If anyone wants to mail a card to Terry, I do have her address.  Just shoot me an email.

Here is an update on crew member Nancy, who had the brain tumor:

    Hi Sue
Yes this is my 4th week back at work, was able to go back part time 24 hours per week right now. Working mostly 6 hour days but am dog tired when I get done. Know it's just going to take time for the fatigue to improve. Fortunately my boss was willing to work with me for awhile, which I totally appreciate. Vision improving slowly in right eye about 60% blurry now which is better than it was, I do have to have a repeat MRI in June as a followup to check on 2nd smaller tumor that is still there which best just behave itself cause nobody is cutting back into my head anytime soon. I don't have to wear the pirate eye patch over my right eye anymore but do have to wear my contacts along with reading glasses when I'm on the computer. The reading glasses are new but they do help me from getting so tired while on the computer. I did get the final pathology report on the tumor that was removed and it was benign, praise God and should not grow back.
May is fine for shipping pillowcases. If we have more made by them I will advise. If you need us to ship sooner just let me know and yes thanks in advance for the pre paid shipping labels.
    Nancy

Ladies, Please keep Ft Hood in your prayers, there was another shooting there today. Sue, Douglas, Amanda and the kids are safe. This base takes a special place in my heart and to hear a shooting has happened again just brought me to my knees. Lets all Band together and pray.

Lord be with the friends and family at Ft Hood, be with them as they try to sort this all out. Be with the family of the one that was lost and the many wounded. wrap your loving arms around this base and protect them. Amen.

  • mrsb

    Amen Maryellen.

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

This poor base!  My heart breaks for them.  A young soldier from my church is based there.

I remember well the day of the 1st terrorist attack there in Nov 2009.  I went to Curves later that day to work out.  The worker asked me if HAE could send the base pillowcases and I explained how that worked.  Plus, I assumed the security would really tighten after the attack.

Little did I know then that Ft Hood would become a very important base to HAE.  We have been able to mail to all the units who were there that terrible day, plus we continue to send pcs to troops deployed out of there.

Another Navy mom sent me a photo of a solider leaving from there Thanksgiving weekend 2009, Dori researched the photo and found out they were from Ft. Hood.  And Maryellen has a BIL who was able to help her get a contact at Ft Hood.  The rest is history.

And did you know, that we also made pillowcases for the USS New York in Dec 2009?  I still think that attack had something to do with the ship being commissioned that same week.

Praying for them.  Thanks for the prayer Maryellen.

Alex's high school was Franklin Regional in PA. It is the school where 24 kids were stabbed. 4 kids are still in critical condition. I am asking all my friends to pray for those still in very critical condition and the rest of the kids who have a lot of healing to do.

  • mrsb

LLovesmysailor, many prayers are coming your way. So difficult to try and understand why these things happen.  Take care.

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

that is a sad situation Lyn.  Do you have an update on the students?  I haven't seen anything else about it.

I had a baby celebration party last Sunday for my grandson.  Turned out great!   But I was so tired afterwards and of course still had to go to work.  So I am slowly catching up.

New numbers posted and we are mailing wave 2 to the Bataan this week.

Happy Easter!   Jesus is the Reason for the Season!  Someone sent that to me and usually you hear that at Christmas but it sure applies to Easter.

  • Maryellen

This is from the USS Halyburton

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

New numbers ladies!  great job!   We started slow this year but we are kicking it up now.

Nice coin Maryellen.  Can you post that photo and the letters in the misc thread as well?  It's a nice honor for everyone when something like this is sent to a HAE crew member.

  • LLovesmysailor

A very Happy Mother's Day to all !

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

Happy Mother's Day to all of the fine crew of Heads at Ease!

We couldn't take care of our troops in our own unique way without you!

Jodi, thanks for the beautiful bouquet of flowers for us!

My gift to you this on the special day is new numbers! I want you to see what we moms have accomplished, not only for our own children, but for the many children of other mothers!

    AWESOME!

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

Another gift for you today.  I heard from the POC for the MI Army NG unit.  He finally received all of the pcs that were sent the other day.  He was going to hand them out today.

Now how cool is that?  A handmade gift from moms who are strangers to soldiers who are far away from their mothers on this day.

    I like it!

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

    Happy Friday!

Only 6 more days of school for me!  YEAH!  I'm tired.

Just posted a fun email in the Bataan

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

It is Military Appreciation Day today!  If you see someone in uniform or a Vet, thank them for their service.

Of course, we should do that everyday.

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

check out the letter of appreciation that I just posted in the 2014 group.  It names 4 peeps, but it really is for all of us who are so faithful to make and mail these pcs.

My thanks to you HAE CREW!  You are awesome!

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

AND, I am chatty today haha.  I see the end of the tunnel for this year!

My hubby and I are watching a new series on the Hallmark channel called "Signed, Sealed, Delivered".  It's really good.

We record them and last night we watched the 4-27 episode titled "To Whom it ma y concern".  The story line involved a pillowcase that was sent to Afghanistan!  Watch it!  And you will see that what we do here at HAE could and does make a difference!

Get a tissue box handy though!  Enjoy!

