My son is leaving for BC in early December. Right now I'm just trying to do as many fun things with our family as possible. This is all he's ever wanted to do and he's so excited but I know it's going to be so hard to watch him go.
  • lemonelephant

If your future Sailor's ship date is after the middle of December, s/he will ship earlier than his/her current date due to the Navy Recruiting Holiday Stand-down, which is usually about a week before Christmas to just after New Year’s Day. There are about 3 weeks in December and into the first week of January when the RTC does not process in new recruits. See http://www.navycs.com/blogs/2011/10/14/the-voelker-rule. My expectation is that December ship dates will be 12/01/2015 through 12/10/2015. Recruits don't ship on Fridays.

  • lemonelephant

I have left info on many of your My Pages about your future Sailor's rating (job/specialty) and "A" School. If anyone else needs this info, leave a comment on my My Page with the rating or field and I will comment back on your My Page. I have info on all of the ratings and fields. I also have that info for the PACT programs.

  • ShellyEllyBoo

Well the wisdom teeth are out. It hasn't been a happy week as they had to go through bone to get to them but he will be so happy not to have this done later on at boot camp.
  • lemonelephant

If you have a future Sailor who is going to be in an 800 division, let me know in a comment on my My Page or in a PM (or comment in a friend request) and I will connect you with others with loved ones who will later be in the same division. DON'T openly post your future Sailor's contract or division number. Those with a future Sailor (or recruit) in a regular division or 900 division can post the division number and can post the contracted rating or field unless it is for one of the Spook ratings, but those with a loved one with a special ops contract should NEVER post that openly. See OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile) and 800 and 900 Divisions.

  • A's_momma_Erin

Just curious, what are Spook ratings? I'm sure it doesn't apply to my sailor or I would have heard about this by now since he graduates Prototype soon and has his orders to his duty station.
  • sailormom

My son is scheduled to leave December 8th but has signed to leave early, first available opening and his recruiter has told him he is first on the list.  He is ready to get started. We are incredibly proud of him but we sure will miss him and he is our only son so my husband is having a hard time and I imagine it will be much worse when he actually leaves.

  • lemonelephant

Erin, What does ??? mean? (A Guide to Navy Abbreviations and Terminology) includes that term and more.

No, your Sailor is not a Spook. Leave a comment on my My Page with his first duty station and I will give you groups.

  • middlemom

My son is scheduled to leave December 15th.  I can't believe this is happening.  He is so excited to go, me on the other hand is having a very hard time letting go.  I am so proud for him, but I will miss him so much.

  • Kirsten

    Leaving 12/3/15

He is so excited, I'm overwhelmed. Im so proud but to think about being separated from him just crushes me . I know I've got to be strong. Hopefully it will get easier with time.

My Son is leaving for bootcamp in December. I'm keeping a smile on my face so he wont know how worried I really am. He is the oldest of my three sons, and the first to join the Navy. I 'm very proud of him and I  know he'll be a great Sailor, but because he's my son I miss him already.

  • MirandasMem

My daughter just reclassified into Nuke and has a December 9 ship date.  I am trying to plan our winter out a bit ... is there a way to get an estimate of the PIR date?  I think it will be either Feb 12th or 19th.

  • Vickie360

My son shipped out last year on dec 2nd and had PIR on Jan 30th. He was in a "push" division in which they pushed them through quicker.
  • lemonelephant

It's not too early to check out the discussion, Things to Do in the Last Month before Your Future Sailor Leaves for..., and to start discussing some of the things there with your future Sailor such as how to handle bad news and who will be put on the Access List....

If you have not yet joined Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones), now is a good time to do so  and to begin checking out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) starting with OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile) (some of you have changes that you need to make--at least change 3; make change 4 if your profile pic includes your future Sailor) and then go on to Arrival and What Happens at the RTC.

  • lemonelephant

MirandasMem, by counting 9 Fridays, PIR is most likely 02/04/2016, but since she is shipping at the end of the week, it could be the week after if she has to wait on others and is placed in the next week's TG instead, which does happen around the holidays at times when more recruits ship. You will have to wait on The Form Letter to know the PIR date for sure. Arrival and What Happens at the RTC within Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) will let you know what will soon be happening and what to expect.

