Looks like it took me an hour to read through a week's worth of posts. I know some of this is old news, but....

Colleen - I am so glad that your hubby is ok, and I hope you guys have a nice, restful weekend, and that you get the hang of this kidless thing soon. LOL

Sandra - I'm so proud for Nichelle - please let me know how she is doing!!!!

Nuke moms - Phillip was talking about having to wash the same room over and over and over and over again....it was driving him crazy! He says he can't wait to class up and get things moving. We had gone to see a Navy museum with a WWII sub and a WWII air craft carrier - we made a wrong turn and ended up on the wrong end of the base - there was a HUGE factory type facility with all sorts of smoke and other, uh, residue bellowing out of the top (can't be good for breathing) - but Phillip said " that's where we'll do prototype!!" - he was so excited! :-) I was thinking "yea-h" (NOT - and I was beginning to wonder if my future grandkids will turn out ok).

The museum was cool - it was called Patriot's point and uniformed military get in free, family members visiting with uniformed military get in half price which is helpful since adult tickets are usually $16 and kid tickets are usually $9.

Paperwork is calling....I'll check back later and see if anyone has come out to play. :-)

Beverly, my husband is from Georgia. He grew up in Athens, where one of his uncles still lives. His parents live in Lilburn and his youngest brother is in Tucker.
  • Sarah (BooBoo)

Okay so all I have to do now is wait about an hour to put the fish back in it's tank and get like 3 1/2 hours of sleep before I drive my 6 1/2 hrs to Pensacola. It's a good thing I have my beef jerky and red bull for that drive!

Beverly- At least we aren't alone. There are a few others that live here as well.

Arwen- Shawn said it was fine and we hang out with several people anyways and trust me when I say they are far from normal. We usually go bowling or watch a movie at the rec center. Besides Shawn is pretty tolerate of people since he does put up with me and he will admit I am a handful that keeps him entertained;)
  • DebbieinCA

Sorry I haven't been on much. I've been so sick!!! Just when I think I'm getting better, it kicks my butt again.
I'm weak today, but thinking I'm on the mend. Do I dare say that aloud? Hee, hee.
  • DebbieinCA

Phyllis-Congratulations on David classing up! I'm so happy to hear he likes the area.
Arwen- Phase II already. That's awesome. Sorry he's feeling bored and lonely. It seems the last time I was on here he was having too much fun. What a roller coaster, huh?
  • DebbieinCA

Beverly-It's good to see you on here. How was your visit to Goose Creek?I haven't been on much either because I've been sick. I've been sick since getting back from PIR. I tell everyone I got bootcamp flu ; ^ )
It this is what our sailors had, I'm even more impressed that they pushed through all that PT and studyes while sick. This stuff kicks my behind!
  • Navy/ArmyMom

Very sorry to hear you've been sick, Debbie. It sounds as though you need to try to really relax for a few days in order to make a full recovery. Maybe a movie and the sofa are in order! We sure hope you will feel all better soon.
  • Beverly

I'm sorry you guys have the bootcamp flu- my husband is has been sick since we got back too - Friday was the first day he seemed to feel good again. I don't know how the kids got through bootcamp with the crud - but they sure did push through!!

Goose Creek was nice - it was a very quick trip - so I'll have to go back and see more. Phillip still hasn't classed up - said maybe next week. The navy is taking them to see Patriot's Pointe on Monday (the museum we went to see while I was there). He and a bunch of the guys rode the Duty van to the mall.

Get better Debbie!! Navy/Army - did you go to Goose Creek yet?

