that's for sure. I've always felt that we need to be responsible for our health, meaning get a 2nd opinion if it's needed, do the research to see if there is something better than conventional medicine out there etc.

High protein and low carb worked for me ME.  Move as much as you can.

Donna, T told me that she got a hold of you.  and yes, the economy is stretching every one.

  • Maryellen

Well I had a great friend that gave me a little kick in the butt and told me that I was in control and that I was stronger than I was being. She told me that I have never backed down from a challange and that I needed to take control. she checks on me every day and makes sure I am keeping myself in control. I have a list of a few things I will discuss with my primary on Monday including getting my handicap sticker back so I don't have to walk as far. The main pool here is now open and starting tomorrow night I am going back to the pool and I have some walking to do in the pool. I also have a few other things I can do in the pool so I am now in control. I told Teddy that I will NOT under no circumstances be going back to see the ortho again. I will find someone else that will work with me instead of throwing my weight in my face. Thank you everyone for your prayers and support I Love You all. And thanks to the friend that gave me a great pep talk.
  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

I'm glad that someone gave you that pep talk ME, cause we all need support.  Weight is so hard to get off, but it can come off.

I call myself a sugarholic, but once I started to lose thru Curves, I have been able to not eat as much candy.  that's my vice.  I keep candy in the house, but it is in the bag, in another bag and put somewhere not quite so easy to get to.

so if I want it, I have to work for it ahha.  YOU CAN DO IT!

okay, egg on my face regarding the little boy with the brad nailer.  My good friend sent me the link to the story, here is a small part of it:

Updated Aug. 10, 2011 - The "Kayla Scott" prayer chain letter continues to circulate, a year after it was first posted on Facebook. I still don't have enough information to tell you whether the original message was true or false, but I can tell you that the version making the rounds as of August 2011 is both outdated and erroneous.

"Kayla Scott" has nothing to do with any child who supposedly shot himself with a brad nailer. Her name was inserted into the message long after it first began circulating, nor was this the first time that happened. As you'll see below, no fewer than seven different versions of the text have circulated, each naming a different mother.

    Trouble, Welcome back!
  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

that is good weight loss MommyHunt.  Did you feel weak while doing it?

glad you can get back on T.  please post the number that you can do for the marines in the Marine thread.  thanks!

  • Paymaster

Non sewing question, Daughter is buying a house and all the shelves are lined with some really old contact paper.  Anyone got a good method of getting it off?
  • Cindylaine (MN Mom)

We are having a great time up here in GL.  Graduation was awesome.  Getting the whole weekend with our Sailor.
  • LLovesmysailor

If the paper won't come off easily. Use a wall paper scraper to get the paper part off. Then get the glue off with a product called Goo Gone. Just make sure the area is well ventilated because you don't want to spend a lot of time breathing that stuff.
  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

man T, you put  me to shame.  I thought about sewing today.  But that's all I got done ahha.

I wonder if a hair dryer in small patches at a time would loosen up the glue.  then the goo gone or avon skin so soft bath oil would take it off.  the bath oil works really good, but it has to sit awhile to soak in.  then a scrapper would be best.

but I think I would try a hair blow dryer and scrapper first.

Cindy, so very happy for you!  such an awesome ceremony!  enjoy your sailor and give him our congrats.

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

did you do it thru a doctor?
  • LLovesmysailor

The fabric softner and water works really well on wall paper, but the glue on contact paper is different. I like the blow dryer idea. I used a power stripper one time on an old dresser that had contact paper. Its a long story but it ended with my having to put out a small fire and disconnect the smoke detector at the same time.

my "baby" is 27 today.  yikes, where do the years go?  We are taking him out to dinner after church.  I baked his favorite cake-triple chocolate of course!

good information and Lyn, I had a laugh out loud about your adventures!

Natalie, so glad that you had a good day with your son.  Let me know about the deployment once they are settled where they are going.

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

I will email the recipe to you Natalie.  It was my mom's and it doesn't contain eggs.

Please pray for me today cause I have to do something totally new and foreign to me at school today and I am terrified of it!!!!  haha

It's called Dibels testing-hearing the sounds of words.  We have to do all the kids, 675 of them this week.  I don't want to mess up for the kids.  I am okay, I think, with the basics, but then they throw in the nonsense words-yikes!  what a way to confuse them.

not looking forward to this week and I will be out of the kinder classroom again.  I wonder if I will ever get to know my class' names or faces.

had an awesome dinner with my sonny last night.

