For moms (and dads), wives (and husbands) and girlfriends (and boyfriends) who survived PIR February 19, 2010 - Including Ship 14 Div 095-100, Ship 7 Div 101-102 and Ship 6 Div 913
It wasn't just the fight, I'm sure. First, he was kicked out of school. Then after the fight, when he was on restriction to the ship, he missed a couple of musters. These things add up. If he had a perfect record, he probably would have simply gone back to normal after his restriction period, but the other little things added up, I'm sure, and tipped the scales toward discharge.
They're discharging people for such minor things right now. He might have survived all of that, had he been in the Navy during a different era, but with an over-manned Navy, they're not inclined to give anyone much rope. It doesn't take much to hang yourself.
Again, I'm so sorry Arwen! I'm sure your heart breaks for him. I really, really hope this turns out to be a life lesson that puts him on a track to success in the civilian world!
Very big hugs to you, Arwen. I actually cried when I read this. Okay, we know that God works in strange ways. Things will work out for Chris. There's another plan for him.
Hang in there. I know that you'll stay with us. In so many ways, they're all our kids.
Hi Melissa, glad to that hear all is well. I agree with Sandra...try to enjoy being in Norfolk while you're there.
I hope that everyone had a nice Easter. I really missed our sons yesterday. : (
It was our second Easter with them away and I've decided that I'll never get used to this.
I made a special dinner for the three of us here. Towards the end of cooking the kitchen was getting kind of hot. I'm sure glad that Thanksgiving does not fall in the warmer months. We have not turned on the A/C yet, but probably will soon.
Okay, I guess the hot weather is just around the corner now. The one good thing is that we expect our son home from his deployment sometime in June. So if it takes hot weather to get to that time, then I'll take it.
I'm with SlimSam and Army/Navy Mom. This Easter was sad. I don't know why it's so much worse for them to be away on a holiday than any other day of the year, but it is. I'd planned to keep busy doing gardening, but it poured all day. My pretty little flowers had to wait. Today is beautiful, though. I'm going to head out and make up for lost time now. Hope everyone has a great week!
Chris arrived home this morning. He's bummed about leaving the Navy, and making plans to find work at the port. He loves being at sea, and driving ships.
Happy Mother's Day to everyone. I guess today is a good time since I haven't been on much lately to congratulate Janie on her baby girl. I guess I am following in Janie and Nichelle's footsteps in the fact that we have been having issues trying to have a baby as well. So with that being said, I am sad to say Mother's Day will never mean the same to us as lose a baby this week. Hope everyone else has a great day!!
Arwen, I'm sorry to hear about Chris. Hopefully this will give him some time to think about what he wants to do and he finds something he loves.
I didn't even realize today was Mother's Day until I got online after making breakfast. It wasn't on my radar. Of course that means that no one else knew it was MD either, so my husband left early in the morning for work and to put in some volunteer hours, and the kids didn't get up until about 11. We have no plans for anything special. It's "work day" for us, so I have about 20 loads of laundry and the living room to clean up, while the kids do their chores. Plus we have to set up a bedroom for Chris - he's been sleeping on the couch.
Sarah, I miscarried during a visit to a maternity shop during my first pregnancy (before Chris). Then I went on to have Chris, and my other two. Of six (known) pregnancies, I had three babies. My aunt spent 11 years trying to get pregnant, and eventually had two. So you still have a good chance of having a healthy baby someday.
God bless you, Sarah and I'm very sorry to hear about your loss. but as Arwen told you, you still have a good chance of having a healthy baby. Please take care.
Arwen, you sound busy. If there's one thing that never stops around here it's the laundry! Even with the boys away, we still have a lot of it. In fact, I'm working on some right now.
We are starting to get very excited as we expect our son in Iraq home in the early summer. I just called a place that makes banners to gather some info on ordering one. I am so looking forward to hugging that kid. : )
Sandra have a great trip. We are leaving for Washington on the 19 to spend time with our Navy kid and his family. Mason is telling everyone his grandma is coming to get him and he's ready to go.
Sandra glad to hear you are doing better. Sorry to hear about your trouble, hope the rest of your vacation is more enjoyable. We had a good time up in Washington even with Brian having the duty two days. Stephanie stayed home for some quite time with the little one and we took our grandson Mason with us. Mason is three and he kept up with us. We went to the Space Needle and local market one day and he ate everything! I even got him to try a shooter oyster. He made somewhat of a face, but he ate it. I gave Brian’s smoker a workout while I was there.
Slimsam Short summer? Try our wacked out weather here in CA Almost 100 and the next day 70's with rain. It's 74 hear today and this weekend will be over 100 Glad you got to hear from yuor son.