Arwen - so we might be cousins!!! :-) I grew up in Atlanta!! :-)
  • Sarah (BooBoo)

Wow today was long. I only managed to get 2 hours of sleep before I drove the 6 hours. We hung out with a friend of his most of the day and just got back to the hotel. Oh and remember how I came back from PIR weekend with that double ear infection? I am getting another one and I just got down here. At least the hubby can try and take of me this time and no flying is involved!
  • Arwen

Cousins? LOL! Um, I'm not sure being in the same state makes people cousins. Otherwise, as a Californian, I have an awful lot of cousins (at least more the 60 or so I already knew about).
  • Beverly

Well Arwen - technically we'd be cousins by marriage.....:-)

BooBoo - BEHAVE!!!!! Get well, be careful, have fun, get back safely! Don't make my mommy-itis kick into gear!
  • Janie - ProudSailorWife

Good morning everyone. I haven't been on in forever and been trying to read some to catch up. I kinda hit a low of missing the hubby again but I've decided to drive up to CT next weekend to see him. I can't wait 3 more weeks like we originally planned. He is doing great, starts indocs for class on Monday. He's been pretty bored so I know he's excited to finally start classes.
  • Janie - ProudSailorWife

Bill's mom - yeah i've been looking and debating for a week and driving is going to be my best bet.
  • Janie - ProudSailorWife

Hmm I wonder if your son is one of the guys that my hubby hangs out with. He said that a couple of them are guys that came from GL with him.
  • Arwen

Chris is in a strange school, he's not ALLOWED to study outside of school. Apparently his study materials are too top secret to be removed from the school building. He also said that his school building is the second most secure on the base.

Considering how much he studied at home when he was in high school (never), and how much he told us about what was going on when he was in school (nothing), I think nothing will really change. He's been "top secret" since he was born!
  • DebbieinCA

Hee, hee. Arwen, Chris sounds like my boy. Sean's school is the same way. I can't wait for him to start. He has way too much lagtime and boredom right now.
The Navy seems to know how to motivate them though. If he does well, he gets fewer mandatory study hours. Smart of them!
  • DebbieinCA

Hey Mel, I'm sorry you're missing Sonny so much. How long is his A school?
  • Arwen

I think after the hyper-controlled, insanely busy boot camp, the much more laid-back schedule of A-school is bound to cause problems, especially if they end up in holding. Chris hasn't really had any down-time yet, except weekends and after class (he finished CORE on Friday), but he has no clue what to do with the 5 hours between the end of class and taps, and he's already acting like a whole weekend is the end of the world.

Next weekend should be better, with his grandparents there for a few days.
  • DebbieinCA

Yeah, Sean's in holding, waiting for nuke A school to begin. I guess they're really backed up at Goose Creek. I hear it's because of a prototype school being down for remodeling/repairs. Two guys are being crammed into closet-sized rooms meant for one. They just brought in bunk beds. I guess it's bigger than what they'd get on a ship. :) Yet, there are still more nukes coming in from bootcamp.
  • DebbieinCA

    Good Morning Ladies,
I start a week of teaching 5th graders today. We're off track for 3 weeks and I'm teaching a one week summer school type class. Wish me luck. I really hope I don't make anyone cry. Disciplining 8th graders may make me too tough for these little ones.
Phyllis, I don't know what's going on with Sean. He doesn't have his phone or laptop yet, so communication is sparse. Last Tuesday was the last time I talked to him. His laptop is guaranteed to arrive by tomorrow. I sure hope that changes things because it's driving me nuts not to have any communication with him!! Bootcamp was better than this. Atleast then, I got letters.
  • DebbieinCA

Pam, Congratulations to you and Justin!
It sure makes a mama happy to know her boy is happy. :)
  • Sarah (BooBoo)

Good morning. I think I have finally become okay with Shawn's choice too. Maybe it has something to do with me sitting in a hotel room eating cereal and doing homework or that he spoils me when we are together. Besides the fact that he thinks he can finish his school in 1 month just to be with me does make it look better;) Oh does anyone know how to fend off a ear infection? I really don't want to have to try and find some where to go when we aren't in a good area. Plus it isn't killing me yet but it is bothering me.

Shawn has duty today which means later after class I get to go spend time on the base. At least we can sit in the laundry room with the laptop. Not to mention I can throw a shirt or two in with his clothes since they need to be washed per his orders.