  • m'smom

Sue-Your task reminds me of my MIL.  she was a speech and hearing therapist, covered several of the local parochial schools and had to test all childern at all the schools every September.  She hated it.  Felt it took valuable time from the kids that really needed her help.  Teachers knew who was having a problem most of the time and would speak to her about it.

Good Luck!  You will do fine!

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

I survived and didn't throw up! thanks for praying for me. the coordinator asked me about a couple and I suggested she re-test one boy-told her that I wouldn't be offended at all.
    it goes on all week.
  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

T, thanks for the update.  Not only will we pray for Jennifer, but for you too.

and thanks for the encouraging words.

I got the sweetest email tonight from my son about his birthday dinner last night.  I printed it off and will put it in his "book".

  • Maryellen

Well on a lighter note, had my appointment with my primary care doc today and here is what is going on.

Things went well today, she is behind me 100% and is going to call him about the way he talked to me. This is what we are doing for right now.
    1. NO gym
    2. Walking and swimming in the pool only
    3. Back on the meds to reduce my appetite
    4. Wait for the insurance company to call me about the cost of the shots.
    5. If I can afford them then she will find me a new ortho, and if I can’t afford them she will still find me a new ortho.
She also gave me a temporary handicap plaque for my car, she is really working with me, I am trying not to take the pain meds just Ibuprofen so I will be able to have them when I really need them. As far as being too young for knee replacement she want to find someone that can at least give me a time frame. I want to get the weight off first so I know it will last the 10-15 years it is supposed to. So we are heading in the right direction for now. I go back in 1 month unless there is a problem.

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

such news this morning.  My heart is heavy for Jennifer and I do believe unless the Lord intervenes, she is at the end.  I saw this same thing for a good friend of mine with pancreatic cancer in 2007.  I am so happy she has good friends close by who can see her.

ME, high protein and low carb-that works for me.  you should eat about 180 grams of protein a day.  drink half of your weight in water daily.  that will flush out your system and make the food move thru faster too.

really cut soda consumption if you drink it.  it is nothing but chemicals.

    off to kinderland.

  • m'smom

T-Keeping both you and Jennifer in my prayers.
  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

praying for you both T.  and I am glad that she is still fighting.  that's the way to do it.

sonny came for dinner last night and it is such a pleasure to have him there.

Ray goes to the urologist today and will find out if the PSA has gone down or if he will need a biospy.  Ray finally told Ben about this possible cancer.  whew!

so glad to have him home.  off to kinderland again.

  • Maryellen

Terry, I just read what you wrote, You have touched my heart with your kind words. I am very honored to have you as my friend and I concider you my sister. You have made the last couple years a great time and I am looking forward to many more years of freindship.

I am strong because I have freinds like you and the ladies here on HAE.  When I joined this group in 2009 I was going through a rough time, my baby girl was leaving for boot camp and I was not sure what to do. Then I started to make pillowcases and to date I have made over 300 myself. I have worked the most wonderful ladies in the world and you have given me the strength and wisdom to make it through the depression I was going through. I know I don't say it very often but I LOVE YOU ALL and thank God everyday that your are in my life.

To Terry, Janice, Sue, Lyn, Dori and Cathy J. You are very important to me and You are the ones that have been here with me. We have been through the ups and downs together and I would not change a day of it for nothing. Again I Love You ALL and God Blees You ALL.

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

Welcome to Whaletalkers!  thanks for all the news about Jennifer T.  Do you all know the poem "Footprints in the sand?"  The Lord is carrying her now.

ME, sure am happy to have you "on board" with us at HAE.  Lyn, you and Dori were the 1st Navy moms from N4M to join me in the pillowcase project.  That's been over 2 years ago and we have accomplished much.  Including passing the project to others to do as well.

And I see that I need to post some new numbers.

my hubby's PSA was up again, so he is having a biospy of the prostrate in Oct.

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

AMEN to that ladies.  and thanks for praying.  At least Ben knows now and that helps.  We talked about it Tuesday night when they came for dinner.  He took Ray to the doc yesterday.

yesterday's testing went great.  ALL the other EAs kept saying how terrible the 5th grade was to do, but I thought it was a nice walk in the park.  But those nonsense words -forgetaboutit.  ( said in a NY accent) haha

  • DC - G'mother of My Fav Sailor

Sue, biopsies are tough!  No question about it.  It is not so much that the actual surgery to do the biopsy is so bad but it is all the uncertainty, all the waiting, all the imagination (which you hope is truly imagination), all the waiting for doctors' calls, ... and the list goes on.  Somehow when you know what it is that is going on and you develop a plan of action, it gets easier.  In any case, Ray is in my prayers.  May they find nothing but an idiopathic (I love that word) rise in the PSA.  I told a doctor today that I thought that idiopathic stood for "no idiot would be able to find out what is going on."  He really had a good chuckle at that.  In any case, I am sure it was a comfort to have Ben around to accompany him to the doctor.
  • Maryellen

Well today was a good day, I got an email from one of the guys from the 20th engineer battalion today, he is doing fine and just wanted to check in. They are still in their home base and training, some of them will go back to the sandbox soon. He just wanted to say hello and that he takes his pillowcase where ever he goes. It just happens to be one that I made.

