Mornin' ladies.  I like the smaller projects too.  love to make pieced pcs, but they do take more time.  I hate to waste any fabric.

My hubby is having his prostrate biopsy this afternoon.  Please pray for the procedure and the results.  Thanks!

  • LLovesmysailor

Natalie, Yes, you just cut a single layer of fabric. They don't look like much, but they are warm!
  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

hubby had his test.  he does have an enlarge prostrate and when we get the results he and his doc will decide the best course of action.

    thanks for praying.

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

Welcome to ahpmomb2!  We are very glad to have you join us!
  • LLovesmysailor

I just bought this fabric at JoAnn's. They also have Air Force and Army fabric. It is over by the Disney fabric.
  • Dawn L.

Love the new material from JoAnn's!!! Ii'm going to have to look for some at our store. Thanks for the info.
  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

WOW, that is cool fabric Lyn!

I finally mailed a box to the new mom that you mentioned 2 months ago! Sometimes, it just takes me a while to get things done.  Would you please give a heads up to the contact that a box from me is coming?  It is due to deliver on 10-13.  I sent red, white and blue crocheted baby blanket, some avon toileteries for the new mom, some children's books, 2 pairs of mittens, 2 pairs of booties, 2 pairs of socks for the little girl and a "girl" bear for her also.

I also mailed 73.75 pounds of fabric!!!!  Can't wait to see how many yards that works out to be!

And alittle gift for Florence.  Sometime to keep her busy while she is in rehab.  How is her foot doing ME?

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

I love mailing at Office Depot.  They have carts!  haha.

hubby is doing good after his test.  I made  him some comfort food.  A meatloaf and I am just ready to take an apple/cranberry pie out of the oven.

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

Welcome to frogmansgirl!  So happy to have you join us!
  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

if you are mailing to the marines, would you please let us know if you have done that?  thanks!  I always wait until the end.

don't know about those prints Natalie.  I was at JoAnn's last Saturday and didn't even look at fabric.  I am seeing plenty haha.  And I love it.

  • quiltblue

Anyone have any scraps from Harry Potter fabric? One of my "Girls" loves HP and would love a piece on her personal pillowcase. I have looked online and I can buy a yard for around $30!... I might have to photoshop something onto my label if I can't find anything! Thanks in advance!
  • Maryellen

Ally, when I got mine it said 18lbs, 10 oz and I know it was more. I got 75.5 yards. Just watch out, you know how Sue packs boxes it will explode on you when you open it.
  • Dawn L.

Natalie- I thought of an idea for the Harry Potter pc! What about using a HP t-shirt for the material and get some kind of jersey material for the back piece. That way it will be as easy to take care of  as a t-shirt.
  • quiltblue

Haven't found any clothing or tshirts... I might have to go to Goodwill. My sewing machine is having her spa days (two more weeks they said today)... so I have time to be looking. Never thought I would be stumped looking for a special fabric! It is fun though! Maybe my box from Sue will have something I can use!
  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

sorry quilt, it doesn't.  but the t-shirt idea is a good one.  you can also take a piece of tulle (netting), place it over your design or picture, trace it with a sharpie.  THEN you take the traced picture, put it on plain pc, re-trace and you can then paint or color it.

That's how I learned to fabric paint t-shirts 25 years ago.  You can turn any picture into art on fabric with that method.'

the above pc was made from a t-shirt.  couldn't find fabric, so my friend got me the -shirt.  I cut what I wanted out of the t-shirt and then built the pc around it for a pieced one.  the back is just regular cotton.

the above pcs were made from a scrub shirt that a Lincoln mom sent me last fall.

and then there is always the screen print option.  My son and I with the pc that Shirley had made for my son:

  • LLovesmysailor

Quilt. If you take a picture and scan it. You can then print it out onto photo fabric. It is special fabric that you can run through your printer. They carry it in the quilt dept of fabric stores. The fabric stores have several grades of the stuff, so you can find on that works for your pillowcase.

  • quiltblue

Thank you for all the ideas! I will be sure to post a photo of whatever I come up with!
  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

thanks Ally.  Of course, I think so.  It is hard to see, but we each have a cleft in our chins.  So does my dad.  I'm the only one of 5 who got it.

