hey the beds are super comfy very clean rooms cable big tvs and well worth your money. it is on base go into the guard house go to the 1st stop sign turn left go to the end, you cant miss it. i saw your son this weekend he is too funny. really enjoyed takling to him.
well i gotta head back up to mississippi in a few hours to bring hubby home so i will be back on here later,
j
what day will you be going up there?
i will be up there friday afterneen butim bringing hubby home til saturday night
yes i understand my hubby gets tired of hearing from me i know he does. although i didnt get alot of time with your son he was really really funny. you should ask him how bad they really mess with new guys on campus. its bad. what day this week are you going to arive at the base. i will only be up there for a few hours on friday. so i hope i get to meet you while im there.
no they are not mean not like bc. i promise. they pick on them my hubby told one of the new guys to go get his twin size mattress bring it to the quarter deck and get them to stensil his name. which was a joke he told him not to before he did it i promise. it really is easy for the guys they just hate being there.
no you dont need reservations i never get any and they are never full. i just thought you said you made them. well im going to take a nap be back later.
Still, I don't see why they have to intimidate them. Isn't it enough that they are giving everything as it is never mind being picked on. They have so much else to worry about and learn.
i dont know. i can almost promise your sailor will do it to the next guys or down the road in there time at the school. my husband has been there for 5 weeks i think and still has another 5 to go so i guess it gives him entertainment. they really are not mean and make sure not to get others in trouble they do give them good pointers on their stay there. dont worry mine will be nice what is your sailors name. i promise he wont be teased by henderson.
j
i promise your sailor is not going to be aggervated, they told my hubby that he would have to run 6 miles a day, plus workouts at the gym also. not true and all kinds of other stuff. im up there every weekend. most of the guys are really really nice and go out of their way to help you. it really is an ok kinda place.
j
i'm on base now.... couple thing to keep in mind if you are coming on base....
make sure you have your vehicle registration...
proof of insurance
photo ID.
I had issue with the registration. in texas we have a registration sticker we put on our windshield. They would not except that and i had to have my paperwork faxed to me this morning. The gave my car a temp pass last night but i had to get it handled first thing this morning.
another thing to keep in mind:
if your on base sponsor has class or duty you will not have on and off base privileges. I'm stuck on base now with no place to go. There are few places a civilian can eat on base. I will be eating at the bowling alley today.
The rooms do have Cable TV and wifi. this is not the Hilton but a good value for the money. The rooms are old and in need of updating. It reminds me of a nursing home. Dark bedding and furniture. Industrial flooring and tiles. Pay $45. and you get the suite which has a living area and small kitchen with refrig. 4 top burner, sm. microwave and kitchen sink. If you are staying a few days bring some food, bottled water and anything else you may want to drink. There is a Keurig coffee maker which only makes one cup a coffee at a time. I'm not a coffee drinker so no a prob for me but if you are you will have a choice of two hot teas, 2 decaf coffee's and 2 reg. coffee's.
House keeping does come around each day.
All and all i'm happy to be here since my son will be leaving tomorrow for Home (liberty) before he heads to his next duty station. He graduates Friday morning and we will be on the road as soon as allowed.
oh yeah..... everyone on base has been extremely nice. Even security. the hotel guest service person scored me an extra bottle of water and some Advil this morning. The security people have been very kind to me as I had to check in my weapon upon coming on base ( i'm have a conceal and carry license).
I met my sons CO and got to go see where he lives and saw all the ladies and young men hanging out in front of their barracks having fun and conversing.
I did not see any signs of hazing or picking on. Everyone seemed to be respectful of each other. If there is a little hazing going on upon arrival i'm sure it's all in good spirits.
My son was so happy to be hear after BC. Said it was nice to be called Shipmate as apposed to some of the other names he had been called in BC. He is ready to leave but that is expected. He is ready to have some liberty and head to his next location.
