This group is for N4M members that have a loved one leaving for bootcamp in Dec..I will leave the year open so that even future Deppers leaving in the month of Dec of any year can join...Lets share stories, information, concerns, and questions
mykidsmom4, thank you for your encouraging message. Many of us are in stage one of this journey, and it helps to see how the future goes and to look forward to more contact :)
Received the Box 12/19/16 did not open it yet. :( I will tonight, when it's quiet. Looking forward to the letter now. Could someone tell me if they are allowed to receive something other than cards and letters? Like a tin of cookies?
I can finally say we have another SAILOR. Our second son FINALLY made it through. His original ship out date was July 19th, 2016 but was delayed 4 months. He finally left Dec. 5th. He graduated this past Friday. He is SO HAPPY- finally.
Thank you admins, esp lemonelephant, for always answering my questions, even when I should have just searched the site... Im making room for future members. Im still on NavyFor Moms but now that I have a submariner and a SPACT apprentice... no need for DEP. Thank you all, God Bless and Fair winds and following seas to your Sailors!
I'm following in fayegirrl4's footsteps...I can PROUDLY say I HAVE AN UNITED STATES NAVY SAILOR and I am one PROUD NAVY MOMMA!! Thank you to all on here for support and admins for always answering us DEP/Boot Camp parents questions or setting our minds at ease. For those who are waiting to ship or just arrived at RTC, find a group on here or Facebook to talk with, trust me IT HELPS!! My family and friends couldn't understand what I was going through but the people in these groups could. They were a life saver. There will be rough times but trust me when I tell you....seeing that big door open up at 0920 makes it all worth it. My son loves it and doesn't regret a moment. The bonds he made at boot camp were as close as those with friends at home, and that's how I feel about the people I've met in these groups. You will laugh, cheer and yes cry together. We're all one big family, NAVY FAMILY! Fair Winds and Following Seas to all! HOOYAH!
I have left info on some of your My Pages about your future Sailor's rating (job/occupational specialty) or field and "A" School. If anyone else needs this info, leave a comment on my My Page with the rating or field and I will comment back on your My Page. I have info on every rating and field. I also have that info for the PACT programs.
Hi all! I have a question for the ones who were in the dating stage when your sailor left for bootcamp. Did they distance themselves when bootcamp got closer? My boyfriend told me the other day he needed some time apart, because he's going to be so busy with work, working everyday and getting home wanting to go straight to sleep. He said he didn't want it to seem like he wasn't making time for me. I can't help but think that maybe since he leaves in December, he's getting a little anxious and distancing himself to make leaving easier? I don't know, we haven't talked since Friday and I miss him a lot.
Mine left on Dec. 6th 3 years ago - it's not easy, but you make it through - keep your eyes open for pictures on Facebook near Christmas - they took lots of pics and seeing them all including one of my son really helped :)
AggieBeast1999 it is a hard transition, and I don't think us Mothers can prepare ourselves any more than what we feel we do already. It's something about them just going away. My daughters have their own places but they are near, but when they leave to another part Ugh! that's when it really hits. I completely understand. Just know your Loved one will be fine and in good hands. Be encouraging and strong for him, BC is Hard, they may be mentally prepared but yet don't know what to expect and then that is when it hits them, I know my son second guessed himself and I had to shut that down, and I had to let him know BC is hard for a reason because they will weed out the weak, but stay focused and strong, determined and all will pass. AggieBeast1999 you will be fine, and we all are here for you, take it one day at a time. Have a Great Day
Good Morning Ladies, how are all you Holding up this Cloudy Friday, it is very unusual for us here in Phoenix, AZ but nice!
AggieBeast1999 you are very welcome.
Glad to see the New Comers here on this site Welcome, Hope you all have a Fabulous Friday, and please any Concerns, Questions just post their is always someone who can answer those for you. Have a Great Day!
Really? My son was originally supposed to leave in July, but due to a few mishaps and another leave date that's been pushed back, he is now scheduled to leave Dec 11. I'm anxious for him to get started on his journey, but now that it's less than 3 weeks out I am starting to realize he will be gone. I just pray that nothing else will get in the way of him going and get started on his fantastic journey!