70 yards!  awesome!  Can't wait to see what you do with it.

Lyn, that sounds like interesting fabric.

  • Paymaster

Natalie....If you think the fabric is to stretchy try some iron on stablizier.  It will make it easier to work with.  If you don't want to use stablizier then just glue another piece of cotton fabrc to it and that will do the samething for you.
  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

I got 3 thank you notes from the Stennis that I will get posted soon.

Natalie, when I made the Ohio pc (and it is a rectangle even if it looks like a square), I just pressed the edges one at a time and the quickly pinned and sewed.  knit fabric likes to curl.   so you either have to stablize or sew fast!  haha

  • LLovesmysailor

Here's wishing the Navy a Happy Birthday! Happy 236th!
  • quiltblue

Got my box today! Still trying to determine how much fabric I got. Lots of pink in my box! Thank you Sue for your willingness to share with us all!

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

yeah, there was lots of pink, so everyone got some pink.  Lyn, please tell the story again about the Bush delivery and what the male sailors said about pink.

Also, take a look at Terry's pcs for the Marines that ME posted.  There is a pink bottom with motorcycle band-very cool.

Glad to know that you ladies got your boxes.  I was going to email you today.

I really take my time to do it.  I don't let any little spot go empty.  You can tell by the way that the fabric is folded etc.  I pack the pcs the same way.  I am slow at it, but get lots in a box.

No test results on my hubby yet.  He is anxious to hear.

I am speaking at another school today about HAE.  I did that 2 years ago also.  It is to 7th and 8th graders.  Picking up some materials from the Navy and Marines on my way to the school

Bringing my veteran along too.  I bribed him with lunch at Sweet Tomatoes afterwards.  Actually, Ben is really good with kids.

And did you that October is National Dinosaur month and National Popcorn month.  that's alittle trivia for the day. haha

Made dino crafts at work this week and yesterday we (I) made microwave caramel popcorn.  You make it in a bag-yummy!

    Have a great day ladies.

  • quiltblue

Support the Boy Scouts and buy their Popcorn this month! Did you know you can buy popcorn and they will mail it to your Military Branch of choice? I thought that was really cool. If we had more disposable money I would have bought some! My Sailor is an Eagle Scout and we ate so much popcorn during his growing up years, he doesn't really care for it now unless he is a a movie!  He comes home for his first visit on the 29th! We are so excited!
  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

Mornin' ladies!  Here's another bit of trivia for you:  it is also National adopt a shelter dog month.  I know these things because I have been doing research for my afternoon job.  The new director would like to do "themes" for the program.  So I got a couple of books from library.  There is lots that can be celebrated every month but I am only picking what interests me.

And of course, it is National breast cancer awareness month.  I am going to walk in the bc walk on 10-30 this year with the Curves team.  I am doing that in honor of my Curves owner and a secretary at school.  If anyone would like to support me for the walk you can go to http://www.makingstrides.acsevents.org/tucson and search for Team: Curves gym on Campbell.

I spoke yesterday at St Elizabeth Ann Seton School yesterday to 7th and 8th graders.  91 students in 4 groups.  Ben came along and I was so happy to have him there.  I took some pcs to show including 4 for some fallen heroes that I haven't mailed yet.

They were very attentive and about 10-12 students sewed and want to help.  One of their teachers, Kathy, is a sewer for HAE.  In fact, she helped me pick up the big fabric donation.  So she will work with the students on  that.  Even 1 boy sews and is interested.  I am so happy about that.

I noticed several boys wearing a pink shirt, so I quizzed them about pink pcs or pcs with pink on them.  all the boys said "no problem".   I explained about the Bush and how we get so much pink fabric.  So I am at peace about that.

Ben asked the teacher at the end about the shirts.  That is an 8th privilege to wear shirts of a certain and the 1st class chose pink and green.  She said they have to order the shirts, so these boys planned to wear them.

I did tell them to check out HAE on this site, so if any students check in, a big "hello and thank you for your good attention yesterday!"

Afterwards, Ben and I had lunch together.  It's the 1st time that we have gotten to spend some time together just the 2 of us since he's been back.  It was fun and I loved having him come along.

