I don't plan on going anywhere. This was the only place that helped me once I had found it and even in the new groups it just ain't the same. They are too big unlike this family we have here. I just hope that I don't get confused when posting to Arwen since we belong to 3 of the same groups.

Can someone please make Friday come faster or even March 5th? The only highlight of my days now is talking to Shawn who spends his time these days wishing we were together so he could take care of me. That was the only easy thing about not talking everyday. He didn't hear how shitty I feel and feel bad about not being here.

Oh Arwen before I forget. Shawn said for IT that he was told if he finishes everything in a month then he can go for E4. He said the only catch that he has found out so far is that they must sign on for another year making it 5yrs.
  • Sarah (BooBoo)

Beverly- Yes I did turn it in. It was not as good as the first one but there was nothing else I could do about it. I think I have gotten something else on top of my ear infections since I seem to be going backwards.
  • RosaEdsmom

Joymar~ Did the Navy give Matt's W2 to him?
  • Sarah (BooBoo)

I think it's in mypay. I really have no clue since Shawn does them and I will just have to sign something down by him.
  • Beverly

Well, I'm in it for the long haul....you guys aren't getting rid of me!! :-)

BTW: Where is Scott? I need his scarf for our N4M museum.

Back to the paperwork grind. Joyce - I'm working on FTE counts. yuck, yuck pooey - patooey.....do they have those in NJ?
  • DebbieinCA

    Rosa and Beverly,
Sean was supposed to be going to SC this morning too. I haven't heard from him though. It's starting to worry me. Do you know how Ed got to call so quickly?
  • DebbieinCA

Happy Birthday Jasmine, and Congratulations! That is a great b-day present!
  • Scott Proud Dad of Brian

    Ok Beverly

  • DebbieinCA

Scott, You're looking very stylish in your yellow hat that matches the yellow/gold on your Pensacola hat!
  • DebbieinCA

Beverly-Hey! I read what you said to Rosa!
Mel and Arwen are sure to be right behind me. ;^)
  • DebbieinCA

I'm not going anywhere either! Especially after getting to meet some of you wonderful ladies!
  • DebbieinCA

Mel - We're upset that you missed the meet n greet, too! I was at the Navy Lodge on Sunday night. Were you still there then?
We're just gonna have to plan a So Cal meet up. :)
  • Sarah (BooBoo)

I still don't plan on going anywhere. I saw Beverly the one night when I was sitting outside my room talking to Shawn.

Mel- I agree. I sure have missed getting calls. Shawn just got his cell phone but up until then I had to remember the area code. By the time I am done I will be able to map out area codes!
  • Arwen

Chris has only been at Corry for one day and already he is LLD. Medical thinks he has strep throat. Ugh. He just got off of SIQ last week for a nasty "purple octopus rings" rash (probably caused by chemicals in the water at BS21) and pink eye. He has never been sick so often in his life! I think they're inventing new illnesses just for him. It's a test, right? LOL.
  • DebbieinCA

Arwen, I'm sorry Chris keeps getting sick! Just think of the great immunities he's building up for when he gets on a ship/sub.
  • DebbieinCA

Mel, You couldn't have been behind me at PIR. I was up against the back wall in the balcony. ;^)
  • Arwen

Is that photo for real? Or is it one of those background things? I could handle doing the background, but there is no way on Earth you could ever get me into something like that for real.
  • Navy/ArmyMom

Arwen, Very sorry to hear that Chris has been sick. I know a lot of them had Strep Throat towards the end of RT. My son did. Sure hope he gets better soon and stays good and healthy.
  • Navy/ArmyMom

Moms, just wondering how everyone is feeling now. I know that we're all proud and happy that RT is over. I'm feeling better today, but I've found this part a bit stressful too. It's great that we can talk to them, but I'm still working on getting used to them being away from home. I'm so glad that we have each other. I feel sure that y'all can relate to what I'm describing.
  • DebbieinCA

Navy/Army Mom- yes, we know how you feel. The idea of them not coming "home" is not easy to deal with. How far is your sailor's A school from your home town?
  • Arwen

I hate hate hate the fact that I have to work all day. I get here in the morning just as things are starting, then I come home to read up and post my responses, which aren't seen by anyone until the next day.
  • Navy/ArmyMom

Debbie, we'e very fortunate, he's only 5 hours away. I'm really counting my blessings on that!

