Wow, my son has Ship 7 Div 052 wonder if we will have the same PIR as you nascarnov?
  • nascarnov

Probably! I haven't received the form letter yet. I was just glad to finally get his ship and div numbers! Our recruiters were at a conference, so it took a day or two longer to get it. We got the box today. No note, just his clothes.
  • DebBon / Ship7 Div 052

Yep, I got the box last week Thursday and called the recruiter on Friday got the address but still not the form letter with the PIR date yet.
  • Cat(Mom of an AO)

OMG! Nascarnov!! I found someone in the same div. WOW! I did not hear when PIR is but I keep checking on http://www1.netc.navy.mil/nstc/rtcgl/upcoming_grads.asp to check and see. I guess I am to early. I'm hoping to get the info in the mail anyday now. As soon as I do I will reach out to you. If its not the 14th then it should definately be the 21st.

DebBon, you never know. We all seem to be off by only one or two in Div. Glad you got the address. I have been mailing my son a letter for everyday he has been gone.
  • Lynne

I am thinking you may be getting that form letter this week although it may a bit delayed because of Thanksgiving...hang in there....
  • Cat(Mom of an AO)

Trying to. I joined the PIR 1/21/10 group in the meantime

NSGL posted a link to this newspaper article on facebook. It made me feel a little better. Here's the main part of the article:

While hundreds of sailors will be Thanksgiving Day dinner guests off the Navy base, Great Lakes will serve more than 2,000 service members from noon to 3 p.m. Thursday.

More than 50 USO of Illinois volunteers will serve a buffet-style feast of turkey and stuffing, potatoes, vegetables, beverages and holiday pies and cakes, and with the help of the Great Lakes Morale, Welfare and Recreation Department, give them a sense of being “home away from home.”

“When the sailors arrive at the USO/MWR Thanksgiving Dinner, they’re served far more than excellent food,” said Ross Docksey, USO of Illinois chairman and CEO. “Each sailor is personally welcomed by a USO volunteer who thanks the sailor for his or her service. Dinner is served by smiling volunteers, all of whom are dedicated to ensuring that the sailors have a wonderful Thanksgiving.”

thanks for sharing the article blessedsailorsmom!
  • Lynne

Okay y'all I told you as soon as I figured out what PIR group you were in I would let you know...well...guess what I think I know...so if you have a recruit in divisions 49, 50, 51, 52 then here is your PIR group...now there may be more divisions than that but these I am pretty darn sure about...lol

    http://www.navyformoms.com/group/pir12111

You won't have gotten rid of me though...I will be in and out of that group as well. Be sure and join that group...so we can wait for phone calls, watch what will be happening week to week, anticipate battlestations and all the other things that go along with boot camp. See you there.
  • nascarnov

Blessedsailorsmom, that was a great article! Thanks for sharing it!
  • Cat(Mom of an AO)

Love the article and thanks for the offical PIR date. I have joined already and am looking forward to day I get to hug my sailor.
  • Tamme

Great idea, Bonnie. I have to admit if I was in the area, I sure would try it. LOL Thanks for your wonderful message and have a great Thanksgiving. This site is a Godsend.
  • Cat(Mom of an AO)

LOL Bonnie, what spirit. I wish all of you the same. Enjoy your holiday. I have so much to be thankful for and this site in one of them.
  • Cat(Mom of an AO)

Is it possilbe to get a call for Thanksgiving? My son is only in BC one week. I sure hope so!!! Anyway, like I have said before, my cell phone never leaves my side so I am ready if he calls!!
  • Tamme

I am praying for a call but it is within the weeks they don't allow any communication, except the form letter. Bonnie, you sound just like me. Even in Church, I keep it on vibrate in case I need to go running out. That was the one thing I dreaded after finishing one through boot camp was being glued to my cell phone again. I panic if I leave it in another room. I am so bummed I haven't been able to connect with anyone in Ship 7, Division 45.
  • Cat(Mom of an AO)