The Boy Scouts have really good popcorn!  I've bought it before myself.

Well, I am working at Curves today, so best be getting ready.  have an awesome day!

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

The Marines CLB is finished as of yesterday.  New numbers posted.

Our next unit will either be an army one or another Marine unit.  Our own Natalie's son is deploying with a Marine unit, so that is coming up real soon.

So sew and stash for a bit ladies.  You are awesome!

I just found out yesterday that RJA (your guardian angel) will be in Tucson on Monday.  Whoohoo!  2 grandsons are coming and Ben is their uncle.  They are older, but that's what you get in a blended family-fun relationships haha.

Can't wait to see them and get a photo of those 3 boys together!

    Prayer Request

Ladies I have been holding a big burden on my shoulders and am asking for your paryers to get through this burden.

The past few months I have been noticing a change in my husband Teddy, I would tell him things and he would forget what I had told him. If I told him something anywhere from 15 minutes to 1 day before he would not remember me saying anything. I finally got him to go see our doctor. She has done 1 MRI of his brain without contrast and the results came in last week and he has Mild Cortial Atrophy( decreaseing tissue) in the frontal cortex of his brain. On Monday we will go for an MRI with contrast to see if there is a blockage. This has been hard for me to see him forget things and I know that is is hard on him too. He has only told his bosses and 3 coworkers about this, and they are working with us to make sure he is ok during the day at work. Ladies, I know that we are faithful paryer worriers so please I need them now. I had to tell my daughter what was going on even though she is on deployment only because she got an email from dad and it didn't make sense so she called me and sent it to me so she knows what is going on. We will not know the next results untill the end of next week. To be honest I am scared, and lost all at the same time. Tonight my son inlaw took us out to dinner for my Birthday and in a spand of 10 minutes he could not remember if he took his Insulin or if he had a piece of bread. I almost lost it. I had to get up and got to the bathroom and cry and then go back to the table.  Please keep the prayers going that this is a blockage or has to do with his Meds and we can come to  a reason for this. Thanks for letting me just ramble and get this off my chest

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

Maryellen, thank you for sharing this with us.  This is a heavy burden to carry alone. I will be praying for Teddy, you and Danielle as I am sure the other ladies will as well.

  • Paymaster

ME...You are carrying a heavy load.  Let us help lift some your burden in prayer.
  • quiltblue

Dear Maryellen, praying for you and Teddy. My friend went through this same thing and it was the medicine! Rest assured that we will be praying for you, Teddy and your families! God is amazing and we will all be praying for a quick answer to these issues! NMHugs!
  • quiltblue

Sue, just wanted to let you know that I have 49 yards of pillowcase material from my box! Yippee! and thank you for all the additional pieces for quilting, not really sure if I will use them on pillowcases or not... if I am bored and have time to sew them together they will make great bands for the pcs!  The Dragon story fabric is cute, not really sure how to utilize that! Sure wish my sewing machine was back home from the shop!
  • Maryellen

Thank you Ladies, it will be a long road to travel but with you all by my side i know I will make it. Love You All
  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

Peggy, I seriously would have cut it up for bands.  I think it is so cute and you are so creative, I decided to send it to you since I was sending the bigger box.

I wanted to keep it, but at the rate that I sew I figured I should get it into the hands of someone who would use.  You can always make the book and sell it to use for postage $.

Here is some information about RJA.  Check it out!  The boys will be in Tucson tomorrow!  whoohoo!  haven't seen Ben and his nephews together for many years.  I'll get a photo.  He's the uncle but is younger.  haha.

Awesome group Sue!  I really enjoyed listening to the songs! Gotta love heavy metal with a Christian message!  I have received 6 email Thank you notes from the Stennis so far! Waiting for permission to post the photos online before I share the messages...!
  • LLovesmysailor

I've been out of town for a few days and its taking a while to catch up with my messages.

ME, both you and Teddy are always in my thoughts. I hope it all turns out well.

Sue, The box arrived today. There was 68+ yds of fabric in the box. Looks like I'll be sewing for a while.

  • Dawn L.

