Thanks Gigi. I watched that clip. There is a link to watch live .... but looks like I'll have to wait to see much. Hopefully they get going soon. Did someone forget to show up this morning? They forgot to turn the oven off? Flat iron?

News station confirmed my sailor's ship sailed an hour ago ... without Ike.

I remember last month my son's ship got delayed moving out because they were waiting for the tug boats. It had something to do with a damaged anchor on another ship that the tugs were dealing with that delayed them. I can't imagine the logistics it takes to moving these large carriers.

Good Morning Everyone - I apologize for being off grid. I was traveling last weekend and visiting friends and family. 

Fair Winds and Following Seas for all of our sailors and ships out to sea. Our prayers for everyone's safety and wisdom as well.

Hello Norfolk families - I just wanted to let you know that I am thinking about you all, even if we don't post much. I catch glimpses of news posts and when I see a ship name that I know specifically someone's sailor is attached to, I stop to read what it says. Love, {{{BNMHs}}}, and prayes.

Can anyone hook me up on the Ombudsman of Ike for the Nuke sailors/division? Thank you in advance 

Gigi - I don't know that there is a separate ombudsman for the Nuke (reactor department) division. Generally, there is just one or two ombudsmen for the entire ship. Do you have the contact information for that ombudsman?

Gigi - This is the link to the FB ombudsman group page - (4) USS DWIGHT D EISENHOWER (IKE) FAMILY OMBUDSMAN GROUP | Facebook  - It appears that they do have 5 ombudsman but I don't know if they have a different one for various departments or not. 

I don't recall if I shared this information privately with you or not - but here is their official website -  CVN 69 (navy.mil) - Hmm, it looks like the link on that page is not working but I had the other one propagate. 

Here is the public FB page - (4) Facebook and there is some contact information on that one - but not ombudsman. 

Did your sailor give you their ship email address? This is the primary thing you need to get vetted with the ombudsman.

Chipmunk mine is out to sea somewhere. Haven't heard from him yet and he didn't send his address so I wait.

My sailor is deployed. His first deployment.

Northwoodsmom and Gigi - I never experienced a full-fledged deployment with my son. We will see what happens with my DIL. The funny thing is, I probably wrote my son less emails, which I do very regularly while he was out to sea than I wrote letters when he was in BC and yet, they are just as void of news from home.

Good morning everyone!! I had a picture yesterday from my sailor family and they were outside at the park with the grandbaby. It looked a bit chilly! We were up to almost 80 degrees on Tuesday and then we had a cold front move in last night and dropped us back down below freezing!!

I hope our Norfolk sailors are all doing well.

Does anyone have advice for selling or donating furniture in the Norfolk area? My son's ship deploys soon and he has had no luck trying through local postings. He has a practically new sectional (two adults can sleep easily as my husband I have used it when we visit!), dining table and chairs and some ikea end tables. 

4kidsforfun - he can try FaceBook marketplace.  Or look for the local "Buy Nothing Group" on FaceBook.  That's a place where people give away things to neighbors for free.  Most cities have them.  I belong to the group here in my town and it's very active.  If you're in some of the Navy Mom's groups on FB you might also mention it there. Of course, he may have already tried these lol!

If all else fails reach out to Goodwill/Salvation Army or a local church.  With a little google search you may even find a local Veteran's group that would take the donation.  That would be ideal.

4kidsforfun - Hmm!! I assume he has tried to list on FB and such. I know there are several thrift stores in the area, because I have been to them. I believe sofas can be a little more difficult to get donated. I will see if I can find out something from my kids. 

BBQ Moved to 4/17/2024 due to expected rain on 4/10.

4kidsforfun - I think I was posting when B'sNukeMom posted. She mentioned Salvation Army and that reminded me that they and some of the other places in our area will do a donation pick up. I know the Salvation Army stores in our area are hurting for donations, but Norfolk is more transient, but he should still look them up and give them a call. Or Goodwill. 

My kids all seem to do better at selling things online. It is just not something I have ventured into. Donating is easier even if I don't get any money back.

Good Morning Norfolk families!!  Well, I made my trip to see my grandbaby and also my sailor kids! I actually navigated the Tunnel with my GPS, all by myself. When we left, I was initially going to be hitting it during morning rush hour. We waited just a little bit and headed out around 0900 - 0930 and had no issues. 

So FYI for those of you who may travel to Norfolk, do your best to avoid the tunnel during rush hour traffic. :-)

Request - I am looking to make contacts with any of our moms on this group who might have sailors on various ships so that if I have someone needing a "friend", I can see about connecting you.
