m'smom, Sounds like he's a typical guy. Even if they did have a shovel, he'd use the chair because it was available. We went to a very funny play last weekend, called "Defending the Caveman". The incident you describe sounds like it came right out of that one man show.

  • LLovesmysailor

BTW, what ship is your nephew deploying on?

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

Welcome to Karen, we are happy to have you join us!

m's mom, glad to know his injury wasn't serious!  that's a funny story.  what ship is your nephew going out on>

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

Hi Granny, it is good to hear from you!  how is the knee?

m's mom, are you interested in having Granny check out the teams?  or have you gotten what you need?  Thanks for the info!

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

Mornin' all.  I am off to kinderland haha.  have an awesome day.

  • m'smom

Still trying to get the name of the ship.  These Marine Mom's don't realize how important that is!!  LOL

Granny V-Do you know how much the team fabric is?  There are a couple I can't find except in polar fleece.  It is going to be very bulky even if I only do the bands in fleece.  The Walmarts near here don't have fabric anymore.

Got about 25 pcs cut last night while watching the original Tora, Tora, Tora.  Great movie, shows how bad mis-communication can be and what it can result in!

    Have a great day ladies.

  • m'smom

Granny V-If you have time could you see if Walmart has Mets, Braves and Lakers cotton, please?  I have the others from Joann's for around $7 per yard.  All I can find online for those 3 is Fleece.  Who wants to wear fleece for a baseball game!!???  Must have been planned by a guy!

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

Granny, glad to hear that about the knee.  And thanks for checking out the fabric.

  • Maryellen

Ladies, Just talked to Granny V and she said she forgot that she had cookie dough that she picked up tonight and is not able to get to Wal mart tonight. She will let you know when she can go again.

  • m'smom

Thanks Granny V. I am going to the new Hobby Lobby here tomorrow-just opened this fall.  It is about 45 mins from home, but...I did find purple Basketball fleece at Joann's that might work for the Lakers.  Will order from Joann's online tomorrow when I get home if I don't find anything.

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

you all must be sewing, as it's quiet in here.  working at Curves this morning, so will check in later.

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

    Hi ladies,

hope all is well with all.   just had a hard rain shower this early morning.  doing a mini craft fair at school today and tomorrow.  Still have some HAE items that Ally and Lyn have made, so hope to sell those too.  This is a handmade craft fair only.

I also get to bake pumpkin pies with the kinders.  Every day is a new adventure.

And I forgot to tell you that on Friday my boy came to kinderland.  I brought in my toy carrier-it's about 3 feet long and it's the Enterprise.  So Ben sat with the kinders while they played with it and he told them about it.  The kids loved him.

He was barely in the door when 1 little girl, who I say is 5 going on 25, said to me "Miss Sue, I am in love with your son.  He is sooooooo handsome."  cracked me up.

I sure enjoyed having him there.  Okay, need to get my stuff gathered.  Have an awesome day ladies.

  • LLovesmysailor

I'll be off line for a while. We're heading to Va Beach to spend Thanksgiving with my oldest son. Hope you all have a good Holiday!

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

have a great Thanksgiving Lyn!  safe travels and will be praying for you.

Hey, Yankee's mom, good to hear from you!

  • LLovesmysailor

Yankee. What type of ship is the Murphy and how many sailors on board?

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

congrats to your sailor Yankee's mom.   I bet that is fun for your group to do the VA hospital.  The kinders made thank you cards for the local VA hospital here.

    the commissioning sounds like fun!

  • LLovesmysailor

    Hey Sue,

We could do 300 by next summer????? We can't do SEAL units, but this way we could honor their service.

OK, I'm going now. Time to pack up the car and leave. I'll have my husband's laptop, so I can check in. I just don't think I can answer anyone?

  • m'smom

Anyone have someone on the Essex?  Other Marine nephew is going out on the Essex soon, if they can keep it running!!  Seems like repairs and upkeep are the first budget cut item!!

On one of my other groups we have been listing what we are thankful for.  Number 1 is the ladies on this site!  Thank you for all of you!