I've been sewing all weekend. I'm going to make a trip to Joann's this week to get some more fabric. Trying to get as much dine before Ben gets home next month.
  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

wonderful Lyn!  off to see the RJA!  so excited to see the boys.
  • Maryellen

Thsnk you everyone for the prayers, I will keep you posted as we know more. It looks like its going to be a long haul.

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

Thanks for measuring that Lyn.  I am trying to keep track of how much I've sent.  But I did add in the teacher's fabric too.  giving some to a Tucson sewer today.  have several coming over on Saturday afternoon finally.

Good going Dawn.  I'll mail some when Ben gets homes.  Dawn and I both have Bens.

Had a wonderful visit with the "boys".  They didn't play until 10:30 and I was in bed before they even went on, but we got to visit beforehand and I loved it.

Ray and Ben met them for breakfast yesterday morning and I baked them brownies before I went to work.  They had to have some "grandma food".

I hope you all will look up the link about them and try to get to a concert if it is near you.  Ronnie and the band have played a concert at GTMO and in Iraq, as well as bases stateside.

my "boys" above.  l to r:  Ronnie, Ben, Ray and Randy.  Ben is their uncle and he is younger.  Ray's oldest son and Ben are half brothers, 25 years apart.

When I was pregnant with Ben, we were told that I was having a boy.  So the grandkids would pat my belly and say "uncle baby".

    We had a great time!

  • m'smom

ME -Will keep you and your hubby in my prayers.

Thank you to all who helped with the CLB-6 Marines.  I have heard through my nephew that all are very glad to have a touch of home.

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

that's wonderufl new m's mom!   and yes, ME I am praying too.

the band is based out of Jacksonville, FL but the boys were born in Tucson.

  • Maryellen

Ladies, I talked to Terry tonight and she is stranded in Dalton GA, she was with Jacob and his mom heading to take him back to the base in Lynchburg VA and the car broke down. Please keep them in your prayers that it is just a sensor in the tramsmission and that they can get it fixed and head back to Florida tomorrow afternoon. Jacobs buddy is home on leave and is heading to him in the morning to get him and take him back to VA and to the base to check in ontime. Please keep them all in your prayers and when I hear from Terry tomorrow I will post an update.
  • Matt's Mom/Cathy

I hope that everything works out for Terry and her traveling companions Maryellen.

    Praying for Teddy also.

  • Maryellen

Thanks everyone, I am going to call the Doctors in the morning to find out the results of his last MRI
  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

bummer about Terry and will pray for her.   no results yet on Ray's test and it will be 2 weeks tomorrow.  he has called the doc but no results.
  • Matt's Mom/Cathy

Sue I bet it has felt like a lot longer than 2 weeks.  I hope that Ray gets his results soon and that everything comes back normal.
  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

yes it sure does and then the mind plays tricks on you about the possible delay.
  • Maryellen

Update on Terry, They took the car in this morning and it is the trasmission. The guy got it running enough that they could drive it back to Florida but they could not do more that 55 MPH. So they packed up and headed home. I just got off the phone with her and they are in the state of FL and about 38 miles from the FL turpike and doing ok. As Terry puts it they are trolling along. They should get back to Winter Haven about 1am and then Terry will head to her house in the morning.

Jacobs friend drove to GA to pick him up and they are back in VA and should be to his aunts house in less than 30 min. He will be to the base in the AM and able to report on time.

God has answered some might big prayers today and just keep them going that Terry and Sharleen get home ok. They took lemons and made lemon-aid and made the best of a bad situation. God is Good and the power of Prayer is Great.

  • Matt's Mom/Cathy

Glad to hear that everything worked out for Terry and Jacob.

One time while still in high school me and a gf decided we were going to the beach (a couple of hours away) just the two of us.  Of course our parents didn't know it was just us going but they certainly figured it out when we were late getting home and they were out looking for us.  Her car started leaking transmission fluid on the way back and we would be driving along and as the transmission fluid leaked out the car would lose speed.  We spent a fortune buying transmission fluid to get back home!  We got in so much trouble over that trip but I wouldn't change it for anything because about a year later we lost her when was killed in a car accident.

  • Maryellen

Well our trolling traveler made it home about 12:30 lastnight and are fine. Terry will be heading back to her house sometime today.