December is coming so fast, and my son will be off to boot camp. I don't know why but I'm so nervous, the whole family is going to come over to send him off.  Can anyone give me some ideas as to how much info. can be put on invitations for his going to" Boot Camp Party".

  • Belle Ship14 Division 079

Boy, there doesn't seem to be too many of us with kids shipping out in December. My son is scheduled to leave Dec 2nd from Northern California.

  • descanfvm

Our son is shipping out from So Cal on Dec 10. He's been waiting for this day since May. The days are going by quickly.

  • bahmom

My son is leaving December 15. Time is going by so fast!! He is leaving from SC.

  • Belle Ship14 Division 079

Hi Mom4Sailor...I agree, the days are going by so fast. My son leaves Dec 2nd and I only have 10 days left with him :(
My ex-husband and I rented a cabin in Lake Tahoe this weekend...some good family time with his brothers..playing games, making yummy family favorite dishes from his wishlist...savoring every moment we have left with him...
When does your daughter ship out?
  • Belle Ship14 Division 079

Hi Mom4Sailor. ..she really is your baby! This is my middle son. His older brother enlisted three years ago but was medically discharged during bootcamp with an ear issue, so I know what to expect somewhat but saying goodbye won't be any easier. It has been his lifelong dream to join the military and he is very excited to start his journey. It makes it a little hard to feel sorry for myself (lol)when he is lit up like a Christmas tree:)
I hope your daughter gets a flight buddy...with her being in DEP so long she should be flying with someone she knows somewhat, to ease the nervousness. The first of many unknowns for her for sure, but she sounds like an ambitious girl to be doing this so young.Enjoy your Thanksgiving with her:)
  • MirandasMem

My daughter will be shipping out on December 10th.  I believe there is a small group  of around 4 shipping out with her from Massachusetts.  We are all getting a bit anxious ... she is excited though and I'm happy for her.  Extended family is finally realizing that she will be leaving us so I'm managing that as well.

  • Gwizmom

My daughter ships December 15th from PA. She is he only one out of there recruitment office
  • Nik77

My son ships out 12/8 from Miami Florida... First time on this site... I've been getting different time frames as to how long is boot camp.... Can someone tell me pls
  • middlemom

My son is leaving December 15th.  Can't believe its almost here.  He signed up in June.  I have been ignoring the fact that hes about ready to go.

  • bahmom

Middlemom, my son is leaving Dec 15 also, time is flying by! I am so not ready for him to go.

  • Belle Ship14 Division 079

Hi Nicky Garcia..I think you count 9 Fridays to get an estimate of their graduation date or PIR, however this is just an estimate. You will receive a letter with the exact date of their PIR along with the number of people that may attend.
  • lemonelephant

To help with PERSEC, when a member's Username appears to contain their last name, only use their first name when commenting to them. Then when they change their Username their full name will not be in your posts to them. Thanks

  • lemonelephant

Yes, counting 9 Fridays after arrival will give the most likely PIR date. It could be the week before (more likely for one shipping on Monday or Tuesday) or the week after (more likely for one shipping on Wednesday or Thursday). It all depends how the divisions are filled. Arrival and What Happens at the RTC within Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) will let you know what will soon be happening and what to expect. You will know the PIR date for sure when you receive The Form Letter.

  • Lestersmom

My youngest son is leaving Dec 10. Middle son has been in USN since 2012, so I am a bit familiar with the process, but when it's your baby, it's still tough! And while his original date was Feb 15, they offered this date and he accepted it.I wish he waited, but it's his choice...

I really didn't want to travel to Chicago in Feb (he says PIR should be around Feb 4, 2016) brrrr

Since he was accepted into the Nuke program, I have some questions/concerns about that. Son says he'll be fine, but I heard there is a success rate of 15%. Middle son says he'll have to pay any bonus back and/or lose rank.

I have to tie son down to get him to make me POA and signer on his bank account.

  • lemonelephant

Lestermom, by counting 9 Fridays, PIR will most likely be 02/05/2016, but since he is shipping at the end of the week, 02/12/2016 is also possible.

