I got a call from my son at 12:30 est, it was about 30 seconds and he sounded very tired!
  • bahmom

My son shipped 12/15. He landed about 630 and I got the call about 10. He sounded very tired. I made sure to tell him how much I love him and how proud I am of him.

Finally got the form letter! Graduation is 1/29!
  • Momma Bear

Finally got my letter today! He shipped 12/7, PIR 2/5/16. YAY!!! Now to make my travel arrangements!
  • proudmom

My son left 12/15. I got the box today! So happy it was so quick !
  • Carly

Mine left 12/15 and got his box today. His cell phone was sent back too!!
  • rgmac4

I'm jealous, my son left on 12/15 was hoping for his box today.

  • proudmom

My son cellphone was in Hus box also. So was his watch. I didn't know he couldn't have a watch
  • Kellis

In think it depends on the type of watch. My son was able to keep his. Don't know if he's wearing it or not though.
  • rgmac4

Looks to me that shipping fedex to the east coast from Chicago goes faster than shipping to the West....Hoping my sons box comes tomorrow or Monday!

  • lemonelephant

proudmom, he may have been able to keep the watch, but sent it back when instructed to put EVERYTHING in "the box" because some don't know what they are permitted to keep.

    Cell phones are sent back.

  • rgmac4

Well I missed my box :-( I had a door hanger on my door when I got home from work. Now I'm paranoid I'm going to miss it next delivery, might have to make a road trip to pick it up at the fed ex office an hour away .... Missed the delivery by 6 mins
  • Akmomto3

My daughter shipped 12/14 (got there the 15th) and I had the FedEx note on the door. I'm sure it was her box. Urghh I figured it would be today as my dh wouldn't be home. Do they deliver on Saturdays?
  • beautzer

My son left Monday and his box came last night
  • rgmac4

I'm hoping they deliver on Saturday, but according to FedEx the next delivery attempt will be Monday....I'm trying to keep myself from driving an hour to pick it up on very little sleep.

  • rgmac4

FedEx is delivering today, my box is on the fedex truck out for delivery! I signed the paper for them to leave it on my door step, hopefully they won't come until I'm home from work

  • NYmomof2

Most of the time Fedex do not make any deliveries on Saturdays but they have some locations, which are open on Satursays from morning till 6 or 7 pm, just need to call by the phone listed on a hanger. Also its enough just sign this paper, they need just a formal signature and put it back on a door with instructions where to leave a box. I did the same when I missed the first delivery of my sons box because of work. It was delivered right on the next day and left at the place instructed on the paper.
  • Akmomto3

I just called and they won't redeliver until Monday. Loretta, our girls might be in the same division. :)
I bought a few cards for her already to send once I get the address. It was not an easy task to find a Christmas card without glitter!!! Geez, never noticed that. However the card will be late I'm sure. It's so weird not to get texts or phone calls from her every day. I'm grateful to have found this site to I don't feel alone in this. Her dad is not much of help when it comes to the emotional part as he's a retiree and kind of tough that way.
  • rgmac4

I got my box!!! I saw the FedEx truck and stopped and asked him if he had my package and he did!! I was sad to see his stuff but glad it made it safely back home!

  • Akmomto3

Dogs started barking, doorbell... The FedEx lady just stopped and brought the box!! So excited and sad. surpised that she even had to put her tooth brush in the box.
  • lemonelephant

Akmomto3, another mile marker down on this journey. She will get a new toothbrush.

  • Gwizmom

Any chance we will get to visit our daughter on dec 25th she shipped dec. 15th?
  • lemonelephant

Gwizmom, recruits cannot have visitors, so no, you cannot visit her. She will have PIR on 02/05/2016, so she will not be in one of the two TG's that will be part of the Adopt-a-Sailor program. Don't count on a call either, but it could happen. Have your phone available EVERY day between 8 am and 8 pm Central time and don't expect a call, but be pleasantly surprised when you receive a call. Phone Cards and Phone Calls will tell you more about calls and will even tell you some times you can relax and know that you will most likely not receive a call.

  • Mamafig

I'm waiting for my letter. Hopefully I get it Monday.  I'm anxious to know where I can send him letters.  But mostly I'm excited for him finally beginning his journey.

  • Carly

Lemonelephant, my son left on 12/15 and we were told he would be a part of adopt a sailor since he's there over Christmas. Why are you saying they will not be part of this?
  • Akmomto3

I'm a new navy mom but I was an army wife for 19 years so I'm not new to the military ways. I couldn't imagine going through this not knowing the ropes like a lot of you are doing right now. I know that these are all our babies, and for some even spouses but now that they have enlisted, they belong to the Navy. They are there to be prepared for their duty. Everything happens to prepare them for that. I have spent many holidays and special occasions apart from my husband and no, he couldn't call or I couldn't visit him. Just know that they are safe and being taken care of. Military life is very different and it's something to get used to. Hang in there everyone. Soon enough we will start receiving letters, phone calls and then we will get to wrap our arms around them and tell them how proud we are of them. I hope this doesn't sound harsh, I'm rooting for all of our future sailors.
  • Carly

His recruiter told us he would be with a sponsor family during the holidays!! They say anything to make it sound better!!
  • lemonelephant

Carly, it would be nice if recruiters actually paid attention to info put out by the RTC and then they could pass on accurate and current info instead of info that is neither. It would save a lot of headaches for many.

  • jmom

Loretta, I've been crying happy tears for 2 weeks!!! Her birthday was yesterday cries even more!

Both my sons went through BC over the holidays. No, there's no visits and no adopt-a-sailor for new recruits. Your recruit will be fine, and so will you! If you're new to the military, go buy a long burning blue candle and light it for the holiday. Every time you look at it, send thoughts of strength, warmth and your love. Then think of a happy or silly memory. Write it down. Send all those happy thoughts in your next letter!

  • lemonelephant

For those unfamiliar with the blue candle tradition, see Blue Candles.