Beverly- Since he can't spend the night so much ain't going to happen. Plus with my knees killing me and this stupid ear infection that keeps coming back I really don't feel good. I was smart and brought the xbox down so he played it yesterday while I curled up in his lap and took a nap.
  • Arwen

You can go to any post office and pick up the boxes there. You don't have to wait for them to ship them to you.

Also, if you send the stuff in a suitcase or seabag (which you can get at Army/Navy stores), UPS has a "luggage rate" which is mostly meant for people who don't want to deal with airline luggage issues. Also, it provides a way for your recruit to move the stuff. When stuff comes in boxes, they have no way to move their stuff when they move from A school to their duty station.
  • RosaEdsmom

Hey Ladies~ Hope all is well.
Colleen~ Good question...I would love to know the answer. I just spoke with Ed. He said that they will more than likely class up (MM) next week.
Arwen~ lol. Too funny:) Nuke school has the same restrictions.
  • DebbieinCA

Hooray! Sean got his laptop today. Now we're IMing of Facebook. Oh, it's so nice to get to talk to him!
  • RosaEdsmom

Hey Debbie~ WooHoo!!! They have been found. lol. I have decided...Amanda really needs to go to BC.
  • DebbieinCA

Sarah, you're a Navy wife now. Go to the doctor! Ear infections can cause long-term damage. Besides, why be sick when you don't have to?
Rosa- Ha, ha, ha...Be careful what you wish for! ;^)
  • DebbieinCA

Sean says, "Classing up means you join a class, after which you still have a week or so of briefs before you actually start the academic stuff." I'm lovin' Facebook right now!
  • DebbieinCA

Oh yeah, and Sean classes up next Monday, 3/15, then starts the academic stuff the following Monday.
  • DebbieinCA

Sean's lovin' being in Indoc. He works about 6 hours a day polising metal, then goes back to his barracks where he bought an Xbox 360 and his roommate bought a top of the line 40" HD TV. I'm glad they have to do their homework in class because they'd NEVER get it done in their rooms. ;^)
  • Arwen

Chris texted today that he and the others holding while waiting for classes are given work to do for the day. Unfortunately they severely underestimate the time it takes, and they finish after a half-hour and are left with nothing for the rest of the day. He is stressed by the boredom and says he understands why some recruits get in trouble. And this is only his first day of holding. Hopefully it doesn't last very long. As soon as his clearance comes through he will start school.
  • Sarah (BooBoo)

You know it never surprises me how stupid some people can be. Needless to say I am glad about that in a weird way. Shawn was told that because there were so many ship-backs that he will most likely never have to do watch.

Debbie- I probably will end up going to the clinic if it gets worse. If I was home then I would just go to the doctor. We think I never got rid of the one from PIR weekend but this time the hubby can try and take care of me.

Arwen- There are a lot of people already getting in trouble. There are groups going out and getting drunk and most of them are underage. I am sure that Chris is hoping to get Bravo shift for classes. Shawn started classes today and is in Alpha which PTs at 4 am. No one wants that shift for that exact reason.
  • Arwen

Chris told me he is scheduled to "badge-up" tomorrow, which means he has completed the clearance screening and gets his security badge. Then as soon as they "class up" for IT (which happens weekly?) he starts school. Hooray!

Cynthia, sorry to her about your son's computer. That sucks. Maybe your homeowner's/renter's insurance will cover it? Just tell them your son took it to a BBQ and what happened to it. They may just cover a replacement.I'm pretty sure you can count him as a household member until/unless he establishes a "permanent" residence (an address he pays for himself) in another location.

Chris did something similar once. We bought him an iPod for his high school graduation, $450 nice big one that can hold several movies. He put it on his desk, then walked away. We looked for the thing for weeks. Then I yelled at Chris to take out the garbage, and to check in the basket before taking it out. Chris was so sure it wasn't in there he never really did much of a check. Somehow it must have slipped off the desk and into the garbage basket. He never even got to put music on it! We didn't have renter's insurance at the time, so it was money lost forever.
  • Arwen

Hey, any news on Nichelle? Has anyone heard anything?
  • Sarah (BooBoo)

The ear is okay and from what I can tell it isn't really changing much except the constant headache. Shawn said he would call the clinic to see if I could go if it got any worse. At this point I just wish my knees would stop hurting.