I saw a picture over a year ago of that building in Chicago (is it the Sears Tower?) and how you can have your picture taken on that glassed in ledge. I immediately put it on my "Not to Do List". :)
  • Arwen

LOL, we're still hanging out here at the top of the first page of groups.
  • LittlePonyExpress936

anybody have a sailor in Groton??
  • Janie - ProudSailorWife

littleponyexpress - my husband is in Groton.
  • Sarah (BooBoo)

Shawn has either 1 or 3 I think. I am going down this weekend if I think I can make it. I just got back from the doctor and they were like you're young and have arthritis in both knees so here is a cortazone shot and brace and have fun driving. I need to take tax stuff to him so it's kinda important that I go. Plus he said they heard rumor last night of them possibly being in phase 2 this weekend even though from what he said about muster last night I don't think so. Oh and about the spending. I was very careful about what I spent it and then he goes and blows most of it on a new laptop so we now have 3 computers. Oh well, he mailed it home and will get here when I am down there for spring break. I guess I get to play with it until I feel like being a nice wife and bring it to him.
  • Sarah (BooBoo)

Thanks. Yea this is my 5th orthopedic surgeon. I go back next week to have a shot in my other knee. They wanted to do both today and when I said sure go for it they saw my face and decided against it. Plus I have to drive about an hour to it because I was not driving 20 mins to one who started out as a vet. Oh the joys of having tricare all of my life. The only saving grace is I actually have a handicap thing for my car. Like I said before taking care of me is a full time job and yet I looks so young and feel like I'm much older.
  • Arwen

Chris is SUPPOSED to give us his address today. Everything is boxed-up and ready to go, except for the address, by the time he calls our post office will be closed and he won't get his box until Monday or Tuesday, at the earliest.

He wants his phone so bad, I think this is decent payback for all those things I had to wait for during boot camp.
  • Beverly

    I want a telephone thingy!!! :-) LOL
  • Beverly

Good pic Scott....okay - you are officially off the hook for all things relating to yellow scarves. BUT - did you get any pics of Steph, Bryan and Lex? Hmmmm????
  • Sarah (BooBoo)

Arwen- just make sure he knows to when the mail room closes because that is what stopped Shawn from getting his phone until today. Oh and they might hit phase 2 on Wednesday from what I hear. They were rumor to hit it this weekend but after last nights muster I knew they wouldn't from what I heard.
  • Arwen

I got Chris' address today, and sent his stuff within an hour. He should have it by Monday. I hope. The public phone booth he's using has lousy sound quality. I can barely understand what he's saying.
  • Arwen

Colleen, I keep getting rid of one kid at at time. Last weekend it was Sean and I at GL, this week we sent Erin on a long weekend trip with her school. But we just can't seem to get rid of that last kid, even for a night.
  • Sarah (BooBoo)

Arwen- The sad thing is I know that exact pay phone.
  • Beverly

Well, I spent a nice hour on the phone with Phillip. He is sooooo much more relaxed. He wants us to bring his electronics up THIS weekend. LOL. I mean - we just got back Monday NIGHT!!

Besides the fatigue factor and the fact that being gone recently put me behind in work, this is probably the best weekend. Have something to do nearly every weekend this month. Whew! I guess I was thinking on going during Spring Break in April.

There is no Navy Lodge in SC. I'm mulling over whether to go early Saturday and come back Sunday. One of his Div 913 friends is his roommate (they got to pick) and a nice guy from NC is in the adjacent room. He says they class up in two weeks.
  • DebbieinCA

Phyllis, There is a Navy Lodge. It's called Foster CreekVillas. I hear it's old navy housing, 2-4 bedrooms, fully furnished, full kitchens, full baths, dishes and silverware. They book early though. Call the IT office between 11 and 6 at M-F, 11-4 Sat at (843) 764-2120 for reservations.
  • Navy/ArmyMom

Wow, momofjustin, you're gonna be really free this weekend! Please give Stephanie our best regarding her trip!! That is so exciting. Are they traveling by bus with the school or by plane? the girls must be so excited!!