Chris is now living in Colorado. He's going back to school and trying to figure out what to do with the rest of his life. He really misses the Navy and wishes he could turn back time to undo what he did, but as you know, hindsight is 20/20.
Sean is still working on losing weight to join. He's had a couple of setbacks, a twisted ankle and wrenched knee that had him off his feet for almost two months. Not good bored plus injured equals weight gain.
My daughter Erin has signed up for JNROTC in high school, she starts next month. I'm not so sure the Navy is right for her, so this is a good chance for her to sample the Navy without having to commit.
Has Nichelle considered egg harvesting, and a surrogate? Sometimes a close friend or family member can carry the baby for her, and the child would truely be hers. My best friend had problems, never could carry a baby to term. I had three kids already and volunteered to be a surrogate. We were in the planning stages, when she decided to raise her nephews instead. One of three died in a tragic allergic reaction on Christmas Eve, and their parents were unfit to start with, and totally fell apart after the oldest died.
I've known sisters to have babies for each other, or cousins. A friend of mine carried her brother's baby to term, after his wife had ovarian cancer. They harvested the wife's eggs before she had her hysterectomy, and my friend carried three babies to term for them (a singleton and a set of twins).
I still like being in touch with the friends I made here. I have noticed that our membership is less than half of what is was. I'm rather sad to have lost so many of our members to the cyber netherworld.
I too check every so often. I do miss some of the banter back in forth with some of you and it's nice to see how everyone is doing. Sandra I'll say a prayer for you and hope you get good news. Some of the ones in our group keep in touch with my daughter in law so I do hear how they are doing.
Well someone please stop sending their bad weather my way. I check back too but it seems like everyone is always so busy to post. Sandra, I have been meaning to contact Nichelle but have been busy with school and scentsy and family things. Maybe I will get a chance this weekend.... This week has been a very long one. With confirming the lose of another baby and the earthquake, it is safe to say that this hurricane will probably just about do me in. Not only do I have to worry about my house, but we are also watching a friends house and mini zoo. I hope winter doesn't turn out to be like it is on track to be. Hope everyone is doing okay!!
No I'm not. I have had my fair share of issues with this clinic on base and went today to request being sent to a different base. It has been everything from not being able to contact my doctor to not writing a thing in my file. According to the ER last week, nothing is wrong level wise but they think my body is killing them which falls into what problems my mom had. Hopefully being sent to a different one will get the ball rolling since we are going into our 2nd month of picking orders and will be moving no later then May. Hopefully both Nichelle and I can get everything straighten out one day without giving up.
Lol, I know how you feel about seeing posts. I always wonder what everyone is doing when it comes time for things like us picking orders and if anyone else is in the same boat. IT orders suck big time but we did manage to find 5 that were manage able and didn't require a psych eval to bring the dog... We put in for England, Hawaii, Guam, Belgium, and Japan. Hope everyone stays safe this weekend!!
Erin (my youngest) starts NJROTC next week. It's going to be so strange seeing her in essentially the same uniform that Chris left hanging in our extra closet - and the same dress uniform I wore almost 25 years ago. I couldn't believe it when we discovered that she fits into my old dress blue uniform (and almost surprised that I still have it, LOL).
Sandra, yes if you find out the name it would help. Right now I have to wait for the referral so I can be seen at Bethesda and hopefully get somewhere with this. I haven't been able to be seen even at my pcm since the er visit and I was suppose to try and get an appt 2 wks ago to make sure everything it fine. Keep us posted on Nichelle!
So I hoping that we did get picked up for orders, but nervous about finding out Friday. We really want Belgium and it was listed as critical so hopefully they will see we want it and give it to us. I'm hoping that if we don't get any this time that the list won't go back to Cali, Hawaii, Japan and Va or list places that our pup is listed as dangerous. Oh and as a heads up, the PTS also known as Perform to Serve has been nabbing people up. In order to pick orders you have to have an approved PTS. This last go around 10 out of 65 ITs got approved PTSs and were able to pick orders. Hope everyone has a great week and I'm off to do hw.....
Thank you Sandra! I agree that they make it hard. Apparently I can't even get in to see my pcm at all this month and the whole medical center on base is in the red for performance. I have to wait until Tuesday to see some random person to have them recheck blood work and make sure everything is fine. I also found out that Bethesda is full and I can't even get in to my own women's health clinic. It's to the point that I might even change my MTF to another base in hopes of being seen or take up residence in the ER....