Thank you Phoenixmom. We are taking all the time we can with him now and will cherish Thanksgiving much more as this will be the last holiday of "normal". Christmas will be horrible! I'm just not ready to let go of him. We were talking last night and he is of course nervous but I think he's ready to get it started. He was supposed to go in August but he got a hand wound that needed surgery. I wish boot camp was just already over! At least when he goes to school I will be able to facetime or skype him and at least "see" and talk to him.
I know how hard it can be to let one's Son/Daughter go, My son is the Baby of the family went in right after Graduation July 5th to be exact he is 18 yrs old. I knew for awhile this is what he was wanting in fact junior year he enlisted and I had to sign the papers. The day he was sworn in he stood so proud and I was so proud knowing that this Journey he was about to take was what he really wanted. let me tell you I felt so lost without him we were best buddies still are. these 8-9 weeks were the hardest. But as I began to read on everything my son was going to endure and what to expect it became easier. the Hardest thing for me was the " not Knowing" then when I started receiving letters then calls It made it worth the wait. Moms the more you read the more you will know and believe me you will know more than your SR. That is the truth. My son had no clue as to what I was speaking about they are in the dark about what to expect. when you speak to them about BST-21 battlestations they have no clue what that is. And if you can learn the lingo because when you answer them back it will be the funniest thing ever, you will definitely blow their minds.
All will be fine Ladies they will succeed, they need to stay focused, and have that determination and find that inner strength that they all have. Best wishes to your Loved ones and Congrats to you all for taking the stand!
hi all! just found out my son was told to report for Boot Camp on December 4th, when originally the date was January 3rd. Shocked of the quickness but happy for him to start this new chapter in his life. just now getting all done that needs to be done in a short amount of time. We had a wonderful Thanksgiving with all of the family but Christmas will be hard....but I am so proud of him and his strength to make this decision to join the Navy.:-) Proud mom
My son leaves in 6 days (uugghh) and I'm wondering what is required for him to bring. He has his flat wallet with his license in it, some pictures, a calling card and addresses. Is there anything else we are forgetting? Social security card or is the license good? I'm so emotional with this all and love that I found this group. I'm going to miss him beyond words!
Hi all! My daughter leaves for BC Dec 18th. I'm a single mom and she's my only child so I'm not sure how I'll ultimately react once she's actually gone since it's been just her & me for so long... very proud and excited for her future though... that's for sure.
Good Morning Ladies, I hope all is well. I can understand the anxiety you all must be feeling, This is a Big step not only for you but for your Son/Daughter as well. They are doing a Great thing, and they are going to be one step closer to their Journey that they have chosen for themselves. That in itself is Amazing! May you ladies keep your heads high, Keep the faith and continue to be strong for your Loved ones and Congrats to your soon to be SR.
Hello, my daughter is to swear in tomorrow and then ship to Great Lakes. I just had another daughter graduate BC on October 20th. She is finishing her A school. They don't need to bring much to BC. I would suggest about $20, licence and Social Security Card. My fist daughter brought contacts and they sent them back to us. But then I mailed them to her at a later date.
Even though this is my second time around, it is just as nerve wracking. It is a different kid, so I know she will react to things differently.
24 hours and counting until swear in! he heads to the hotel today to stay the night and then he is off to BC tomorrow. he is excited about the new journey as am I for him, but will still miss him crazy. I have my moments where all of a sudden I start to cry, but I know he will be fine.
Good Morning Ladies, I know how overwhelming all this can be. Please join Boot camp for loved ones you will also find much needed information on that site. Their are many Ladies on there that can answer any questions you may have and also the Ladies on the site are all going thru what you all are experiencing, Please come and share. There is no such thing as a dumb question and many to help answer and give their thoughts.
Congrats! to you all on your Newly SR. So proud of them for taking the Courage to enlist and begin on their Journey they have chosen for themselves. They will be in Good Hands.
Thank you all for your support. My son was initially leaving in May 2018. A space opened up for him to leave on Dec 18...Now we just have one and a half weeks until he reports to BC. He is ready, we are getting there. Either now or later, we are very proud of him!!
My son is leaving on Dec 18 as well. He is very excited, but I can see his anxiety creeping in. His original date was May '18, but an opening came up yesterday, so he accepted it. He is my only son, and I will miss him...

It's not too early to check out the discussion, Things to Do in the Last Month before Your Future Sailor Leaves for..., and to start discussing some of the things there with your future Sailor such as how to handle bad news and who will be put on the Access List....
If you have not yet joined Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones), now is a good time to do so and to begin checking out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) starting with OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile) (some of you have changes that you need to make--at least change 3; make change 4 if your profile pic includes your future Sailor) and then go on to Arrival and What Happens at the RTC.

Can recruits take anything to BC with them?
Recruits should go with what they have on their backs, their cell phones, and not much else. (See Things to Do in the Last Month Before Your Future Sailor Leaves for....)
How long is the "I'm here!" call and when will s/he be able to call again?
See Phone Cards and Phone Calls.
When will "The Box" come?
It will usually arrive by FedEx within a few days, but it can take up to 2 weeks at times.