I know you're very proud of your kids and with good reason!

Beverly, how nice that you had a nice long chat with Phillip. They all seem rather anxious to get their "pads" (he-he) otherwise known as barracks set up!
I can't blame them. They've worked hard and they deserve it....AND...they have A LOT OF STUDYING AHEAD OF THEM!.

Will we get report cards??! :) I don't want to make too many jokes, as the level of studying these NP sailors face is HUGE. A lot of serious studying awaits them. I SO hope they all do well. I'll be praying for each and every one of them, not just my own. I hope they will support and encourage one another.
  • DebbieinCA

Phyllis, I hope you can get everything done...AND...take care of your boy's tech needs. ;^)
  • Beverly

I upload some more pics to my 2/19 photo album. My daughter took the ones I added, so they are MUCH more clear and maybe helpful to anyone looking for a glimpse of their kiddo.

Navy/Army - You are right, he is very interested in making his room more homelike. :-)

I'm falling asleep sitting here, so I guess I need to go to bed! See you guys later. If I'm not online - I'm in SC checking out the new pad. :-)
  • Navy/ArmyMom

Goodnight, everyone. God bless each and every one of you and may God keep you at peace regarding your very special, and outstanding sons and daughters.

I pray that although every moment in their life will never be perfect, that they are at ease and comfortable as they try to settle down in their new home away from home and prepare for this next phase of their lives. I pray that they know every minute of every day just how much they are loved and respected by their families....and quite frankly....by their whole country.

God bless them and keep them safe.
  • Arwen

Michelle, the "cell phone thingy" is a cell modem. Plug it into a computer and instant internet! It costs about $30 per month if you already have existing service, which is not bad if there is no internet service available in barracks.
  • Beverly

Jasmine - regarding the civvies. Phillip is in SC and can't wear his for four weeks but he wants me to bring some to him so that he will have them there when he can wear them! And he said boxers, boxers, boxers, boxers when he was making his list. LOL

    Have a good day sisters....
  • Sarah (BooBoo)

Michelle- I was saying that from what I heard there were people messing around during it and so they were threatened with something but I don't remember what it was.

Beverly- Shawn said the same thing which means since I normally wear them as shorts I have to give some up. Plus he said he will be able to wear civ clothes next week.

Well I am off to Pensacola for the weekend to hang out with Shawn and some other guys on base. Let's hope my knee can handle to trip since it is feeling so much better. Besides the thought of seeing Shawn will keep me going. It's a good thing my class on Monday got canceled! Talk to you guys Sunday!
  • Arwen

LOL, Chris actually prefers briefs (boxer = pajamas), he just doesn't like the white ones so much. He wants his cotton-waisted ones sent to him. Next week we're sending him a seabag full of his clothes. At IT school they get to wear civvies as early as 10 days after arriving!
  • RosaEdsmom

    I agree...:/
  • Arwen

Corry Station is a mixed base, it has students from all five services.

Chris says the Army guys at Corry are "special like a short bus." Apparently they have to carry rifles on watch (he says "it's an army thing") and because they aren't allowed to have live ammo on a Navy base for barracks watch they use blank clips, which are marked with orange. They have "lost" a clip twice in the last month, which triggers a base-wide lockdown until they find it.

Chris also said there are places all over base with rocks that spell out various words. He was hanging out with a group of guys who decided it is fun to "adjust" the rocks to change the spelling. My dear boy said he laughed along with them, and as soon as they left, he changed it back. I told him to be careful, that if anyone came along at the wrong time it would look like he was the one vandalizing it, not fixing it!
  • DebbieinCA

Arwen- funny story, and good advice! Ha, ha...I'm so glad the Army guys who can't keep track of orange ammo clips don't get any live ammo!
  • DebbieinCA

Beverly, Thank you for taking so many great pictures of the PIR! It was especially sweet of you to take pics of each division as they walked in. I hope you don't mind, but I copied and pasted the one of Div 102 onto my computer. ;^)

Where is everyone this morning? Watching the tsunami waves? (We have a tsunami warning here from the Chile earthquake - don't worry, we live 100 feet above on cliffs).