Also today, they 16 year old young lady that I have been teaching to sew has a stack of 20 pillowcases to start sewing, they are cut and have the bands ready to put on them. She is such an insparation to me, she is so full of life and wants to learn to sew and make things. She has watched me make pillowcases before and now she sits at both my sewing machine and surger and works on her own. When she gets the 20 sewn I will post them, Sue some more of your material will be in the pictures. She has made a small blanket, 2 pillows and now the pillowcases. I thank God everyday for the ablity to pass on my talent to her.

  • m'smom

ME-It is nice when we find young people who want to learn soem of the finer arts!!  I remember when my daughter was in Girl Scouts and we went out and bought fleece and polyfill and they each made a pillow. They had to hand sew them because we didn't have a machine they could use.  They had a great time.  But it was more rewarding when they brought them on our camping trips later on!
  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

thank you for the encouraging words Dori.  I will take that morning off from work and Ben's school schedule will allow him to be here that afternoon.  That is a comfort to me.

Jackie, are you in AZ yet?

It's nice to hear from one of the older groups we have done.  I got an email from a sailor from the Lincoln recently.  He is with a squadron and that was fun.

good job on teaching the young lady to sew!

it's been a long day, with wearing many hats.  I am wiped out. But I survived a whole week of DIBELS testing and I didn't throw up!  haha

my whirlwind was here when I got  home.  it's always good to see him.  anyone have an elementary algebra-2009 book and/or history 101 -2012 that they don't need any more ?  He needs those 2 books to start college and they are expensive new.

tomorrow working at Curves in the morning and then we have a Zumba party at the club.  I love Zumba.

off to bed.  I need to put my head at ease.

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

I was so sore after the Zumba party, but a good kind of sore from exercise.

hope you all are well and sewing haha.

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

Whoohoo ladies!  We are a featured group again.  When you go to all groups we are across the top.

    Good going ALL!

off to kinderland and the kids with wheels for feet and elastic for bodies.  Have 2 little boys this year that really fit that description.

  • MontanaMomKandi

I just want to let y'all know I will be prayiing for this group. I do not have a place to set up my sewing machine at this time, but when I do have a place I will sew. In the meantime, prayer will have to be my contribution. Please know that if you are sewing pillowcases for this group, you are on my list ~ my PRAYER list, that is. :)

    Have a blessed day!

  • DC - G'mother of My Fav Sailor

Sue, tell Ben to check Amazon for texts.  Some of my students picked up used books that way.  What's really bad is that when you sell back a book you get nothing for it but the next student pays a fortune again.  I used to try to get the students to set up a book exchange.  It required effort but I thought it would be a win-win situations.  The students could make a little money to support club activities and also get books for less money.
  • Dawn L.

Sue- About the textbooks, go to Chegg.com. They are place that rents textbooks. My daughter used it during school & boy is it a money saver. You just send them back at the end of the semester.
  • m'smom

Thanks for the prayers Montana.  I had a thank you from a Marine already-Thanks Sue for passing it along!  Motivated me to sew more.

Anyone figured out how to get a bobbin to last longer???  I have to take a winding break too often.  I have 3 loaded with white-which works for most of my fabrics..but...

  • Maryellen

m'smom, just load a bunch with white and only use white thats what I do.
  • LLovesmysailor

There has just been an earthquake centered SW of Washington DC. It was felt as far north as New York city. I hope all our Moms are OK in that area.
  • LLovesmysailor

I load some with white and some with a dark color. Of course most of the sewing I do is on the serger and they don't have bobbins.
  • Maryellen

I do have some good new though, my insurance comapny has pick up the cost of the shots for my knee 100%. I am going in the morning to pick up the meds from the old ortho and will be taking them Monday to the new one. I will have to start over and I don't know if he will give them to me but it is better then going back to the jerk and have him give them to me. If the new doctor says that it will not help the insurance company will get them back and I will not be out of anything. keep me in your prayers that the new doctor will give me the shots, it will buy me 5 months to lose more weight.
  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

welcome to Montana Mom Kandi!  We are glad to have you join us and especially for those prayers.

