We got to see "The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus" on Friday night!  Fabulous concert.   They are headed to San Diego today and then to LA for 1 concerts.  Go see them if you can and tell them you are with Heads at Ease.  Ronnie is very pro-military and his brother is the reason that we mailed to the 380th AW in June.

We met them for breakfast on Saturday morning.  Here are a couple of photos:

  • Jodi-alumni Ship 4

Great pictures Sue. Wow your hair is getting long!

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

thanks Jodi.  I am on a mission to donate it in the spring.  I do an early morning bus duty at school along a wash.  In the winter, the wind sweeps along it from the mountains and it's cold.  I have become such a wimp about cold weather since I moved here.

so once the cold goes in the spring, I will see about donating it.

    Ladies,

My daughter is in need of our prayers, she has been going through a lot of problems with a root canal that was done on the ship before she changed duty stations. I would like to also do a card blitz for her, letting her know that we are praying for her. Her Birthday is Sept. 10th and she wanted to go see the night life in Italy but now she can't go.

If you want to send a card please email me at mepeller090410@gmail.com, this is my new email so please make the change.

Thank You All and God Bless

On a good note, I am working on a few ships for us, its been hard with everything that has been happening overseas. I have also received a couple of nice thank you notes and stuff and will post them tomorrow. I have been busy trying to help my daughter and get things unpacked and put away. Keep the sewing machines humming and build your stash. Sue and I will keep you posted as we get more groups.

Posted new numbers today.   We took it slow in August so I could adapt to being back at work full time again.  It was a tiring month and some of that is the heat!

Sorry to hear that Dani is still having trouble with that root canal.  I had the root canal from hell in Feb 2001 and it still bothers me with heavy oppressive weather.  I call it my barometer tooth.  Praying for her!

I think I have her address, but would you send it to me again so I can make sure that nothing has changed.

I finally heard from the AF unit that I have been working on for 2 months.

Happy Sunday and the last day of August!  A 3 day weekend for me!  Woohoo!

  • Maryellen

UPDATED: Dani will be flying to Rota Spain on the 8th, Surgery will be on the 9th and maybe on the 10th. Depending how bad it is they will do part one day and part the next. Her Birthday is on the 10th. She is just happy that the end of this long ordeal will be over soon. They have taken her off the antibiotics for now since nothing is helping. She is holding strong and tuff. I guess she gets that from her mama. She will update me if she can while shes off base. I will update everyone as I find out more. Thank you for the prayers, and she ask to keep praying she can feel your prayers.

  • Maryellen

Well its that time, tomorrow at 9 am (Spain time) 2 am AL time Dani will be at the hospital for part one of her surgery. I did get a call from her today and there was not even a hello, all she could say was pray with me mom. my heart sank to my feet and I prayed for her. I will probably not sleep tonight. I will sleep with the phone in my hand. I will let you all know when I find out more. Keep the prayers and cards going, she needs us all right now. Thank you all.

  • UBU'sMom

Maryellen, you both are in my prayers!
  • Maryellen

UBU's mom, thank you, it's going to be a long night

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

will be praying for you both tonight, every time I wake up,.   Which is often.  keep us posted!

  • Maryellen

Just spoke to Dani, they did all the prep work today and packed her with antibiotics over night. Tomorrow at 8:30 and her time they will do the actual surgery. They have to remove the tooth and clean out the infection. They will have to take a small part of the bone and replace it with human bone so it will heal faster. while they have the tooth out they will make sure there is no infection inside the tooth itself. they they have to shave the roots to put it back in. She will have about 20 stitches and then she will go back to her base on Saturday. She said something strange about this, she said mom I have peace with all this, Im not freaking out and Im not scared. I told her that it was God and all the people praying for her, she said yes I know. Maybe this will bring her closer to God, maybe this is his way of saying you need to come back and live for me. This child used to sing in church almost every Sunday. Thank you all for your prayers, I will keep you posted.

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

that is a POWERFUL testimony Maryellen!  gives me the goosebumps!

And having dental work scares me since 2001 when I had the root canal from hell.

I am really impressed that they will put her tooth back in!  Isn't God amazing that He has created us with such wonderful bodies to heal like this?

Praying for her.  Keep us posted!

  • UBU'sMom

Mary Ellen, thinking and keeping u both in my prayers tonight.
  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

    praying for her and you.

  • Maryellen

Well It is over, I heard from her today and they got everything cleaned out them new bone in place to hear and they found a cyst. They say that that was what was causing the problem and thank God they found it or it could have been worse. the tooth is fine no infection in it and they shaved the roots. She has 8 stitches and a lot of pain but in good spirits. Thank You ALL for your prayers.