I have left info on your My Page about NF and more.

  • Alisha

Hello- another nervous mother, here. We will be sending our son off to basic training on the 3rd.

Im reading through all of your posts, searching for others with the same date, and absorbing what you all have shared.

God bless, and thank you all gor sharing.
  • Alisha

@ mom4sailor. Hi, my name is Alisha and our kids are both leaving the same day, and have January birthdates.

Today, we celebrated Christmas. Im feeling what you're feeling.

    God Bless!

  • Belle Ship14 Division 079

Hi Tracy21...my son leaves on Dec2nd also. It is not an exact science because it just depends on how the training groups are filled up. From what I've read, with our kids leaving on a Wednesday (and those arriving on Thursday too) could more likely be the later date in February. We will get the form letter about a week in, with the expected date, but should something happen, like not passing a test or an injury, the date could be delayed anyway.I think just planning it to be either of those weeks is the best we can do at this point. I plan on booking my tickets for PIR on Southwest,so if the flights need to be changed, I won't have to pay change fees.
    I hope that helped.
  • Belle Ship14 Division 079

Hi Mom4Sailor. .it sounds like you are making the most of every moment with your baby girl!I am trying to as well, but there is a newer girlfriend (3 or 4 months)standing in the way :(
Two days left..my heart is breaking
  • kerbear2709

This is my last week with my hubs. We meet the recruiter Sunday, then he heads to BC on Monday, the 7th. It hasn't sunk in yet, guess Sunday night it will. Counting down the days now until we are together again, instead of until the end of DEP.

  • lemonelephant

Tracy, yes, 01/29/2016 is the most likely date for her PIR. 02/05/2016 is also possible since she is shipping at the end of the week. See Arrival and What Happens at the RTC.

  • Akmomto3

Hi all. My oldest is leaving two weeks from now. Getting excited for her and scared for me. So much to take in. I've been an army wife for 18 years so I kinda know the ropes but this is so different since it's my child. Anyone else's future sailor leaving on the 14th?
  • maj1206ster

My son leaves Dec 8th!  Glad to read that so many others have the same box of emotions I do!  He is my oldest but still my baby boy!

  • Belle Ship14 Division 079

Today is the day...I will be driving my son to the recruiter's office and the recruits will all drive together to the hotel. He gets to leave the hotel from 3-8pm, so I am going to grab him and we are going to do a little xmas shopping so he can surprise his brothers with presents on xmas day.His dad and brothers will meet up with us for a fondue dinner...something different and leisurely. But then it's back to the hotel to watch my sons say goodbye to each other, which will be the most heart wrenching part of this. They are soooo close! Oh God...give me strength. He is being so stoic...staying in the present moment, enjoying all that it has to offer. I am comforted by the fact that his best friend will be by his side as he travels to RTC...he enlisted shortly after my son and they happen to be shipping on the same day.
  • middlemom

2 more weeks and my son leaves for boot camp.  I am a mess. All I do is cry when I think about it.

  • amj510

My son leaves on Monday Dec 7th.  I am struggling everyday.  I am not sure how I prepare for Monday.  He is my only child.  I am so proud of him but this is harder than I ever imagined.  Praying for strength everyday.

  • Nik77

My first born will ship out 12/8... He's my first child never been away from him longer than 3 days.. Praying that God gives me strength to be there for him... He is beyond ready and excited... Any moms planning to go say goodbyes at the airport as well? Or should I have closure at the meps station?
  • Kellis

Mine leaves shortly. He just went through the check point. We waited with him at the air port. It has been an emotional day.
  • Heather

I heard from my recruit at 8:45pm, he arrived. It was a long day for him.

  • Kellis

Mine arrived about an hour ago. Now time to take the bus to the RTC. I'm sure it will be a long night for them.
  • Beach runner

My son took his oath of enlistment this morning. Lots of emotions. I feel drained and elated at the same time. I can only imaging how he feels. He has made us proud before but now more than ever. The support of family and friends mean the world to us and to him. People already thanking him for his decision  to  serve.