So we are back to the drawing board for orders which will make this month our 2nd try. Hopefully we will get something so we are able to see the light at the end of the tunnel! Sandra Nichelle is lucky to have you! My family can't take our pets since they don't get along with theirs and we have an indoor cat and they have a doggie door. Plus I don't think I would ever get them back if they took them since it happened many time growing up. Hope everything is going great for everyone else and you all have a great weekend!!
I am starting the Blue Candle Project, a video for Blue Star Navy Moms, Wives, Sisters and Girlfriends.
Dads, Brothers, Husbands and Boyfriends are welcome too. If I get enough I'd love to make a separate video for the men who support their sailor women!
What do I need? I need pictures.
1) A picture of you with a lit blue candle, either looking through a window with a blue star flag, or standing on your front porch with a big welcoming smile. Don't forget the candle! If your address is visible, either blot it out, or I will delete it.
1a) Your state. My goal is to get one representative from each state. If I get more than one from a state, and none from another, I will substitute 2 of one state for a missing state.
2) A picture of your sailor on his or her ship, at sea if possible. No nametapes visible, or I will blot out the name.
3) reunion pictures of you and your sailor, preferably on the docks, in uniform.
Your name, if you want credit for your photo. If you don't want your name associated, then let me know.
This video will be released on this website, and on YouTube.
Colleen, Thanks for sharing the picture! I bet you were happy to be spending some time with Justin while he was home.
Sandra, I know right. I made an appt to make sure everything was okay and all they did was listen to my lungs. I was irritated that I went and by next week I will no longer be seen here on base but at Bethesda instead. Shawn said he would rather drive and spend the time knowing something is happening and hopefully figure this out even if it means moving right after that. At least something good would have came of this place. I also did some searching into my medical record and my blood work has for the last year been hinting at an very low iron deficiency so I guess I will bring that up when I meet my new doc. Hope everyone is doing well since I'm off to do some hw....
Sandra, I hope you have fun! I keep trying to get Shawn to go for a visit cause I really want to see Harry Potter land but so far I haven't been so successful. I hope Nichelle recovers for the cyst. I had one in high school that landed me in the er cause the school nurse thought it might have been my appendix. So I had my appt at Bethesda this morning with my new pcm making the count of 3 since May '10. I love her!! She is rechecking all my blood work and ordering even more. She is also sending me out to the fertility clinic to get some help. She even talked to us about things after we have kids and was really nice about everything and even corrected the vitamins that I need. Hopefully we can get this all solved. Heres to hoping we get orders next week for my b-day!!!
Sandra, I'm glad you had a great time! Hopefully this deployment will allow the meds Nichelle is on to work. I know how it is to turn to your animals. Guess it's a good thing they are so loving and forgiving. We have an appt with the fertility clinic on the 26 so hopefully we can get the ball rolling.
No orders yet so heads up for everyone it's a rough process of once again playing the wait and see game. We got denied again so this is our final month to try. Luckily Shawn's command is calling the detailer on Friday to get us orders so we don't end up needs of the Navy. All I have to do is send him to work on Friday with a list of places that I want, will take and no-gos so hopefully this weekend I will have good news. Hope everyone's week is going great!
I've been working with the moms whose recruits are shipping this month and learned that an upcoming PIR will only have four divisions, including a performance division. The largest PIR group currently in boot camp has 7 divisions, most have 5 or 6. Wow. The Navy is really, really cutting back on new recruits. Boot camp must seem very empty.
The three choices are called a "dream sheet." It indicates the sailor's preference, but if none of those choices are available, they try to at least do something similar.
Right now the Navy is so overmanned they're having a hard time finding billets for everyone. In the next year the PTS (perform to serve - the Navy's version of layoffs) is expected to send thousands of sailors who want to stay in the Navy back to the civilian world. Only the best will be spared in each paygrade/rating.
We aren't at a school so it's a little different. We get 3 months of picking. Each month we get about 2 wks to let them know which 5 billets(not places but job slots) that we want and wait for about a wk to hear back if we got any. If you don't get any on your 3rd try they give you orders which is then the needs of the Navy ones. Of course to even pick orders you must have an approved PTS. I agree with Arwen that it is the Navy's way of layoffs. There are people out there who have had them denied 5 times already and are about to be kicked out. But then again most who get a denied PTS just cross-rate like a few people I know.
I should know tomorrow by 11 if we got anything. I told Shawn that if there is nothing decent being put on the table then ask for an IA or 1yr unaccompanied so we could then have what we want later. I will let you all know if we get anything tomorrow!!!