I hope you do soon Tamme. In the meantime you have us. I have not recieved my form letter yet but I hope to find it in the mailbox when I get home. Not only am I glued to my cell, I'm glued to this site. Don't want to miss a beat!
  • Karla~ (S 12 D 042 - PIR 1/14)

I posted this in my PIR group but since the subject here is phone calls right now . . . Sooooo, call forwarding to my cell was a great idea except that I plugged it in to charge in another room during the night. I always up pretty early but my boy called at 5:54am and I missed it because the home phone didn't ring! I was so sad! He sounded good, said he needed more information and was sorry he missed us. Said he could get the info so he wouldn't be able to call again but he'd write letters. Would this have been his 3-week call? I hope and pray it wasn't since no one else has received theirs yet, right?! So the moral of this story? SLEEP WITH YOUR CELL PHONE (definitely shouting here)
  • Tamme

Karla, I'm so sorry you missed the call. It wasn't your 3-week call though I wouldn't think. He would have been able to try again. It was probably information for graduation attendees.
  • Karla~ (S 12 D 042 - PIR 1/14)

It's true. Bonnie! I guess the good news is that when we gather for Thanksgiving, I can play it and everyone can hear his voice! Hadn't thought of it that way - sort of a silver lining. We have families heading out for looong drives in -12 degree weather on ice roads here in WA state so we can all be together. Keep safe everyone and have a blessed Thanksgiving!
  • Cat(Mom of an AO)

I call my sons cell phone just to hear his voice.
  • Tamme

    Me too, Cat.

Bonnie - you are so right - it ends. I have many friends with sons and daughters deployed and even though that does end as well eventually, ours right now are in the safest place they could be. At night I think about that before I go to sleep - I don't have to worry what time he is coming in or where he is.
  • Cat(Mom of an AO)

That is so true. Everytime an ambulance passes my heart skips a beat knowing that he was out driving. Last night it happend and I was fine. So that is also on my mind at night. They are safe.
  • Alysia-Redsmom (VQ-4/ATO)

Good morning/afternoon Ladies (where ever you are)! Starting to dread this 1st holiday without my son. Already lite my blue candle in his absence:( I never thought of calling his cell phone to listen to his voice mail message ~ great idea! Thanks you wonderful spirit lifting soon to be, if not already, NAVY MOMS!
  • Lynne

Tamme have you joined the 1/14/2011 PIR group...there whould be people from your division there...if not just hang in there...they will start coming in...

Remember the area code to watch for is 847

And you can rest assured if the message said it was an information phone call then the call probably came from the RDC office and is not a normal call...so hang in there...

Try to keep any calls you might get upbeat and encouraging. I remember my first phone call with my son...it was a little upsetting...because I could tell he was so nervous...he could hear the RDCs yelling behind him and he kept checking to see if he was in trouble...so remember at the 3 week mark...things are still new to them...they are not yet comfortable in their new surroundings...so they are often emotional...so you have to stay positive and encouraging...

Also don't take 3 weeks as gospel...for some it was longer than that...sorry but I would rather you are prepared for the worst....
  • Cat(Mom of an AO)

Hi redsmom, holidays will not be the same but keep that candle lit and know that we are all here for each other. Happy Thanksgiving
  • Tamme

Thanks, Lynne. Do you have the link to the 1/14/2011 PIR group?
  • Alysia-Redsmom (VQ-4/ATO)

@Lynne ~ thanks for the area code (847) never thought to look that up as to be prepared when a call would come in......just love ALL this helpful info from Everyone!
  • bradsfanclub

  • Alysia-Redsmom (VQ-4/ATO)

Happy Thanksgiving to my new military family~wishin you all a very blessed day!

