area, my phone doesn't last as long as it normally does.  I hope you find out soon, Ethan's Mom!

Then you have to go with "No news is good news" because if he didn't show up or was sick, they would be contacting someone!  He's got to be fine.  :)

We got the form letter! Division 078. With the PIR January 30th 2015.

If you have not yet joined Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones), now is a good time to do so (especially since all of you have a recruit at the RTC or will tonight) and to begin checking out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) starting with OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile) (some of you have changes that you need to make--at least change 3) and Arrival and What Happens at the RTC.

Now that I know that his PIR is January 30th, how do I join that PIR group?

I received the box yesterday. Now waiting on the letter. I've heard that the letter can take up to 10 days. He left on Monday and I got the box just 3 days later! That was quick! So the letter could be sooner than 10 days. I've written a letter to my son and have it ready to send as soon as I get his letter! Will probably have several to send to him by then!

Amber, 3 business days is average for "the box" and 10 calendar days is average for The Form Letter, which means some get is sooner than that and some get it later, seldom more than 2 weeks after arrival.

My son is in Ship 13 Div 090 but I don't know his PIR, his recruiter called to give me his address.

Reasons to wait on The Form Letter:

1. The PAO at the RTC asks that loved ones wait on the form letter before mailing letters. See http://www.bootcamp.navy.mil/fam_guide.asp.

2. The recruiter does not always give the right address and letters that do not have the correct address may be returned or may be delayed several weeks in getting to your recruit since it will not be a high priority for those in the mail room to look up the correct information.

3. Even if you do have the correct information, your recruit will not receive letters that are mailed before receiving the form letter much quicker, if at all, than letters mailed after receiving the form letter because recruits do not receive mail until they are in their permanent ship and a Recruit Mail Petty Officer is trained. The first Mail Call is on day 1-3 or 1-4 DOT.

***If it has been at least 2 calendar weeks since your recruit arrived at the RTC and you don't have the form letter, then yes, it is fine to get the address from the recruiter and send letters. Double-check the info against that at http://bootcamp.navy.mil/contact_recruit.asp or Ship/Division--How it Works.

Michelle, PIR is most likely 02/06/2015 unless the 02/06/2015 TG is a small one, but wait on the form letter before sending mail and making reservations.

I have let ellen know that form letters have been received for the 02/06/2015 TG. If your recruit is in that TG, keep watching PIR 02/06/2015 TG 13 and join when it is up.

Has anyone with a recruit in Divisions 83 or 84 received a form letter? If so, what is the ship number and PIR date? Thanks.
