Boy, Natalie, you are having a great week. First you find your ring and then your son calls. My son takes his final test on Monday to qualify for the rescue swimmer program. We all have our fingers crossed. I guess no one is passing the swimming part of it around here so we are nervous. He really wants to get into the program.

  • Jodi-alumni Ship 4

    Thanks Natalie

  • Cindylaine (MN Mom)

Natalie-So glad you got to talk to your son.  It's always makes your day when you hear from them.

Sue-When we go to SD I'll let you know so we can meet up.  It would be great to meet you.

Jodi-Praying for your son!  Sending lots of good thoughts to him.

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

praying for your son today Jodi.  keep us posted!

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

Today is the 100th day of school in kinderland!  AND the kinder teachers are dressing up as 100 year old teachers for a parent.  1 is putting baby powder in her hair to make it gray.  I said "that's not a problem for me" haha.

I think I'll just wear a shawl.  Have an awesome day ladies!

  • Jodi-alumni Ship 4

Thanks for all the support Sue and Cindylaine. Josh is captain of his high school swim team and his specialty is the 500 yd so that test shouldn't be a problem. Neither should the other tests except the running (which isn't his strong point lol) so I keep thinking there must be something they aren't telling us since no one in our area has passed the test. Well, I hopefully we will know sometime today.

Sue, enjoy your dress up day,  it sounds like fun!

  • LLovesmysailor

my son's friend became a rescue swimmer. He was also a distance swimmer in high school. Most of the guys fail because they panic during part of the test. They are looking for guys with no fear of the water or of losing control in the water. Good luck to your son.

  • Maryellen

Ladies, I just got some really bad new today from a N4M friend of mine. A young lady from the Lincoln Lost her mother lastnight. She had a massive corenary and dies. They have flown the daughter home from the ship and she is in need of our prayers. We are not sure of what is going on and when I find out more I will keep everyone posted. We need to show this sailor what Navy moms are about. My friend Laura is in the same town, Lakeland,Fl and she will be getting in contact with the family and the Sailor. Lauras son is also on the Linclon and this young lady and her son are in the same division on the ship. This is a very sad day, I will be making a memorial pillowcase for this mom as soon as I find out more. Please keep this family in your prayers.

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

that is sad news ME.  I'm glad that they flew her off the ship to go home.  Keep us posted.

Jodi, how did your son do?

yes, 100th day was fun.  lots of collections were brought in, I just wore a crocheted shawl that probably looked like an old lady's.  But I made it in my 20's and still love it.  haha

  • Jodi-alumni Ship 4

Josh passed his test with flying colors! Thanks for all your prayers,  they really helped. Now he goes into the lottery which closes 1/24. He was told he would know sometime today so we are still keeping the fingers crossed and the prayers going. Thanks for asking.

  • Cindylaine (MN Mom)

Congrats to Josh!!!  Will continue praying and keep my fingers crossed.

  • Jodi-alumni Ship 4

Thanks, Cindylaine, and contrats on your son's wedding.

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

Congrats to Josh for passing his test!  I am not a fan of the water so I really admire those rescue swimmers!

Welcome to lynnvikings!  So happy to have you join us.

have an awesome day ladies!  today is my long day at kinderland.

  • Jodi-alumni Ship 4

Josh got the call this afternoon that he was accepted into the program! Now he has to go sign the new contract and find out when he leaves for bootcamp. Again, thanks for all the words of support. It was nice to have all of you behind him.

  • Cindylaine (MN Mom)

That's great news!  Congrats to Josh!!!!

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

Those Navy Seals are AWESOME!  Let's pray them safe!

Big CONGRATS to Josh on his acceptance!

Welcome to Frannie!  So happy to have you join us!

Your trivia for today.  Did you know that January is National Oatmeal month?

Made oatmeal clay yesterday afternoon with the kids.  supposed to dry rock hard, so I'll see today.

Kinderland was absolutely wild yesterday!  I came home, said forget dinner and went to bed for awhile.

Off again.  Have a great day ladies!

  • Maryellen

Ladies, As most of you know I have been doing the memorial pillowcases for the fallen service men and womens famliies. Well here is where I need your help. I need donations of Branch specific fabric.  I have some Marine and Navy but I need more and the other branches too. I will do all the embroidery work and make sure they are sent to the family. I just am in need of the fabric.  If you can help and would like to send a yard or two to me you can email me and I will give you my address toship to. Thank you for your help in this mission, it is a long and hard one but God is at my side and will be there with me through every stich. God Bless You All.

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

Maryellen does a great job on these very hard pcs to  make.  I often do the letters and those are hard enough.

I'll check out my fabric and see if I have some branch fabric.  Not sure off the top of my head.  I do have some of the Navy seal on red, not sure of the rest.

  • Maryellen

Sue thanks, I know what you mean about the letters. I worte that one this week and had to have Terry go over it cause it was a hard one. I guess God gives the gifts to those he knows can do them.