You know sometimes you run into people that just don't take NO for an answer, Well my daughter has a CO that is like that. He finally told Dental on the base to get her to Spain and get this fixed. He didn't take NO for an answer. I thank God for him and him watching after my young adult.

She will return to Italy on Saturday and back to work on Monday.

  • Jodi-alumni Ship 4

Maryellen, good for her to have someone like that in her corner. She must be a very special young lady for him to go to such lengths to make sure she gets the best treatment. I pray she will recover quickly and completely.

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

Praise the Lord for her persistent CO!  I'm glad that it's over.

8 stitches is better than 20.

    new numbers posted

  • Maryellen

Well I just spoke to Dani this morning. They are keeping her in Spain till Thursday. She has some swelling and they did not want her to go back till it went down. They did not have to remove the tooth, they went in at the gum line and got the cyst and everything else done. She got her stitches out this morning and the first thing she went and got was Ice Cream. She still has a little pain but the doctor said that should go away in time. They put her on some antibiotics as a precaution and they said all looks good. She ask me to tell everyone Thank you for the prayers. She is in great spirits and is missing Italy.

Thank you all for your prayers, It has been a rough time the past 5 months with all this.

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

Well, today I had my face painted in green scales to look like a snake.  I was brainstorming with the kid in the afternoon for our fall festival and the girl in charge of face painting wondered how that would look.

I volunteered to the model.  turned out great.  Ray took a photo and I'll post tomorrow.

    Ha, I love it!

  • Maryellen

Well Dani is back in Italy, she is still go a little pain from the healing which is normal. She is doing good just trying to catch up on things and rest. She has to check in with Dental in the morning then back to light limited duty. Thank You all for your prayers and concerns. Thank you for sending cards and boxes, I know she will love them all.

here is a view that many of our sailors get to see.  I saw that too when I went on the Tiger Cruise in 2008:

    Good morning

this is what we are about:

Cindy S.,  Linda (AZ), Betty O, and Findlay High School (OH):
I want to personally thank you all for showing love to my husband while he was deployed to Afghanistan. He loved the personal touch each one had to include the hidden thank you button in the inside.
He told me about the pillow cases and then when we had a chance to Skype,  he was always hugging a pillow that had one of the home made pillow cases on them. It was so refreshing to see him have a piece of  "home" with him. It means a lot to me that people still genuniely care for our deployed Airmen, Soldiers,  and Marines. Thank you for your selfless support!!!

Sunny in so AZ today.  We had lots of rain this week and since we've been in  a drought for 10 years, it is very welcome!  But it is nice to see the sun again.

Happy Saturday to you all!  Alex is coming to spend the night with grandma again!

    I love this song:

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

Happy Lord's Day!   Tucson is sunny and bright this morning with a bit of a chill to the air.  NOW, a chill for me is 65 degrees!

Don't laugh, I had 96 or so on Friday afternoon when my afternoon job hosted it's fall festival-mostly outside.  The theme was Pet Shop and the title was "the pet games have begun".  All the games had clever pet names.

Here's a photo of me getting face painted.  I thought she did a snake.  It wasn't until I saw this photo that I realized that I had a fish.  No wonder the parents looked at me odd when I said I had a snake.  The other cheek had a butterfly.

  • GFTatter

Sue... what info do you need for a ship? My daughter is on a carrier in port right now, but they will be going out within a year. And where there is a carrier, there is a support group ;-)

I am going to a family meeting in a few days and I can get info or pass info along at that time. But what info do you need? Thanks very much.

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

    Hi GFTatter,

do you have my personal email address?

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

    DRUMROLL Please!!!!!!!

New numbers are posted!!!  Check them out!

When I sent 4 patriotic pillowcases to my son and his "cube" buddies in June 2008, I never dreamed that alittle over 6 years later, my desire to "make a few pillowcases" would result in a group with a catchy name nor would we ever make and mail over 50,000 pillowcases!

I am impressed and AWED!  This wasn't my plan or goal, but The Lord has blessed it mightily and is was His plan.

Thank you to everyone who has gotten on board and has contributed to this number!

The USS Makin Island is finished-in 4 waves!  We have another ship starting next week.  If you have pcs, fabric, $ for shipping, please contact me.  Remember, HAE is a grassroots group totally funded by donations from the American people.

I meant to write yesterday, but got to stay home and decided to make 4 pcs-but I ended up making 5 and finishing the seams on 9.  A good day of sewing for me.  Here is a photo of my inspiration for HAE.  This was take in Oct 2008 while on the Tiger Cruise on the Lincoln.  It was such a moving sight to see as we passed the USS Arizona Memorial.  The sailors each saluted as the Lincoln glided by:
