I guess this is just a tiny taste of what we will be going through in the future...I really don't think I care for it much. LOL
  • CherylB

Ken as long as you give yourself the right answers to your questions and laugh at your own jokes you will be OK! LOL
  • CherylB

Ellen I sure hope your back is feeling better soon. I am suffering bad with mine right now but no surgery. I can't even imagine. Have a great weekend and only reach for the high stuff. LOL
  • CherylB

Oh Ellen that sounds terrible I had no idea it was that bad! So glad it was worth it. Sure hope your back to your activities soon. What did you have done...It has been so long since I chatted with you I forgot They talk about back surgery for me and I am still recouping from foot surgery so I say NO THANK YOU!
  • CherylB

If you don't know what cornhole is it really doesn't sound to good does it?! LOL
We have it but I think I have only played it once. We bought a pretty expensive set and found out our friends had the same one and if it get damp at all..even from the dew it will come apart! They just don't make things like they use to.
Spinal Fusion sounds pretty intense. Can I ask what was wrong that they had to do that? Just wondering if that is what they are thinking with me.:(
  • CherylB

Opheila it can be played indoors if you have enough room. You space it out like washers...but you have beanbags so you won't break anything. LOL
A garage, basement or long room would do. Hey good idea...I will have to remember that this winter...thanks!
  • tinkerbell

    Hey,
Just poking my head it to see what is happening! Your guys still hanging in there?
You are too funny Ken! Have you had a kidney stone? I hear that is as painful as childbirth! And I tend to believe it! I was an ER nurse and we could just about diagnose a kidney stone from the description people gave!!
  • CherylB

That would be one short game Ken! To funny!
  • CherylB

Hard to believe my son has been gone 1 yr today. It has gone so fast yet seems like so long ago. They are amazing aren't they??!!! They have come a very long way in that year.
  • CherylB

OH YES!!! It is like when you go on a diet and you can't eat something that is the one thing you want more than anything!
Seems like it has been a month already. Not looking forward to deployments:(
  • ProudFamily

I have saved an old message on my voice mail and when he was gone, I could play it and hear those great words: "Hey Mom!".... My friends think I'm half crazy, but I have you all to let me know that I am not!
  • CherylB

Ophelia my son loves the jerky from the local meat market...the USO says that they love it when I bring in a ton of jerky and slim jims from Sams Club. Not sure what else they would like that is mailable.
  • ProudFamily

I just was thinking the same things. Had a great long conversation with my son last night. I hung up smiling about him, and I said a big Thank you to God for the gift of him. He sounds like he is in such a good place right now, mentally and emotionally. He is loving everything he is doing right now. I hung up thinking how proud I am that he is on his own, making wise decisions and loving what he is doing (even though, I will also wonder how they "love" training). I think some of it is upbringing, but I also think our constant prayers are right there keeping them together.
  • CherylB

Good morning! Nice to see the conversations flowing again. I just spent a weekend with some of the most amazing women.... Navy Moms! I met them here on N4Ms and we have gotten together once before in Charleston and this weekend they all came to my house. All our sons are doing something different but we are all still their moms and very proud and have the ups and downs that go along with that. Amazing that I could meet 16 other women I love so much on an internet site!
Soon we will hear from our young men. It seems like it has been 2 months already...come on time....FLY!!!!
I like the ideas for the goody box...never even thought of some of those thing. Thanks!!
    Have a great day everyone...:)
  • CherylB

I live in MO but we all met in Charleston for a beach vacation. This trip they came to me. Including some of the hubbys. It was great.

Pass this link around to everyone you know. This SEAL bike team left Coronado today to raise money for families. It was shown on fox news today. If everyone on N4Moms gave 10.00 just think what that would do for the fund.... Forward it to everyone.....
  • CherylB

San I agree. D turned 19 the day they went to Mt Laguna. I told him what a great experience. Not that many guys get to spend their 19th bday doing what he is doing!