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

yes he does.  I think the 1st fallen letter I wrote was for the Ft Hood units and now I just use that one and tweak it for all.

thanks for doing them.  I checked out fabric and I have the "seal" from each branch of the service, but they are small.  So you will have to piece it.

Mailing for the ESB starts today.  And I made a pillowcase yesterday for them!  whoohoo!

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

    Welcome to ILLi!

Does anyone know if there is a national lighthouse month?

  • Jodi-alumni Ship 4

Google says August 7th is National Lighthouse day. Sorry, couldn't find a whole month for it. According to the Holiday Insight website, today is Backwards Day and Inspire your Heart with Art day.

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

thanks Jodi!  I save creamer bottles and we made snowmen last month and now I want to make lighthouses.  A day works for me.

backwards day-funny!  tomorrow it's dragons for me as it's the Chinese "year of the dragon".  AND I was born in the year of the dragon, so gotta make one. ha.

    have an awesome day!

Oh Oh Oh, almost forgot!!!!!   Ray went to the doc yesterday and they got the cancer!  they will test the PSA every 3 months for a year to make sure, but no other treatment at this time!

Thank you Jesus!!!  He said he "felt lighter".

  • Jodi-alumni Ship 4

    Sue, What fantastic news!!!.

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

    yes it is.  thanks ladies!

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

    WTG MAS and HAE

What an amazing story of love and commitment....just think all the heads that rest knowing someone cares.

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

Molly, what a fabulous story and photo!  Colton, a veteran now!  WOW!  I made that pillowcase in March 2009.  Melissa had asked me to do that as she was driving to VA to meet you and I was so happy to do it.  I didn't have much time nor much Green Bay fabric, but I did my 1st "pieced" one and I am so delighted that he loves it so much!

That was the same March that you took Ben and a few friends to dinner.  I now have more GB fabric, I should make him a new one.

Ben didn't shave either for a while after getting out.  He let his hair grow too and when he got to Tucson last June, I hardly recognized him haha.  But clean shaven and short hair is back.

I mention MAS in every letter that I send to the troops.  Thanks for posting both Molly!

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

Welcome to Sharon!  Questions?  Ask away.

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

Happy Valentine's Day to all!  I send you a big heart even if I don't know how to do those graphics!

Yesterday, Ray and I celebrated our 31st wedding anniversary.  The years have gone fast and it has been an adventure!  We met some very  handsome Viet Nam vets at the restaurant last night.  I didn't have a card with me, so just hand wrote the info.  If the respond, I will ask ME to do 2 special cases for these vets after she is finished traveling for a bit.  I hope they will respond.

Today is party day in kinderland!  Ray is coming too and he'll run the bowling game like he did last year.  The kids love it.  We made it out of soda bottles and decorated it with hearts and ribbons.

Welcome to broncosjenny!  Another mom from WI and we are happy to have you join us.

The 2nd wave to the ESB has begun.  Please remember to post a photo of your pcs and let me know when you mail.

Have an awesome day!  We are getting rain today and we can use it!

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

Mornin' ladies. Tucson had some weather other than sunshine yesterday haha.

We had rain, hail and snow at school yesterday.  Some even stuck to the mountains.  The kids were excited besides being Valentine's Day.

    Have a great day!

Well, I am off on another road trip to the great white north. I will be heading out in the morning (5am) and first stop is Hinesville GA, to see the inlaws for the week end. My Sailor will be meeting me there and then on Monday we are heading to Kills Devil Hills NC to see a Bush mom friend of ours. Then Tuesday its off to VA to get my daughter moved from the ship to her apt that she will be sharing with a few others. I ask for prayers for our travels. Hubby will not be going this trip they have to much work and can't get the time. Please keep him in your prayers, He has the flu and being a diabetic that can be rough. The doctor has him on som meds and he is sleeping a lot today so that is a good thing. I asked him if he wanted me to stay home and he said NO, Dani needs the help and all he was going to do is vegatate and sleep so Im off and running. Will check in to let you know how its going. Love You All. Be good and keep the sewing machines a humming.

Molly Molly... I loved your story. That is one of the most touching tributes to Sue and of course the the gift of homemade pillowcases to anyone I have read! I am so happy to be a part of HAE!  I have now made 32 personalized gifts that were sent directly to the Mom or the Sailors and they are so very pleased to get them. It makes me very happy to participate in this group. Have had a bad cold for some time and not been on this site for a bit. Will start working on my pcs again real soon!  ME have a safe trip, and hope your hubby feels better by the time you get back! Congratulations on your anniversary Sue! My hubby and I celebrated 34 years on NYE... it can be done! We are shooting for 60 or more!

    Happy Sunday ladies!

Had a great day of sewing yesterday at the pillowcase challenge!  I didn't sew, I was the "meet and greet" person haha.  I did cut some bands and flanges though and learned how to properly use a rotary cutter and mat.

I brought home 309 pcs!  and many pc kits went home with ladies to make so we will add those into the total.

An army recruiter came and spoke abit PLUS my son and his girlfriend, both Navy Vets came too.  I got to introduce them to all the teams.

    have a great day!
