Oh I am soooo confused. I thought I posted this already when I replied to Susan. Can we just send a card addressed to Ship 12 Div 186, ATTN :RDC? BTW, my name is Tootsie. I have been a lurker for quite a while but last evening decided to join this wonderful group. My grandson is in Ship 12 Div 186 and has a PIR of 5/14. I can hardly wait! I will be making the the trip to see him graduate bootcamp.
I am going to graduation with my daughter and my son's girlfriend - my cousin plans to drop us off at the grad(she lives in Chicago and is graciously hosting our stay) - Does anyone know if it will be a problem to be dropped off and picked up by someone not on the guest list?
yes, I should have took that into account when I made the reservation. But at the time I was looking for afforadable and a hotel that got good reviews. I found a really decent price for that one. I have some time to think about what we want to do.
All hotels have shuttle service, it's only a few hotels that have *free* shuttle service. All the shuttles are is minivan taxis. Generally there is a fleet of these taxis that waits at all of the area hotels PIR morning. If there isn't one waiting, then the hotel can call for one. On PIR morning they mostly run flat rates, you can get four or five people in for about $15, sharing the cost between you.
After PIR the shuttles (taxis) wait in a designated parking area just inside the main RTC gate. If your hotel has a free service, those taxis will be marked. If not, then you can take any of these taxis back to your hotel. Free shuttles and flat-fee rates generally end at noon, but the price doesn't change much all weekend.
Regarding travel from the airport: you can also take a train from the airport to Great Lakes, and catch a shuttle (taxi) at the Great Lakes train station.
A taxi from the airport is $60 - $80, while a train ticket plus a taxi to the hotel is only about $20.
Wait, there is ONE taxi service that only charges $40 from O'Hare airport. If you want their phone number, send me a private message. I just happen to still have their business card from my trip.
Yes- I printed 6 just in case one or two flew out the window, something got spilled on it, or whatever could happen.. lol I even printed one for our scrapbook =]
There may be come complications for new sailors getting their orders to A school. Almost all Navy promotion, travel and transfer orders are routed through Millington, TN. As of this weekend the personnel offices there were under water and the facility is closed until further notice.
Orders to A school may be delayed for a few weeks, and, because Tennessee is also responsible for promotions, it could also affect graduates getting their E-2 and E-3 promotions.
The Navy's unofficial motto is "hurry up and wait," but this situation could create a whole new level of delay.
I don't think anyone knows yet exactly how this will affect any specific group of sailors. It may prevent GnGs from leaving, that depends on whether their orders were already cut (though their orders usually do not arrive until they finish BS21) or if they are stuck on the computers in Tennessee.
just dropped in real quick to say hello, wow we are almost there and the tears are streaming down my face with so much pride as i type this....we made it...they made it and we will all be in the same place on may 14th, THANK EACH AND EVERYONE OF YOU for all of your support during this....love you all...dont know what i would have done with out you. My son said him and another guy was able to design the division flag for the whole unit so i am so proud of that...anyway hope everyone has a wonderful day and i will see you there...by the way its my bday today so im happy as a duck in water or maybe a sailor on a ship...hell as happy as a mom that will hold her son next week with great honor......bye
I got my sailor call in the middle of a meeting at work! of course I had to step out and when I returned I got a standing ovation, because everyone knew ahead of time that I couldnt miss that call! Our sons did an execellent job and i am proud of all of them.
Good luck to all the other Divisions who havent gone thru BS yet. I will keep the candle burning until next week ( I bought several)..
My son told me where he was going and I am happy to say that it isnt as far as Chicago..
Well he is in Ship12 Div 186, seems as though everyone else in that Division got their "Sailor Call". I checked with everyone that I think he would have called and nobody got that call from him. Again its the not knowing thing, I'm so frustrated!!!!!! If he didn't pass should I assume that he will try again with another division? Does he still graduate on time? And if he passes with a different division does he then graduate with them? So much for the excitement of "The Call".
ok so we should be getting a phone call after bs this week? Wow, i havent gotten a phone call either so i hope its all good still. Cant wait till i get past all this crying...dam i was doing so good and now we are at the end and all the tears are starting back up again.....WELL HAPPY MOTHERS DAY to all of you out there....hope we all get to hear something soon. By the way my son is in Ship 14 division 187 if anyone hears anything......
my son is also on ship 14 div 187 , he called me a couple of days ago and said he will be able to call again sat 5/8/10. and b/s I believe will be tuesday after mothers day. I have hives thinking about battlestations never had hives before. hope they go away before I leave May 11th to chicago, he also has a bad cold , he said he had a fever for three days must be from all those shots? hope he's better by BS. praying that everyone pass's I think I will pick up a candle to burn for them also. Happy Mothers Day to you All. Pat from Calif. P.S. just found out there is a girl who's mom works where me and my husband work who's daughter is graduating the same time don 't know what div or ship yet small world we work for corrections,
cool, i havent heard from aaron for a couple of weeks now. I hope his other phone card made it to him. Wow yesterday was my birthday so i was hoping to maybe get a phone then but nothing...so then i thought, for sure they would make them all call home for mothersa day. But now that you said they will get to call today i will have my phone glued to me.....thanks for the heads up...Pat i will send you a message so we can exchange numbers and childs names and we can meet up in chicago. I wont be there until the 13th though.....HAPPY MOTHERS DAY to everyone out there....
