Thanks for doing that Maryellen!   Glad that you made it safely to AL.  I see that it was raining there yesterday.  Dodge those drops haha.

AWESOME job crew!  I still can't hardly believe how many pcs we were able to mail to the troops last year.  To think that over 14,000 heads were put "at ease" thru our collective efforts is just amazing!

HAPPY New Year to all!  Today is the 3rd already!  Time flies by so fast for me.

I am catching up on some thank you notes that have come in.  I am posting them in the various threads.  Check them out.  I also brought the 2013 misc thread up to date.

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

check out the very cool photo in the 2013 thread.

Anyone have a child/friend/family member deployed right now?  I always like to do my crew 1st.

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

Just found this photo of me on FB.  It's from the 3rd Great Pillowcase Challenge held a the Quilters Maket in Tucson, AZ on 6-29-13.  I was being interviewed by a local TV station about HAE.  I think that I look pretty passionate about it.

    Stay warm everyone!

Sue, my neighbor/Sailor son's friend from across the street is stationed at Pearl; his brother is in the Coast Guard on the east coast.  I'd love to do both of their ships but don't know how to proceed.  I gave my son's friend a pc before he went to Pearl but am sure his shipmates would like some too!  Not sure how to proceed with the Coast Guard son though.  Any help would be appreciated!!!

    Nice picture too!  :)

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

are they deployed at the moment?

  • Maryellen

  • Jodi-alumni Ship 4

Maryellen, how nice that you found a place. My husband's best friend moved down there about 4-5 years ago so that's where we have vacationed for the past 4 years. We enjoy it there and have even discussed retiring there (the taxes are low!). Have a safe trip back to Fla.

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

    Hi ladies,

Just got this message from Maryellen.  You know that old saying "when it rains, it pours"?   Well, Maryellen is in a downpour and it sounds like it might turn into a torrential one.  Please pray for her and Teddy:

Updated: the house fell through, there was some issues the landlord has to address.
Also, just got a call from Teddys brother, my father inlaw had a massive stroke and he's comatose.  Not expected to make it. Can you please find someone to take my 23 for the Nitze. Right now I can't focus on much. Will you please put a prayer request on the HAE page for his dad.

Anyhow we are leaving here Wed 1/15, repeat MRI and pre-op visit with Dr Spetzler at the Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix 1/16, surgery first thing Friday 1/17/14 at St Joseph's. Happened all really fast thank the LORD. Claude the tumor has his eviction notice! Thanks for your thoughts and prayers. If all goes well I will fly home 1/28. • mrsb

    That's great news Sue!!!  Whew!!

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

    yes it sure is!

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

thanks T!  I was just thinking about her and wondering "where are you?"

    Praying!

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

YES, I have become a real wimp since I moved to AZ.  I was born and raised in Milwaukee so know what that cold stuff is about-that's why I live here now haha.

I explained this once to my parents who said the same thing.  When you are used to 100+ temps, often around 110 in the summer, 60 is a 40-50 degree temperature drop.

Not that it's cold like you have!!!  YIKES, can't imagine living in that kind of cold again.  I'd really be an "eskimo".  I do bus duty in the mornings at work, 7:30 am.  Our bus lane borders a wash and when the wind comes down off the mountains I freeze because it's damp.  So I call myself an eskimo cause I have hat, scarf, gloves/mittens and heavy jacket on.  I have to wait about 30-40 minutes outside until all the kinders are safely in their classrooms and I am freezing when I am done!

Yes, good snuggling weather and lots of hot soup!

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

2014 mailings have begun.  The USS Nitze was completed today as I am the last mailer.

check out the new numbers.  AWESOME!

  • Maryellen

We have made it to Birmingham Alabama, we have been busy looking for a place to live. The house we had lined up fell through so we are working hard to find a place. Please Keep my hubby Teddy in your prayers he has a job interview in the morning at 10am. This will be the first of many. I will keep everyone posted as time goes on.

  • Jodi-alumni Ship 4

Maryellen, good luck both on your husband finding the perfect job and you finding a new home.

  • mrsb

Maryellen, so happy you and your husband made it there safely.  Good luck wishes for a successful interview, probably right about now actually!  I'm 3 hours earlier out here!  I'm sure you'll find a nice place to live.  What an adventure!!!

  • Maryellen

Well hubby got a call back today from the interview, they want to check his referances again and then they will make him an offer on pay. It will mean a lot of travel but I am use to that so its no problem.

  • mrsb

    Hooyah Maryellen!!  That's great!!!

What does your husband do, out of curiosity?

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

    good news Maryellen.

Thanks for praying for Terry D.  here is an update from her:

    Hi Sue -

Thanks for mentioning my need for prayers in one of your emails to everyone.  My mom's surgery is scheduled for this coming Tuesday, Jan. 28th.  I am trying to rely on our one and only Great Physician for strength and healing, praying He isn't ready to take my momma home.  Thank you for your support and prayers.

Here is an update from Nancy B:

Hi sue. Doing well. Got staples in my head taken out today vision in right eye not good but hopefully will improve with time. Fly home in the morning thanks for checking on me Nancy

Please pray for a safe journey home tomorrow and for Terry D's mom's surgery tomorrow.

  • mrsb

    Prayers coming their way!

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

    thank you!

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

here is an update from Terry:

I know this is later news that you were hoping for.  After a small set back late afternoon, Mom is finally done with surgery.  Everything was moving along successfully; when the surgeons were attaching the new synthetic aorta to her original aorta, they encountered some tears and were having issues getting them bonded together and some dealing with excessive bleeding.  Rick and I immediately went into prayer warrior mode, and elicted prayers from several friends.  God answered (as He always does!) and we made it over that hurdle.  They finally finished surgery around 7:30 and we met with the surgeon just before 8:00.  He is optimistic to this point, but tells us the next 12 to 24 hours are critical as they watch for internal bleeding, possible blood clots escaping to her brain, lungs and kidneys to regain function on their own.

SO - the overall news is great - Mom is alive and holding her own after a very long, involved surgery.  By this time tomorrow we should have more definitive answers about her overall prognosis.

Thank all of you for your support today, thru emails, texts, phone calls, etc and especially through prayers.  Please continue for God's healing hands to be on my mom as her body recovers.  More tomorrow.  God bless.

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady
