Just received a phone call that my son arrived too. So many emotions these last few days as my son starts this new journey. I'm proud and sad all at the same time.
  • Belle Ship14 Division 079

Mom4Sailor. ..so happy to hear your daughter's flight went well. My son arrived last night and he sounded good. Tuesday was horrible with all the goodbyes. He seemed really shut down, but was back to normal in the morning at the swearing in ceremony...bright eyed and excited. We shared some fun exchanges thru text while he traveled and that really helped me feel better. And instead of a sad goodbye during the scripted call, we put the phone on speaker and all started screaming well wishes and encouraging words...made him laugh and I think we all needed that moment of lightness to finish out this extremely emotional journey.

Our son is leaving a week from today, on Dec 10th. Counting 9 Fridays from Dec 11 would be Feb 12. Is this correct for his PIR date?

He's been working and waiting for this day for over 2 years. So proud of him!!

  • Cherie Ship 12 Div 082

My son just left today.  I am so proud of him and yet so sad.  Thank God for this site!

  • Bryansmom711

My son left December 1st as well .. Can't wait to find out the address to start sending my letters .. Wish we could see him for Christmas but this is the first steps into adulthood glad he chose this path and a great foundation is being layed ..:)
  • Belle Ship14 Division 079

Mom4Sailor. .for some reason your post to me disappeared..mmm..anyhow, glad you packed up the camper and can get away for a few days and not see the empty bedroom...all I can say is, this is really hard..sniff sniff. I haven't heard anything about a break at xmas..I hope they were right and we will maybe have a little more communication from them during the holidays..that would be the best present ever!

If your son or daughter shipped the 1st, they have had sleep at this point. My son's friend (who already graduated) has broken things down for us and told us what happens the first 48 hours and first week. My son loved his sleep too so I'm sure that was the hardest part for him!
  • Kellis

    Mom4Sailor I sent you a friend request
  • Kellis

    I sent again!
  • lemonelephant

If you have a future Sailor who is going to be in an 800 division, let me know in a comment on my My Page or in a PM (or comment in a friend request) and I will connect you with others with loved ones who will later be in the same division. DON'T openly post your future Sailor's contract or division number. Those with a future Sailor (or recruit) in a regular division or 900 division can post the division number and can post the contracted rating or field unless it is for one of the Spook ratings, but those with a loved one with a special ops contract should NEVER post that openly. See OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile) and 800 and 900 Divisions.

  • lemonelephant

If your future Sailor has yet to ship, be sure to check out the discussion, Things to Do in the Last Month before Your Future Sailor Leaves for....

If you have not yet joined Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones), now is a good time to do so (especially if you have a recruit at the RTC) and to begin checking out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) starting with OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile) (some of you have changes that you need to make--at least change 3; make change 4 if your profile pic includes your future Sailor or recruit) and then go on to Arrival and What Happens at the RTC.

descanfvm, by counting 9 Fridays, for one who ships on 12/10/2015, PIR is most likely 02/05/2016. 02/12/2016 is also possible depending on how many recruits ship that week. You count every Friday, including the first one.

  • lemonelephant

Those who ship this week will most likely have PIR on 02/05/2016. Some who ship on Monday and Tuesday will have PIR 01/29/2016 if they are placed in one of the last divisions from last week's TG and are in Push divisions while others who ship on the same days will have PIR on 02/05/2016. Those who ship on Wednesday and Thursday will most likely have PIR on 02/05/2016, but if there are many recruits who ship, which is possible due to ship dates getting moved up, then 02/12/2016 is a possibility for some.

  • Cherie Ship 12 Div 082

For someone who shipped on 12/3 is the potential PIR date 1/29?

  • Lestersmom

suggestions on phone cards? Pingo? PennyTalk?

  • Kellis

We got the form letter today! His PIR is 1/22! We were figuring the 29th or even 2/5 so I'm so excited it's a whole week earlier!
  • lemonelephant

Kellis, your recruit is in a Push Division and is in one of the last divisions in the TG.

  • lemonelephant

Mom4Sailor, the delays sometimes do happen, but they do not happen during training, but in P-days. All recruits have 6 weeks of training, so there are built in down days, so the holidays do not affect when PIR is. Nine Fridays is still the most likely for one shipping at the end of the week as yours did. I expect your recruit to have PIR on 01/29/2016.

  • Elizabeth

Hello everyone! My fiancé arrived in GL on Thursday night, I'm assuming they started P-1 on Friday? Does anyone else have recruits that arrived on Thirsday night?
  • Cherie Ship 12 Div 082

So if my recruit left on 12/3 is 1/29 a safe assumption for PIR or might it be 2/5?

  • lemonelephant

Cherie, yes, I would say 01/29/2016 is the most likely especially since they were still filling the TG from the week before on Monday and Tuesday.