    Have a great Thanksgiving everyone.

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

Yankee, I have seen an email tribute about Michael Murphy.  What an honor for your son to serve on a ship that is named after this young man.

Sure, we could do that.  Once we get the new marines/navy/army unit, we can check into that small ship.

Yankee, have the ladies in your VFW been sewing pcs?  would they help?

Lyn, have fun in the "Beach", as it is called.  I am cooking on Friday as Ben's navy friends from CA can't get here until Thursday night.

No school for 5 days!  whoohoo, I am ready for a break.

Sold some things at the little craft fair at school, including the last 2 camo bags that Ally had made for HAE last year.  They love them!  thank you again.

This time, I took alittle bit of information on HAE, as very soon the principal will be talking about us.

do you remember me asking about who would donate a flag to a school several months ago?  Well, thru HAE, my school has received 2 new flags and they are both very special.  One was flown over the state capitol and before I tell about the 2nd, I am going to make sure that I can.

The 1st one was purchased by a local HAE member and she didn't want recgonition for it.  I met with the principal and explained the project to her.  She

wanted to credit me, but I said "no, HAE gets the credit for it.  Because there are many many people who sew and contribute to make this happen.  I told her to put the donations down as "Heads at Ease pillowcase project for deployed military founded by Sue Lamberson".  I wouldn't have even put that in, but she protested that I should be there somewhere. And that makes sense.

Especially, since I will soon be wearing a HAE hat at school.  Dori made me a patch for a hat.

Plan to do some cutting of craft things cause I have a craft fair next weekend at home.

  • Jodi-alumni Ship 4

Sue, I've got a question. Do you have some sort of form letter that explains HAE? I was able to purchase some material from a lady on craigslist but unfortunately the quilters got to her before I did so I only was able to get enough material to make about 10-15 pcs. (mostly pink!). She asked me why I was doing this and I explained it to her but I think it would have been easier if I could have given her a letter. I'm also trying to connect with people who may have extra material they would be willing to let us have or know someone who would, but again, a letter might reach more people. I've been sewing but I'm not very fast yet. I hope to contact you soon when I get the first 25 made.

  • m'smom

Ok-Bad week here at the Cemetery. Buried a 17 year old overdose on Monday, today father and 3 teen daughters are in buying grave for mother.  Not fun anytime never mind around holidays.  There are days when I could sit here and cry for the pain peolpe are in.

    Ah well back to work!

  • Matt's Mom/Cathy

I would like to wish all of my HAE friends a Happy Thanksgiving!

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

Jodi, I do have a letter.  please pm me your email address.  I"m not very fast either.  slow and steady is one of the HAE's mottos.

m's mom, so sorry to hear the sad news of these people.  It must be hard to face that everyday.  hubby thought I should apply for a job in a hospice once and I told him that I didn't think I could handle it.

Cathy, it is good to hear from you!

Good for Yankee.  yes, we do have a cool communication thing going with our navy moms.

  • Maryellen

I would like to wish everyone a Wonderful Thanksgiving, May your Sailor call you and tell you they love you. May your tables be filled with love, laughter, the bounty that God has given you. May You have a house full of friends and Family and the day be filled with Joy. God Bless Each and Every One of our Military men and women and they Families that Support them here at Home.

God Bless and Happy Turkey Day :-) Love You All

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

Happy Thanksgiving all!  We are getting our house ready for Ben's navy friends, so will have a ham today and tomorrow is our turkey day.

I am so blessed to have my boy home this year.  We haven't spent Thanksgiving with him since 2005 and he worked that day.

This was taken last year.  I still have the hat, but made the feathers alittle shorter and more spread out this year.  The kids loves them and I wore it on Tuesday to kinderland and told the kids that I was Miss Sue Gooble Gooble.

  • Dawn L.