Go to the above page and scroll to the bottom to see if this group will be in your area. They want people to cheer them on as they ride across America to raise money for families of SEALS.
  • CherylB

Thanks ProudFamily. My hubby and I will be going to Florida when they will be there and I know we plan on going to the Navy Seal Museum so I think we will have to arrange it to see both on the same day. Appreciate the info!!
  • ProudFamily

A must read below about the SEAL killed last week...

Now that my son has a place to live, it's easier to send packages to him. Sometimes it took over a week for him to receive a pkg on base. I guess I'm going to have to begin getting creative in what i send him. He keeps asking me to send him my meatloaf!!! hahaha
  • ProudFamily

    kingsbbq.com
they overnight bbq, ribs, hushpuppies, veggies, etc.... soooo good!
    also
dinewise.com rather pricey but very good pastas, meats, etc.
  • go-navy4

Once they move into their apartments it's easier to send a pkg. I've sent 2 so far via UPS with no signature required and they leave it at the front door. If it's something of high value, then i send via parcel post needing signature and they have to pick it up at the post office.

By the way....2 days left is a really good sign!!! Good luck for all your boys
  • go-navy4

Don't ask me. Mine made me wait 7 hours past the time all the other parents heard!!! hahahah
  • go-navy4

He said he was hungry and needed to get some food. He didn't think it was such a big deal!!!!
  • CherylB

I haven't heard either ellen. Soon I hope.
  • go-navy4

Congrats to all your sons! I remember telling my son I was so exhausted waiting for the week to end, even more exhausted then him. In a monotone voice he just said "i doubt that". hahahaha
We just can't even imagine what they've really been through. So happy for all of you.
  • CherylB

So glad you all got your calls. Sorry I missed mine. I should hear from him today though. I can't wait to hear all about it. Have a great weekend!!
  • CherylB

Finally got to talk to D yesterday. He to sounds great and had a lot to talk about. Love the new patch for their uniform. It is so cool looking.

Ophelia I ask D if he knows your son and of course he does and he says they are friends. I told him you were going to give him a big hug from me if you see him!! You people that get to go are so lucky I sure wish I could.
Have a safe trip and enjoy!!

    Hi Everyone,
There have been quite a few families that are trying to figure out who are in the following 3 groups: 281, 282 and 283. Is there anyway people can PM me so that i can put together a list and pass that on to the 3 groups? My son is in 282. We'd all really appreciate it. Thanks
    Terry
  • ProudFamily

Mine also called so excited with all the good stuff! He kept talking about all of it and he usually is the one fussing when I buy too much stuff for Christmas. We are getting ours a gun for target practice. I hate the thought of it, but I know he wants his own one for practice which apparently they do in their free time. We had to tell him becuase we had to have the permit. I also know a lot of them enjoy cooking out so I am investing in some good grilling tools and toys. Last year, I just shipped everything the day before he left to go back and the presents were there in a few days for him to enjoy opening again! I am also giving gift cards to restaurants near them in San Diego. There is also a small digital camera by Fuji that is waterproof, around $170.00 that I have looked at for him. He has a good camera, but this one is smaller and the waterproof protects from water and of course sweat. Even if they aren't camera buffs, all the guys I know that have served have enjoyed havin a camera so they can share their life with those at home. Just a few suggesitons. I would love some from everyone else.
  • ProudFamily

send me camera info when you get it. I was also thinking about a kindle. THanks for the book suggestions. I was going to get the sequel to "Three cups of tea" since that was a suggested read by a special ops speaker I heard the other evening.
  • ProudFamily

I also am getting the name of the grocery store near his apt and getting a gift card for the stocking from there.
  • ProudFamily

Wow! I have been looking at the books by Tom Brown, Jr. and there are some great ones.
KT How sweet and Happy Birthday!
  • ProudFamily

One more idea from a friend who has been there, done that....
good noise cancelling head phones. His emphasis was on long battery life. These will come in handy for long deployment flights.
  • CherylB

You guys are great! These are all great ideas! Thank you so much. I was at a lost. I was going to get him a massage. He loves them and usually goes to Massage Envy but the gal I use is so good and she will make a home visit.
If you all think of anything else please keep posting them!!
  • CherylB

    ASPEKT