Can you tell i'm bored and have nothing to do today..... think i will go find the bowling alley. the security officer said they have a good salad.
hey kim you can also call dominoes or papa johns they deliver. im glad they were nice to you. they all have fun all the time. mine is just so ready to be out of there, been there over 5 weeks and has 6 more sections to go through in school before he is through.
ok well im not staying at the hotel but while i am up there to pick hubby up i would love to meet you. if that is ok with you i live close to gonzalas LA. so i am only 3 and a half hours away. buti will be staying saturday night a nd most of the day sunday.
j
hope everything works out a little better. the navy might straighten it up for everyone you never know. well on the brighter side at least yalls sailors are almost done. cant wait for our g day.
j
he is an AZ airmen apprentice. the problem with mike is that mikes teacher walks in tells them to read the material then comes back 2 hours later. they are so behind. they just got to modual 4 and they should be on like 6 or 7 already. so sad that it feels like he will never finish.
j
jhenderson: My son went to school in Meridian also but was in YN school. He got behind in his modules (got stuck on the hard long one) and thought he would be there forever too. But once he got through with his really long module, things moved much quicker for him and he did get out. Yah! He had his graduation a week later, and then was in "hold' for about 3 more weeks before allowed to leave the base. He didn't know until about 2 days before when he could leave base. Was hard because his brother was driving up from Miami FL to get him...and had to give his work notice too. Thankfully, it all worked out and I'm sure it will for you all too.
I went to graduation this morning. I was the only Civilian there. It was fun... All the Sailors were soooo nice to me.
We did find out that my son is on the outdoc list for Monday so it looks like the Navy Gateway hotel is home for me till Monday... I'm not leaving without my son ;-)
We also have a planned vacation with our sons. I've been sweeting it out. We are taking our kids to Disney leaving on Thursday. I will barely make it home before turning around and leaving again. I was so happy to find out my sons name was on that outdoc list today. He actually finished school last Wednesday but they then have to take a 2 day financial class. If they are heading overseas they have other screenings they must go thru before they can leave.
I asked my son about the hazing issue.... this is FUNNY! he said the only hazing he encountered was.... (let me set the picture, there are a bunch of stray cats on base and there is one black cat that hangs around their barracks). anyway, my son was told the first week that he when he passes Admiral Whiskers (yes, that is the kitty's name) that he must solute Admiral Whiskers.
Not sure who was asking about Hazing but that seems pretty harmless to me.
hesmyrock: Not sure if they get mail on the weekend....he may not get it until Monday. BUT....I guess you will know if he CALLS you on the phone this weekend. :-) It probably was received on the base today, but goes through all kinds of sorting and he may not have been notified yet. When I sent my son's priority, I told him to go looking for it! He got it in either 2 or 3 days...can't remember.
ok well i am finally home kinda sad but glad to be off the road for sure. cant wait til friday morning when i head out all over again to see hubby. hooyaah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ok well i am going to go to bed soon. see yall later.
j
i will be there friday then be back up there sunday during the day. so i will post before i leave on sunday. i should be there around 1600 hours. hope everyone is haveing a good day so far.
j
found my id btw lost it all weekend long so im not dead. hubby got promoted to class leader today he is so excited. i think he just likes the title. oh well where is everyone??????
j
Just a rap up.... My son did process out ok on Monday. They processed out the overseas duty people last and my son was literally the last person to be processed. We left the base at 12:45pm and arrived back in Fort Worth at 8:30pm (we halled).
It was nice meeting everyone. I'm now moving on to the site for Mom's with kids in Hawaii...Take care everyone! Hooyah!
they can have cell phones right away, he will be able to check out with you over night after i think its 8 days now they just changed the rules. you can see him the time he gets there just he cant leave base but they do have a bowling alley. resturant called mean jeans. its good. so if you need to know anything else please let me know right now my hubby is head of the AZs called the class leader so he can tell me stuff to tell you if you need anything else answered but he leaves around the 22nd nov.
congrads on the graduation friday.
ceremonialguardmom- the next class is january so he will be on hold for a while. they dont want to start a class in the middle of the holidays.
ok well i will check in tom. just got home from mississippi.