Sue- Today I'm just making homemade chicken & noodles to take to my mother-in law's house. My Dad went back into the hospital yesterday because he had some fluid on the the back of his head. They put a shunt back in to drain it. He should be home tomorrow. Ben is back at the ship. He will be sitting with us at the table for dinner via computer!!! He came up with that idea yesterday!!! He said he doesn't want to have dinner on the ship because everyone will be bringing family and he won't have his family with him. I told him to go there & remember that this will be their last holiday with their family because of deployment. He is going to take his camera down & take pictures of the dinner. Hopefully he will be able to post some pictures. Hope everyone has a Happy Thanksgiving with their loved one!!!
  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

Dawn, I am sorry that your dad is back in the hospital!  Will you cook a turkey tomorrow if he comes home?

That is pretty cool about Ben being at the table while being on the ship.  My Ben was on the ship last Thanksgiving somewhere on deployment.  did he take pcs back with him and has he made contact with the chaplain?

We are busy getting ready for Ben's friends.  I just cooked a sugar pie pumpkin for tomorrow's pie.  having a ham tonight when they arrive.  I am going to make some pumpkin rolls in the bread machine.

  • Dawn L.

Sue- Dad got out on Thanksgiving day. They put a shunt in the back of his head and a tube for drainage into his abdomen. It must be working. He's not so confused & is walking & doing things he's always done with no help. Amazing!!!!

About the pcs, Ben didn't even bring a suitcase home w/him to take any back. He said that he had clothes at home & didn't need to bring anything w/ him. Typical 19 year old. I will be sending some soon. Have to finish sewing some more. I had to put things off the past few weeks, because of taking care of my Dad

Skyping with Ben at the dinner table was nice. He got to see everyone. When he went to say goodbye, he was starting to get choked up. I don't think anyone noticed except me & his Dad. He didn't even go to the ship that day for Thanksgiving dinner. He stayed over at a cafe and ate a chicken sandwich. When he called yesterday he said that he heard that the dinner on the ship was really nice and I told him that he should have gone. It was one of those -see, I told you!!!

When is Ray's surgery? I know you said that it will be in December. How was your dinner with Ben & his Navy friends? I'm sure it was nice to have all those guys around the table eating all that food!!!

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

hello all.  is everyone recovered from turkey day?

We had a great time with the "boys".  It was so much fun to have some "hollow legs" around again, brings back many happy memories.  I used to call Ben and his friends the hollow legs or legs for short when he was in high school, cause those boys can eat haha.

glad to hear the shunt is working Dawn and that he got to come home!  glad that you got to skype with Ben.

let me know when you are ready to mail and I will too.

    off to kinderland.

  • quiltblue

My husband had a job interview today! They are supposed to let him know tomorrow. It's in sales (something he has never done), but it will allow him to utilize all the jobs he has had these many, many years... so hopefully it will be a match! The money is better (just to start) from what he made at his last job. God Provides... please continue to pray!

  • LLovesmysailor

    Hi everyone,

I won't be on line for a while. Christmas has finally gotten away from me. So, I'll be locked in my studio until further notice. I hadn't planned on going to Norfolk for Thanksgiving, so that put me 5 days behind. Now that we have a return date for Alex's sub, It will be another 5 days that I don't get anything done. Now, if any of you have an idea of how to get someone to put Christmas off for 10 days, please let me know. Since that is not likely to happen, I'll be eating and sleeping in my sewing room.

BTW, ME, your thread is in the mail and should be there sometime this weekend.

  • Maryellen

Lyn, Thank you I will get you a check in  the mail, Now remember that you have to come out once in a while to at least say hi to the hubby.

  • LLovesmysailor

ME, Forget the check. Merry Christmas.

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

    Hi all,

been busy this week getting things set up and sewn for my craft fair this weekend. I am happy that it is here at my house, cause then I don't have to haul it anywhere.  BUT I do wonder sometimes why I do these things to myself.

Raining here this afternoon and evening.  So a bad sore throat, but I think it's fatigue and weather.  sure  hope so!

Lyn what are you making?  Christmas, I don't even think about it until after the craft fair and often not until the 15th.  My mom was like that.

Well, I am going to head for bed.  Take care all.

