Good morning everyone...I was wondering if any of your "grad. from basic" notices had shown up in your local paper yet...I've been checking online for mine...nothing yet...I didn't know if GL sent the info right away, but I just have to have a copy! Hope everyone is doing well!!!!!

There is a mom on the 10/1 site who lost her brother in 9/11. One of those "wasn't supposed to be in the office that day" stories. Prayers for all of those who lost loved ones on this tragic day 9 yrs ago...and blessings that although we will never forget them, we will not be defeated and although forever changed, life will go on.

I have a cousin whose husband worked there. I was told he was on his way there and forgot a briefcase or something at home, turned back to get it and it all happened before he got back.
I was like wow.

Got a text from my son last night. He’s still in THU, waiting for a spot to open up in nuke school. They’re keeping him busy, I guess. He was going to call last night, but he was helping a senior chief out with projectors for the chief’s ball.

Then this morning he texted again. He has phased up and now he can wear civilian clothes off base and stay out till 2300 (he underlined this!), and have off base liberty during the week. The funny thing is, the only civilian clothes we brought him were underwear, socks, and his sneakers. LOL I asked him if he wants us to send him some stuff; or maybe he’ll go shopping.

We thought we’d hear from him a lot since he now has his phone, but that’s not the case. He did say he’s been busy, plus the reception isn’t so great. He has to hunt around outside to a good spot to call, and that’s a pain. I do text him to say hi every other day or so, but I am a bit jealous of those who hear from their new sailor every day. Then again, this is mom and dad and sis we’re talking about; might be waaay different if there was a girlfriend in the picture. J

HA, Michimom: So you are picturing your son out on the town in his socks, underwear and sneakers only, right? Wow, what a sight! HA! My son never had me send any civies....he ended up buying just a few items at the NEX for great prices! Nice clothes too! I bet your son will go "shopping!"

Crystal~ I took my sailor's grad picture to the newspaper Wednesday and requested they print it with the announcement. They called the next day to verify some information, and it will run in this mornings paper. Maybe a little nudge will work?

Jealous of those phasing up so fast.

Good Morning Everyone
So glad to see that everyone is still chatting it up on here. I joined the site for "A school in Mississippi" but only 1 or 2 posts per week. I have been able to talk with my daughter on facebook twice, she said it is quite the walk to the Liberty Center. I sent her laptop yesterday to her but she will still have to walk to the Liberty Center to get a signal. She hasn't started school yet, still processing. She said she is in a 3 room unit, with 3 girls in each room. The girls that are there have been there quite some time and are not very friendly, so my daughter isn't too happy about that, but she said that is okay its only a temp. situation (this kid finds the good in everything).

My thoughts and prayers are with those that may have lost friends or loved ones 9 years ago today. This is a day that should never be forgotten. My cousin was to be in that building if she wasn't running behind in dropping off her two kids to daycare.

Two days after coming home from PIR weekend I have come down with a pretty nasty cold (not surprised since everyone was coughing up a storm), my daughter says "I don't want to hear it, I was sick the entire time in GL", so no sympathy from her LOL... She says it is hot as hell in Mississippi and can't wait to get out of there!

Hi everyone. Talked to my son last night. He got a 100 on his financial something or another test and earned a college credit. woo hoo. He is almost done completing tasks for Phase 2. Im quite surprised by that considering his A school will not start till oct 3rd. He will be taking some engineering classes and then only 8 days of his schooling will be for Machinist Mate. that seems odd to me.
So Craig thanks for the rundown but if my son is going for machinist mate why is he labeled FN-fireman -E2

Amrik has called me every day since he got to Monterey! He is loving it and I am LOVING getting to talk to him every day! Sounds like they are all doing great! I will definately have to plan a trip to see him! I've never been to CA!

Terri - All snipes are firemen. Once he earns his rating he will be a MMFN, for Machinist Mate Fireman (E3). or he could be a MMFA, Machinist Mate Fireman Apprentice (E2).
Again, any one working in the engineeing space is a fireman (aka "a snipe).

Gotta give mega props out there to the wives or girlfriends of sailors. Rougher time for yall then I think for the mothers.

Your facebook post scares me a bit jhenderson. Its one thing for someone to press up on my girl now, its another down the line more when we been apart longer. I'm still strong though, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't scared. My down time can be a mixture of emotions.

ok here it is they have a girl at a school with hubby. she got way too friendly after she already met me and my kids yes my hubby sent her away but its the point that she did that. i got really mad at first ready to hurt her but now im just gonna make her feel stupid and well you get the picture. it just wasnt right what she did.
thanks sara but no my 3 kids dont even try to hide there devil ways. they are young and wild still. we are driving up there for the weekend on friday so i have something to look forward to. hehe.

Wanted to say thank you to the sailor who lent my daughter his cell phone the other nite last name begins with a W. She now has her cell phone. Its so nice that we still can help each other and our sailors too.

As everyone moves on with their sailor we will all slowly drift from this PIR 9/2 thread. I've seen it a 1000 times. It's ashame because we are really a tight group and have come to understand one another. (except for Dave, I still can't understand him -ha)....

I'm wondering if we should start a new group? Something like "The Chicken Coop - Hot and Extra Spicy Discussions" or something... We would have members that discuss stuff about everything. You just post whats on your mind. Kind-of line the tv show Sienfeld, it a thread about nothing. You go to whatever area on N4M you like, then you stop on by this area just to unwind and hear the different things people have to say.

The problem would be someone would b*tch. The humor we displayed here in the PIR 9/2 always pushed the edge, and I am probably the one that sometimes brought it to that edge. So, I think someone would complain and it would be short lived, even if we put a disclaimer at the beginning saying that we are a rowdy bunch. But, I still think we should try. If it gets banned, then it gets banned. Our group is just a small sliver and a reflection of our society and we should show it....

What do you guys think? If it did happen, what would be the name? Do you think it would survive? Would you guys show up? Is it even worth doing? Let me hear your thoughts......

Ordered these. Was given confidence there would be no issue in delivering them to her for her birthday tomorrow. I just hope they can get through the gate or hand them off to someone who then can give them to her instead of having her come to the gate and get them. Of course the dream would be to have them given to her in the public lounge or Im sure even less likely have them sent to her during class so everyone can see, but as long as she gets them I'm ok.

I had to give her something for the actual day, since I cant be there to give her the necklace in person till later. She seemed sad on the phone and on facebook about having a birthday there away from me and was like what am I gonna do besides turn 19. I figure besides being there getting that would be a tolerable substitute. Hopefully you ladies would agree if you were split away from your other half on a bday or holiday.

Thanks. Good to hear from females I'm doing an ok job. Besides casual chatting with some, I only have 2 that I would really call friends, one of them being my girl. All my other friends are male.
I'm picky and when it came to choosing from the selections of ones that could be delivered by tomorrow, those were the only ones I liked. Well, actually not the ones but the only ones in that lower price range. Yeah the ones that were 70-100+ looked nice too, but I aint ballin like that. lol Have my money going to visit. Others didn't look as good or were of colors I wasn't feeling like orange, yellow and purple. Plus I know she loves pink.