Thought I would update you on what I know. As of Friday we are waiting to be released from a detailer to a precom detailer. Shawn's chief emailed the detailer so I do have some facts. Apparently the precom detailer has a spot for us on the DDG 112 Michael Murphy which is what we want. So if we get released then we are heading to Hawaii! The only problem I have with this is I don't fly well with others yet alone by myself and 2 animals so I guess we will see how everything turns out and I keep you guess all updated on the situation. Oh almost forget, a precom ship is one that isn't on the orders list because it is still being built.
Sandra, what part of San Diego is Nichelle living in? We took San Diego instead of Hawaii because the detailer forgot to tell us that it was 3yr unaccompanied. I hate the miltary housing that we can have so we are looking around and found some nice ones. The only issue we are having is that the cat isn't declawed and Mocha weights 55pounds.
Hey Sandra, sorry it has taken me so long to response. It has been busy around here and hoping we have some answers by the end of the month. I can see the lab results just not fully understanding them so we have to wait to see what the doctors say. It looks like iron is a problem and that I have some kind of mutation that is known to cause losses but this is only from what I googled.
No we aren't there yet and should be there in March since he has to report by April 1st from what the detailer has said. I looked at the apts that Nichelle lives in and that would be nice except the walk to/from the laundry room would kill me. We have found some nice ones that we like up by the colleges, so now it is a wait and see game until we move. We know we lose BAS but it is suppose to be supplemented by other things. Do you know what the $300 is listed under because Shawn brought it up at his command and no one knows what it is and says that the only thing that you lose is BAS.
Erin made Seaman Apprentice last week in her JNROTC unit. It was very cool watching her in the NJROTC boot camp PIR. It was strongly reminiscent of another, two years ago...
Brian was home on leave and this was our local Veterans day Parade. His medals, ribbons and pin are: Global War on Terrorism Service medal,National Defense Service medal. Rifle and Pistol ribbons and his SSBN Deterrent Patrol Insigna. We spent the day with the parade concluding at the VFW Hall and afterwards we went to the National Cemetery. It was a very solemn moment to look over at my son in his uniform rendering a salute to his best friend that was killed in Iraq. They left yesterday morning and headed back to Washington as he had to report back today. They are soon to be deployed again. It was great to have them down and to see our grand kids. We had all seven here and got a good picture of all of them together.
Oh no Melissa I am so sorry to hear that. How long is he gonna be there? Are you gonna stay in Va or move back to San Diego? I'm here for you if you need me!
Nope we are still waiting for orders since there is no "funding" for them to cut them for us. We won't know until probably February at the latest of when I will be moving since it will depending on the coding. I could be moving as early as March or late as September but will depend on the coding being used since the ship is still be constructed. We have found some really good appts out there that will take our mutt.
As far as the doctors go we haven't really had much luck. They think I have a blood clotting disorder so they redid some tests. If I do have it then there isn't much they can do except hope next time they can get me on some meds quick enough. I am trying to switch my endo doctor cause she wasn't much help when I saw her. Other then that still no answers. Thanks! The pic was taken last month when we got all dressed up for my bday.
With it being quite on here I hope that most of you enjoyed a merry Christmas with your sailors. We're hoping that Brian is able to come down for a visit in January. Hope everyone has a Happy and Safe New Year!
Happy New Year! Still waiting for answers that will hopefully come this Thursday. I am not leaving without them as I am tired of not knowing what options we have. Looks like we are heading to San Diego the beginning of May since his command won't release him early so he can go to some training. Already found some great apartments that will allow my pup so now I just have to figure out my schooling options which are limited. But I am so ready to get out of here regardless of what happens and looking forward to moving far far away from family. Hope everyone enjoyed their holidays!
Well I hope everyone had a happy new year. We got a rescue Dachshund on New Year’s Eve and she has fit in well with the other two we have (one is our other son’s). It looks like Brian will be getting a couple of weeks leave and will be coming down for a visit. I just hope it’s not the week I’m gone for some more training. Sarah hope everything works out for you.
Sandra that sounds great. I would love to meet him when we get there. Today has been a good day other then a migraine that won't go away. We got our hard copies today and should be getting to San Diego in April. Also had a doc appt today and finally got some answers and trying out some meds after playing musical doctors to get answers. The doc I saw today was really optimistic that this course of meds will work so fingers crossed.

I am starting the Blue Candle Project, a video for Blue Star Navy Moms, Wives, Sisters and Girlfriends.
Dads, Brothers, Husbands and Boyfriends are welcome too. If I get enough I'd love to make a separate video for the men who support their sailor women!

Scott, these are great pictures! Is the street scene a parade? What are Brian's medals for?

Hi Sandra, Thanks. Brian may be home in January but not Christmas. He was only able to get 10 days leave and was home for Veterans day.