My new granddaughter Ariana Faith along with grandma and grandpa, mommy and daddy (my youngest). She was born 5/20 at 12:02 am She was 6lbs 11oz and 19 inches long. Baby has stolen all of our heart strings and has her daddy wrapped around her little pinky. Hope  everyone has an awesome  weekend,

  • Maryellen

I just want to wish everyone a safe and happy Memorial Day. I hope that everyone is doing well.

Please keep me in prayer, Monday I was told by my doctor that I have gestational Diabeties. I will have to change the way I eat and loose some weight, but for now ALL I need is prayer. I have all the tools to help me but it is a big change in my life and at my age I really don't like change lol.

  • Dana (David's Mom)

Are you pregnant? Gestational Diabeties is while you are pregnant, do you mean Type 2 adult onset? My husband and several friends have this also and with diet (the correct type of foods which can be a pain in itself) and medication (if you are been prescribed some) it's quite easy to manage. My husband had to quit  drinking beer and that was the biggest problem for him (he was a heavy drinker) but has overcome and for him at his age was hardest of all. Prayers and stick to your dr's plan for food etc. It becomes easier after you make it a new habit and it becomes part of your everyday life style. Have a great Memorial Day weekend.

  • Maryellen

Yes I ment type 2 adult onset, my mind is just racing. Im biggest thing is the weight and my Iced coffees. They have me on metformin  for now. I am going the low carb right now. I see the dietician next month. Thank you for your prayers

  • Jodi-alumni Ship 4

Maryellen so sorry to hear about your diagnosis. My husband has that but getting him to take care of himself the way he should has been a work in progress. Prayers being sent your way. Please take care of yourself, you are such an important part of HAE, we need you around for a really long time!

NitaSewBee congrats on your new granddaughter. She is a cutie!

  • Maryellen

Jodi, Thank you for the prayers and kind words, I am going to change a lot of things in my life except 1. I am staying here at HAE until the last Military person comes home or the Good Lord calls me home.

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

Dana, I love your question!  haha   Maryellen, perish the thought of being pregnant!  I was tested for that when I had my daughter but didn't have it.

I'm sorry about the diagnosis and taking care with your diet can and will make a big difference.  watch out for the sugar free stuff.  That gave one of my sister's big problems.

I am DONE with school for 7 weeks!  Today was moving the furniture and getting the CARE buildings ready for deep cleaning.  I am tired.

But baby Alex is coming the next 2 days and I can't wait!

Nita, your granddaughter is so cute!  Congrats to you and your family.

  • Dana (David's Mom)

Sue, I did have it with all three of my pregnacies so knew the term and was confused. Thought there was a mistake in terms. LOL, pregnant at this age??? OUCH. My oldest son is getting married in two weeks and they are hoping to start a family asap. Can't wait to be a Grandmother. Hopefully I will be able to share a pic someday.

Maryellen, take care. It's a new path to live but I'm sure you are up to it.

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

I think she is up for it, especially if you feel better.

Congrats on the wedding Dana!   Did you make your dress?

Do they live close to you>

  • mrsb

Mary Ellen, prayers will be all around you so hang in there!

Nita, what a cute little grand-daughter, how proud you all must be!

Dana, congratulations on your son's wedding-how cool is that!!!

  • Dana (David's Mom)

Sue, they live two miles from me and I am making all the groommans vest and ties so no, I didn't make my dress. I had one in the closet I have never had an occassion to wear (on sale for $20.00 several years ago). Next Saturday I'm flying to Washington to drive my Navy son home for the wedding. He hates the drive alone (10 hours) and I get a mini vacation as I'll be there for 3 days till he gets off work then drive home. I love it as I get him to myself for hours on end and get all his stories first hand plus I love to drive. Win/Win.

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

sounds wonderful Dana!  enjoy the drive and that special time.

  • Dana (David's Mom)

I always do. I never know when a girl will take over that place of being the number one female in his life. I know it will end one day but take advantage of every minute I'm  given to be with them and not have to share. Fortunatly my soon to be daughter-in-law is wonderful and shares. I hope she will become somewhat like a daughter someday (she had a bad Mom so it is going slow but OK)

  • Maryellen

Sue, At 52 and having a total historectomy  there is NO WAY I'm pregnent hahaha. Thanks everyone, Im doing good my last sugar reading was 94 so Im staying in range.

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

I thought that was a pretty good chuckle haha.  Good for you!

do you put sugar in your iced coffee-why is that bad for you?

Oh Dana, you are so right.  But you know what, if your new DIL is open minded and willing to share, you can still have some special times together.

  • LLovesmysailor

ME, sorry to hear about the type 2 diabetes. I have had family members with that same problem. They all did well by substituting complex carbs for simple carbs (sugars, like white sugar and some fruit sugars). I does take a lot of label reading, but now there are a lot of very good medications you can take.

As always, thinking of you and sending good wishes.

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

diabetes seems to be on the rise and I still think it is the result of all the preservatives put into our food supply.

speaking of food, my sweet 3 month old grandbaby just ate about 6 oz.  He is growing so fast!

  • Maryellen

I am learning so much as I go along with this, they have me on metformin and it seems to help. I have to watch what I put in my mouth and that's a good thing.

Sue NO sugar in my iced coffee, I get a flavor instead that is not too sweet. been good and just not getting them. I will use them as a treat.