J
Hello ProudMomS - Glad to see you here. This is our next stop too. PIR was just incredible. More than I ever could have imagined. It just leaves me speechless. We got to spend the weekend with our sailor. Just took him back to base a couple of hours ago. He has changed so much. What a gentlemen. Wow. We are still marveling...lol...
hey allie so glad you made it home safely. i will try to find you asap. been a long weekend. i wont see mike for 20 days now so upset.
candyazstepmom- i am glad to give you info if i hear anything else. sorry its not good news. mike has been there since 9-2 so it will be 3 months when he is done. cant wait til later this week rumer is they will have orders hoooyaaah!!!!!!
J
Ladies please be careful about posting full names, last names, addressess and phone numbers. This is against the community rules of Navy4Moms. It can be dangerous to your sailors as well. jhenderson- if that is your sailors last name also they suggest using something else. Plus you have posted your phone #. You may want to delete that. Sensitive info can be sent in a private message. Sorry to sound like a old biddy but safety to our sailors comes first. Thanks...
cherllynn, glad to see you here! I have not heard from my sailor since we dropped him off Sunday night. I wonder when we will get a phone call letting us know an address and phone number.
Mine called 7am this morning said they were boarding. Said he enjoyed the weekend and was very excited about going on to Meridian. Said they should've arrived there around 1. He did post on fb around 9am saying they were in Dallas on a layover but were boarding soon. I haven't heard anything since. He knows he can call anytime. I don't expect it'll be too long.
thank you alie you are so sweet. im going to mikes grad on the 23rd and they hopefully on the 3rd he will be released to go. 30 hour drive im not looking forward to. ok well gotta bring dog to vet today she super sick.
J
hey cheryllynn
i asked my hubby about your son he said he heard they arrived but havent met them yet so i think today he was still processing. Hope that helps a little
J
Leave it to kids to figure things out. He went to the Nex and bought a psp. says it was real cheap. It can use the internet so he was posting and chatting with his brothers and sister this evening on fb. Where was I...? I had gone out to dinner with my hubby and friends. Did a little grocery shopping. When I got home the kids where all excited because they had talked with him. I missed it all!!!!!!!! But, at least he is fine and all is well.
thanks hesmyrock shes fine just colon issues.
she did it a week before pir to me too.
cherllynn yes i did google it and i called the base and they sent me info on it.
glad you heard from your son. tell your son be careful. i have seen alot of new ppl get in there and spend ALL of their money on stuff they can hardly use. i dont know if your son will be like that. i just want to let you know to warn him. some spend it all so they have no money for food. kinda sad.
ALie hey im about to go on facebook now thanks for finding me.
yes mike will graduate on the 19th and me and the kids will be there to watch.
he might cross our fingers be released the day or monday after thanksgiving. cross your fingers and say some prayers for me
J
My daughter is still at Boot camp but will be going to A school in Meridian after the Christmas Holidays...What is it like? Eager for her to get to that point as it is closer to home in Panama City Fl.
the base is really really nice quiet. they also have a nice hotel on base for family, etc... just to let you know. most ppl just get ready fast to get out of there, your sons class should start the 2nd week after holidays are over. ok well good luck to you.
J
Hi Bris mom and Candy. My son has been there for a week and 1/2 now. Seems to like it. He doesn't say much to me about it but his messages sound good and content. He is able to get online and send messages. He started class this past Wednesday but had yesterday off cause of Veterans Day.
Candy-I'm in NH; far far away from Meridian. :( That's too bad that he has to wait another week. I think the guys like the adventure from place to place. I haven't heard what his plans are for the holidays although he knows his older brother will be here in NH early January so he will probably, if he can, schedule his time around that. But who knows. It's the Navy!!! lol
Happy birthday to your son. Mine was 20 in July. He had signed up in April and had DEP until September. Graduated bc 10/29. It's been a long year.
thats great news about him getting his orders mike got his hard copies friday so happy he grads on friday so im praying he gets out docked the day before thanksgiving so i dont have to return him. just got home from miss so im going to bed but i hope everyone had a great weekend.
Hi everyone, I just joined this group, my son will be in Meridian tomorrow morning. His PIR was 11/12. We are planning to go down there for Thanksgiving. Any help or information would be great! Thank you..
