Happy Anniversary to Heads at Ease.  Today marks 7 years since I began HAE, all because of moldy peach muffins! Pillowcases were plan B.

Who knew they would be so popular and 7 years later HAE has made and sent over 58,000!  AWESOME job!

Mary Ellen, I bought a serger last week and was just playing with it-good Lord it makes sewing the pillowcases so much easier and faster!!!  I can hardly believe it!!  Of course I'm just using the thread that came with it, haven't tried changing the thread yet!!

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

good for you Sandy!  I have never tried using one of those.

I can never figure out how to get these to play

  • Maryellen

    MsB,

Once you use a serger you won't go back. That is all I use to make PC's with. What kind did you get? There should be a guide on the inside cover to help you through, make sure you follow it and you will have no problems.

  • Maryellen

Sue, The video  is awesome, thanks for sharing.

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

glad that you liked it.  I couldn't remember how to just post the video.  I have done it but it escapes me at the moment. haha

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

Wrote an update tonight and if you didn't get it and would like to, please pm me your email address.  I got this reply already:

Just wanted to let the group know that my son that deployed in '13 and was honored to receive a pillow case still uses it. In matter of fact he is leaving for his 2 weeks of training this Saturday and it is packed to go with.
Thanks again for all that you do!

to go home.  I am asking people to mail him a card for a blitz!  He will be there until mid August.  If you are interested here is the address please contact me for the address.

Please tell him that you are part of Heads at Ease.  Thanks so much!

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

New numbers are  posted.  The Essex is finished.

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

I have survived 3 very busy weeks at the beginning of school starting and it's  been so hot here!  Makes doing lunch duty outside very hard.

That said, I have updated the numbers.  And check it out.  With wave 1 to the Rushmore done, we have gone over 60,000 in 7 years!  AWESOME!

Thanks to all who have contributed to HAE thru sewing or donations.  You have done the work.

If you haven't been involved or it's been awhile, I have groups waiting to be done.  And we can use the help!  Remember we are a grassroots group, not a 501c3 which means we don't get assistance from bigger donors.  But we manage to plod along and make a big impact!

    Thank you!

  • Mommamac MM(CVN77)

I have 15 done, when is the next wave? Hope things are going better for you school. Please let me know.
  • Maryellen

    Mommamac,

the nest mailing is this week, Sue will send an email with the address and dates.

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

    Hi Mommamac,

I was at my son's yesterday and couldn't access this.  Thanks Maryellen for the reply.

Wave 2 starts on Wednesday and I will hold it open until finished.  At this point, I need 97 more to finish it.  So if you'd like to mail, send me an email.  That is easier for me.

On another note, I fell as I left my son's house and hit my head.  I needed 4 stitches which runs from my right eyebrow up.  It's covered with a big bandage so I don't know what kind of "seamstress" the doc is haha.

I am feeling pretty beat up today.  I hate falling.

  • LLovesmysailor

    Hi Sue,

I'm sorry to hear that you fell. I know how you feel. Well, anyway, I have 20 pcs that I can mail this week.

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

Thanks Lyn.  Me too.  It is such a scary feeling cause it's fast and there is nothing you can do if there is nothing to grab hold of.  I am thankful that it wasn't worse.

Thanks for the pcs!  I will put you down.  Address tomorrow.

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

here is a scary photo of me yesterday.  The black eye is turning yellow and I didn't get the stitches out yet!

My dad passed away today at the age of 90.  He was a Navy veteran and where I got my love of the Navy.  He served in WW2.

This is in honor of him and all of our military, past and present and the ones who sacrificed in the terrorist attacks against us since 9-11-01:

  • Dana (David's Mom)

My sympathy goes out to to and your family. I pray you find peace and comfort in the days ahead.

  • Eagle

I am very sorry to hear that news, prayers to you and yours. It sounds like your Dad had a life well lived!
  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

thank you everyone for your kind words.  His death was not unexpected as he went into hospice care at my nephew's house.  BUT he still is a shock to the system to get the news.

My sister who lived with him said that he got many cards from the HAE crew and I am so thankful!  He really liked that.

  • Vickie360

    ANCHORS AWAY

    By Carol Coddington

    9/12/15

For Sue, in memory of her dad

    On the anniversary of 911

A sailor died and went to heaven.

God said to him, welcome to my ship up here,

Welcome home, oh sailor so dear.

Please know that I have been waiting for you,

And there is a job I have for you to do.

Send back a sign to those you love,

Let them know you are fine here up above.

No problems, no worries, no troubles or pain,

Just the love of the Lord is what you still gain.

Let them know that the ship you are on

Is led by the Father, and steered by the Son.

Let it be known that you have thrown your final anchor overboard,

And have finally come home to sail with the Lord.

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

new numbers and Carol is a HAE crew member

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

Oh, it has been awhile since I was last on here.  I went to Milwaukee for my dad's service and when I got home I hit the ground running.  Today I am finally getting to slow down and catch up a bit.

Military honors were done for my dad as he was a Navy vet. I tried to film it but I got a blank.  My sister did and I have posted it on FB on my page.  When she emails it to me, I can post.  What a moving site that is!

I read Carol's poem at the service after I talked about my dad abit.

I posted new numbers as wave 2 for the Anchorage is done.

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

I'm behind on thank you notes.  But am going to start to catch up so check out the Essex etc.

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

Happy Veterans Day to all who have served this great country The United States of America.

You are all eagles in my opinion, which is such a magnificent bird and why we have it as our national bird.
At school this week, I have been having the kids make "American Hero" cards which will go to veterans. I told them that our American Heroes are our military, not celebrities or sports figures.

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

Here is my Veteran manning the rails out of Pearl Harbor in Oct 2008.  It was right after Tiger Cruise that I heard about N4M and joined.  I am very proud of my son who served 5 years in the Navy.

  • Jodi-alumni Ship 4

Good for you Sue. To often kids look up to the wrong people and it is sad.

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

I do my best in my own little world to help kids to think in a better way.  There is way too much focus on the celebrities in this country.  And our vets go unnoticed or are reviled.

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

WOW, where does the time go?   Too fast that is for sure.  I hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving,  I cooked my dinner on Wed for my family.

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

We have 4 new members that I would like to welcome today:

mom of a corpsman, trioguem, classycalicat, jaymiep.  My apologies for being so far behind in welcoming you!

I also posted new numbers.  Since I posted in October, we have mailed to 2 ships and are finishing up a 3rd today, as I am the last mailer.  the numbers will change again.'

Next week, we are visiting the Army with a couple of small groups and 12-7, we start a new ship.  I will post about that later.

thanks for all of your support!