Slimsam- No I am sure that he isn't one of them since NAS has a lot more rules then Corry. Plus if they were on the same base Shawn would of told me if Sam was involved so no worries there.
  • Arwen

OMG, we're still on the freaking front page. LOL. PIR Feb 19 forever!
  • Arwen

I talked to Chris today, he classes-up tomorrow! Yay!
  • Arwen

Chris got his clearance on Monday, and today he was told he starts school tomorrow.

The clearance takes as long as it takes, I guess. If people aren't home, or if they have more questions about something it might take longer.
  • Scott Proud Dad of Brian

Sandra, that's good news. glad she's doing better.
  • Arwen

So, who will graduate first, Nichelle or Nick?
  • Arwen

The only difference between men and boys is the price of their toys.
  • Arwen

I wonder if the other groups think we're freaks. I can just imagine the other PIR group conversations...

"Yeah, that PIR Feb 19 group just can't move on."
"You'd think they would have gotten a life by now."
"Do they realize their sailors aren't here anymore?"

I guess they don't realize WE STILL HAVE ONE THERE! We refuse to slow down until after she graduates! Then *maybe* we'll be good little A-school moms/wives/girlfriends and quietly step back to the second or third page.
  • Navy/ArmyMom

Just stopping in to say hello. I sent Sandra a message regarding Nichelle. :)

I hope you're all doing well. I'm very busy now tracking and supporting our son in Army Basic Training. He's doing well, thank heavens. Taking it letter by letter, phone call by phone call.

I'm still missing both of the boys tremendously. I hope that you're all doing well. I miss y'all. I'll check in more often.

I was so proud to see that we're STILL on the front page! It shows we haven't lost our Navy Mom spirit. :) Arwen, your post about what the other groups think about us (still being here) really made me chuckle! :)
  • Sarah (BooBoo)

Arwen- That made my day. I think they just don't realize that we have a really great group of people here and thats often hard to find.

Slimsam- I actually called a recruit Monday night but a bunch of people. I guess it is because I was wearing a navy hoodie and look young enough to be there. I was waiting for it to happen since I have made friends with a few people down here and actually hang out with them when Shawn is busy. So in a 24 hr span I went from being told I was 13 to a recruit.

Sandra- I am so happy that Nichelle is doing better. I have become good friends with a girl from her division and she loves getting updates about her.
  • Sarah (BooBoo)

It doesn't bother me unless they refer to Shawn as either my brother or dad. Then it's just annoying and it has happened more then once.
  • Arwen

Today Chris met a student who has been in holding for a year. Oy vey!
  • Arwen

I used .pdf format. It's easy to create and everyone can see it.
  • Arwen

To be in holding for a year, several things have to go wrong. First, problems with clearance, which I have heard it can take up to 2 months (worst-case scenario). My brother's best friend was in holding for 4 months due to problems with his citizenship. His father was a citizen, but his mother was not. Then other paperwork problems, or health or injury issues. Then that sailor would have to finally drop into eligibility right after a group classed-up. Some schools take as long as 2-4 months between classes.
  • ukmom

Good morning ladies, it's good to catch up with all of you. We went to Charleston last weekend and had a great time with David. They are apparently in briefings this week and MM school starts on Monday. Good luck to all of your sailors!
  • DebbieinCA

    Good Morning Ladies!
I'm catching up here and just have to say, I was cracking up reading about the other groups trying to catch up with us for chattiness. Good luck with that! We have such a great group, we've formed some lasting friendships, we're not going to let those disappear, and we always have so much to say to eachother. I think it's official. We are the chattiest! ;^)
I've said some of this in PMs, but I'm so happy for all the good news: recruits progressing toward sailor, moms getting to chat with their kids, visits to our kids new schools, and wives and girlfriends getting more contact. I'm so looking forward to hearing about future wedding dates, new adventures, and new additions!
    Talk to you all soon!