When I heard about the earthquake today, I praised the Lord that my son has come home.  He was here when I came home from lunch-we cooked alittle together for our Tuesday night dinner.

I haven't seen any coverage and I am glad that you are fine Theresa.  Other VA moms, we would love to  hear from you.

Dawn, I told my son and he checked there today while he was here.  I never heard of that so it was a great tip.  He starts tomorrow and is going to make sure on the books.  He is looking at an ebook.

Dori, he did try Amazon but they either didn't have it or it was really expensive.

ME glad that the insurance will come thru.

Please continue to pray for HAE crew member and my friend Pat's grandson Will.  Here is a post from today:

I know you all have been praying for Will, but if you could just
remain on bended knee and petition to the Lord on his behalf, I'd
appreciate it. He is not doing well from this last round of chemo. He
has a fever and his ANC counts are low. All he seems to do is cry and
sleep. He won't eat or drink anything, partly because when he does, he
throws it up. He did so well with the induction phase, the doctors and
nurses are baffled at his reaction to this phase of the treatment. So
please pray he starts to rally and begins eating and drinking again.

    Thank you,
    Pat

  • m'smom

Glad to hear you are all ok from the Quake.  My husband's building in downtown Pittsburgh swayed.  Also epi-center was right smack dab bewteen my two kids-one in DC and sailor at Oceana!!  He is all excited with his Navy life-Tornado-Earthquake and soon Hurricane.  Ah to be young and think those are fun events!!  Will keep prayers going for those on the east coast this weekend as Irene goes by.

On a happier note...this is the one week mark for M's PIR.  Several of the mom's have re-visited our PIR group.  One has a son on the Bush that got one of our pc's.  Small Navy!!

ME prayers for you and for Will.  ALso have friend having hip replacement surgery on 31st.  Prayers are needed for Diane.

    Later!!

  • LLovesmysailor

I talked to my son last night and his townhouse had no damage from the earthquake. But, he is really begining to feel like a target. First the earthquake and now a Hurrincane headed his way. His townhouse sits right next to a very large tree. So, if it would not be too much trouble, could some one pray that Irene takes a large right turn and heads out to sea?

m'smom, what does your son do at Oceana? My son lives very close to the base. Very soon, the Navy will leave Norfolk until the storm passes. They take all the ships out to storm anchorage until the storm passes. My husband says its quite a ride. He did it on an aircraft carrier. I imagine that it isn't as much fun on a small ship. Also, this leaves all the wives back in Norfolk to deal with the storm alone. Ah, the joys of being a Navy wife!

  • m'smom

My son is aircrew on the transport planes.  He said they aren't moving the planes just tying them down.  Some ships left this am.  My DIL's aunt is on one that left already.  Son lives in Chesapeke, about 30 mins from base.  DIL is afraid he will have to stay on base and she will be alone dealing with young pup.  He jokingly said there was one plane they weren't going to tie down in the hopes that Irene would take it with her!!  I guess yours missed out on the tornado back in June? Mine was walking the flight line when the roof blew off one of the hangers!!
  • LLovesmysailor

He was there for the tornado as well. He was shore based and is now a civilian working for the Navy. He's starting to refer to VA Beach as ground zero. The reason they take the ships out to sea, is that they don't want them banging into the docks. So, it really doesn't matter how bad the storm is, they move them. If the storm gets bad enough, Cat 3 or more, they will move those planes. They can make that decision as late as 12 hours before the storm hits.
  • LLovesmysailor

The Navy has announced that it is moving the fleet out to storm anchorage. They will be moving the ships some time on Thursday. Yup, this storm is for real.
  • m'smom

My son said two of their plane aren't able to fly right now due to needing repairs.  One will be in a hanger and the other lashed down outside.  The others are all going somewhere.

He thinks I'm nuts but I told him to go buy newspapers so they can let the puppy 'go' during the storm.  They have a covered balcony that should work fine for the little guy.  He told me that the Navy taught him about hurricane preparedness.  I told him I had lived through a couple.  Better than book learning!!

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

mornin ladies.  I had a really long day yesterday and night and just collapsed into bed when I got home about 9 pm.

    will check in later

    have a great day.

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

WOW, lots of storms going in VA Beach area. I am sure my son is glad to be in HOT and humid AZ. haha.
would not want to be a pilot moving the planes-yikes!
got thru the 2 really long days intact. I feel coherent again haah.
have a great day praying for all, including the TH with tree.
  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

AND I did a June/July HAE update thru email this week.  If you have not received it and would like it, pm me your email address.

that is such an awesome website to see these men praying!  I love it.  I joined and asked if I could use that photo here and in my newsletter.