    **Keep the blue candles burning**
  • Lynne

  • Alysia-Redsmom (VQ-4/ATO)

@Lynne thanks agin for the are code heads up (847)....phone rang this morning and when I looked at caller ID and I saw (847) area code I almost melted with joy. We had a fantastic phone call with our son that now makes our separation so much easier!
  • peanutsmom/Ship07, DIV 051

Hello, My daughter left for BC on November 16th she is in Ship 07 DIV 051 they graduate January 21st. I was so excited to get her address today!! I sent off 3 letters to her and her sister sent 2.. Cant wait to read her letters. She seemed in good spirits i was glad to see her handwritting.. what a small thing to appreciate!!
  • Cat(Mom of an AO)

Peanutsmom, me too! My son left on the 16th from NY. Are you in the group PIR 1/21/10? If not come join us we are all there and there is another mom who is also in our DIV.
  • nascarnov

Peanutsmom-Great to have another mom in S7 Div51! Like Cat says, join the 1-21-11 PIR group. Isn't it wonderful to get a little note from them? I loved it! I'm glad they are in good spirits, under the circumstances!

Cat-I'm leaning toward Ramada now, since I heard one wing was remodled. I'll call and request something in that wing! It will be nice to be in a place with a restaurant.
  • nascarnov

I just booked at the Ramada. I made sure it was in the remodeled section! Not bad prices -$79-$83 per night. That's with the Navy graduation packet. Use LPNN as a promo code when checking rates and availability. There is a "discount" section that explains it all. Make sure you ask for the remodeled section!
  • Alysia-Redsmom (VQ-4/ATO)

Good morning Ladies ~ wishing you all a blessed day!
  • Kimbv(S007Div055)

Good day to all of you!
  • Lynne

    Redsmom...so happy for you....

nascarnov...you know I stayed at the candlewood suites which is in that area for 69.00 a night with a full kitchen, brand new...etc....just a thought
  • Denise

Excited to be getting the address today...I've already got a stack of cards and letters to mail.
  • Denise

Got mailing address - appears my son is on Ship 11 Div 057 - any others out there yet?
  • Cat(Mom of an AO)

does canlewood have a shuttle bus to the base? What about restaurants?
  • Lynne

Candlewood does not have a shuttle or a restaurant...but has a little store in it...and full kitchens in the suites...we loved it..it is across the street from Chilis and several places...lol
  • Lynne

I think I might have said earlier the wrong date for the next PIR group...lol...it will be 1/28/2011...we will be forming that group soon...be checking in boot camp for moms as well and I will let you know...I am pretty sure division 56 and 57 will be in that PIR group....isn't it exciting...then you can begin to watch the countdown...
  • Alysia-Redsmom (VQ-4/ATO)

Thanks Lynne made my weekend :-)
    45 days and counting.....
  • peanutsmom/Ship07, DIV 051

Thanks ladies.... I was so glad to read just the two lines from her I cryed like a fool!! I write to her at least everyother day if not everyday... Holidays just arent going to be the same without her.. Yes I joined 1-21-11 PIR group too...
  • Cat(Mom of an AO)

Hi Peanutsmom. I sent you a friend request. Hang on cause we are all here together. Yes, the holidays are going to be a hard but just think how if would be if we never found each other. I am writing to my son as we speak and told him that I am meeting so many other moms with kids in his div.

Thanks for the info on Candlewood Lynne. I still have not booked anything yet. Waiting for my first letter. I should have all set by next week.
  • Kimbv(S007Div055)

Anyone out there with S007, Div 055? I just received this info & will start a group if no one has so we can be together!
  • Cat(Mom of an AO)

does it say what PIR date you have. I look it up and I'm not sure if you are 1/21/10. You might be 1/28/10..
  • Kimbv(S007Div055)

No I just got an email from his recruiter with the address yesterday. Should I take down the pictures of his swearing in that I posted? I was just reading something that said not to make your profile pic a photo of him as the division training guys look on here and read this stuff. I don't want to cause him any probs!
  • Cat(Mom of an AO)

I went onto http://www1.netc.navy.mil/nstc/rtcgl/upcoming_grads.asp to find out and your div is not listed yet so I'm kinda thinking that you will probably be 1/28/10. you can always change the date so go ahead and make the group. My advise is to name the group the PIR date and in the discussion forum you could all list your ship and div. This way more join with the same PIR date and the divs are branched out. Have fun with it and soon some of the more knowledgable navy moms will pop in to give support and post some important information.