First time I have commented--my son is on Ship 12 Div 185. He called my husband yesterday saying his division had passed battlestations but there was at least one division that had not passed and their graduation would be pushed back. We are so relieved. He sounded tired but could not give any details about battlestations. He said things had eased up and the petty officers were talking with the recruits (sailors now!)
Skins Mom - I've read that if a recruit doesn't pass they usually give them a chance to go through BS again with another Division, and if they pass the second time around they will still graduate with their original Division. Think positive thoughts. Maybe he just had watch or something and wasn't able to call. Keep us posted.
My son caught something pretty weird after BS21, some crazy skin rash and nausea, they thought it was from the chemicals in the firefighting water. He was SIQ for a few days and never got to enjoy the post-BS21 privileges. But he passed and did PIR with his division.
Other reasons for not calling after BS21 is if they are too tired, are on watch or have so much fun in Ricky Heaven (fast food, video games and candy!) that they forget to call.
If they don't pass they get one more try, with the next divisions to go through, then get to call at that time. About 40 from my son's group failed BS21 the first time, they all passed on their second try.
Thanks to all for replying! Congrats to all of the families & their new Sailors! (And yes, he has been one of the guys that has been very sick.) It has been such a source of comfort just hearing that there could be a reasonable explanation as to why I didn't get the call. I was just so disappointed. What should have been a great day for us turned to utter disappointment and a fresh batch of tears for me. It was just so hard reading all of the excited & proud posts from everyone and i sit here not knowing whats going on. Hopefully I will still be at Great Lakes next week! If I hear anything I'll post & let you know!
Let's continue to pray for our recruits to pass Battlestations and to stay healthy! I guess I have an ulterior motive....I want to get that phone call!
My son was Ship12/Div 185; he has been in RCU the last 2 weeks. I finally got a phone call last night only because of Mothers Day. Anyway, he did say there were 3 guys in his division that didn't pass BS but they will be doing it again on Monday. I hope that is helpful for some of you . . .
I got my call saturday from my son 5/8/2010, he sounds better from his cold. He said his div 187 won the captains cup, And that they are able to use the computer. he got his orders for A school will start may 24th at G.L.. Battlestations Tues. Happy Mothers Day , to day is my B-Day but not celebrating until may 14, 20100.
Good luck to all those who are still waiting for there Iam A sailor Call like me.
I Pray right now for all the MOM who are anxiously waiting for an answer!..I pray for They children's health and safety; But, most of all for they "Your Peace that surpasses all other. Give them Peace and tranquility will they wait Lord. We know you have a purpose for ALL OUR CHILDREN, TO PROSPER THEM IN EVERYWAY. Amen....To all the former and current mom..."HAVE A WONDERFUL AND BLESSED MOTHER'S DAY...WE DESERVE IT!
hey everyone, i guess we will all go to bed tonight with prayers shooting up to heaven that we all get that "im a sailor" call....bs is tomorrow and im a nervous wreck!!!!
Skins mom, i feel ya on the phone call, i didnt get one either and my heart has been torn to pieces since......the tears are just falling like they did the first few weeks he left...hard to believe we have made it this far. Time has gone slow but yet it has gone so fast, we are at the end of it. But i think what kills me most is after A school then the two weeks leave and they are off...everyone tells me he is not gone forever, he will be back to visit but i think that just it...he will be just home to visit, not home to stay!!! Wow in there teenage years we cant wait for them to make something out of themselves and now they are and its killing me....maybe its because im a single mom. I dont know but this is crazy!!
woo hooo, my son and another guy designed the flag for his division 187!! Thank you for the update, gosh darn just made tears start falling again...just cant wait to get there.....man this is crazy...like im a little girl that cant sleep waiting to get up and go to disney world....miss him so much...this time last year was graduating high school....wow now he is my young man!!!!!!!!!!! GO NAVY!!!!!
Hi All! Well I received a letter today. He did pass on FRIDAY! He could not call me to tell me that he passed BS due to a dental appointment! I am very relieved to know that it is done! About the ballcap ceremony, his exact words were, "I can't think of any other moment in my life that can top that ceremony"! I am so extremely proud to say that I am now a mom of a Sailor!!
My son is in Div. 811 I received a call a little while ago saying he passed. He said all the guys in his unit passed but I don't know about the whole division.

My daughter (187) was supposed to do BS21 on Tuesday, so we are awaiting the call. Can anyone who already got the call tell me...
1) Did they call right after the ceremony, or did they have to wait?
2) When did you sailors say it started (8pm... Midnight... ect)?
Since we leave for Chicago first thing in the morning, we are so anxious for the call.