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

and quilt, awesome about the job.  keep us posted.  Natalie, I love to play in the kitchen with my son.

last Thursday we had 3 handsome young men at our house.  where does the time go?

  • quiltblue

He got the job!!!! Praising Jesus all day! Celebrating! This will be a new challenge for him (and me). A new learning experience (sales engineering at 56!) I know it will be good for him, it will bring together all his previous experiences working into one! Manufacturing, welding, CAD/drafting, HVAC design, and teaching! I am so excited for him, he will start on the 12th.

  • Matt's Mom/Cathy

Congratulations on your husband's job quilt!  What a relief for your family especially at the holidays.

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

congrats quilt!  actually, it may not be as big challenge as you think.  with his diverse background, he will be able to speak from all sides.  will pray that he is successful!

we had rain all night and it's still raining.  It will be a wet bus duty.

I have a terrible sore throat.  have the afternoon off cause of my craft fair, and would love to stay home this am.  but I really think it's fatigue and weather related.  I will try and if it gets worse, "I'm outta there".  hhaha

    happy Friday to all!

  • LLovesmysailor

Quilt, congratulations on your husband's new job.

Sue, I hope the craft fair goes well. I'll keep Ray in my thoughts and prayers. '

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

hi ladies.  I survived school!  yeah!  The kids read stories to us today, so I didn't have to talk much.  I did get sleepy listening to them though.  had to take a walk in the cool air to wake up.

throat is better.  got the craft fair mostly set up.  people came before it was ready but that's okay.

sold a big picture that had been donated last spring for HAE.  I love it and 1 of Ally's beautiful cards.

yes, 12-12 is the surgery date.

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

I forgot to ask you all this trivia question yesterday.  What had it's 120th anniversary yesterday?

I built a craft around that anniversary, mostly out of recycled things and the kids loved it.

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

hello all.  Had the craft fair and did well.  Sold some things for HAE and I always like that.

Busy trying to get things done before Ray's surgery on Monday.  He is feeling alittle bit stressed.

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

ha, Natalie.  I was waiting to see if anyone knew.  The game of basketball was created on 12-1-1891, using a peach basket.

now some people have pointed out that Aztecs playing a similar game, but that date is credited with the creation.

we made basketball hoops out of egg carton cups, pipe cleaners, straws and styro foam cups, using pompoms as balls.  I saw that online but changed it a bit.  The craft was a hit!

Ladies, fond memories today!  2 years ago, HAE proudly delivered in person, pillowcases to the USS New York, our 1st ship on our own!  Ally was our mom coordinator and she did an awesome job!

long day at kinderland and then an AWANA Christmas store at church tonight.  This is the one where we wrap their gifts.

    Have an awesome day!

  • LLovesmysailor

Today is Dec 7th, the 70th anniversary of Pearl Harbor. The date that will live in infamy now join forever in history with 9-11. With so many WWII veterans gone and more leaving us every day, it is important that we all remember.

  • Maryellen

AMEN Lyn, My prayers go out to all the Family of ALL our fallen past and Present.

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

yes Lyn, I agree.  and that was what made the NY delivery so special on this date.

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

And welcome to AutumnSunset.  So happy to have you join us.  The projects are all a blessing!

  • m'smom

Just saw a post on facebook- Our pc's on the Bush are coming home!

Finally have the sports ones for CLB-6 ready to go.  Hope they get there close to Christmas.  Put in some candy canes and cards for each of the pc's.

Now I have to sort my fabric and get it under control so I can decorate for Christmas!!

  • Maryellen

m'smom, yepper the Bush is on its way home and in 6 days my sailor will be home for Christmas. I got an email from a young man on the Bush saying that he was thankful for the pillowcase while on deployment, he said it made things feel like home. I just cried when I read that.

  • quiltblue

Maybe I will get an email when the Bush comes home... never got a single note from them! LOL! The few I have received are extremely precious!  Another of my Sailors got their personal one. Here he is!  I love how they look at the camera instead of themselves in the mirror, but at least I got my photo!
