For moms (and dads), wives (and husbands) and girlfriends (and boyfriends) who survived PIR February 19, 2010 - Including Ship 14 Div 095-100, Ship 7 Div 101-102 and Ship 6 Div 913
Maryalice, I'm really not sure. He doesn't say much about the guys that he knows when we talk. I'm sure he does though because my husband is head of watch.
I still have to pack. I am leaving the house at 9am for the airport. Oh and I talked to my mom and I think she is once again going with me to the airport. Her reason for not wanting to go was because she thought I wanted to be alone with Shawn. That is what the 20-30 mins I wanted is for;)
Lol, she knows exactly what that time is for. Besides I don't think she realized that her being at the airport is like all of you moms being there. Besides it is in public and I will just be happy talking to him in person.
Lol, trust me when I say you won't have to. A few others you might need to, but I will be spending some time down by him in March so I am looking forward to that!
Thank you, Colleen and slimsam and everyone. Our son called a few hours ago, enroute to Ft. Benning. He sounded excellent, spirits were extremely good. We told him how we had thought of trying to talk him out of it, he said, "Oh no, Mom and Dad, my decision is made and I am very happy with it". It put our minds at ease. We now await the "I've arrived" call tonight. We took our 11 yr. old out for a bite to eat tonight to help break the ice of having both of her brothers now off to the military. She is faring well. All of our spirits are much better tonight, Thank God!
To ALL of you moms and dads enroute to the Great Lakes, PLEASE have a wonderful time! Colleen, if you get a chance please give our son a huge hug for us. You all must be overwhelmed with the joy in anticipation of all of this.
Us moms staying here, we will be with you in spirit and we send our love and best wishes. Please post when you can, and keep us updated. Congratulations, Navy Moms! (and dads and wives...everyone!) This moment has been one we have all been waiting for. Stay safe!
Navy/Army Mom: What's your son's first name and division? If I see him I'll take a picture for you - we are practically neighbors - you're in Lilburn and I'm in Duluth.
My son is David in the 98th Div.
I made it to Chicago...not difficult getting from OHare to the hotel. Had some lunch at Anastasia's, very nice folks there! Drove by the base, easy to get there too. Relaxing in our very nice room...can't wait to see you all! Safe travels! Oh yeah...the cold is not too bad at all!
Okay, yesterday's flight made it into SFO okay, I will hope today's is the same. I just found out we will have to go the entire distance across the airport to get from one flight to another. Ick
I so can not sleep. I am trying to put all of the letters that Shawn wrote me together to carry with me on the plane. Maybe they will give me the strength that I need to get on it and make it there with my sanity still intact.
Okay, I looked up my CEC to SFO flight, it has been two hours late for the last two days. Right now I am getting in *just* in time to go to the Anastasia's Meet & Greet. If I am late I might not make it. :~(
ukmom, I've sent you a message but I bet you've already left for the GL. We'll definitely get together when you get back as we are so close to each other.
Donna, I'm here too. Any other moms staying behind who we can be with here too? Everyone else, have a safe trip and a wonderful day traveling.
We left yesterday afternoon about 3:30pm and made it to Bowling Green, KY by one am. We are getting ready now and will continue to head north. We saw oodles of baby deer on the side of the road in TN (major hwy - why weren't they scared?). And we have seen snow piled up in drifts in KY - though it was in the last stages of melting.
Safe trip for everyone, love to you guys keeping the home fires burning. See you in the windy city!~
Look at that number up above, 1. I love it!!!
Those of you keeping the home fires burning, know we'll take lots of pictures and share them on this site somehow. Who knows a good way for all of us to share lots of pictures?
Those of you going to PIR, Safe travels! See you soon. :)
ALERT - this is Arwyn's hubby - her flight got delayed and she won't make it to the pizza thing tonight (Thursday) - regrets to all. But she has a flag! expect her in CHI @ 11:00 - ish. It's okay to call then.
Soccer & Joymar - that is so fun! I'm so glad that you got to see each other.
(((((Navy/Army)))) - thinking of and praying for you and your sons. I'm sorry it was harder not easier, but I'm glad that you are working through it.
O, we are here. Staying at Navy Lodge - anyone else that staying at Navy Lodge will you give me a shout out? We are Rm 164 and I want to follow someone to Anatastias as I need to focus on driving on the patches of ice, and not looking at my mapquest (hubbys orders :-)

PIR is over. I recieved a call from my son, he said it was unbelievably awesome!
He said it was even far greater than he and I guess the other sailors even knew it would be. He said the drums were tremendous and thunderous throughout the building!!
Moms, await your calls if you haven't already received them. My son was able to call me right away because momofjustin allowed him to use her cell phone.
CONGRATULATONS to America's newest Sailors in the Fleet! WOW WOW WOW. :)
We are back in our hotel room after PIR and a very nice lunch!! It wa so awesome.....Jasmine...I feel so bad, I didn't get any pics for you....we had a bit of drama, my autistic son got lost in the crowd at liberty call...I have NEVER lost him before and thought I was going to DIE!!!!! The RTC was just awesome in assisting us and we found him after about 15 mins sitting outside in the snow, he was very happy sitting there playing in the snow and I and my other children are completely traumatized.....My Sailor is just so beautiful and I am in awe of him!! We are hanging out in the room feeling very protective of our youngest....and contemplating a trip to some museums tommorrow. Pics coming soon.