  • Cherie Ship 12 Div 082

    Thank you!!!!

  • Kellis

Lemonelephant, what is a Push division?
  • lemonelephant

Kellis, the Page, What does ??? mean? (A Guide to Navy Abbreviations and Terminology), will help you with that and with many of the new terms you will come across.

  • lemonelephant

We are on the last stretch of my son being home.  He leaves December 14th for boot camp  Trying to figure out when graduation will be.  Do they take time off for Christmas or New Years.

  • Lestersmom

Middlemom - the short answer is 'no' for time off during the holidays.

  • Bryansmom711

Did anyone else that that had someone ship out on dec.1st receive a form letter? I seen one mother did but was wondering if she was the only one.. I called his recruiter but he never gets back with me lol
  • Nik77

Just let go of my sons hand... He's of to flying on his own from here on out... So proud of him! I'm sure he will
Push hard and make it through BC.... Now I'm just wondering when PIR will be ... The count down has officially begun...
  • Nik77

Any other moms that shipped out kids today?
  • Cherie Ship 12 Div 082

My son shipped on Dec 3rd - so far we got the "call", today we received the "box" and now we await the form letter to come in a couple of weeks.  From what I can tell from the amazing post on here that patience is a virtue!

  • mykidsmom4

My son left today as well

  • MirandasMem

We are counting down.  Helping her pack and organize today, tomorrow taking her to MEPS for Thursday ship.  I keep rolling around the actual event, sort of in denial mode.  I already did one transition two years ago when I took her to college and now another.  This feels so much harder.

  • Cherie Ship 12 Div 082

Mom4Sailor - I agree.  Getting the box today was really awesome for that exact reason - 1 day and 1 step closer!!!

  • descanfvm

MirandasMem, We are doing the same with our son, actually he's packed, is labling the boxes he is leaving behind. He goes to his recruiter tomorrow morning, then down to MEPS, overnight at the hotel, Then SHips out on Thursday. He's excited, but nervous. Hard to believe this day is finally here.

  • Mallorie's Mom

I have not received a form letter, is that when I'll know what division she is in and all that info?

  • jodil

Fed Ex came to my house today too.  :)

  • Dayna

I received the box yesterday and the form letter today! Super excited to finally have an address! I already went and mailed 3 cards!
  • Elizabeth

I just received the box as well! I cannot wait to get the form letter.
  • Belle Ship14 Division 079

FedEx came by but the brothers didn't hear the doorbell, I guess! They will be delivering it tomorrow. So happy for the moms who got to open boxes today...1 day closer!

My son shipped out yesterday.  We drove him to MEPS the night before and spent the evening with him until it was time for him to go to his room.  Then met him at MEPS to watch him swear in that final time and last hugs and "see ya laters".  It was an incredibly difficult two days.  Not because we aren't enormously proud of him, just hard because we will miss him so very much.  His arrived in Chicago at 4pm Chicago time and at 9pm we got the scripted, brief phone call "I've safely arrived at boot camp.  You will receive a box in a few days and a letter with contact information.  I will call again in 3 weeks. Click."  He sounded pretty robotic and very tired.  We all yelled into the phone how much we love him and then it was over.  For all of you who have not yet seen your children off, this site is extremely helpful and I'd encourage you to read everything you can get your hands on.  We were well prepared for the sequence of events and I think we sent him pretty well prepared too.  We are now truly a part of the Navy family.  Godspeed everyone!

  • MichaelsMom2

FedEx came and yes his pants were rolled up his phone shoes and everything else where there... my son my soon to be sailor...yeah baby!!! boy do i miss this kid sooo much!!

  • KimR128

My son shipped out on December 2nd. His fathers it his box of clothes yesterday. We haven't got a form letter yet or heard from him. Anyone else have someone ship out on 2nd who has received their letter?
  • Elizabeth

My fiancé left on the 2nd arrived late Thursday (3rd.) I received his box yesterday, no form letter yet.
  • Belle Ship14 Division 079

Hi KimR128..my son left on the 2nd...did get his box but no form letter yet...stalking the mailbox!
  • middlemom

Just talked to the recruiter.  it's on now.  Feeling very weepy now.  He told me that as of December 15th my son will belong to the Navy.  I knew this was day was coming, but it was hard to hear. Going to spend the next days with him.  Even took off work Friday, Monday and Tuesday.

  • kerbear2709

My husband left on Monday, December 7. I received his box today. Still waiting on the letter so I can begin my countdown.

  • Bryansmom711

My son shipped out December 1st. Got his box Friday but no form letter:( I had seen a few other moms with same ship date had already gotten the letter so now I am anxiously waiting for mine.. Any one else with that ship date not get the form letter either ? I guess tomorrow would be 10 full days right?!
  • Elizabeth

No, Mom4Sailor, I have not received a form letter yet from my recruit that arrived to GL on the 3rd
